Collier Spymasters Series

Does anyone remember this? I've never heard of it until I chanced upon someone mentioning one of the titles reprinted in this series (The sixth directorate by Joseph Hone, which sounds fascinating).

I used to think everything could be found through Google, but I can't seem to find a complete list of these titles. The closest I have so far is Amazon.Com's search page, which gives 12 titles.

(Some titles have repeated listings, and Adventures with Hardy Bulbs is included...that one I doubt is spy fiction!)

Here's an example of a cover:

I have one from the serie which lists a dozen in the series in the front, but not Mask of Memory or The Sixth Directorate so it is not complete. Have you checked for a MacMillan/Collier site?

I have But We Didn't Get the Fox by Richard Llewellyn. Others from the series listed inside are:

The Faustian Pact by Antony Beevor
For Reasons of State by Antony Beevor
The Whistle Blower by John Hale
The Third Truth by Michael Hastings
The Oxford Gambit by Joseph Hone
The Private Sector by Joseph Hone
The Valley of the Fox by Joseph Hone
The Ninth Man by John Lee
The End of the Rug by Richard Llewellyn
The Cooler by George Markstein
Exchange of Clowns by Theodore Wilden

Thanks, folks. These titles seem really interesting, especially because of my own lack of exposure to spy fiction beyond the "big names." I must confess that virtually all of those authors names are unfamiliar to me.

I am reading The Private Sector by Joseph Hone from this series now.

Would any of you have read these books kindly post a short description of the plots of those you have read? I found a very few plots on Amazon, so your input here - and/or on Amazon - would be most welcome.

Amazon list 2 more titles as Colliers SpyMasters :
Mask of Memory by Victor Canning
Shadow Spy by Nicholas Luard

Also, I have been unable to find how the books were chosen for the series. Simply because they were all originally authors published by Colliers? Or for the books' content and quality?

Thank you.

I, too, am interested in this series, and in how its books were chosen. All I have been able to find out is that the "consulting editor" for the series is listed as Saul Katz, founder and proprietor of the 999 Bookshop, located on Madison Avenue on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Katz died at the age of 84 in December 2016, and his obit mentions only that he "had a special fondness for well-written spy novels." I've been looking for a complete series list, and the one supplied in post #3 above is much appreciated.
