I've just come across an author in my collection who is listed as having died in June 1962 http://www.librarything.com/author/anghelidespeter. I don't think he's dead - and he certainly didn't die then - I think that would be more likely to be his date of birth, although I don't know that for sure. Given that he writes novels to tie in with TV shows like Blake's 7, Torchwood and Doctor Who - these weren't shown until after that date. I googled him and found a blog which was last updated in January of this year.

Would it be alright for me to edit the date of death and delete it or have two authors become somehow combined and by changing the date I'll be making someone else's data incorrect?

I'm not familiar enough with those shows to know whether everything listed on that author page is by the same person. If they are, go ahead and edit the CK. If not, you can split the page, and edit the CK to put the correct information on each author's CK.

>2 lilithcat: I'm not familiar with them either although clicking on them they do all seem to go to either Torchwood or Doctor Who titles (I'm only familiar with his Blake's 7 work).

I shouldn't have let myself get sucked down this wormhole as I've now found another with the same problem (that will teach me to look at how many living/dead authors are in my collection.

http://www.librarything.com/author/elliottcarl-1

The Carl Elliott this refers to is listed as dying in 1999 and also says where he is buried, but having books published later than that about medicine, mental health and bioethics (which I would think would need to be fairly current at the point of publishing), having again googled him and found the author of the book that is in my collection, he appeared at Havard in 2016.

Again I don't know that he's still alive, but he does appear to have been alive later than shown - I also don't know for sure all the books are by the same person but they do seem to be on similar subjects (they also don't also show a date of publishing in their CK). Does anyone know any more on the subject?

>4 Peace2:

If you look at the disambiguation page for Carl Elliott, it's apparent that that CK is on the wrong sub-page.

>5 lilithcat: So if I delete it on that page will that change something it shouldn't as well? I don't want to make matters worse.

The best thing to do is to copy/paste the info to the correct sub-page and then delete it.

Not necessarily in this case, but Noah Webster's name is still used to sell dictionaries. Especially in academic fields, a good book can be brushed up for the 25th edition whether or not the author is dead.
