Since there's a ravelry group for LTers, I thought I'd start an LT group for ravelers! Let us know your ravelry persona... my ravelry projects: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/pdxwoman Here's me: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/eyesore I originally signed up for ravelry just to test it out for my mom, who's been crocheting for 40-some years and wanted a way to organize all her crochet stuff, but she isn't very web savvy. After checking the site out for a few days, I kept the account for myself and learned how to crochet! (Mom does have her own account now. ;)) Message edited by its author, Dec 17, 2007, 3:56pm. Hello, I am also a Ravelry member. I do not know what I love more, books or crocheting/knitting? I do have some crocheting books, but was unable to put them on my empty shelves in Ravelry. Right now I am reading a book by P.D. James: Death in Holy Orders and am going to knit wrist-warmers for our daughter. I also have to finish a knitted Snowman and just finished a crocheted baby bunny. Greetings! Dorith Dec 18, 2007, 2:16pm (top)Message 4: HelloAnnieHi- I'm Blissfulwith on Ravelry, too. I have been knitting for a year and have plans to learn to crochet at some point. I just finished reading The Absolutely True Story of a Part Time Indian and highly recommend it! Dec 18, 2007, 2:57pm (top)Message 5: AnnaClaireI'm another user with the same name here and there: http://www.ravelry.com/people/AnnaClaire Hi - I'm akknits on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/people/akknits I've only been knitting for a few years so knitting books make up a fairly small percentage of my library but I keep adding more and more. I have the same name here as on Ravelry. If only I could read nad knit at the same time - I'm just not that talented. I just picked up Run by Ann Patchett and Into the Wild by jon krakauer from the library, and am knitting a baby sweater for a friend due in January. I didn't even think about putting my knitting books here. Dec 20, 2007, 11:09pm (top)Message 8: SilvernfireHaving been on Ravelry for all of 24 hours, I promptly rushed back here to see if there was an LT group about it, and lo, there was. I'm Silvernfire there and here (address at end of post because it's not formatting properly--hmph). I played with Ravelry's book section first, of course. Darn it, LT has spoiled me for what I expect of an online catalog! I've been knitting and crocheting since childhood. I've slowed down in the past few months due to throwing my energies into grad school and work, but I'm hoping to rev up again next year once we're out of the holidays. After all, if I don't finish a sweater soon, I will freeze to death in my refriger...uh, office. http://www.ravelry.com/people/Silvernfir... Message edited by its author, Dec 20, 2007, 11:12pm. Dec 20, 2007, 11:14pm (top)Message 9: Silvernfire#7: Yes, that reading and knitting skill would be useful. I have many subtitled DVDs I'd enjoy knitting during, except that reading subtitles and knitting does not work for me. Dec 21, 2007, 12:03am (top)Message 10: pdxwomanI've been watching lots of dvds while crocheting for Christmas. Today I broke down and put several books on CD on reserve at my local library... Dec 21, 2007, 9:03am (top)Message 11: SuncatI'm Suncat at Ravelry too. http://www.ravelry.com/people/Suncat I've been knitting for over 10 years now, but don't really do anything with crochet. I'm concentrating on an ivory pullover sweater for myself at the moment. I'm between books right now, but next will likely be "Collapse" by Jared Diamond or "Dancing with Werewolves" by Carole Nelson Douglas. We'll see which falls into my hands first. Jan 3, 2008, 3:44pm (top)Message 12: Spudd First MessageI'm Spudd on Ravelry too. I don't know why, but I haven't put my knitting books into LT - I should totally do that! Jan 6, 2008, 2:15pm (top)Message 13: biba0219 First MessageI'm bridget on Ravelry. I know I signed up for LT a while ago, but I totally forgot my user name and I can't find any emails, so I'm starting over. Now I'm going to go join the LT group on Ravelry. I just ordered the scanner so I can add all my books! Jan 9, 2008, 11:43pm (top)Message 14: sirenjo First MessageI am sirenjo on ravelry. adding books here and projects there. Jan 23, 2008, 1:17am (top)Message 15: DianeNeedlework First MessageHi, I am DianeWeaves on Ravelry. I have a collection of books and patterns going back to World War II, which is when I started knitting. Knitting, crochet, needlepoint, weaving, tons of stuff. Trying to figure out this whole thing and put it together. Fortunately my branch library is full of enthusiastic Ravelry and LT users, so we should figure this out soon. Jan 23, 2008, 2:01am (top)Message 16: pdxwomanDiane: I love the vintage patterns! I made the cutest little toddler "swim suit", which is really a little halter top and shorts, from a 1940s pattern. I need to post it on ravelry, but I have to get pictures from my cousin first (it was for her daughter). Glad to see you here (and there!). Feb 9, 2008, 12:58pm (top)Message 17: Lisa_and_Robb First MessageHi folks! I'm lisascenic over at Ravelry. