JAMES BOND RETURNS IN BENSON'S TRILOGY

CHICAGO - Oct. 6, 2008 - This October 2008, in the year of James Bond creator Ian

Fleming's 100th birthday, Raymond Benson, the third author commissioned to pen the

Bond novels between 1996 and 2002, will see the publication of an anthology of three of

his out-of-print James Bond tales under the collective title, The Union Trilogy (Pegasus

Books, ISBN 978-1-60598-007-2). Following hot on the heels of Devil May Care, the

latest official best-selling 007 novel written by Sebastian Faulks, and anticipating the

November release of the 22nd James Bond motion picture, Quantum of Solace, the

omnibus will be launched at the U.S. opening of the "Bond Bound" art exhibit of 007

book jacket covers at Bonhams Gallery in New York on October 18.

Several authors have been commissioned by Ian Fleming's Estate to pen 007 novels

throughout the years, but Benson is unique in that he was the only American to have the

privilege. In total, Benson wrote six original Bond novels, three film novelizations, and

three short stories. The Union Trilogy consists of three of the original books-High Time

to Kill, DoubleShot, and Never Dream of Dying, as well as the full-length, "director's

cut" of the short story Blast from the Past, which originally appeared in a shortened form

in Playboy Magazine. A new Introduction by the author is also included.

About Benson's Bond, Booklist said, "It's clear that Benson is the best of the successors

to Bond creator Fleming. Fans of Fleming's original novels can pick up a Benson

adventure and feel right at home." The Edinburgh Evening News in Britain said, "Bond

novels have been written by several authors since Fleming's death, including Kingsley

Amis, but Raymond Benson is, for my money, one of the best. His fast-paced action and

stylish recreation of 007 make his work a must for all Bond fans." And Publisher's

Weekly said, "Benson embues his Bond with enough honor, sexual prowess and action-

hero skills to please the purist and enthrall the novice."

About the book:

The Union Trilogy by Raymond Benson

ISBN: 978-1605980072

Here's the Nonsense info:

New YA book: The Book of Nonsense - teen lit with a dark suspenseful plot

Publisher Expects New Series to be Banned

David Michael Slater just completed a new literary fantasy adventure series fraught with

suspense, hidden clues, bizarre twists and an ancient book full of utter nonsense...Slater

understands that the secret to capturing the interest of teens is to engage their curiosity

and intelligence by hooking them with a blend of unusual references, mysterious clues

and a dark, suspenseful plot packed with action. - Portland Tribune

Austin, TX - Oct. 6, 2008 - THE BOOK OF NONSENSE, Volume 1 of the Sacred

Books series, already included in the Association of Booksellers for Children's Best

Books of 2008, will be released by Blooming Tree Press/CBAY. The series is certain to

explode notions of "Teen Lit," by venturing boldly into "Da Vinci Code" territory. The

publisher expects a firestorm by the time Volume 3 reaches shelves in 2010. The web is

already abuzz with talk about film deals and book banning.

The book is ancient, ravaged and full of utter nonsense. But the moment it enters Daphna

and Dexter's lives, bizarre things begin to happen. Why is their father, who found the

book, suddenly so distant? Is the old man who took it from him some kind of hypnotist?

Why is a giant, red-eyed boy menacing them? And what does their thirteenth birthday

have to do with all this? Daphna and Dexter can't stand each other, but they'll have to

work together to learn the truth about the Book of Nonsense - before their lives come

apart completely.

Twin protagonists, Daphna and Dexter, illustrate the books two-fold appeal. Readers with

Daphna's passionate literary sensibilities will be rewarded by the depth of Slater's

writing. Riddled with enough mysterious clues and allusions to keep the most research-

obsessed reader engaged, the Sacred Books series provides intellectual thrills all

throughout the completed five-book series. For those preferring action to contemplation,

like Dex, THE BOOK OF NONSENSE rivets even the most reluctant reader to the page

with its dark and suspenseful plot, its horrifying villains and its insider's view of the life

of real teens. The incendiary Sacred Books series will continue with THE INFINITE;

THE LIBRARY; THE BOOK OF THE MAP; and THE BOOK OF ALL THINGS.

