Below is the current list of members that have identified a ROOT goal for 2018 and how many books they read by the end of July.
Any members who have yet to record a ROOT, have been removed to a separate list until they start. The ticker totals have been adjusted accordingly.
The percentage is calculated and a star awarded for those on target to reach their goals. More stars for farther toward their goal.
If anyone's number is incorrect, please let me know and I will make the necessary adjustments.
So go out there and dig those ROOTs.

Well, happily I finished 2 ROOTs today, my first two for August, so that means I've reached my goal of 48! I'll donate any extras to the group total for the rest of the year, and maybe rethink my goal for next year.
I added them to all tickers including the group one.

Edna St Vincent Millay, Conversation at Midnight. A closet drama in verse dealing with interwar intellectual and political issues. While it might have been of interest in its own day, it doesn't hold up well.

Just finished Silent in the Sanctuary for ColourCAT August. Tickers updated. This is the second in a series about Lady Julia and her smouldering sidekick Brisbane, as they attempt to unravel another mystery. I read several of the others in the series, and now am going back to the beginning. This one took place at Yuletide in the family home (a decaying abbey), with several mysteries and a murder to solve. 5 stars

Finally have found time to update my tickers. I did actually complete 36/48 last month and have finished another this week, The Surrendered by Chang-Rae Lee and #37. The Moment by Douglas Kennedy. They are both lengthy reads which slowed me down, but very good.

Number 3 for August: Older But Wilder which is number three in the series Notes from the Pasture, about senior citizens at a retirement community. This one was not as funny as the first two, and some of it read like a series of jokes. The author stated that the book was compiled from notes and vignettes sent to her by readers of her first two books, as well as her own experiences. I thought it ended rather abruptly. Two more in the series to go! 4.5 stars

Congratulations to everyone who has met their goal!
I know, I'm behind, at 42% currently, but I am determined to concentrate on getting my average up closer to where it needs to be.
July was vacation month, we were out of town for almost two weeks, and I just didn't read like I usually do, so my ROOT total suffered. I just removed three ROOTs this week (off the shelves, books unread for over a year) and have more waiting to be read.

Number 4 for August: Too Many Cooks by Rex Stout, a mystery set in the 1930's featuring the eccentric Nero Wolfe and his sidekick Archie Goodwin. I had a hard time keeping the names of the chefs all straight. Look past the racial comments to enjoy the eccentricities of the detective himself, reading the book in its context and the time in which it was written. 4 stars. Tickers updated.

I was beginning to think that I wasn’t going to get any of my ROOTS done for this month and then I did. I finished Sicilian Odyssey by Francine Prose. This is my 13th book in the National Geographic DIrections series that has a total of 24 titles in it. All of them are long essays about different places or regions of the world, written by well known authors, and they are usually very interesting. This particular title was not the best in the series, but it was good enough that I finished it and ticked another one off of that list.
56benitastrnad
The day after I finished the travel book on Sicily I finished listening to the YA dystopian novel Warcross by Marie Lu. I have had this book on my shelves since last fall and decided that I needed to get it off ASAP, so I went to the public library and got the recorded versions and listened to it while I did my various commutes. Now that book can go to another happy home or somebody else to read.
57LadyoftheLodge
Just finished Death of a Witch a Hamish Macbeth mystery. He solves four murders in this book, in his usual slow and methodical manner. Hamish also contends with several ladies vying for his affection. The last few chapters after solving the murder are hilarious vignettes of their own, well worth the read. 4.5 stars

I loved the Ancillary Justice series. I haven't gotten around to Provenance yet, but have plans to get there soon. It is connected to the Ancillary series, but doesn't have the same characters in it. Leckie writes some great Sci/Fi.

I have finished the short story suspense horror collection ZOO1 and also have read a few manga this week.
