I read this book maybe 5 years ago. It was a regency novel. The heroine was upper class and she was in love with the stable boy, someone below her in class status. Her father did not want them to be together so the boy went away to get rich. While he is away there is a terrible fire and the heroine legs gets burnt. After the fire she is not the same. She does not smile or laugh, she is a different person. The guy returns and is rich, but the heroine acts like she does not love him because she is afraid that he would be disgusted by her burnt marks.
The book was pretty thick, I would say 300-400 pages. Its set in the 1800's.
