This is the first year I decided to set an actual goal for my reading: 200 new books in 2008, all to be reviewed in my blog. So far I've managed 73. I'll post the list here shortly. Message edited by its author, Dec 1, 2008, 8:17am. Wow, 73 - that's amazing! I see you've got some of my favorite authors in here (Christopher Moore and Michael Chabon). I think Summerland is one of Chabon's best so far. Thanks! I'm actually pretty pleased with my progress so far, even though I'm a little behind schedule. I struggled a little in the middle of Summerland but wound up liking it quite a bit in the end. I'm new to Chabon, but I like his stuff a lot. Moore is another favorite I just discovered last year. 78. A Dangerous Man by Charlie Huston. One of the best books this year, hands down. 81. Devil's Cape by Rob Rogers Message edited by its author, Jun 9, 2008, 1:11pm. Well done you - great acheivement so far and what a challenge. May I ask - are you buying these books new? Or do you come by them by other means? Mel Some I buy new, some are used. Thanks for the kind thoughts. 82. Right as Rain by George Pelecanos Message edited by its author, Jun 12, 2008, 11:30am. 85. Hell to Pay by George Pelecanos Message edited by its author, Jun 12, 2008, 11:30am. 116. Hunter's Run by George R. R. Martin, Gardner Dozois and Daniel Abraham Hello Bibliophool, (sorry for my English if it's not totaly correct, I'm dutch myself but reading English books now a days)
I see your reading alot of John Connolly, my new favorite writher! I'm reading The Unquiet and have already bought The Reepers.
What is your take on his books? And do you recomend any other writers that have a simular style?
Hope to see a reaction soon :)
Greatings, Nitch You know it's funny, but what I like about him is what makes him unique. There's a hint of spirituality and mysticism in his books that I really enjoy; it never quite becomes urban fantasy, but it adds a lot of tension to the novels. But if you're looking for a similar author I'd suggest Robert Crais. Hello Bibliophool,
Tnx for the feedback, I came to the same conclusion about Connolly. I'll be reading his books till he retires (same for S. King I suppose).
Before you read The Unquiet: Please read Nocturnes first, I didn't and am missing information about a caracter that is in the Nocturnes.
I'll take a look at Robert Crais when I get trough my other books (I'm not as fast as you are with reading): The Unquiet (J. Connolly) Duma (S. King) The Reepers (J. Connolly) Everything is eventual (S.King)
Greatings, Nitch 128. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby 129. The Last Oracle by James Rollins Message edited by its author, Sep 2, 2008, 12:59pm. Wow I am impressed w/ your reading speed. Looks like you read at least a book a day. Some great reads in here. Keep up the good work! Thanks! 138. Nobody's Perfect by Donald Westlake. Message edited by its author, Sep 30, 2008, 1:45pm. 139. Every Last Drop by Charlie Huston. Message edited by its author, Sep 30, 2008, 8:24pm. 142. Nation by Terry Pratchett 143. Return of the Crimson Guard by Ian C. Esslemont 151. Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. The most important book I've read this year. 157. The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes Message edited by its author, Oct 24, 2008, 8:40am. 158. Lamb by Christopher Moore 160. Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Excellent. 161. Scar Night by Alan Campbell. Good, but perhaps a bit overhyped. Good luck, you're almost there! How did you like the Stross books, and some of the newer Glen Cook? The Stross books I liked, but I do find that he can be a little hit or miss. I love the "Laundry" series but I can't stand the "Hidden Family" series.
As far as the Glen Cook, can you be more specific? I love almost everything he's written, but I'm not sure what you're classifying as "newer." (back to top)
