Jasper Ffode's Nursery Crimes/Jack Spratt books are set in Reading (highly appropriate, given that many of the characters there don't realise they're from stories and are therefore people of dubious reality, or PDRs).

Two books so far and both are hilarious as well as working incredibly well as who-dunits!

1. The Big Over Easy
2. The Fourth Bear

Kell, I'm grateful for the endorsement. I've been interested, but not bothered finding out more about them.... even the minimal effort of looking at responses on LibraryThing. You've just upped my interest.
