He has 2 more books that are being released in Oct. I can't wait to get them. 3doshiamitYea I agree. I think hes going to do a good job. Ive only read the first 2 mistborn books by him, but they work well. I see similarities of style, though hes not as detailed as Jordan, but than again Mistborn isnt WOT. 4SeanieWell I guess it goes without saying that no-one will write it as Jordan would have, but I've got faith that Brandon will do a good job. I've read Alcatraz & the Evil Librarians & Elantris, I really enjoyed them both & IMHO they show that he can write pretty well in more than one style, so I think he should adapt to Jordan's style pretty well. I may be wrong, but I'm thinking that there's not alot of story writing for Brandon to do anyway, I'm sure Jordan's notes are copious so I'd imagine most of the work Brandon will be doing is tying all those notes together into story form, sort of half writer, half editor, so the book should still have Jordan's "flavour" :) 5fyrefly98I think everyone - Sanderson included - would have preferred that AMoL be finished by Jordan himself. Still, I think that he's going to do a fantastic job with it, not only because I think he's a great writer (which I do), but because I think he's a fan first and a writer second... he respects the story and wants it to be satisfying and true-to-style as much as (if not more than) any of the rest of us do. 6MarcoGaidinI tink Sanderson will do a good job. I'm not saying great, because RJ would have been great, but under the circumstances Sanderson should be able to pull it. He is a good author and I enjoyed the books he wrote. (I've read Elantris, Alcatraz and the first two Mistborn novels). In saying that they could have done a hell of a lot worse in their writer selection - Goodkind springs to mind. RJ's notes should be published, and I hope they do so after the final book is released. I would love to get some insight into the process of writing WoT, but also to see what could have been.... That would rock! Keeping with that thought: Arb theory #'RandoM': how would you end the series? What plotlines would you tie up and which would you leave hanging? Which charcters need to die? etc etc etc 7doshiamitI doubt Goodkind was a possibility. Pretty much one of the last public things RJ did was to slam Goodkind on the dragonmount blog. For the end the Series: I want some reunions dammit! Rand and Mat havent seen each other since book 6. Mat and Perrin havent seen each other since Book 4. Tam and Rand havent met in 11 books. Egwene and Rand last met in Book 5. Nynaeve and Elayne havent seen Egwene since Book 6(though not really considering TAR). Perrin last met Eg, Nyn, or El in Book 4. No one has seen Moirraine since Book 5. Morgase and all of her kids. Too many to name. For a people who have learnt the art of travelling they are terrible at keeping in touch with each other. Plotlines I want tied up : So many. Here are the ones of top of my head: The big one of course i.e. Tarmon Gaidon. The future of the Black Tower(Logain vs Taim). Mat and the Seanchan need to come sort of resolution. Id like to see what happens to Lans attempt to revive Malkier. Basheres Dark aura(though this might not be a major plot oint, but I am really curious about what Min saw) Elaidas comeuppance Whats the deal with the too young Sitter mystery? Will Damer Flinn be able to help restore stregnth of Leane and Siuan? How can Logain have the Golden Aura and Narishma be the one who comes after? Are they allies or rivals post TG? Thank God this has already happened: Elaynes succession is resolved. Shaido are done Sea Folk are done. 8MarcoGaidinHeh. Loving it Doshi... I totally agree with the meeting up thing. Looong overdue. I suppose that's a give with TG around the corner though? Otherwise it'll be the worst orchestrated assualt in the history of any and all fantasy worlds. Plotlines I would like to see tied up: Logain vs Taim - epic cagematch battle Mat rescuing Moirraine - it needs to happen, in like the Prologue. Lan whupping the Borderlands into shape should be fnu. Elaida eaten by the Gholam. Yay baby. Eqwene reuniting the WT. (Along with that the end of the Purge. Too many AS that I have to try and memorise) Sitter mystery - http://www.steelypips.org/wotfaq/2_nondark/2.6_what-up-nondark/2.6.5_sitters.htm... - pretty convincing theory What Narishma will become What will become of the Ogier. Will they leave or will Loyal convince them to stay? Who will rule what post TG. Can Eqwene please Bond Gawyn already? When will Galad and Berelain meet and become Brangelina2? Will I ever reach l70 in wow...unrelated but affects my reading time. Characters that need to be killed and quickly: Aram - done, but they can kill him again. Faile. Fain. Elaida. The Prophet. Please. Pretty please. Also: it looks like the WOTFAQ has been updated. FYI. 9doshiamitWhoops... I forgot my most anticipated confrontation. I am dying to see the first time Mat meets Cadsuane. I cannot wait for those 2 to come in contact. Mr. Sanderson if your listening, please please please make sure this is in the book. 10booklover79Good ones doshiamit, Marco. I definitely want to see Fain get his just rewards.LOL. I think Sanderson will do a good job. Anyways, there are several books that are coming out next year I'm looking forward to, so it should keep me occupied until AMOL comes out.=) If I don't think about it, I'm good!LOL. 11DWWilkinIn reading the thoughts on plot lines we would like to see finished by the end of the series, how about plot lines that we didn't need to ever have at all? It seems to me, though I really enjoy this series greatly, that we could have had a tremendously great tale with a lot less items in place. It is certainly something that any studio planning to make a movie is going to consider. Do we need the plot points surrounding the Seachan, if something had to be cut, say, to reduce what might be a sixty hour epic to forty hours? (Which still might be reduced to twelve) 12MarcoGaidinGood point Wilkin and welcome to the Hall of Servants. From some of the other threads on the Board, I can promise you that neither Doshi, nor I would cry ourselves to sleep if they cut out the entire Elayne's Succession plotline that seemed to go on for pages and pages. I also wouldn't mind if the - "oh woe is me my wife is gone I am in terrible states of self loathing and despair what will I do *wringing of hands*" - Perrin and Faile meet the Shaido plotline is cut down to size. The Purge in the WT will have to be abbreviated as there are just too many AS running around. I can not read any of that without my trusty Encyclopeadia WOT handy. *imagines a decently done cgi battle of Dumai's Wells. Drools* Also, I saw that Red Eagle/Dabel Brothers are planning to do a MMORPG based on WoT. Now THAT would rock. 13doshiamitThere are most definitely a number of storylines that are superfluous. I'd say the succession was the most annoying. Regarding the Perin-Faile thing, Im ok with the Perrin parts, the Faile parts annoy me. Though I do thnk that part of the irritation there comes from the fact that their story doesnt move for a couple of books. IIRC there actually arent that many Perrin Faile Chapters in Books 8, 9, or 10, its just that there is no progress. Another guy who I enjoyed the first time but grates on a reread is Valan Luca in TFOH. The Seanchan stoylines are more of a setup for Mat Tuon so I can see the need for some of that, and I get pleasure just reading the name Furyk Karede. It doesnt really matter what he does with a name like that :). Ive never been all that into MMORPGs but I can see myself playing as an Ashaman for sure. One more thing. Sanderson has a sci fi novella up on tor.com called Firstborn. Really good. Really really good. The more I read him the happier I am with the choice. Have ordered Elantris, plan to read it this month. | AboutThis topic is not marked as primarily about any work, author or other topic. TouchstonesNo touchstones |
