Who were your favorite characters in Slade House? With whom did you most identify? Why?

While I can't say she was my favourite, I did identify with Mrs. Bishop -- probably because I'm a mom. She wanted her child to fit in, to make a good impression, to broaden his horizons...I can only imagine the fear she felt on his behalf.

Sally was probably my favorite. She seemed so genuine and down-to-earth, I was really rooting for her to escape Slade House. I was totally suckered by Todd helping her, and thought maybe she found an ally in the story. That entire chapter had me clenching my fists - first the brownies that Sally gave into eating, then the aperture opening in one of the rooms (a real chance for escape), Todd and the faulty almost-escape, and finally the jade fox pin. It was cool to see her sister in the next chapter, she was a character I was curious to learn more about.

I'd go with Sally too, and maybe her sister. The chapter with Sally was definitely the most gripping, but in the next chapter when her sister realized she'd missed hours worth of text messages I was really shocked. After that I could not put the book down and read to the end in one sitting.

Also, is it wrong that I quite enjoyed the twins? They were downright nasty people, but such great characters.

No, I agree with you jonathankws! The deviant side in me was curious to see how the twins would fool their next victim, each time. Awful the things they did, but since I had a good idea of what they were going to do after the 2nd chapter, I might as well enjoy the ride!

I liked Sally and Freya, too, but I also liked Gordon Edmonds. He just seemed like a generally nice guy who wanted a bit better life after he had been knocked down a bit.

And of course I liked the twins. Evil can be more entertaining than nice.

My favorite character was Fred Pink ... the Mr. Pink that we actually met. He was sneaky and crazy and optimistic... and I liked what he really was too.
And Sally was a solid second... Of course her sincerity and expectations and real focus were very genuine.

With which did I most identify? Probably Freya -- curious and interested in finding the real answer, regardless of how unlikely, but still skeptical and thoughtful with the information with which I'm provided.

>7 avanders: I enjoyed reading Fred Pink's bit too.

Question for all: At what point in the conversation between Fred Pink and Freya did you realize that it might be a trap? -- I thought maybe when Freya kept looking at her tomato juice and was decidedly not drinking it. I thought there was too much emphasis placed on it for it to be nothing.

>8 kristilabrie: so late... Even when she walked down the stairs and ended up back in the interview room, I didn't realize it. I thought maybe Freya was doing it - unknowingly tapping some serious powers.. or that Pink was doing it to prove it to her. But didn't even think that maybe we were already there!!

I agree. I didn't suspect.

p.s. how do you use the spoiler hiding feature?

just use a <spoiler> tag before the text you want to hide, and be sure to close it with </spoiler>.
