I'm still at 3.75. I'm not sure about this book. It's really not that exciting and I really can't believe that the publishers let it go to press when it's lost the adventure from the other books. The ending hopefully will be better but it doesn't feel like it.

I'm staying at 3. It's one of the most disjointed books I've read recently. I feel like Berry had 3-4 story ideas and threw them all but never committed to any of them.

On the plus side, it's not Crooked House or Sleepyhead.....
5Andrew-theQM
Or Gorky Park!

Though I felt we moved on in this section a lot more than previously, I don't feel like increasing my score from 3.25.

I'm back to 3. You are all so right about those books that were mentioned...especially Gorky Park.

>8 Carol420: We do have the occasional book that bombs but a very small minority thankfully, and others that are wonderful reading experiences.
I will stay with 3.33.

Glad I missed all 3 of those group reads!
I'm sticking with 3 stars but it may dip lower if the ending is a bust.

>10 bluebird_: You do occasionally get lucky...and for missing these you were extremely lucky.

I started one of them(sleepyhead or crooked house) but I quit after the first section. Funny, I don't recall which book or anything about the plot. I guess I blocked it from memory.

Still can't believe Gorky Park has got a rating of 4.04, but this book has got a rating of 3.88 (Goodreads Ratings).

>14 Andrew-theQM: We as a group gave The Charlemagne Pursuit an overall rating of 3. I don't have Brenda's final rating yet.

>15 Carol420: it's 3.25 - no reason to change it after the last section :)

I think the rating would at least be a 3 if Brenda rated 3.25. Her rating would have to be under 3 in order to get 2.61.

>18 EadieB: Sorry...you're right. The overall rating is 3.04. Still low for a Steve Berry book.

OMG, I had to share. I just noticed that, in fact, I did read The Crooked House. According to my librarything shelf, I rated it 2.5 stars. I must have finished it! I must have blocked it from memory--I thought I didn't read it at all. I read the blurb about the book and I'm still hard pressed to recall any details.
Just thought I'd correct my prior statement that I'd skipped it.

>22 bluebird_: Lol! Isn't it interesting the impact some books DON'T have on us! Others you could almost quote verbatim!

I can remember the whole book. I rated it a 3. It really wasn't that bad. I think I have more tolerance for bad books than you guys.
It was about Paul who was playing games with the Esme Grace's head and took her back to her home town for Morgan Carter's wedding. She had moved away and changed her name. She didn't want to go home because she lived in the crooked house when she was a teenager and she was upstairs when a car pulled up outside and someone came in the house and killed her family.
Her boyfriend Paul killed the family. 13 years earlier when the family died he was Morgan Carter's boyfriend, and killed them to protect Morgan's family from the drama of Mr Carter and Mrs Graces affair becoming more public if he had to submit to a paternity test for the twins. Well that and he's a bit of a psycho.

>24 EadieB: I like a book that moves the action on. Most of the books I haven't enjoyed lose the flow in the story, or are disjointed or don't keep the tension up. Too much description can spoil my enjoyment or constantly jumping between different groups. If I start yawning when reading a book it is a bad sign as is looking for an excuse not to read the book!
