On the Folio Society's website, Patrick O'Brian's HMS Surprise on 25 September 2018 is showing 21 copies left.
Update on 8 December 2018 - 9 copies remain.
- Murder on the Orient Express currently showing 38 copies left
- Charlotte's Web says out of stock, but it is still available as the E.B. White set with Stuart Little
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz currently showing 44 copies left
- Midnight Folk 47 copies left
- Greenwitch by Susan Cooper 18 copies left
- The Pink Fairy Book 18 copies left
I just grabbed a Greenwitch -- somehow I had the other four but not that one.
>3 gmacaree: Lucky you. I bought Greenwitch and Over Sea, Under Stone in the last new year sale, but completing the set seems not feasible due to the egregious prices for the other three books on the secondary market.
Not exactly an ordinary edition but only 2 copies remain for Paradise Lost.
>4 c_schelle: The secondary market may yet yield to you, my other four were packaged on on eBay for (if I remember right) less then $100 not so long ago.
Thanks for the tip about the Pink Fairy Book. I finally splurged and got it, when there were 11 left!
I got "The Dark is Rising" in my favourite secondhand bookshop for £40. That was after one went for a mere £15 on Ebay!
I think that was about September last year or year before. So keep looking :-)
Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian is shown as 'Out of Stock', although I assume this means 'Sold out'.
Could be either way - they've reprinted several times already.
The Folio Society tends to move in mysterious ways … although I am not sure why this is so!
Got an email regarding low stock items. There are about twenty-five titles. I ended up grabbing Crime and Punishment after skipping out on it during one of the sales last year.
>13 just_visiting: That’s been a silent seller. Unfortunately it seems it will pass my library sans reprint.
Would recommend the Malay Archipelago to anyone on the fence. It's beautifully done.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to buy that as soon as my in-progress order gets delivered. It's already overdue...
I just saw that there are only 2 copies left of At the Crossing-Places by Kevin Crossley- Holland.
Hello All. New here, but, as a long time Folio Fan- digging all of the cool info and discussion! Can someone please enlighten me as to how one can see how many copies are left of a particular book in stock? I can't seem to find that number. I am in America, viewing the US site...
Welcome to FSD and what will be a growing selection of superb books.
Low stock numbers only appear beside some books, mainly LImited Editions, usually beside the price on the book’s information page (see Queen Mary Atlas as an example).
It is very variable as to wether a number ever appears. Some books sell out without warning, others have a number when as many as 300 still remain.
If you look under the "Gifts" heading there is a "Last Chance to Buy" option. Most of these books have counters, but not all, and it is not a complete list of low stock books, unfortunately. One not on the list (discussed in another thread) is The Floating Admiral.
I have sent FS feedback about making the low stock listings complete (and more useful) and encourage others to do likewise.
Just following up on your advice about the "last chance to buy" category, The Floating Admiral is listed with 52 copies left. I'm on the UK site so that might make a difference, though why that should be continues to remain a mystery to me.
Welcome to FSD. Say goodbye to your bank balance :)
>22 folio_books: I see it now too on the US site. They must have just added it. Their ways are a mystery to us all.
Ah. Thanks all! There's a few horror titles (regular editions) that have been on my radar for quite awhile (Exorcist, I am Legend), and would hate to have them disappear before I had a chance to nab them (that's already happened to a few others over the years). Yep, feeling more broke than ever already..
(hopefully) managed to order The Malay Archipelago. i say hopefully as ive been caught out before, ordering a book with a handful of copies left, only to be told by email (or sometimes not at all) that it had sold out!
my advice is to not hold out when the ticker hits 10 copies!
