I have two - I have a Queen Anne Victorian house with a very large front porch, so I love to sit on my porch in the morning with a cup of coffee and a good book. We also have a cabin in the Adirondacks and in the winter, I love to get up real early (like 4:00am!) and start the coffee pot and sit by the woodstove and read till my husband wakes up around 7:00 (3 hrs. of nothing but me, coffee, and reading, pure bliss!) 2SqueakyChuDefinitely it's the Old Mill Bakery in Ellicott City, Maryland. They have a small but interesting used bookshelf. I also release some Bookcrossing books there (away from their permanent bookshelf). Coffee's great; pastry's wonderful. You need to get there ahead of others, though, to sit on the couch! :) It has a great display of interesting things to buy. My last great purchase was three (!) new cookbooks. (I previously told myself *not* to buy any more books, but I couldn't resist.) These were the books: Innkeepers' Best Cookies Wake up and smell the coffee Chocolate for breakfast and tea All three have proven excellent to my taste buds!! ETA: Any time of day is great here, but it closes early so it's not available for after supper lounging. :( 3WholeHouseLibraryThere used to be a place in Round Rock, Texas called Saradora's. It was a very old, charming building at the corner of the major intersection of downtown and it just oozed with history. They had their own special blend of coffee and made the BEST breakfast burritos in town. There was a stage for live music (always good - especially this 11-year-old lad playing classical music on his nylon-stringed guitar), artwork-for-sale on the walls, comfortable couches, and lots of tables and chairs. My wife and I would be there every weekend and spend hours over breakfast, playing double-solitaire, reading our books and soaking up the atmosphere. We got on a first-name basis with Sara, and were truly saddened when her best-ever barista, Kate, said she was leaving. We haven't found any place quite like it since. 4CD1amOn a nice day, especially one with an occasional gentle breeze, I enjoy sitting out on the porch swing, reading and drinking coffee. The breeze rustling leaves makes a nice backdrop, and the gentle motion of the swing is relaxing. 5itsJUSTmeOh that sounds so nice! I love my front porch but I do wish I had a porch swing. Maybe someday! 6JaynePupekAs a poet and novelist, I spend most of my day either reading or writing. Other than my dogs (and sometimes my parrots), my cup of coffee is a constant companion. I mostly work at my desk, but my favorite spot to read and drink coffee is my front porch. I live in the woods and love to be surrounded by the foliage and birds. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to spot deer. Jayne Tomato Girl Forms of Intercession 8bostonbibliophileI love to read in coffeeshops (I'll more likely just fall asleep at home!) and I love to go in around 8 or 9 in the morning if I have nothing else going on that day and just loll with my cuppa and a snack and a book. Such a rare treat! :-) 9zenomaxI like taking a day off from work and going into Oxford. There are several really good bookstores, all the major ones have coffeeshops in. Blackwell's is not a multinational chain and does not have a multinational chain - type coffee shop within it, so this ternds to be my favourite. Its great to just wander around Oxford's university buildings, pubs, and other old buildings, soak up the atmosphere, and then wander into a bookshop, purchase a book and sit drinking coffee (possibly with a dainty danish to complement). | AboutThis topic is not marked as primarily about any work, author or other topic.
