I just discovered a vintage book, Shoon, (which is definitely coming up wrong in the touchstones) by Eunice Young Smith. Shoon is about a pony of the moors, but Smith also wrote a series of books about a girl named Jennifer. I'd never heard of this author before, but a few LTers have some of the Jennifer books, e.g. The Jennifer Wish, and others.
