Link to Previous thread, with dormant journals:
After consulting with clamairy, I will be updating and maintaining the Green Dragon Personal Reading Journals Master Thread.
Please post below, or send me a message if:
•I missed you (sorry), or you start a brand new thread.
•I made a mistake. (There are probably a few!)
•Your thread lives in another group, and you would like to have it included here.
•You have a reading blog outside of LibraryThing, and would like to share it with us.
(I'll make a separate list for those.)
I was wondering about this thread, but didn't have the mojo to take it on, so kept quiet. Thank you, SylviaC!
>12 clamairy: You did most of the work in previous years, Clam. I just had to copy and update. But it really added to my appreciation of how much you have done over the years to make the Green Dragon the welcoming place that it is!
Thanks, you two. I updated the GD group page so the Reading Journals link points to this new thread.
Also, I did have a 2015 thread, but it's missing from the links above. I just never got very far for obvious reasons. I am planning to add the rest of my 2015 reads at some point. It's here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/188158
Wish us luck. I am taking my kids to the Florida Keys for a few days. It's our first trip in a very long time. (Eleven years, to be exact.) We were all feeling the need for some sun, warmth and, mostly, a change of scenery.
Ooops. That will teach me to post after a couple of glasses of sauvignon blanc... Heh heh I forgot to sign out of the admin account.
Have a wonderful trip, Clam--and thanks to both you and Sylvia. I hope we'll see more of you this year!
>15 GreenDragon: Thanks for changing the link in the group description. And I added your 2015 thread to the list. Don't know why I didn't find it when I was digging around for everyone else's.
Hope you have a great trip! It's supposed to get cold and stormy here, so I be thinking of you in all that sun.
>15 GreenDragon: and >18 SylviaC: This is the real evidence that this group has become a community. Everyone contributes to the good of the whole to the best of their capabilities. And when one needs to step away for a bit, another steps forward. I, for one, can't tell you how much it is appreciated.
(Cue the sound of the masses cheering)
>1 SylviaC: thank you SO much for doing this. And a big thank you to clam, for all the work done before.
Thank you Sylvia, great job!
Clam, I hope you and the kids have a great time in Florida. You deserve a break.
Just started my 2016 thread here: https://www.librarything.com/topic/214798
Thank you for keeping this updated!
I'm tracking my reading in the 2016 challenge group: https://www.librarything.com/topic/195691
Op, I missed this thread this year, here's my (sadly neglected so far) 2016 journal: https://www.librarything.com/topic/211149 Thank you!
There has been a cluster of updates lately. Please let me know if I missed anyone, or made any mistakes.
If anyone would like to share their personal reading blog from outside of LT, I can make a list of those, too.
*quietly raises hand* I just made mine...
I have updated the list with all of the 2017 journal threads that I have been able to find. It is highly probable that I have missed some, or made mistakes. I would appreciate it if you could each check that the link by your name leads to your 2017 thread if you have one. And please let me know if I missed you, or if you have a journal in another group that you would like to have included in the Green Dragon listings.
>36 SylviaC: This is wonderful, Sylvia. Thank you for putting this together.
I trust your posting indicates you are on the mend. Keep well.
Thank you! I wasn't expecting this so soon.
We need to talk about shifting the responsibility for this off your shoulders by turning it into a group wiki page. It might be a pain to do initially, but then folks can easily update their own links, and the rest of us can take care of the people who aren't comfortable doing their own updating.
>37 gilroy: Thanks for keeping it gentle!
>38 pgmcc: I'm feeling much better the last two days, except for the sudden crashes. It's nice to feel like I might be part of the world again.
>39 clamairy: It's not that big of a job once I got the formatting set up last year—just a matter of updating as new threads appear. The main disadvantage of doing it this way is that upkeep is tied to a single user. Either way is workable, and I'm content to continue as it is, or to assist in converting it to a wiki page if someone with more wiki experience wants to set it up.
>42 gilroy: It's because of the Dickens/cruller duel! :o)
ETA: We have several in there. I don't usually check.
Hi, Spurts. Nice of you to join us here! I've added your thread to the list.
This thread should be up to date as of now, and I will continue to update daily as new threads are posted. Please check your listing and let me know if I made any mistakes. If you have a thread that lives in another LT group which you would like to have included here, give me the link and I will add it.
I'm looking forward to following all the personal reading threads.
I've been updating daily as I see new threads. Please let me know if I missed anyone or made any mistakes.
I'm baa-ack (after *cough* three years *cough*).
Here's my link
>51 SylviaC: Thank you. And thank you.
I’m going to star this thread because it’s useful for finding everyone quickly, but would it be easier (on you, too) to have a wiki and park the link in the Green Dragon introductory bumph?
>52 humouress: That's been mentioned before, but we haven't done anything about it. Frankly, at this point, it's easier for me to deal with the little flurry of activity in January than to migrate it to a wiki. But if anyone with wiki experience wants to organize one, I'd be happy to help. The biggest issue with the current format is that it's tied to a single user. On the other hand, I don't know how much participation we would get in maintaining a wiki, given that the GD isn't as much of a dedicated journaling group as something like the 75ers.
