Historic war references, pregnancy, marriage to other man, France

I may have posted this before but I cannot find it.
I borrowed this book from my library many years ago and it was old when I borrowed it; early 2000's borrowed, 80's written I would guess. I tried to find it in my borrowing history but new systems deleted that info.

The heroine meets and falls for one of the heroes. She sleep with him and falls pregnant. Before they can marry he is called away to fight in a war.
She tries to hide the pregnancy but her maid, I think, convinces her to marry a man who is interested him her. She does and convinces him the child is born early and therefore his baby.
She isn't overly romantic with him because she is still in love with the first man and begrudgingly has sex with him.
She meets the first man again and they have sex.
She has another baby, not sure who the father is.
Jump forward in time and the family is in France. She runs into the first man again and again they sleep together. I think she planned on leaving her husband for him.
Ultimately I think she chooses to stay with her husband and later hears the first man has been killed. Although that might have happened earlier and decides her marriage to the second man)
One of these men is named Daniel I think.

Her maid or nanny or housekeeper helped her conceal her first pregnancy from both her father and her husband
