Is it possible no one here has this book? I received it as a gift, started reading very slowly, mostly jumping around, and somehow I got hooked.
The structure and focus by century means that major issues can get discussed in numerous separate sections. which I first found disconcerting, but then began to handwrite summaries of the separate pieces, which has also helped me read and understand the new Catholic Catechism. In both cases I found myself enthusiastically moving from one index reference to the next, comparing one to another, in the McSorley book it was sometimes akin to progressing through time.
I pray someone will discuss this and/or other histories. I have about a dozen and I hope to post these sooner rather than later. This one is Fr Joseph McSorley, An Outline History of the Church. Off the top of my head I also have Eusebius, Epic, Josephus (Jewish War), Madden's Crusades, Bokenkotter, Nevins' American Catholic Heritage, more...

Outline History of the Church

Yes, 21 other members own it, but you seem to have gotten a bad Amazon entry. I've combined your copy with the main work. I've checked and Amazon seems to have fixed it, so now you could edit your author (and perhaps title) to match.

A hint: Using touchstones doesn't just help others find the book you are talking about. It also often points out works that need to be combined. Square brackets around the title are your friends.

I'm very grateful for your comments, although struggling to understand. I think my todo list is:
1-review Amazon/my book title and edit. I was given a 9th edition (1954), which probably contributed to the discrepancy. I'm not sure if I could make an adjustment, or if its warranted, but I will look at this further.
2-I haven't yet found a description or instruction for touchstones-I'll look harder.
3-square brackets around title???? I better pray about this.

The directions for touchstones are to the right of where you type a message.

I'll try to be more clear. http://www.librarything.com/work/2786463/book/136534502 If you compare your title and author with the work title and author you will see that yours has errors.

Bless you, I'm on my way there now.

A bit more help, please. At the link above, the author's name is misspelled. (SB McSorley, not McSorely) I can't think where I might have entered the author's name, but no matter, I'd just like to correct it on the book summary page. Can an incorrect page be eliminated, or eliminated? Can you explain how please? Or just fix it? Many thanks.

You edit it. Only you can do it. On the book page use the link to edit book. Make sure you also edit the summary.

I've done the edit, but would be very grateful for further comment:
1-brackets around title? I don't see them. Where do they appear? What do they mean? Is there a procedure instruction I should look for?
2-If I can't find a title in the lists provided, and I've checked spelling, and looked for the author, is there a way to enter the book anyway? Am I overlooking a procedure on this?
3-I have the 54 Volume Great Books of Western Civ by Ency Britt. Can I enter these as a group, or must it be individually?
I'm very grateful for your help and very sorry to be a burden.

1) Try putting brackets around a title in talk. Like I did in >2 MarthaJeanne: above. Where at first touchstones are described, you will then see the book that will be linked to and a link to others so you can correct it if the wrong title comes up. I am reading Time and Again now, which was the second book in the list.

2) You can always enter a book manually. The link is at the bottom left of the add books page. I have entered over 10% of my catalogue this way, as there wasn't a good source for Austrian books until very recently.

3) It's up to you. https://www.librarything.com/publisherseries/Great+Books+of+the+Western+World People have done it both ways. Personally, I would think the advantages of having the individual books catalogued would be worth the extra work, but do what you feel comfortable with.
