Thanks for setting up the group, Eurydice!

Hey, where's the rest of the phalanx?

3christiguc

Taken out of context, that's quite an odd question! :)

*snerk*

Yes, I can visualize people backing away from the weirdo in the thread. :D

Hope I didn't scare any potential group members away!

Sorry for absenting myself so soon. And thank you for joining!

Let us see what other phalanxes (if that's the proper plural) we can draw upon...

Small-press mystery fans, unite! ;)

Not that long ago I did an Amazon search on Felony & Mayhem and bought a bunch. In general my main issue is that they tend to pick one book per author, and then maybe later do another, whereas if I discover a new {to me} author that I like I want to be able to get their other books as well.

I just read a Felony and Mayhem Elephants at a Distance; it had both strength's and weaknesses.

Ah. I gave that one to a friend with an interest in magic performances, who seemed to enjoy it. How much, I could not tell.

And welcome, quartzite!

Here I am, helping (quite a lot, after a winter spent binging on artisan breads, hot chocolate, and yummy stuff like that) to swell them ranks of phalanxii (or phalanxes)!

*strains neck trying to admire newly painted toenails past bulging belly* heh

YAYYYYYYYYY!!!! That is wonderful! We are getting the phalanx here as well. I told you we were compact...:-))

Another fan for the phalanx.

Oh Pam!! I am so glad you are too!!!!!
:-))))

So am I! :)

Tonight, barring accidents - acts of God, tornadoes, that sort of thing - I should be able to actually spend more than a few disconnected minutes posting. As I ought. :) Starting a group with such minimal time and care is really blamable, I think. (Quite aside from which, I enjoy you - plural - and the books, ever so much.)

Always valued, in books' enjoyment factor, as in other things. In that, especially, do I trust you. :)

Thanks for the invite. I had peeked in here, but did not join. Now I have! Was an invitation required?

I don't think so, etrainer. Welcome to you!!!

No! By no means! And I never even managed to invite all the people I'd meant to.

You're welcome, indeed. :)

Judging by my B & N and Borders experience, yes. Local mystery bookstores (Houston's Murder by the Book), the online/paper catalogue Bas Bleu, Mystery Lovers' (cited on profile page) and a few other independent, online booksellers have them new, aside from Amazon. I have also seen them, used, at MBTB, Half Price Books, and (I think) Betterworld and Abe.

Today, at the library sale, I found two Felony & Mayhem books: The Devil in the Bush by Matthew Head, and The Blackheath Poisonings by Julian Symons. I am very satisfied!

I like the Mary Finney books by Matthew Head and hope you enjoy it.

It sounds very interesting, quartzite. I think it will be one of my very next reads!

Elizabeth Ironside's Death in the Garden is on its way via Bookmooch. Have never read an Ironside and am looking forward to it. Anyone else read this one?

I've read all of her stuff, I think, and like her a lot.

It has been quite a while since I read Death in the Garden, but I still remember it. If you like British mysteries, I think you will like this one.

Thanks Quartzite and Ballyman. A good read - had to sit up late until I finished it. Will try more of Elizabeth Ironside's books.
