Ive read 2 books so far
Call The Midwife my own
A young nurses accounts of what it was like working in the East End of London in the 1950's. An enjoyable eye-opening read. I loved reading the accounts of how things were and it makes you appreciate how well things are now and we really have nothing to complain about. The conditions in which these families were living were actually awful but they had to make do and got on with it. The birth rate was absolutely huge as well with women having up to 25 babies - my goodness! Thank goodness for contraception. Also the fact that babies are living when being born prematurely and the maternal death rate has decreased dramatically. Reading of how things were for the nurses/midwives was very interesting. They had a huge workload and Jenny seemed very devoted.
Overall a great insight and its definitely worth reading.
The Yellow Wallpaper and other stories Caught May 2015
A good selection of short stories. I enjoyed them all to some extent but they weren't my favourite types of stories. Worth reading in any case.
Thanks very much mathgirl! Positivity is key!
Siddharta complete caught Oct 2016
This is quite low down on my TBR's but I wanted a quick read as I'm going on holiday soon and have a whole set of books to take with me but wanted to start them whilst I was away!
I liked this book. It was very easy to get into, and I lost myself within it. I enjoyed the rather simple language, what it was about, the characters and the feel of the book in general.
Now on to Woman walks into a bar caught Dec 2016
A good quick read. We meet Sam, single mother to 12 year old Beth. She been single for 9 years since she split from her abusive partner and her daughter has persuaded her it time to find love. Although reluctant initially she decided to go on a few dates.
In this small book, you get to understand Sam's life, her friends and family. She seems like a nice woman who without some encouragement would be single forever. A nice read.
Finished The Double clue and really enjoyed it. Not yet registered on BC though.
Then went on to The unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry which I really enjoyed. Registered by Vekiki and caught April 2015. This was released on my latest Holiday.
The Winter Ghosts registered by toothfairy25 and caught April 2014. I liked it a lot and am so glad this group made me get to it eventually. This was also released on my holiday.
Great progress so far!
I too really enjoyed The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.
Now onto One Day I actually received it as part of a bookring but had a copy at home already which I forgot to journal! Oops.
Now on to Man and Boy which was originally registered by eponine38 and caught May 2015.
Four Warned complete and I really enjoyed it. Another book part of the quick reads series and I couldn't put it down. Finished in in under an hour. Fabulous!
Now on to another one of my own Blackwater. I just picked it up in the library sale and I just want to read it now with a nice cup of tea!
Blackwater complete, an enjoyable little book that I liked a lot.
Next up was The Paratroopers Princess was up next, another one of mine which I enjoyed immensely.
Now on to A baby at the beach café yet another one of mine! Oops!
Next is Gather together in my name originally registered by Hayes13 and caught August 2014
Thanks Soffitta, it is yes! I'm hoping to move house soon, so trying to prioritise ABC books to get them moving and not lost in my move and also my Hardcover books as they take up sooo much space!
Gather together in my name complete. The second of Maya Angelou's autobiography. It was a wonderful, wonderful book which I enjoyed very much. http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/10521346
Now on to one of my own again Private. I love James Patterson, even though most, if not all of his books are co written now and they aren't as good as the original books. The short chapters really work for me so I am looking forward to this one.
Just finished On the Rock by Andy McNab. One of mine. Another quick read of course. Complete in half an hour with an easy storyline. http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14455740
It's nice to have some quick and easy reads. I often turn to sci-fi novellas and short stories when I'm in the mood for a fast read.
Quick reads are great. I try to buy them all even though there are lots of them and I don't need anymore books!
Private Sydney by James Patterson started and completed. Fast -paced thriller but not my favourite. One of my own books.
The Life by Martina Cole finished. Registered by Plum-crazy caught November 2016.
I also bought a copy that I found so its one of mine too!
I've read a few since I last updated.
The girl on the train which I enjoyed but felt it a little slow to begin with. Would be interesting to see the film now.
Idiopathy by Sam Byers an interesting slightly humorous novel about 3 friends. They are complicated, annoying characters who you want to slap into reality.
The Understudy by David Nicholls
This was the perfect holiday read. The second book, I've read by Nicholls and it was enjoyable and very easy to read.
Hide and Seek by James Patterson. A good one from Patterson. This one is slightly older and its nice that it's just written by the author himself.
There are all mine! Reading my ABC book now but its taking a while.
I read I, Michael Bennett by James Patterson, a library book so no link. I'm currently reading the series, but lacked this one. I found it okay but somewhat unrealistic at times in ususal James Patterson fashion!
I just finished Sister which I thoroughly enjoyed. Registered by Yorkshire-lass and caught April 2015.
Just finished Hidden by James Patterson which I enjoyed. A library book so no link.
The rain before it falls, a book which I thoroughly enjoyed. the first I've read by this author but I have several of his books on my bookshelf! One of my own.
Unfortunately I bought several books from a library sale as they were only 10p each and I just couldn't resist. So I bought 10 books for £1. And being part of the birthday group, I received several new books! Oops. MT TBR is actually getting bigger. Not including the 11 books, I've got out from the library. Failing!
Just finished The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie Registered by thegoaliegirl and received from my birthday in May but read it to send on as a birthday gift!
>63 Nataliec7: Tess was one of the books that was required reading in high school and, unlike so much else on the curriculum, one I really liked. I reread it a few years ago when I joined an online group that was reading all of Hardy's fiction and I was surprised that I remembered so much of it. And I liked it again. Hardy is not a lighthearted writer but the one book of his that is quite optimistic is Far from the Madding Crowd.
>64 gypsysmom: Thanks for that recommendation. I did feel the need to take a break from Hardy after Tess! I'll aim for that one as my second choice!
Just completed Schuyler's Monster A Father's journey with his wordless daughter
Another birthday book caught this year. Originally registered by HI77.
>70 Nataliec7: Open Door sounds similar to the Rapid Reads series published by Tundra Books in Canada. I've read quite a few of those. They are mostly mysteries written by well-known writers.
>70 Nataliec7: >71 gypsysmom: For a few years, I'd volunteered with an adult-literacy organization. It was very rewarding and I'm always happy to see more support for adult readers.
I too have finished the first three books of the Mma Ramotswe series. I've got the next two on my shelves and hope to get to them soon.
>75 mathgirl40: I have all of the books of the Mma Ramotswe books. They were given to me one by one by a colleague and I have only just started reading them!! They are sweet little books, simply written and I will add them between more difficult to read books.
I just finished All the light we cannot see a bookring book which I enjoyed very much. http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14204808
If I include this book, that's my 24 ABC books complete! Yay me!
Just completed Fresh Apples registered by Tehuti and caught in 2015.
Also completed is Alert which is one of my own.
And next completed was Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas one of my own. Loved it!
