Official Welcome to the Dragon Thread V
This is a continuation of the topic Official Welcome to the Dragon Thread IIII.
Join LibraryThing to post.
It's time for a new thread, methinks.
Welcome Koenix, CalvinBoesch, Dankel, Jon.Sellers, tyrone.minnifield, KansasKid, celadontea, loewen, KevinMcKernan, Joyalariwo and Stephen_Burrows!!! Make yourselves at home. :o)
Loved the "echo" welcome...and endorse it.
Hoping all new folks will be as interesting as the ones we've come to know already!
Things are quiet at the moment, but there are a few things to be aware of.
*Safety from sentient roombas is usually found on top of the bar.
*Pillows and marshmallows (aka weapons of war) are found behind the bar.
*Pool boys are available (and gorgeous).
*Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters (hereinafter referred to as PGGBs) are a specialty of the house. Hazmat suits available upon request.
*Patrons have been know to break into spontaneous bouts of "Princess Bride" quotations. Participate at your own risk.
We need the extra cheese with all these new members around! I'm sure that's what you were thinking when you double posted, Clam!
Welcome walterqchocobo, Velmeran, StevenOrlowski, tomfejw, cmmatteo71, macarmona, AcisAce, smokemare, CZenos, sturlington, aquaplanet, johanna414 and remusly!!!
A new class of newcomers! Super! Great! Someone open the bar, and turn on the pool lights. PBBGs all around, please, bar keep!
Great advice, Maggs! Stay away from the roombas, especially if they have "Morphy's" tattooed anywhere on their little, evil, metal bodies.
Welcome WordSpinner, bertyboy, HGillis, Azrael910, jordsly, GwenDandridge, SSJLuffy, sandstone78, jenspirko, polymnia, DCavin, rolandperkins, John_Vaughan, MelindaBrasher, solozero and jimgysin!!!
Wait... sandstone78??? Did you leave and come back? LOL
>15 clamairy: Actually, I have an explanation for that one :) I'd been just starring threads that caught my eye so the high posting volume didn't overwhelm my quieter groups in my "recent posts" listing, but I realized recently that I was pretty much starring every thread anyways, so... why not be a real member instead of a loiterer?
>16 sandstone78: So make yourself comfortable and grab a PGGB. There may even still be some cheese somewhere if the regular locusts haven't eaten the lot.
Membership benefits include use of the extensive library. If you can find it amongst the boobies, smurfs, roombas and barflies. ;)
Welcome avxcxcs, DougGoodman, erbisoeul, FranBat, Tirgearr, mount_kronos and Frl.Famos!
(Oops, avxcxcs has already been suspended. heh heh)
well, well, well
We never have taken to the party poopers. Have we? Where is that pitcher of PGGBs, any way? I think we need to set up a round of drinks, on the house. I mean on the pub. Wheeeeeeeee
Oh, I think I know where the Roombas have been hiding.....
Welcome IulianIonescu, jykghj, Tuirgin, kirinsaysno, gazamatazabbott and georginajames!!!
Welcome back beatles1964. Is this your third or fourth time? ;o)
Welcome bibliophile_pgh, kpn, Austin_Dragon, Jalmars, Lee_and_JJ, Felurian, BrainFireBob, capiam1234 and ripred!!!
Welcome joshua.moore, artrodriguez88, nrmay, Pantalaimon01, maggie.d., Eddie.Rosenfeld, DickensMan, Jonathan.Fouts, PrashantPinge, LunaraDawn, DStockton, gaslampfantasy, AnnaGN, matluvsbooks, Slumber_Doll, randomlemony, Mademoiselle_FiFi, renbedell and Maddz!!!
Wow! A wonderful crop of newbie from this summer. Welcome, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your books.
We are getting really close to 3,500 members, but the count thread is lost. :(
Thanks for the welcome!
Happy to have found this entertaining group.
What's a roomba?
I'm very fond of gjetost myself . . .
