Well it is almost the new year! And I am super excited to begin my new reading log. Since January of 15 I have been moved to yet another Library in our system and now I help people with writing/editing resumes and how to look for employment. I miss ordering teen books - but I am at a much larger branch and I have been enjoying it thus far.

I surpassed my goal of 75 books in 2015 and beat my 2013 record of 109 - this year's goal (drum roll please) is 75 :) LOL my goal is 75 but if I surpass it again YAY! if I don't reach it like in 2014 then - YAY! At least I got to read right?

This year I hope to record all the children's picture books I have read - I have never ever done this and now I can't remember what books I have read and which ones I haven't - the ones I like and don't - and that is a lot of books not to remember - so there you go :) - for me these books don't count toward the 75.

Good luck to all my quiet lurkers/stalkers and know that I will be stalking/lurking on your threads too...

I'd be terribly tempted to read every picture book that arrived if I worked in a public library! I guess it's a good thing I work in an academic that mostly collects the award winners with a smattering of others.

Title: Up Close: Elvis Presley
Author:Wilborn Hampton
Date Finished: 1/2/2016
Genre: BIO
Notes: AlphaBio Challenge P
Opinion: It was a quick biography about the King - simple and easy - not a lot of detail... just enough to get an idea of Elvis's life and death.... I'm still no expert and I have read enough to know that I'd like to read something with a little more substance - but I did choose this book based on the it's small size

Title: Sh*tty Mom: The Parenting Guide for the Rest of Us
Author: Laurie Kilmartin and others
Date Finished: 1/3/2016
Genre: Humor
Notes:
Opinion: Oh my God - I'm a Sh*tty Mom - as was my mom before me LOL - but we are super funny us Sh*tty Moms - my favorites.... "From Chapter 48 When Seeing an Infant Triggers a Mental Illness That Makes You Want to Have Another Baby: DON'T HAVE SEX - Your womb cannot be trusted - it wants a baby. Every month that you don't let your womb have a baby, it cries red tears" - and - "From Chapter 46 Animals That Need to Be Fired from Their Job at the Zoo: MONKEYS - Monkeys are triple threats: They fly, they swing, and they masturbate... They hoot, they make creepy eye contact, and lick their lips salaciously. Monkeys live the life that a sex offender can only dream of." - Caution some of this book may be offensive - to be sure you can hang with the Sh*tty Moms take the Sh*tty Mom quiz at the beginning of the book - and come on the title in and of itself should be a warning to the moms without a sense of humor....

Opinion: Marnie is just tooooooo cute - I liked the brief story of how the cutest dog ever (besides my own) was adopted - and the cuteness meter just kept going up - I think it's because of that little pink tongue and head tilt!

Title: Hot Guys and Kittens and Hot Guys and Baby Animals
Author: Audrey Khuner
Date Finished: 1/3/2016

Notes: Color Cover Blue
Opinion: It was pretty lame - all the animals were totally adorable - but my definition of hot guys and the authors are not one in the same - only a couple of hotties and the small descriptions on the side weren't all that funny - giving it a 2/10 for overall animal cuteness

Ten Little Fish 7/10 - cute, rhyming, and quick - a decent read

The Birthday Queen 6/10 - it was a little boring but the surprise ending revealing who the birthday queen is - just amazing

How to Be a Dog 9/10 - oh my gosh - the Troll loved this one - we read it in the library but had to bring it home to teach Belle (our brown beagle) how to be a dog - of course I loved the inappropriateness of the dog greeting visitors, using the can, and meeting the neighbors - we love bathroom humor in our house! - don't know what I'm talking about - go check out this book

Title: Things I’ve Said to My Children
Author: Nathan Ripperger
Date Finished: 1/3/2016
Genre: Humor
Notes:
Opinion: I have not once nor do I ever hope to say to the Troll “Please don’t eat the Goldfish crackers you’ve put in your butt” - as with many of the things this man has said to his children I did not relate - and I am pretty sure I’ve said some silly things to my child and the children I worked with in the preschool - and many of these “Things” he has said to his children were not even funny - come on now - so that is a big fat NO for this book for me - I’m taking No-It-All advice from Grumpy Cat and telling everyone else to just say NO - but if you must it is super quick

Click Clack Peep - 6/10 - I liked Click Clack Moo and this one was cute too - baby duck can’t sleep and only Duck knows what to do

Waddle! Waddle! - 7/10 -Penguins are cute - and the penguins in this one are no exception! But can one of the penguins find is dancing friend without being eaten?

