I read this book in the 70's, but it was possibly written in 50's or 60's. A teen girl moves to CA to live with her mother's friend's family. She lives there during the school year and meets a couple of boys. Typical chick lit/lite romance type of teen novel.

This is much too recent, but Summer Sisters (1998) has a similar plotline of an unrelated girl moving in with her friend's family for summers over a period of several years. Teen romance was a big part.

Ahh, my favorite of Beverly Cleary's four YA romance novels! I think it actually stands out from the typical chick lit of that time, because of her going away from her family to live, and actually realizing the difference between liking someone and liking the idea of someone.