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/lisascen... I keep a blog, which is about a number of things, very occasionally knitting http://howsrobb.blogspot.com/ I've been reading 1920's and 1930's English novels lately -- PG Wodehouse and Dorothy L. Sayers. Nice to "meet" y'all! Lisa Feb 11, 2008, 12:22am (top)Message 18: pdxwomanWelcome, Lisa! I *love* PG Wodehouse -- he's on my list of favorite authors... Feb 11, 2008, 11:07am (top)Message 19: HouseholdOperaHi all! I'm HouseholdOpera at Ravelry as well as here. Lisa, did you see the P.G. Wodehouse group at Ravelry? Wodehousian Fibre Artists: http://www.ravelry.com/groups/wodehousia... Feb 13, 2008, 9:32pm (top)Message 20: muninnHi everyone! I'm keere on Ravelry. Not a lot of knitting books yet, as I'm a poor student right now... Feb 14, 2008, 11:13am (top)Message 21: Suncat>15 It's been a long time since my mother cared to knit. So when I was helping her clean her house and ran across some knitting booklets from the 1940s and 1950s she was happy to let me take them. I was ecstatic to get my hands on them! I've found that some of these vintage pattern booklets are getting registered in the Ravelry library, but none of mine have been yet. I think it depends on whether they can find the right supporting material, like cover photos. Feb 17, 2008, 6:05pm (top)Message 22: happyanddandy1Hi - I'm happyanddandy at Ravelry - long lifelong knitter and reader trying not to spend all my time on puter!! Good job I don't blog.... yet Feb 20, 2008, 1:48pm (top)Message 23: LeslielI'm MomLes on Ravelry. Love it. I work part-time at a LYS and have Ravelry up on the computer all day so I can show people what they can do with an interesting yarn, or get details like gauge, length in a skein, or recommended needles when the label doesn't have the info (like Misti yarns). Feb 21, 2008, 9:34pm (top)Message 24: onyx95I am onyx95 on Ravelry also. I really think I am going to enjoy this site, I just got my invite so I haven't gotten to explore the whole site yet. Apr 7, 2008, 1:28pm (top)Message 25: HelenoelI'm geoknitter on Ravelry - really have not done much over there- sporadically enter stuff on LT- lately work, kid and other demands keep the knitting/spinning/weaving activity very limited- At least I can look at the books and think about new projects. Too much mandatory computer time with work and volunteer stuff to even think about blogging. Apr 7, 2008, 4:48pm (top)Message 26: ChelidonaI just got on Ravelry and this and LT are things I can get into I can now (sort of relate to the myspace phemomen). I am Chelidona on both sites. But I am still just a beginner with this stuff. After reading Sephanie Pearl-Mcphee's cast off I know I need more social contacts knitting. Thanks. Apr 15, 2008, 2:56pm (top)Message 27: dlwc58Hi I'm dlwc58 on Ravelry, same as here. I'm new to Ravelry, and even more new here (this is my first post!) I just love Ravelry. I've been involved in a swap already, found some fun patterns to start using up some stash yarn, met some great people...Even found a pug group there (for those that don't have pugs, I might explain that if you have pugs in your house, all your yarn will contain "special" fibres - pug fur...they shed like mad. It's always good, when involved in a swap, to trade with another pug owner...they UNDERSTAND the fawn coloured fibres sticking out of the project they receive). I found LT through bookmooch.com, which is fast becoming another addition. My one "complaint" of that site would be there are almost no knitting/crochet related books to mooch! Oh well, the more it grows, right? Anyhow, that's enough from me for now. I'm glad to have found this place! May 24, 2008, 8:43am (top)Message 28: mldgHi, I'm marilyn1423 on ravelry. I found LT from reading my favorite author's blog, Susan Wittig Albert (she's an LT author), and I found out about Ravelry from LT. May 29, 2008, 5:28pm (top)Message 29: bjtiltI found LT when trying to post books to my ravelry library. My next big project will be a felted purse - or tso I'm trying to get myself nerved up to make socks...Just starting is the toughest part. Knitting that first sock is like facing an icy-cold swimmin' hole... Message edited by its author, Jul 17, 2008, 1:47am. Jul 16, 2008, 2:34pm (top)Message 31: LeesyLouOh, we'll happily walk you through sock knitting, tee hee. It's pretty addictive. I knit them like crazy and I'm not even a sock wearer. Leesy, who is just getting ramped up on Rav even though she's been a member like forever Jul 25, 2008, 9:54am (top)Message 32: katttgHello from the not-so-wild Midwest! I'm so excited to see a Ravelry community here -- I just found LibraryThing and have been on Ravelry for a while now! I adore reading ya fantasy (among other things), and one of my favorite things to do in the evenings is curl up with my socks and a good book. I'm working on some stockings that are part of a contest that my yarn shop is having, as well as a sweater that I have been working on for a while now but have no motivation to finish while it's so bloody hot outside! Horray! Jul 25, 2008, 