About the book:

Re: Book of Nonsense

I think maybe the author decided he was getting too many no responses to his pdf offer, so he's stopped asking. I got this message from him this afternoon:

Thanks for your offer to review. We're running dangerously low on ARC's (a good thing, I suppose), so here's THE BOOK OF NONSENSE (the uncorrected proof).

and he just attached the pdf rather than ask if I was willing to read it that way. I hope that there's no implication there that I've obligated myself to reading it, because as much as I'd like to read the book, I don't enjoy ebooks at all. My eyes start to go buggy after a few pages and the whole scroll thing makes me nauseous.

12 -

A Sony Reader will allow you to do that? Will Kindles do this, too? I was under the impression (I've done no research as you can see) that you'd just be able to read books you bought through the respective sites. I've been trying to decide if I'm wanting to ask Santa for one this year.

Speaking of Readers for those of you who have one - any thoughts on which is better, sony's reader or amazon's kindle?

15sharonluvscats

14-
I have a palm tx which views pdf, txt, and palm database files. I use a converter for everthing else. I got mine for a xmas gift last year. totally worth it. Don't see the point in spending so much for a kindle.

16jennsbookshelves
Oct 6, 2008, 8:29pm

14-
Yes, you can either use books you downloaded from the Sony site or PDFs (maybe other formats too but I don't use them). I think Kindle can, but you have to email it to them to change it to a version that it can use, from what I gather. I got my Sony Reader for Mother's Day last year. I like the "feel" of the Sony Reader versus the Kindle. The Kindle books are cheaper (all are around $9.99 and you can download them wirelessly) versus the Sony's books (new releases are around $15 but they have awesome coupons for discounts each month. Kindles are around $400, Sony Readers $299ish. Although, the new touch screen Reader is about to come out, and it's $399

I love my Sony Reader. I have about 12 books on it now and it's the size of a steno pad! I tuck it in my purse and I can read from anywhere!

So I read and reviewed my first book from a Bostick email. I have a question for you guys, usually after I post my review I also send it to whatever email address is specified or sometimes to the email address I sent my request to. When I received this Bostick book it didn't come with a contact email address. I don't really want to send it to that random Bostick email that sends us all the messages, probably wouldn't get to an actual person? I'm sort of figuring I'll just leave it be on my blog, librarything, amazon and not email it to anyone related to Bostick. Anyone have a better solution?

18PhoenixTerran

I was actually wondering what to do myself. I also send out an e-mail when I post a review and include the link to the blog entry. I have sent e-mails to Bostick in the past, unrelated to a request, and have received a response from a real person. I probably will end up e-mailing them, but I doubt they really care. They might send it along to the author, though.

Anyone use an iPod for reading ebooks? You're supposed to be able to read PDFs on them, but all I have is a 1GB Nano with the itsy bitsy screen ... I'm thinking of looking for a bigger iPod under the pine needles in the living room this December.

I used to read on a Palm but stopped buying ebooks because of the DRM issues. But since I've collected 50 free ebooks in the last four months I'm starting to consider another reader.

26lorin77
Oct 8, 2008, 4:27pm

For my 2 Bostick books, I went to the author's website and sent it to the email listed there. And both times the author emailed me back directly thanking me for the review. Definitely a "oh, gosh, you're reading this?" moment.

Anysia, I have an iPhone that reads pdf's and while screen is bigger than a nano, its still not great. I also installed a free ebook reader, but I find that I very rarely use it. My eyes get too much strain from staring at a computer screen all day.

Did anyone else get the one for The Family Bones? It may be the most annoyingly formatted email *ever.* Everything was in a single column, about three words long. At first, I thought it was a poem. Anyway.

New Thriller: The Family Bones

St. Augustine FL, Oct 22, 2008 - Author Kimberly Raiser announces her newest book,
The Family Bones.

