Hej. Sorry to post in English. I'll knock the rust of my Swedish and post på svenska next time. I'm an American, but my grandfather was born and grew up in Boden, came to the U.S. in the early 1900s, and became a gold miner, off all things. I taught at Uppsala University in 1994. Hej då, tak så mycket, och ha det bra. Who are your favorite Swedish writers? Vi ses.

If you like detective/crime stories maybe: Stieg Larsson or Karin Alvtegen or Camilla Läckberg or Henning Mankell or Håkan Nesser
Horror: John Ajvide Lindqvist

Hej, och tak så mycket. I've read Henning Mankell in translation and love his work, but now I'll need to try Stieg Larsson and Karin Alvtegen. I'll investigate Enquist, too. I've read some Sven Delblanc på svenska, and I like Robert Bly's translations of contemporary Swedish poetry. Tak igen, och Hälsningar. Hans

Hej!
I don't know if Willy Kyrklunds novels are available in english translation. I certainly hope so because his novels are wonders of unsurpassed beauty.
Anders Paulrud, who sadly passed away just a few days ago, was another writer with the rare ability to make the swedish language more beautiful than it really is.
Sara Lidman and Kerstin Ekman are also to be recommended.

Hej,
Thanks so much for the recommendations. I've read a bit of Ekman, but I don't know the others' work, so this is a big help.

Hi, you forgot to mention Per Sjowall and Wahlo and Astrid Lindgren. Her books I read mostly when I was living in Norway as a child. Nowadays I read of course Henning Mankell. At the moment you can watch on television in the Netherlands the serie about his books. I'm also reading a lot of books of other Scandinavian crime authors. I've started a group about them so if you are interested please join the group. I'm curious to know why so many good crime authors are from Iceland and Sweden.