Motor Dog - 2/10 -Uh NO - the best part of this book for me was the picture of the rocket cat on the last page - I just didn’t care for it all that much

Shh! We Have a Plan - 6/10 - Plans don’t always work out though do they?

My new year has started out great on the reading front but poorly everywhere else - can I get a do over :) I'm thinking I need a chocolate and a back rub and maybe - just maybe - I will feel better after the last few days of nothing going my way....

I was helping out a friend by watching her dogs while she was out of town - all was good Wed. night and thurs. night when I went to check on them - but oh good lord - friday morning was the worst - apparently I didn't close the kennel door tightly and the puppy got out - which didn't cause to much damage - nothing was chewed on - no trash gone through - but OMG the dog had vomitted and had the runs all over the house :(

- so after cleaning that, the puppy, and the kennel up and securing the kennel door - I drive up to the laundry mat to wash the cushion covers to the couch that I couldn't determine what he had done to mess up - vomit, poo, something else?

then it was off to the pet store for flea control for my own puppies because with our unseasonably warm weather we not only got tall grass but fleas again - and in abundance - time to bathe the fleas off our dogs and then back to check on the friends dogs - were the puppy has once again pooed all over the kennel

and I'm talking blow out - I'm glad we moved the other dogs kennel away from the puppy because he would have been covered in filth just as the kennel, wall, floor was - so time to clean up all the poo again

I go home make dinner, eat with the family and then decide to check on the puppy one more time before going to bed - mind you I was just there like 3 hours ago - how was it? you ask - well there was yet another blow out - but cleaning it wasn't sooooo bad because I got SMART and placed paper towels all around the kennel this time only a little got on the floor and wall :) but the kennel and the puppy were a different matter - by this time I have washed the puppy twice in one day - third times a charm?

The next morning - was exactly the same - clean the puppy - clean the kennel let the dogs stay outside for 1 1/2 hours - plenty of time to read - run errands - eat lunch - check on puppy again - YAY no mess woot woot - let dogs out for 1 and 1/2 hours again and then their momma came home - the puppy was definitely sick

so after the weekend of the poo I was ready to start this week back to work after a 3 day weekend - but I was late for work and then I couldn't actually clock in when I got there because the system decided I needed to change my pass word....

Ever heard of Pecan Pie Pringles? - they start off good but the longer you chew them the nastier they get - don't eat these on the way home from work unless you are desperate - learn from my mistake :P

Tomorrow will be better - I'm sure of it - now if I could only scavenge enough money for a King Sized Hershey's Almond Chocolate Bar - then I would feel amazing

How about a cuteness photo to cheer me up - the Husband caring for one of the Puppies?

and just for giggles here's one of the Troll throwing up Peace Signs - all Thug Life Style LOL

and because I missed sexy sunday - for however long it lasts

>33 scaifea: Yeppers! puppy-poo-plaooza - I like that term - totally described the circus I dealt with :)

Today we got snow - a little less than 2 weeks ago on Christmas day we were in the 80's what is up with the weather - it is drunk and needs to go home

A picture of the branch I work at with snow falling all around on my way into work this morning - by the way the snow has already melted away

Breakfast and a Book at the school today -

The Troll and I were able to get through two picture books - and eat breakfast... we were late because I forgot until about 15 minutes before it started - and then it was hustle Troll if you want to go to breakfast and a book - they should do something like this every morning it may be easier to get the Troll motivated :)

the two books we read were

Goodbye/Hello - 4/10 it was okay - I think great if you are moving and have a small child that needs help coping

Nobody's Nosier Than a Cat - 6/10 - I thought it was cute... some rhyming aspects and the Troll even pronounced words correctly that I thought she may get wrong so there is a plus to me.