Will they stay? Will they survive? The Weavers have inherited family property in Astral,
Pennsylvania, a town so small that Mrs. Weaver can find no mention of it on the Internet,
save for a tiny spot on Google Earth. Hoping for a simpler, small-town existence for their
young family, Steven and Tara eagerly head to Astral to see what they hope will be their
dream house.

As they explore their potential new home, the Weavers begin to discover secret
passageways, secret rooms, and long buried family truths; some difficult truths are
revealed and no longer kept in the far reaches of the closet. There are reasons for
everything, and sometimes the explanations are so simple. But sometimes, simple can also
be horrifying.

Each family member will be changed forever...if they live to remember. Paranormal,
Aliens, witchcraft..or simple logic, the reader is left to decide.

The iPod touch can use the iPhone software applications. You can download free (or non-free) apps that are a bit like Palm apps. I have two different free reader apps- I don't know about which e-book formats are compatible, but assume you could get most digital books to work. You can download free books- all seem to be public domain - i.e. out of copyright. The screen is not huge, but much bigger than my old iPod nano. I can read from it- especially since it can turn 90 degrees and fit in the wider view. You can zoom in and out, but that would make me crazy if I was reading for very long. so far single page view is ok for me.

The Adventures of Songha: The Amazing Savannah Cat

Whimsical new children's book shows the importance of family, the virtues of courage and bravery

Henderson, NV, Oct 28, 2008 - In her new children's book, The Adventures of Songha: The Amazing

Savannah Cat, Linda R. Caterine provides the reader with a "cat's eye" view into the heart and soul of

Songha, a beautiful exotic Savannah cat.

Savannah cats are a relatively new breed that is part African Serval Wildcat and part domestic cat.

Songha's temperament is that of a traditional domestic cat, but her wildcat blood drives her to seek out

adventure. Her restlessness takes her into exciting and sometimes, dangerous territory.

The Adventures of Songha is intended for readers aged 9-12. Caterine has based the story on her real-life

experiences breeding and raising these unusual Savannah cats. In The Adventures of Songha, the reader

learns about Songha's Serval father and his African homeland in the grassy savannahs of the Kalahari

Desert. Songha relates her adventure of leaving her father to go and live with her new family in Las

Vegas.

Songha loves her new family but is disappointed about being kept inside the house. She longs to be able

to go outside and roam free and begins searching for ways to escape. Songha doesn't want to run away

from her home; she just wants to be able to come and go for a while.

Caterine has included a poem at the end of each chapter summarizing its contents. At the end of Chapter

Three, in "One Of A Kind," Caterine writes:

My new home is in Las Vegas

With its bright and shiny streets,

Where white tigers jump through fiery hoops

In a city that never sleeps,

A fitting place for one like me

Where "Stars" are often seen,

I have found that in Las Vegas

It is GOOD to be the Queen!

From her daring escape through an upstairs window to her confrontation with a wild coyote, The

Adventures of Songha shows that these unique Savannah cats can be wild, sweet, endearing and

infuriating - all at the same time! As Songha pursues her adventures she learns valuable life lessons and

gains much needed wisdom, all the while making new friends, both feline and human.

About the book:

The Adventures of Songha: The Amazing Savannah Cat by Linda R. Caterine

About the author:

Linda R. Caterine and her husband, Tony, live in the Las Vegas area. A few years ago they became

fascinated with Savannah cats and now breed these rare creatures. She acquired Songha and realized that

this amazing cat and her experiences would make a wonderful children's story. The Adventures of

Songha: The Amazing Savannah Cat is Caterine's first book and, according to Caterine, is the first-ever

children's book about Savannah cats to be published. For more information, visit

New book: Choosing to Be: Lessons in Living from a Feline Zen Master
Stress Relief in Tough Times by Owning A Cat

Ojai, CA, Nov 24, 2008 - In this time of economic turbulence many people are seeking

relief from unrelenting stress. Cat owners have an edge: Studies show a 30% reduction in

risks of heart attack when felines are in the home, and just petting a cat lowers blood

pressure by inducing an instant relaxation response. Meditators also have an edge: Not

only does meditation help reduce the toxic chemistries of stress, a recent study showed that

75% of insomniacs who were trained in meditation fell asleep within 20 minutes.