9:57am (top)Message 33: katttgOh, I'm katttg on Ravelry as well. Aug 11, 2008, 9:34am (top)Message 34: fasciknittingHey everyone! I'm fasciknitting on Ravelry as well as here. I learned about LT from ravelry and love both sites dearly :) I've been knitting for about 4 years and reading for about 20 (haha), and really have a hard time figuring out how to engage in both equally. It seems like I can't find a balance - but right now I'm doing all right, I suppose. mldg: I'm reading Thyme of Death by Susan Wittig Albert right now! It's pretty cool, because right now I live in Austin (which is around where Albert's book is set). I say "right now" because I'm moving to New Hampshire in just a couple of weeks. I'm really enjoying the book, though! Aug 31, 2008, 4:15pm (top)Message 35: mldgHi, fasciknitting. One of the fascinating things about Thyme of Death and the other China Bayles mysteries is the small town Texas setting. Albert really makes it come alive. I think the books get better as they progress in the series, too. Bloodroot is my favorite. Oh, lucky you! You get to be in New England in autumn, beautiful fall foliage, crisp autumn leaves crunching underfoot on a cool sunny day. I'm so envious. Aug 31, 2008, 10:29pm (top)Message 36: fasciknittingI agree with you about the small town setting - and I also enjoyed the characters that Albert created. Plus, I love herb gardens, so I ate all of that stuff up. I plan on reading the rest in the series! And about being in New England: yes! I have been so excited about a New England autumn... we actually just moved in this past Wednesday so I'm definitely settling in and getting ready for the leaves changing and the snow a-falling this winter. I'm stocking up my rav queue to get ready for it! Sep 7, 2008, 4:41pm (top)Message 37: bjtiltHello, My name is Beverly and I am in Ravelry too. I learned about LT when trying to add pattern books to my Rav library. My Ravelry projects are at: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/bjtilt Message edited by its author, Sep 7, 2008, 4:42pm. Sep 8, 2008, 5:23pm (top)Message 38: fasciknittingHi Beverly! I see that you like making socks... so do I :) Do you make all of your socks with two circs? I've always used dpns, but I hear the circ method is faster. I also see that you're from Maine. We're neighbors! I am brand new to New Hampshire. Maine is so beautiful though... my boyfriend and I were actually planning on moving to Maine and not NH, but it seemed harder to find jobs and places to live in Maine. Maybe one day we'll retire up there :) Sep 27, 2008, 6:42am (top)Message 39: bjtiltHello fasciknitting! Welcome to the neighborhood :) As much as I have always loved Maine, you were probably right to choose NH because the job market and housing here are major issues. As for socks, I knit sock on 2 circs, on dpns or using magic loop on one 47 inch circ. All 3 methods have a place and I am glad I learned them all. If I had to choose a favorite it would be magic loop method of 2 socks at the same time. Have a great day! Bev Mar 9, 2009, 1:29am (top)Message 40: staffordcastleHi, folks I just discovered this group, after being a member of the LT group on Ravelry for a while. I'm staffordcastle over there too. I just posted pics of my latest project! It's been rather a disappointment that I can't get all my books on to the shelf at Ravelry - LT has totally spoiled me! I check every now and then, and can get a few more each time, but it's SO SLOOOW ... Message edited by its author, Mar 9, 2009, 1:31am. Mar 15, 2009, 9:30am (top)Message 41: mldgHi staffordcastle, There is a way to get your librarything books to ravelry, but I haven't figured it out yet. I'm confused because it seems like it will transfer my whole catalog, and I don't want that, only my needlework books. Mar 15, 2009, 2:20pm (top)Message 42: staffordcastleIf it involves exporting my LT library to a spreadsheet, I suppose you would have to edit the spreadsheet in Excel afterwards, to cull out the non-needlework stuff (a lot, I have over 3,000 books). One of these days ... Mar 15, 2009, 2:40pm (top)Message 43: SuncatThe LT export does include your tags. Once in the spreadsheet, it was easy to use the tags to isolate the books I wanted to put into Ravelry. Mar 15, 2009, 2:49pm (top)Message 44: staffordcastleYeah, I know. Especially since I tag all needlework books with the tag CRAFT, in addition to a more specific tag like Knitting or Crochet. Mar 15, 2009, 3:52pm (top)Message 45: mknit200Hi Folks, Just discovered that there was a Ravelry group here. I was updating my profile where you can list other sites and Ravelry was there so I checked for a group, and voila, here you are. Now back to R to sign up in the LT group there! I'm TerriH on Rav. Apr 1, 2009, 2:48pm (top)Message 46: chanaleHi,
I'm pricejc03 on Ravelry too. I've been knitting for about 5 years now and going through huge piles of books for much longer than that. I'm a bit distracted when it comes to my knitting and therefore always have at least 3 or 4 projects on the needles at once. Currently, I've got a hat, a shrug, a tank top, and a pair of socks.