Also I got to walk her down to her classroom where her teacher told me she gave her a reading test yesterday (to see were she is) and she is right were she is supposed to be... I wish the Troll loved reading as much as I do but she doesn't and I'd rather not fight her into reading and have her hating it even more - there will come a day and a book hopefully - but for now if anyone has any math, zoology, or veterinarian books that a 4th grader may enjoy send them my way -oh and anything that has bathroom humor - the one series of chapter books that I have gotten her to read are the Stick Dog books but nothing else interests her :(

>1 lovelyluck: Happy New Year and new thread! :) And that's awesome you'll be counting picture books this year. It's funny, because I don't plan on reading as many work/library books this year, so I won't have as many.

>2 lovelyluck: Oh, wow, you've already gotten quite a job on the new year. Good work! :)

>16 lovelyluck: Awesome family photos! :)

>21 lovelyluck: I've seen that one at work, but never picked it up because I'm not a mom; but now I just may have to. :D

>22 lovelyluck: So cute! :) I just ILL'd that one. Thanks for the rec!

>23 lovelyluck: Surprisingly, I haven't read that one, but I'll work on it.

>24 lovelyluck: Sorry to hear about the double whammy disappointment. I've only read Hot Guys and Baby Animals and liked it, but it's been about 3 years since I read it, so I don't remember it all. Bummer. :(

>28 lovelyluck: I brought this one home a week or so ago for my mom and me to read/flip-through. She did; I didn't. But I do remember a few photos in there that really made me smile.

>29 lovelyluck: Omg, I have to ILL that one, too. My pomeranian has a lovie, too (a squeaky raccoon), except he likes to hump it over and over and over again, especially at night when I'm trying to sleep. :D

>30 lovelyluck: I think "Please don’t eat the Goldfish crackers you’ve put in your butt" will make my bucket list of things to say to someone, even if it's to myself. :P

>32 lovelyluck: Uh oh. Squirts out both ends are never fun. :( (Strangely, we just had the same thing happen at our house recently--dog-wise, not people-wise :D--but they had gotten into to some moldy food. Dogs: they'll eat cat shit in pounds, but one bite of moldy food and they turn into double-ended vomit/poo faucets.)

Pecan Pie Pringles? Seriously? I don't like either, so I'm glad you bit the bullet and lived to tell us how bad it was.

Oh, yeah, I've forgotten to do the Sexy Sunday thing. I'm working 6 days/week right now, so I'm walking in a stupor: "What day...? What hour...? What year...?"

(My pc's slow. I'm still waiting for some of the photos to load.... Puppies? Puppies, where are you?)

Even if you are not a mom I think you will enjoy the Sh*tty Mom guide to parenting, and you will definitely need to ILL some of those other books too... they are cute...

If you have to remind yourself not to eat the goldfish crackers you've put in your butt you will be my hero - I'm not sure you should tell anyone though - they just might not understand your awesomeness!

What is it about cat poo for dogs? Have you ever had a dog dig into your bathroom trash and eat the used feminine products too? My old pup used to sneak into the bathroom and eat that nasty stuff - but she too never got sick - love those crazy animals - and nasty ones too - but there still lovable even when they do nasty things...

Pecan Pie Pringles - blahak - you are welcome

Whoops Sexy Sunday - I missed it last week because we were running around all day! but I will be sure to post something tomorrow!

Lilly and I had a read a thon tonight - mainly because all the library books are due to be returned :) and I already paid them $10 so here is the list of what we read tonight

The Little Bear Book 3/10 - eh - we didn't care for this one too much

Frog and Fly Six Slurpy Stories - 8/10 - I think of all the stories we read tonight this was our mutual favorite!

,img width = 300 src = https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/P/054504216X.01._SX142_SY224_SCLZ...;
Cat Dreams - 5/10 - We have read better cat books than this one - but the pictures were cute and some a little funny.

Dogs on the Bed - 6/10 - I liked the pictures of the dogs best - it was cute but not great...