Just in time for Christmas, meditation and domestic cats pair up in Kat Tansey's magical

and heartwarming Choosing to Be: Lessons in Living from a Feline Zen Master, in which a

Buddha master cat teaches the fundamentals of meditation to his human roommate. The

book itself provides the benefits of petting a cat and meditating, as reader Jack Kimbell

shared when he wrote: "I loved this book. Just reading it lowered my blood pressure!"

In addition to the physical benefits of owning a cat, the author captures the mystical

relationship many humans have had with their feline companions over the ages., as

expressed by Eckhart Tolle: "I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them cats."

Endorsed by Carol Kline, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul, and Mary

Allen, author of The Power of Inner Choice, Choosing to Be is the fictionalized story of

how, with the help of her Buddha Master cat, Kat Tansey learns the simple basics of sitting

and walking meditation, and uncovers the mystery of living life stress-free, even in

turbulent times.

New book: The Best Friend I Ever Had - learn about the legend - Ernest Hemingway

Learn All About Ernest Hemingway Through the People Who Knew Him -- New Book Discusses Varied People the Author Knew Were Involved With the Legendary Hemingway

SAN DIEGO, Dec 16, 2008 - Learning the traits and discovering the elements that made

a legend can be an intriguing experience. This proved true with the real-life experience of

author David Nuffer as he discovers about the great Ernest Hemingway and the kind of

life he lived. Get to know the person behind the legendary Hemingway in Nuffer's new

book The Best Friend I Ever Had: Revelations about Ernest Hemingway.

A work reflecting life itself, The Best Friend I Ever Had talks about the people Nuffer

has known for the past thirty years - notably people who knew the legendary Ernest

Hemingway. Among them are Hemingway's wife, Mary; his son, Patrick; his friends in

Cuba at mid-century; a jai-alai champion; and his best friend in Ketchum, Idaho, over the

twenty-two years that he visited or lived there. Their comments and reminiscences about

the literary icon are new and revealing, sometimes provocative, sometimes inflammatory.

Readers will also find a rich collection of photographs and documents never before

published, including unreleased letters to Hemingway from his doctors at the Mayo

Clinic following his shock treatments there in 1960 and 1961. In the words of one

academic researcher, "I thought, and was told, that the Mayo file was closed and

unavailable." This book proves otherwise. More importantly, the text includes eight

chapters of remembrances plus a final chapter with four capsule entries, including the

story of the discovery of Hemingway's Toronto Star typewriter. Ultimately, you will find

"The Best Friend" a font of fresh information that discloses the complexity of the man

behind the legend.

since 1958. The occupation that pays the bills is public relations. He's been in the

serves as board chairman. Nuffer's enthusiasm for Hemingway began with the reading of

Death in the Afternoon, which he deems the best treatise on bullfighting ever written.

He's collected first editions of nearly all of the author's books, and has visited more than

one-hundred sixty Hemingway-related sites in Canada, Cuba, Europe, and the U.S.,

Life Cycles By Neil Killion

USA Book News honors Life Cycles as a National Best Books 2008 Awards finalist in two

categories: New Age: Non-Fiction and Best Website Design

Sydney, Australia, Dec 22, 2008 - Is it possible there remains a stone yet unturned in our

quest to understand life's purpose? We are inquisitive creatures by nature, and despite so

many entrenched systems for understanding who we are - astrology, numerology,

palmistry, even psychology - there remain questions, and we want answers.

Enter Life Cycles , the new book and groundbreaking theory from Neil Killion that

guarantees to change the way you think about life and the way you live it. Killion calls

Life Cycles both "controversial and evidence-based." Its premise is mind-boggling and

worth further consideration: we live our lives in symbolically repeatable 12-year cycles,

and during two important years in every 12, we see fate take a hand in unusual ways.

