An argument of authors?
A bar-load of authors?
A pen of authors?

I've seen several sites that claim that the 1486 Book of St Albans uses the term "a worship of writers", but I've been unable to verify that.

Fun -
I immediately thought library - but then read the thread. My favourites are:
Scribble, anthology, smithy, especially the latter.

>3 reading_fox:

I thought of scribble after reading the thread title, and flushed with pride, opened the thread to post my superior idea. Only to find it was not mine, after all.

I like argument, as well, but they're all good so far.

All the obvious ones are there in the other thread, plus "Hemaworstje", which is very fitting, but will be unintelligible to anyone who hasn't lived in the Netherlands.

I like "a rabbit-hutch of authors" - because if they aren't drinking or nibbling salads, they'll be taking steps to increase the population...

Here I thought I was opening a joke thread...

>6 gilroy:

Q: What do you call a collection of authors?
A: Call 'em!? Idiot, you don't call 'em, they'll never stop talking -- just run away!

That's interesting, I've built up the opposite cliché. The writer is the quiet one in the corner, as per Ernest Hemingway's advice. Although I'm pretty sure he didn't live up to his own suggestion.

>7 elenchus: Actually, most of the authors I know (myself included) do pretty much anything to avoid talking on the phone...we're mostly introverts.

I like "an anthology of authors."

I'm kind of partial to "Gaggle" (A disorderly or nosy group) This kind of goes with gilroy's joke.

I was also amused by an "argument of authors". I've seen a few of those. :)

But I manage somehow to resemble both >9 Marissa_Doyle: and >7 elenchus:. I abhor phones, and I'm not much for smalltalk, but once I get started talking about my stories it is really difficult to get me to shut up. ::rueful::

A folio of authors?

How about a name for a group of librarians? If there already is one, please fill me in!

p.s. I thought of bibliophiles, but that doesn't quite cover it. Loving books is just a partial description!

I like "well", placing its origin back in the quill age.
"Volume" seems like an acceptable option, as does the more common "chapter".

Only a catalogue will do!

I still like "Gaggle", but most publishers refer to "Stable" of authors.

>23 GaryBabb:, kind of demeaning, isn't it? Our value on Earth is whether we'll be a financial winner on the track, and be prepared to be put out to pasture if you can't perform.

#25 Yes, demeaning, but it is what it is and kind of descriptive of the reality.

>25 Cecrow: That's not your value on Earth, it's your value as a business asset of a publishing company/agency.

Your value on earth covers a lot more stuff. :)

A fret of authors.
