Brand new group for me; have a question for someone with a good memory re: Hollywood roman a' clef ("Valley of the Dolls" example) novels to answer; may have to email me goodonewon@hotmail.com, not sure. Can you name the one that had a fictitious Lucille Ball referring to a fictitious Liza Minnelli as the "snow queen" ... worried about the rather promiscuous young star having an affair with her even younger (and "innocent"?) son. She (Lucy character) had been a friend of the star's Mother, who was even a bigger singing star who drank and drugged herself to an early grave. She also has her own daughter who can't seem to make it in show business (and even, by the end of the novel, dies in a car crash which may be a suicide (but certainly never happened in real life!) The "snow queen" ends up in a wild affair with an older famous director who ends up dumping her with cruel words that he only romanced her because her more talented and legendary mother had given birth to her. And the Liza character also has a marriage (or involvement) along the way with a producer (may be a take-off of Jack Haley Jr) who is supposedly straight, but gets seduced by the man next door in his garage ... in his car.
ANYWAY, this has been driving me nuts for years, trying to remember its title so I can re-read it .... so help me out!

Hi,
This question is much better to ask in the Name That Book Group. Be sure to read the instructions at the top before you post it there!

Hey, thank you for ANY help, except .... I am so new to this, I can't even find the Name That Book Group! In fact, I "starred" my question, and have no idea if that was "wise" or "the dumbest move of the day!" :-) If you have any way to move it FOR me, go to it!
(But I am impressed to see ANY response so quickly!)

Welcome Mike! Just click the link in anglemark's post (I'd reproduce it for you here except that I don't know how.) Once you're there, read the instructions carefully. They get testy if you don't have a descriptive subject for your post. Next, scroll down to the bottom of the instructions, just above the topics. Click the link to make a post.

Hey, for a dummy trying to understand all this ....... it has been GOOD to have friends like anglemark and JackieCarroll ... thank you!
And I did find 'Name That Book Group' and I am posted there too, asking for better memories to jog MINE! Since it is a roman a' clef novel, I hope it is permissible to name the actual celebrities being parodied .... because there weren't any "shockers." :-) :-)

>4 JackieCarroll: Have a look here - https://www.librarything.com/topic/129158 - you'll find some really good stuff, including how to put a link into a post (nicely as in >2 anglemark:, not how I've just done it!).