*Gives >33 nrmay: secret Green Dragon handshake*
Roombas originated as robotic floor cleaning devices, but one of our members, Morphidea (also known as Morphy, or Mighty Morphy), has taken them to a whole new level with her evil plans to conquer the world. Avoid them. Trust me.
Refuge: On top of the bar
Pillows: Behind the bar
Marshmallow guns: Ask maggie1944
Roombas: Sentient. Avoid at all costs.
Pool Boys: Gorgeous
PGGBs: (Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters) Haz-Mat suits recommended
ah.... Marshmallow guns?? Who me? I couldn't say, really, where they might have been hidden, I mean... placed carefully and safely "away". Yes, that is it - they are away.
But do let me know if you need one as I might, just might, be able to remember where that "putting" place can be found.
Welcome WatsonBrothers, ConalO, ayjaycee, ShyPageSniffer, aketzle, gamorgan1, timgriffiths, lunacat, davisfamily, pralfred, fraochruadh, Laura_W_Lib, Sarahdaltrybooks, BluesyBlue, Vickilynb74, W.A.Rusho, dtollen, InTooBooks, strongasanoak, Niobeisme, MattMol, corporate_clone, angelrocco, btburt and coraelle, jeni68!
Welcome AmyJSmylie, Erin.Arnold, ronherron, innocenceagain, E.L._Ervin, CaptainGunsche, Jaywlker, crisp, Taku_Shannon, kaonevar, shariftiens, Anvity, zarafa7, georgelightgood, LorLe, Suzanna_J_Linton, Yiska67, BINDINGSTHATLAST, cresida, tsturgill, SandDune and walkermwatson!

My sincere apologies to anyone and everyone I missed in the last couple of months. :o/
We are always glad when you can do what you can do to keep the Green Dragon a warm, and friendly place. Welcome each and every one of the new folks.
Let's spread out some cheeses and crackers and drinks all around.
Welcome all! I hope you will feel free to dive in and comment, the waters are friendly here. I wonder, is there an LT member named something like, "saucealot?" Because they should be friends with SirNoodle. I'm just saying. :)
One of my favorite things in this thread is reading all the creative names of new members. :D
I missed all those PBBGs that were being passed around. Can someone whip up another batch?
Welcome to The Green Dragon!
Welcome to a friendly crowd, always ready to talk about what you're reading, what you're eating, and what makes you feel "stabbity". There are a few bug-eyed monsters in the pub, but like the water buffaloes, if you just shove them on over, you can make room to sit down.
Be careful on the personal reading threads. There are book bullets flying!
#34 Really, gjetost lovers are rare. When bringing it into a crowd, it gets better reception if you put it on a platter with caramels, mints, flavored yogurt, and hard candies, where uninitiated can be snookered into liking it before being told its a cheese. I also like stilton.
Gjetost also great served with pear and apple slices.
Thumbs up for stilton and any kind of blue cheese!
Blue cheeses of all sorts pair remarkably with PGGBs! A Green Dragon favorite.
Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters. The recipe here in the GD is not quite identical to that in theHitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but the effects are often just as devastating.
thanks, I very much needed to know that. Will seek out recipe . . .
The hazmat suits are around here somewhere. Whoever is stirring up the PGGBs might need to wear one.
As well as those drinking some, and those standing next to them. Where's Morphy's Roombas?
Welcome jutatie, FourOfFiveWits, ESeries5, DonnaDeck, Lace-Structures, thecobbleroad, rsurvis, Dennis_Bond, Dalene.K.Rodman, Lost54321, bluebutterfly99 and Nqvgz!
Maggs - I hope Morphy's Roombas are locked away somewhere. You know, to keep them safe.
