I believe it was a male author, written in the 90's (?). The main character's name was Jane. The story was about a dangerous game, whereby she would be given a clue, and would have to go to a particular location, and perform the task or actions as instructed, and then be given another clue or set of instructions for the next level. Can anyone help me with this? I used to think it was a Greg Iles book, but I can't find anything of his that sounds remotely close. I often thought it would make a good movie. Please help me if you can, and end my suffering! :) Thanks!

I know of two 90s-era thriller series with protagonists named Jane, but I'm not sure if they match your 'dangerous game' memory.

Maureen Tan's Jane Nichols series (A.K.A. Jane) stars a British spy dealing with complicated acts of infiltration and information retrieval.

Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefied series (Vanishing Act) stars a Native American woman who specializes in hiding people. Need a new identity? Mob wants you dead? Jane can help with that.

ETA: The Perry books are a better guess and are better written, imo.

Thanks for your help, but unfortunately, those are not the book I'm looking for. :)