Killion explains:

The word "symbolically" is used because the same themes occur rather than the same

actions. There are two important years in the 12-year cycle. They are the first year

(known as the "Year of Revolution", which equates to the ages of birth, 12, 24, 36, 48,

etc.) and the eighth year (known as the "Year of Broken Pathways", which equates to the

ages of 7, 19, 31, 43, etc.). During these years we are relatively "out of control" and fate

can play a more prominent role. If all the evidence of these two recurring years is

analysed, it then forms what's known as a "Life Chart" and the ultimate reduction is a

"Life Script". In addition, all 12 years are given new names, icons and descriptions. At its

fullest, Life Cycles is just like a new version of astrology, except it doesn't talk of

personality; it only talks of the significance of timing, i.e. where you are on the cycle.

Designed to both entertain and inform, Life Cycles uses details from the public record to

dissect the lives of famous historical figures, world leaders, celebrities, criminals, and

ordinary citizens. Killion's new terms and iconography will help readers make sense of

life's symbolic meaning.

"You won't read anything quite as original and intriguing and you will never look at your

life the same way again," Killion writes. "Is it just fanciful or does Life Cycles represent

the most important addition to esoteric knowledge for thousands of years?"

The Bomb that Followed Me Home

By Cevin Soling

NEW YORK, Jan 5, 2009 - Rumpleville Books is pleased to release the third book in Cevin Soling's

series of "fairly twisted fairy tales."

The Bomb That Followed Me Home is the story of a boy, who is followed home by a stray bomb. The

bomb follows him everywhere--by trees and landfills, and even the yard of a cantankerous neighbor who

yells at the boy for running on their lawn. This same neighbor planted hedges three feet into the boy's

yard.

The boy's parents are resistant to keep the bomb, "who will polish it and change its fuse?" But still the

young boy wants to keep it, and even has given the bomb a name-Rusty. The boy's father tries to find

the bomb's original owner, calling all kinds of authorities like the Department of Defense. He also

reaches out to the Weathermen. No one is missing a bomb. Finally the bomb is "given" to the

cantankerous neighbors... And then his parents take down the hedges.

The Bomb That Followed Me Home has received its share of acclaim. Midwest Book Reviews cites the

book, as "surreal .The whimsical, modern-art style of the illustrations are a perfect fit for the loopy mood

of this delightful story." Flash News cites the book as author Cevin Soling's "vengeance" against "people

who are mean and psychotic." FOREWORD magazine gave The Bomb high acclaim, writing that Cevin

Soling and illustrator Steve Kille "have the power to make readers laugh, and then think. Then scoff at the

futility of thinking."

The Rumpleville series are contemporary fables that are replete with social commentary

The fairy tale format highlights the perverse morality of contemporary culture and foiled promises of

"happily ever after" endings. Like Animal Farm, the simplicity of plot also draws attention to the political

intentions of the work.

Politics in Compassion: The Future of American Politics by Jack Schauer

Toward a Better Politics: Author's New Book Shows How Compassion

Can End Partisan Divide

Fargo, ND, Jan 6, 2009 - It's one of the biggest political buzzwords. But is "post-

partisanship" actually possible? According to a new book by author Jack Schauer, the

answer is decidedly "yes." He examines our current political environment and outlines a

way in which bitter rivals can come together to serve the common good in Politics in

Compassion: The Future of American Politics.

At the core of Schauer's study is the notion of political compassion. Politicians who have

it are able to identify with the less fortunate in a way that inspires positive policy change

while finding common ground with their political opposites. In scholarly yet accessible

prose, Schauer takes a look at past figures who exemplify the phenomena¾from Jesus

and Jane Addams, to Franklin Roosevelt and John Kennedy. And here's the

breakthrough: true political compassion isn't owned by right or left. Rather, Schauer

shows how conservatives, evangelicals, rich and poor can stay true to their ideals while

working to achieve goals all Americans agree are in our best interest.