Welcome spongevee, Madelynn_Albert, mizmooz2, spartan, Ailinel, Clifford.Terry, TomeBoy, reneputt, Carol_W, York_Lee, wrevans, devonro, fldiaz, D.ThoursonPalmer, AndyAnthony, Cricket2014, TheAlex, Fernando_Torres, PeterWM, HeatherMOConnor, MrZing147, Richard_Middleton, horselover81, amellus, Chinmay_P, EvieTMcduff, souloftherose and BSMurthy!
We need to find those Roombas. This place has gotten a little dusty. And is there a pitcher of PBBJs in the frig?
Reminder: the canoe paddle is for stirring the vat of PGGB's, NOT for swatting the pink elephant currently disguised as a grey elephant. Doing so will mean having to sanitize the elephant.
Also, the SPIITING COBRAS are generally friendly, well, for SPITTING COBRAS, anyway.
The blue-footed boobies can naturally be found in the pool, except when they are doing things unnatural, which is really most of the time so don't bother looking for them in the pool, unless you need an excuse to harass the pool boys.
The Roombas generally behave if you place a beer on top of one and send it in search of a patron. Other than that, all bets are off.
Ohhh, and never throw a handful of mashed potatoes at anyone, LIKE THIS!!! *Lobs a fistful of spuds at maggie*
Oh! Look what I found: the marshmallow guns are hidden under the bar.
*jumps on the bar and blasts a round of marshmallows at mrgroo*
Whoo hoo! Parteeeeeee time.
Here they go again!
**grabs a PGGB, a pillow, and hides behind the bar*
I thought I'd better rattle the cage so the newcomers know that they should plow right in and have some fun with the roombas, the water buffalos and the BEM (bug-eyed monster).
Don't be shy! Comment on the reading threads, note what plans you have on the weekend in that particular thread (because we love hearing what you're doing), and make friends.
*opens door a bit wider and pushes the BEM back a bit*
He's somewhat reluctant to push himself forward at least initially, but he can become rambunctious.
The Pool Boys help keep the BEM in line. Sometimes, the BEM has to keep the Pool Boys in line...
Let's have some Adult Ice Tea.... what are the names of those things? Electric Ice?
oh! PGGB! That sounds much more attractive than Iced Tea! Let's get on it.
Welcome justanotherjohn, Charlotte_Miles, Nick_Kaminsky, telanus, Clemency_Fane, jackson1066, Cycloptic, Lynn.A.Rainey, taylorcreek, Dandeggan, SandyBorrmann, Angelica93, GwendolynBeynon, M.I.V., NatalieSW, LaraAckermannTemplin, jeannecarol, AuthorApril, HamiltonB, SengaUltimate, Shalashaska, KellyJonesPfister, Syriina, Alissa-, ingsme, Emzy1706, FantasyProne, Kathryn_della_Bitta, Catherine2402 and LouieAndTheLizard!
My apologies to those who fell through the cracks in the last couple of months.
>78 clamairy: And welcome to you, too! I looked up FTH on Urban Dictionary, and it was full of "interesting" meanings, but not one I would say to you. :)
I'll bet your version would have landed me a black eye and 2 broken ribs!
Welcome thehawkseye, thesurvivor, freebooksplease, GarenFleener, diana.n, Osama.A.Bahudila, kandaced, ArcticMoon, timboman.frazier, kabrahamson, harrietbrown, Emmi_Kay, nervouspig, greymith, SpikeSix, alvaret, casvelyn, bookdoctor, gjohn4317, Abbas_Daya, MsMaryAnn, LexieS17, Olga_Werby, Cymro-Gaz, sabean, KennyaIkedo, barmarlene, Taphophile13, Henderson-Fantasy and Jamesnyder.
My apologies to everyone I missed in the last four months.
>85 clamairy: And welcome clamairy! Sorry, I forgot to keep this thread up. Glad you found it to restore.
I'll try to be around more often. Do I get points for keeping my library up to date through all of the turmoil?
And lets put some gold stars behind your name on the chart! Welcome to all new comers, please do not be put off by the playful nature of goings on in the Green Dragon pub. It is meant in good fun!