Socksquatch 6/10 - somewhat cute - I liked it alright

Little Owl Lost - 7/10 - a little similar to Are You My Mother - but quicker - little owl was cute and we liked him and squirrel

Inside Mouse Outside Mouse - 5/10 - the pictures were cute - I did not like how the story wen from one mouse to the other the way it did - I would have done most of inside mouse then most of outside mouse and had them meet at the end - but eh

Bulldog's Big Day - 7/10 - I liked this one because it reminded me of my customers at the library who are looking for jobs - I spend a great deal of time looking over resumes and help people revise and create them... a lot of the time customers are discouraged because they haven't heard back from anyone - but they need to be like Bulldog and believe that today is going to be the big day and try - but on the kid side it was a cute book and we liked it - The Troll from the start kept saying Bulldog should be a baker

>41 lovelyluck: Of course I'd stop by! :) I'm not very good at keeping up with people's threads, but I'm working on that.

I'm sure I would get a kick out of Sh*tty Mom. I think we actually have this one at our branch; I've seen the cover before. And I did ILL the Marnie book, which I loved (thanks again!). I'm in the process of ILL'ing the Dirty Bow Wow book....so we'll see if they can find me a copy. Scratch that. I just found out we do have a downloadable copy, so yay! :)

LOL! True, I probably shouldn't tell anyone I have to remind myself not to eat the goldfish crackers I've put in my butt. ;) That's why I'll keep my mouth shut and just share them with random strangers. *shudders* Ok, that even grossed me out.

Honestly, I've been told it's the undigested protein in cat food that dogs love in the cat's poop. It makes sense, since dogs usually love cat food anyway, though it's terrible for their kidneys in the long-run. And yes! I've had dogs constantly scout the small trash cans out for bloody tampons, pads, dirty underwear...you name it, it goes in their mouth. :D Yes, they are crazy and nasty, but you gotta love them. Except when they want to kiss you with their poo-breath mouth. XP

I haven't done my Sexy Sundays at all this year. :( I kind of miss doing it. And maybe I should do it again with VD Day coming up. We'll see.

Oh, and yes, I finally saw the puppies! :) It took awhile but, "Aawwww!" *bellyrubs*

>46 lovelyluck: Much love for The Puppies! :) They look super sweet. The bottom pic reminds me of my mom's dogs. They're medium-sized dogs and still like to perch on the back of furniture like they're cats.

>50 lovelyluck: That's such an awesome book! :) I think I read it last year or something.

>54 lovelyluck: No pictures in a cookbook?? That's like not having pictures in a dirty magazine. It's sacrilege! I'm not into cooking, but I love coconut! I use it mostly as a conditioner, moisturizer, and curing yeast infections. Yay! Aren't you glad you clicked that spoiler? :P

Opinion: I was not happy - towards the end the author finally gave the reader information about Dennis Wilson and his life but the beginning felt like a fan's idea of what was great Beach Boys music... at first it didn't bother me but as the book continued I found myself skipping parts about how great this song was and how awesome the harmonies of this track was - the book should have said - my feelings about the Beach Boys song - how much I idolized Dennis Wilson - and a little info about his life and what influenced him... I was just disappointed - the total amount of information I was provided by reading this book probably could have been googled with in an hour - instead it took me a couple of weeks to get through this horrible author's fan writing... oh and the pictures where not the greatest - I found tons of better online - of course the story was written in the 90's - but still Dennis Wilson passed in 1983 - he should have been able to get some better pictures

So I haven't gotten as far along this month in my reading as I had hoped... While I'm not selling girl scout cookies this year I did take on a role in the Library's Staff Development Day Committee - as well as becoming a lead on an interview panel - updating instructions and training on equipment - and starting a new role which requires instructions and new rules to be set forth - I also updated and presented new bylaws for the PTA and conducted a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the school for the PTA .... so reading and me this month have not been productive - I feel - Audios have been about my only medium... I'm almost finished with one other book but I haven't even touched my biography challenge this month :(

Title: The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty
Author: Anne Rice aka A.N. Roquelaure
Date Finished: 3/22/2016
Genre:Adult Fiction
Notes: Recommended by a fellow reader who apparently doesn't know crap about good books
Opinion: This is the story of Sleeping Beauty waking up from a 100 year sleep by Christian Grey... I mean some Prince - I didn't feel this story - I didn't like it - I hated the writing style - I just didn't care for it... It had the standard romantical (i'm not sure this is even a word LOL) BDSM, Master/submissive, hard core loving that every romance has - WHAT you mean this is not normal in romance? - Well it was much more aggressive than Fifty Shades of Grey - there was more mm, ff, mf, mff, mmf, orgies than anything I have ever read before - but the way the master/submissive was played out was too aggressive for me and I found myself more appalled than entertained... I finished it because I was 100 pages in before I decided I definitely didn't like it and it was only 253 pages long