Those goals are a laundry list of some of the world's biggest challenges¾race, poverty,

caring for the elderly, improving the prospects of our young people. Schauer examines

these and more, with an eye toward establishing a framework for action that includes all

sides from every political persuasion. While not everyone will be happy with every

policy, Schauer shows how emphasizing compassion will end the bitter, partisan fighting

of the past three decades. And that means adopting strategies based on their effectiveness,

not their political expediency.

"We should realize that there are some situations which might call for a more liberal

position or mandate, and other situations that might be best approached from a

conservative viewpoint," Schauer writes. "It is my belief that if political leaders...can

decide which type of political belief best serves a particular situation...then it may be

possible for both parties to broach specific sentiments and underlying belief systems in an

atmosphere of camaraderie."

Can that really happen? If past is prologue, yes. Further, Schauer shows how the notion

of political compassion is also at the root of the growing movement centered around the

religious figure known as Maitreya, whose popular message centers around the world's

wealthy finding compassion for the poor.

At a time of new leadership in Washington, Schauer's book is even more relevant for

anyone looking for a roadmap to a more effective government.

The Five Lost Days by William Petrick

Acclaimed New Novel Explores Media and Truth-Telling from the

Inside Out

Pittsburgh, PA, Jan 7, 2009 - An adventure from the depths of the rain

forest that shows you how the media really works. Introducing The Five Lost Days, a

blockbuster novel from multi-Emmy Award winning producer and author William

Petrick.

Struggling documentary producer Michael Burns has traveled to the remote Maya

Mountains of Belize to capture exclusive footage of the last surviving curandero. The

traditional Mayan healer may hold the key to discovering new medicines among the vast,

uncharted flora of the rain forest. But with a violent civil war spilling across the border

from neighboring Guatemala - and Burns inexplicably drawn to the aging curandero's

American apprentice - the filmmakers stumble into a more explosive story than they ever

could have imagined. At once an adventure and an exploration into the nature of

perception, The Five Lost Days exposes the clash between modern culture and ancient

beliefs.

As the author William Petrick states, "I don't think I could have written this novel--or

wanted to--without the experience of working in documentaries. The best reporters and

producers really want to get the story right when they travel to far-off places and

conflicts. But, many times, there comes a time when the story you thought you were

going to cover doesn't materialize and, suddenly, there you are in a JOB--someone's

paying you to get a story and feed it to the media beast. At that moment, what's truth and

what isn't can get blurry as can your own perceptions. The pressure to tell a story--any

story--takes over with unforeseen consequences. It's not always bad, of course.

Sometimes this professional panic can yield truth no one was expecting--especially the

filmmaker.

As in many other professions and lines-of-work, there is also a very peculiar culture to

the documentary and news business. I don't always like it but I am perpetually fascinated

by the women and men who choose to do it for a living. They're in this novel in all their

courage, insanity and just plain loopiness. When I think of a crew member, I think of the

people on Burns' crew (the main character) who will do anything, risk anything to GET

THAT SHOT. They're like bush pilots in the wilderness who risk all as a matter of

routine."

Television news legend Linda Ellerbee proclaims: "With spare prose, a fascinating

location, strong characters and a damn good story, Petrick takes us into journalism's

heart of darkness; that is, the false sense of safety that comes with being the 'outsider,'

the one who merely covers a story, versus the dangers of what might happen if one day

you suddenly step away from the middle of the road and fall into your story."

Former CNN Correspondent Michele Mitchell says: "You know you're in good

storytelling hands when within the first five pages you can't stop reading. With masterful

suspense, Petrick brings us into two little-known worlds: the mountains of Belize and

television news production. Truthful and wise, 'The Five Lost Days' is a debut novel

that actually delivers."

Award-winning novelist Philip Cioffari lauds: "Petrick makes the Belize jungle

come alive with the precise lyricism of his language. He's written a thinking man's

adventure tale, laden with political, social and cultural significance-in the tradition of

Peter Matthiessen's 'Killing Mr. Watson' and Paul Theroux's 'The Mosquito Coast.'"

Sparks: How Parents Can Help Ignite the Hidden Strengths

of Teenagers

By Peter L. Benson, Ph.D.