I'm not sure how clamairy finds the new names, I feel sure there have been some new members joined since November 12, but the "recent members" is confusing. So, if you have joined in the last month or so, and would like to be personally welcomed, chime in here and we will do so! We love new members to initiate to the old tried and true traditions. :D
I think I figured it out! If I have missed anyone, know that it was not intended, and feel free to chime in and introduce yourself. Or just steal some cheese if you would prefer. We are easy that way. Welcome all!
lavaturtle, Texsain, Guanhumara, mooingzelda, WhirlUpSea, kerryn.griffis, FeiMiami, Clearmadness, Morteana, TL_Classical, Book-Dragon1952, emmorystump, Arwa1406, NickR.B3, sandra.verga, jonmay11, seek.kolinahr, Uasal, Tor-Ole, websterhamster, JordanBakerAuthor, sat78, WholeHouseLibrary, Aurora_Springer
I cannot tell a lie. I have a definite picture in my head of how some of you look based on your names. I'm looking at you, mooingzelda, lavaturtle and websterhamster. :D
Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!
*starts serving PGGB's* to all who are
Google it, baby!
Welcome Naomiq, polestar, RobertBarrett, AndrewHiggins, EllsbethB, earthwindwalker, anna982, Trent1492, kale.dyer, Suspected.Spam and YuukiYuukoWar.
Step on in, folks! It's a friendly crowd that bustles in and out of this place. Speak up and let us get to know you!
Yes, welcome all *pours PGGB's for all takers*
And welcome back, Clam! *FTH!!!*
WE'VE MISSED YOU, FEARLESS LEADER!
May I extend a special welcome to Hardy_Wilson, who has just joined the pub. Like me he lives in Durban, so I am no longer the most isolated member here :). I think that "honour" now passes to Seanie, since Choreocrat vanished. Hardy, there's cheese and chat where you find them, but beware of the Roombas and Groo's PGGBs (Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters).
Welcome Hardy_Wilson, pearlsandtopaz, KenMagee, draeke, sdatwood, vjaf.smith, Library.Tech.Chick, derekprior, mirikayla, badddancer, Sasscat, kruset, D.K.Roman, Rose2332, C33Cunningham, ice_conda and naturalnumber!
Congrats, >99 hfglen:, you must be thrilled. :o)
>98 mrgrooism: A belated thanks, my friend.
I'm new! I had to join. For obvious reasons. I've been using this name as my email/website since the mid-1990s... and not because of Tolkein, oddly enough. McCaffrey's Pern had much more to do with it :)
>101 greendragon9: Welcome! Dig around in the pub a bit and I'm sure you will find some bits and pieces to enjoy. Just be aware of the SPITTING COBRAS and mutant Roombas and don't go reaching into dark corners. Some of the Smurfs bite.
The cobras wouldn't bother me, being fellow reptilians... but the Roombas? Yikes!
Welcome, greendragon9! I believe you're going to fit right in. :o)
Welcome Janne97, angiehill777, lawrencegerschel, Allama, midnightalice, NicoleJuedes and boredandblue2 as well!
Where did the marshmallow pop-guns get put? I can't find them.
Welcome JasonRiedy, kip_kitto, sannahines, greenlotus, beckrobertson, Fluffball, Bookmomsgl, olivia.burdon, ivonava, varaham, bhabeck and AngelaBWP!
*waves* Come on in and get to know everyone! The reading threads are good sources of recommendations and the cooking threads can sometimes be quite fattening!
Hi I'm Dusty, an avid fan of SF in the 60s,but lived for a decade in Africa, with no bookshops or libraries nearby. On return to UK I was disconcerted to see all the old classic authors of the 50s and 60s were no longer on the library shelves, instead all these HUGE fantasy volumes, including the depressing Stephen Donaldson and the ubiquitous Piers Anthony and Terry Brooks, and what little SF was there was cyberpunk etc.So I drifted away from the genre,(apart from Lois McMaster Bujold,Anne McCaffrey and C J Cherry of course)and it wasnt till 2012 I rediscovered the genre. I am steadily working my way through the Hugos (read49/64) and Nebulas (30/52) and love colonization and first contact novels, but still have a soft spot for the 40s and 50s stuff.
