Dear cherished friends, comrades, colleagues and fellow book lovers:

I wish you all a very pleasant and happy New Year 2019!

I’ve been a member since 2009 and next year will mark my ten years here on this delightful forum.

Sadly, I’ve been away from LT for quite some time - it’s been a place that I have missed quite a lot this year as well as insightful discussions from fellow learned friends that I have had the privilege to get to know (boldface, folio_books, scholasticus, drasvola, HuxleyTheCat, kdweber, Afrikansky1, Pellias, busywine, Conte_Mosca, overthemoon, Quicksilver66, wcarter, UK_History_Fan, jveezer, LesMiserables, and others - you know who you are).

I am also glad to see some new names in the discussions. Welcome to our group and although I have yet to catch up with the threads and posts, I hope you’ve all received a warm welcome and will bring enthusiasm and love for folio books (as well as for others).

In the spirit of the new year upcoming and the year passing - it would seem fitting (as with the God of January - Janus) that I would appreciate a request for someone, a helpful fellow whoever that might be to update me with five or ten summary points on what has transpired on our beloved Folio Society Devotees’ forum this year.

I think it would be great way to close this year and to look forward to another prosperous year filled with good books and wine.

Cordially,

ironjaw

Happy New Year :-)

As to your bigger question - what has been going on with Folio lately?

Hmm.

Well, I think we (mostly) still love the books.

We're not so keen on the management.

But the people working the phones are nice.

And we didn't seem to like China much.

And we definitely don't like the prices. Especially if we live outside the UK.

And we have no idea what Brexit will mean for the devotees.

In the meantime, drink and be merry :-)

Where have you been my friend?

Welcome back!

I've also been looking out for Osbaldistone from Texas, anyone seen him around?

New website (it's bad), new ROW prices (they're bad), new books (they're actually extremely nice), new shipping prices (they're bad, although not nearly as bad as three years ago), grumpy Devotees (they're mostly all right really).

Hello Faisel :) Great to see you here again1 You have most definitely been missed. There seems to have been something of a turnover as far as the regulars go and there's several people who now post infrequently or not at all, it seems. FSD is all the poorer for those missing in action.

Cat_of_Ulthar has kindly provided a pithy and accurate summary of the last year (or so) on FSD so now it's your turn to tell us what has kept you away for so long. I hope it's all good news.

Happy New Year to you, too, and I hope 2019 brings a more settled time for you and yours.

Well, Faisel, I can't improve on Cat's list (>2 Cat_of_Ulthar:) above, but I can say what's been missing from this forum for the last few months: your valuable and informative contributions and insights! So I hope this unfortunate state of affairs is soon to be remedied in 2019. Happy New Year!

Thank you for the update Cat!

Glen and Jonathan good to hear from you both. Yes, I’ve been a bit unwell after a short holiday in London after watching The Nutcracker. All those people coughing and sneezing in public. To be honest I am afraid that I am turning more towards Poirot and his aversion to the unclean. I need to carry a hanker-chief.

Thank you all for your best wishes.

You have been missed, Faisel. Do get well and come back to these threads. They seem to have become a bit gloomier lately, and that needs to be changed, but I have no brilliant ideas myself.

Or avoid London, which seems a good idea to me. Hope you're on the mend.

I'd go as far as to say "depressing". Sadly, no great ideas either. There are still people around who buck the trend and whose posts I usually enjoy but I miss quite a few who seem to have left us.

Thanks Glenn and Antonio. Hope you both are well.

And I hope you've now got over your "Londonitis".
