Okay, so I read this book in the 90s when I was a kid but I'm pretty sure it was an older title and not part of a series.

A group of girls want to buy horses for themselves and do a bunch of fundraisers (one has advertising that says "Go Dutch! Go Dutch! Go Dutch!") in order to get money to do so. One of them decides to tame a wild horse. During the course of the story, one of the girls also gets appendicitis.

I've tried a few Google searches but am striking out. Anyone have any ideas?

Silver Birch by Dorothy Lyons? Girls are forming a mounted Girl Scout troop. Some of the girls can afford horses, but main protagonist, Connie, cant. And tames w wild mare. While not technically a seires, there are sequels. The most common is called 'Golden Sovereign'. It was a scholastic paperback.

Glad I could help. I read and loved Golden Sovereign as a kid. It took me Years to find Silver Birch. The second sequel is called Midnight Moon. Golden is third. There's a fourth called Copper Khan. Plus she wrote a bunch of other girl and horse books. Covering different horse activities. Polo, rodeo, Olympics, cutting, endurance, etc. Like them all, some are easier to find than others.

I tried to see if I could find any of her books in my library system, and they're harder to find than I'd anticipated. I'm going to have to see if my mom still has my old copy of Silver Birch on her bookshelves somewhere, but I think we may have sold it at a tag sale years ago.

The 4 easiest to find are Golden Sovereign, a scholastic paperback and Blue Smoke, a Yearling paperback. Dark Sunshine and Blue Ribbon Champion (originally titled Harlequin Hullabaloo) were both reprinted as part of the Horse Book Club for kids in the 1970's. When I first discovered eBay, I was going to buy my own copy of Copper Khan, which I had read. Instead I discovered Smoke Rings, which I didn't know existed.