Also like UF(but not paranormalromance unless outstanding) and dip a toe occasionally in weird fiction
I am a shelfari refugee, and its been a traumatic year, since we all moved to Leafmarks only for it to be closing down too. Most of the time has been spent moving data setting up groups etc,and sadly my reading of spec fic is a bit down, less than 30 books read this year, rather low for me. Now the cataloguing and editing seem to be finally drawing to an end,so I look forward to reading more and also chatting to you all,you seem a great lot,and I forsee the TBR,already arranged as a tasteful double archway, likely to become a triple layer. Cant wait!
Welcome, dustydigger! Check out all of the personal reading threads; this is a fairly eclectic crowd in terms of reading materials and I'm sure you'll find one or two kindred souls whose selections are to your taste. Don't be shy about starting a personal reading thread of your own. It's always interesting to hear new voices.
I just discovered Lois McMaster Bujold myself, but have been a fan of C.J. Cherryh for awhile.
>109 dustydigger: So glad you found us! I left Shelfari a long time ago, but remember it as a lively and fun place. :) After you spend a bit of time poking around here, I'm sure you will find it to be terrific also. Oh, be careful if you poke far into the corners of the closets in the pub, there reside things like modified Roombas, snickering Smurfs and occasionally a SPITTING COBRA! ;)
Hey! as long as you leave a bottle of my fave tipple, whisky, on the counter, I will def avoid the depths of the cupboards.I have had personal experience of being 5 feet away from a black mamba, quite small but very deadly,so I will leave the cobras to rule the roost.
Welcome ScoLgo, threadnsong, asfaloth12, TheDenizen, Darth-Heather, leBleuCheese and the aforementioned dustydigger!
I'm glad you've joined the group, and we all hope you stick around.
leBleuCheese had better watch their back around here. Not sure all the cheese fanciers in this pub can resist a nibble!
Has anyone ever experimented with virtual mojitos? Did they work out? Just wondering out loud in an idle moment (And solely in the interests of the betterment of science in the long run, of course).
Hi, everyone! Welcome. Pull up a chair and join the conversation.

Wow. The group sent me a greeting in January, and I find it in September - is that some sort of record?
A belated "Hi!" to everyone

>142 maggie1944: We're mostly good, I believe. I'm so sorry about your sweet dog. *big hugs*
Thanks, Clam. I do miss the pup! And I'm not doing much reading. I think I'm going to back up a little bit from the 75 books group, as I'm not doing much reading. I'm reading dog rescue sites. Went and visited a rescue agency and saw three possible dogs. One of which I like a little bit. She needs a health check and is not yet quite available.
Anyway, I hope to see you all around here a bit, too.
>144 maggie1944: Good luck with the dog search. I do hope you not only start reading again, but that you drop by The Dragon more often.
>144 maggie1944: I was just thinking about you this morning and realised you hadn't been around in a while. I hope you find the perfect dog to share your life with.
Welcome UncommonTart, Serenova_Phoenix, Mandee84, Joseph_Scifres and Melissa_E_Beckwith!
Welcome abcds, catwithwifi, Linidri, tim_lynch, JeffMcDonald, ZippyKatt and Black_Dragon92!
Don't be afraid to jump right it.
>151 gilroy: The roombas got into them. Didn't you see the fireworks?
Um, I think it was all consumed. Time for a new batch? Although I did see a stash of Kickapoo Joy Juice underneath the pillows in the closet.
Welcome Zathera, superchunk, flavia_ia and MinuteMarginalia!
I see one of you has already found us on Facebook. :o)
