I am thinking about getting a Palm Pilot - had one in the day...

New software (Latin translator!) and curious about eBooks.

Have any of you tried them?

I am used to the low-tech actual paper books & I'm wondering what I'll be giving up by trying the e-version....

Any ideas, thoughts, feedback??????

Thanks,
stillethel

I don't really like e-books too much. They are convenient if I don't want to carry a bunch of physical books around with me (although, I usually do anyway.) E-books have a tendency to bother my eyes more than the regular page and ink. And I lose my place more often...but that's just me.

Been doing it for some years now, is fine. Particularly good for always having multiple books in your pocket.

You could always try buying an old palm (or maybe you still have one?) for a few bucks, and see if you like it.

The older grayscale ones are much better for battery life, if that is a factor for you.

How do you lose your place reading a book on a Palm? Every piece of software I have used keeps your place automatically!

I find myself rereading a lot because I think I'm more easily distracted when I have a gadget in my hand than if I have my nose in an actual book. I mean, there is only so much information you can have on the screen at one time, but I still find myself going..."where was I?"

Thank you everyone!

New question: I am a 4 year college student.... do you know if any text books are available for Palm or Kindle???? I have fibromyalgia and carrying these books around is killing me!!!

Thanks again!

I know some textbooks are available that way. Your best bet is to check with the publisher...

I love ebooks but I do not suggest you try to read them on your pilot. It is to small & the text is not as easy to read as it is in the real paper format that some ereaders use. So far the best ereader I have found is amazons Kindle. I have a tablet notevook that I take with me anywhere I go & they look great on there. Also my favorite format for ebooks is microsoft reader but not every reader can read them.
Also stillethel I have been able to find a few textbooks in ebook format but it is hard. The few I found are at textbooks.com

I personally prefer E-books. I don't know about reading them on a palm pilot but i use a software called 'Mobipocket Reader' on my computer. (They are partered with Amazon)

It's easier on my eyes to read it on a computer screen as opposed to holding a book in my hands. And for some strange reason, I finish the books quicker in ebook form than if I read the hardcover.

It's also nice because if you ever want to read a specific part again, or want to look something up there is a search where you can search the text for a particular word or phrase!