There is a link to this thread in the Green Dragon introduction, along with a bunch of other stuff.
My first half of 2017 reading list: https://www.librarything.com/topic/247373. My 2018 list is too new/short to count.
>58 clamairy: You're welcome.
I'm just editing it to separate out the letters, but it's repetitive work that has me nodding off. I'm halfway through the alphabet. If anyone wants to chip in and help, please go ahead. Click on an 'edit' button to see how it goes.
ETA I created the wiki page at the end of January, but I see there’s been an update to >1 SylviaC: at the end of February, so they just need to be matched up.
>59 humouress: Thanks for setting that up!
When new journals have been started since you set up the wiki, I've been adding them to both this page and the wiki, just to keep them both in sync while getting going.
I finally remembered to edit the new wiki link into the header on the group page. Many thanks, both of you!
>61 GreenDragon: I always feel a bit startled when the pub starts posting. Makes me feel I've had a few to many and should head home. ;)
>62 MrsLee: If I've had enough to have the pub talking to me, I'd be looking for a room in the back to sleep. Wouldn't feel safe going home. :)
Oops; it slipped my mind. I've finally finished editing the wiki page. It should be good to go now.
>68 humouress: Many thanks for doing this! All your work is greatly appreciated!
>68 humouress: It looks fantastic! Thank you so much for doing it! I will update the first post with a link to the wiki. And one here, too:
Something I thought to ask, with the new year upon us: Are we to update our own listing with our new reading threads or should we still post them here so only a limited number of hands disturbs the wiki (The wiki-force?)
>73 gilroy: I'd think the main draw of putting it on the wiki is that we can edit our own listing. (I just did, and restarted my own journal after 3 years, thanks to your post!)
>73 gilroy: Like saltmanz, I chose to update my own when I created my thread on January 1. I like doing stuff myself when empowered to do so.
Besides, I’ve somehow gone through life without ever editing a wiki anything and I thought it was time to expand my horizons. On the other hand, I don’t think the 5 seconds it took added too much to my horizons. ;)
I think we should join our 5 seconds together and bathe in the glory of a 10 second horizon. I was a wiki virgin too, but now I am not. Go wiki!
I edited and saved, but the change doesn't show up. Is there something else I need to know?
Well, another wiki virgin, or rather almost virgin here. Way back when I tried to do something on the wiki, when it first started, and failed. I will try this weekend to add my thread. Perhaps then I may become and experienced wiki person.
>82 humouress:, oh, my mistake--I thought I would see something change at the top of this thread as well. But of course that's not it. Thanks for checking.
And thanks for all your work setting this up I do refer to it, and being on it myself feels like having a kind of anchor in the group--a commitment of sorts, even.
I've updated mine. I found it was very easy to update, even without a lot of wiki experience.
I'm glad to see people adding their journal threads to the wiki. The main reason for the change is that the old format was tied to a single user for all the editing, whereas everyone can make their own entries on the wiki. If anyone needs help adding their thread, I'm sure that if you post here, someone with more wiki experience will be able to help you out.
The wiki is here:
Wheee! I did it! Also, I changed the link at the top which comes back to the GD to https.
I have not added myself to the wiki because I cannot find how to enter the character which begins my username (which I will need, in order to add the appropriate section header).
Can anyone advise please?
>93 -pilgrim-: Added.
Please check it; I used a normal minus sign before and after your username, which is what I see in your message header.
>94 humouress: Ah. You have indexed it under the second letter of my username. That does avoid the problem. I was trying to create an index section heading with the first character, '-', and found that it seemed to cause an underline, rather than the representation of the character itself.
I was proposing to add - after Y, as that is where it comes in most character sets. You would prefer it is treated as an 'invisible' character?
>95 -pilgrim-: Oh - was that the issue? I don’t mind moving it to the end if you prefer; I can have a go (once I get home).
Or wait; I should get all proprietorial and defend my territory and declare ‘You shall do it my way!’, shouldn’t I?
>95 -pilgrim-: I’m not sure if there’s another way to do it, but you can insert a hyphen by using the html code for it:
That will result in a – being displayed. I went ahead and added yours at the end. For what it’s worth, if I were looking for your name in an alphabetical list, I would have looked under the P’s without thinking about it because I would have forgotten about the hyphen. I think of you as “pilgrim”, not “hyphen-pilgrim-hyphen”. :)
Although in reality, I’d probably just hit Ctrl+F and search for Pilgrim rather than clicking/scrolling, so I’d find you quickly in any case.
>96 humouress:, >97 YouKneeK: Thank you both very much for your help.
Actually I have no strong preference for the location, but after internally debating whether -pi precedes other ps, follows them, or appears in the middle, I came to the conclusion that following ISO convention was the least contentious solution.

*chortles* From what I have seen of LT, you are very probably right.
It is refreshing to find the Green Dragon such an oasis of civility and common sense.
(And PGGBs, of course)

I think that was one of the primary purposes of the Green Dragon; we were trying to get away from the trolling and aggression found elsewhere. "A civil conversation and a nice pint of whatever your having" would, to my mind, describe the GD objective.
I've found the piffles to be mostly even rather than odd. Of course, there is the occasional green one that's been outside too long.