I think it is Rice's writing style - it's jarring to me and doesn't flow very well - at least for my reading style which is a fast skimmer of boring parts - I always realize after the fact that I need to slow down with Anne Rice books - so I will probably give the rest of the series a chance - but I still don't trust that other reader anymore >100 saraslibrary: it wasn't you - I promise!

Title: The Beach Quilt
Author: Holly Chamberlin
Date Finished: 3/28/2016
Genre:Adult Fiction
Notes:
Opinion: It was long - and fairly boring - but I did enjoy it somewhat or else I would have given up back in February when I started reading it... It's about female relationships and teen pregnancy - the end had me teary eyed because I had just watched Disney's UP :( and it (the ending of the book) was a little sad - but made twice as much because I was crying over the relationship of Ellie and Carl - anyway this is not a review about UP LOL - The Beach Quilt was an alright read - the chapters were small and it took me a while only because I had other pressing stories to read and this became the bathroom book

Date Finished: 5/4/2016
Genre:J Fiction
Notes:
Opinion: I really enjoyed this story and even recommended it to a co-worker whose son has trouble find books that he likes - she loved the description I had given and placed a hold on it... I picked it up because of the cover - who doesn't love a video-gaming beaver eating doritos and drinking soda? - The story was super interesting geared I think to 5th - 8th grade depending on maturity level - anyway the main character is a slacker and when his parents tell him he needs to get involved with something or his game system privileges will be lost he makes up his own club and becomes president expecting to never have to worry about it - because "no-body looks at the schools website" - WRONG - this club becomes the most popular club in the history of clubs - so it was cute, fast, and enjoyable

Funny story behind how I came into possession of this book: My co-worker and I both love and listen to the Bobby Bones show - in the am - on the drive to work - and we would discuss the show while preparing the library for opening (I have since moved to a different branch). When the book was about to come out - Mr. Bones had a live book signing where you could ask him a question and he would answer - if you bought a copy of his book - which he would also sign. So I purchased the book for my co-worker who had just been promoted to Librarian for a another branch of the system - thinking "this will be a great gift".

Last week on 6/6/16 she was at my branch for a week long training and said "I have something for you" and I said "I have something for you too." Turns out she had vacationed in Nashville and went to a book signing for Mr. Bones and got me a signed copy also. We think alike I guess. What a great story right?

Title: Until the End
Author: Abbi Glines
Date Finished: 08/25/16
Genre: Fiction
Notes:
Opinion:Loved this ending to the Sea Breeze series - it gave you a story you've been getting bits and pieces of the entire series and nicely wrapped up the series books with a little epilogue at the end for all of the characters - and a beginning for new ones - what a whammy there - I hope those stories get started soon - I can't wait for a Sea Breeze/Rosemary Beach tie in series

So, I have already finished the 52 book pick up challenge that my library hosts every year - and I'm working toward my goal of 100 for the year - but I'm only 7 books away for the 75 challenge... I'm currently reading two books now - and I have a bunch that I just picked up yesterday - I think I will finish 75 by the end of next month - woot woot - I GOT THIS

It's been awhile since I have been able to update - working full time and being the PTA president is time consuming - I have decided to not take on anything else in the coming year - I'm tired!

I will update this thread soon with the list of books - including children's book

Wouldn't it be nice if 2017 was a year of peace and goodwill.
A year where people set aside their religious and racial differences.
A year where intolerance is given short shrift.
A year where hatred is replaced by, at the very least, respect.
A year where those in need are not looked upon as a burden but as a blessing.
A year where the commonality of man and woman rises up against those who would seek to subvert and divide.
A year without bombs, or shootings, or beheadings, or rape, or abuse, or spite.

2017.

Festive Greetings and a few wishes from Malaysia!