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan 8, 2009 - Parenting a teenager has never been more difficult in our

culture of plugged-in, tuned-out, instant-results living. Efforts to control or discipline

teens are often misguided. Instead of viewing teenagers as cumbersome challenges,

parents can embrace a revolutionary way to relate to them as emerging young women and

The Angry Smile by Dr. Nicholas Long

NEW BOOK REVEALS HOW TO STOP FRUSTRATING ARGUMENTS,

ENDLESS CONFLICT CYCLES AND RELATIONSHIP-DAMAGING

WARS OF WORDS

--------

"The Angry Smile: The Psychology of Passive Aggressive Behavior in Families, Schools and

Workplaces, 2nd Edition" reveals a set of compelling, memorable, and easy-to-use strategies for

living, teaching and working with passive aggressive people

Allentown, PA., Jan 8, 2009-- Though there is much anecdotal discussion, watercooler gossip

and internet chatter about passive-aggressive behavior, there is very little published on the topic.

"The Angry Smile: The Psychology of Passive Aggressive Behavior in Families, Schools and

Workplaces, 2nd Edition" by Long, Long, and Whitson fills a void in the published psychology of

passive aggressive behavior, using real-world examples and practical strategies to which

audiences can easily relate.

The Angry Smile comprehensively examines passive-aggressive behavior in children,

adolescents, and adults within families, school settings, and the workplace. This revised and

enhanced update to the text first published in 2001 widely broadens its original scope from just

children and teachers to passive-aggressive interactions across the lifespan. Brand new chapters

on passive aggressive behavior in marriage, extended family, and the workplace open The Angry

Smile to husbands and wives, fathers and sons, mothers-in-law and anyone daring to face them,

as well as Human Resources managers, supervisors, employees, and general audiences

everywhere!

What makes The Angry Smile so valuable is the roadmap it provides for not only understanding

the nature of passive-aggressive behavior, but for effectively confronting it. Part 1 of the book,

"What is Passive Aggression?" explores the historical roots of the term as well as related anger-

management styles such as aggression, assertiveness, and passivity. It describes specific

developmental pathways to passive aggressive behaviors as well as the reasons why people use

passive aggressive behavior in a variety of situations and contexts. The highlight of this section

is the classification of passive aggressive behavior into five distinct (and increasingly

pathological) levels.

Part 2, "Identifying Passive Aggressive Behaviors" examines passive aggression in the home,

school, marriage and extended family, and in the workplace at each distinct level. Each chapter

features relatable, real-world examples of passive aggressive behavior among children,

adolescents, and adults.

Part 3, "Changing Passive Aggressive Behavior" introduces the new psychology of passive

aggression, explaining such concepts as counter-passive aggression and the Passive Aggressive

Conflict Cycle. This section also defines eight specific skills for responding to passive

aggressive behavior, with an emphasis on self-awareness and self-management.

Benign Confrontation

The final chapter of the book outlines the powerful skills of Benign Confrontation--a how-to

feature that busy professionals and weary recipients of the passive aggressor's sugarcoated

hostility will not want to miss! This six-step process put the complex skills of managing passive

aggressive behavior into easy-to-read, easy-to-relate to terms that teachers, parents, adult

children, spouses, family members, bosses, employees, co-workers, and professionals

everywhere can use.

Step 1: Recognize the patterns

Step 2: Refuse to Engage

Step 3: Affirm the Anger

Step 4: Manage the Denial

Step 5: Revisit the Thought

Step 6: Identify Areas of Competence

The six-step process of Benign Confrontation equips readers to unmask the hidden anger of a

passive-aggressive person, change the destructive nature of this behavioral pattern, and

strengthen the relationship in the long-term.

City Above The Sea And Other Poems by Stephen Alan Saft

Vision of Future Launching Point For New Poetry Collection Dealing With

Overpopulation, Assassinations, Architecture, Divorce, Computers, Many Other

Topics

Compelling Portraits of Inspiring People in City Above The Sea And Other Poems,

Collection of 34 Poems by Stephen Alan Saft

Laurel Fork, VA, Jan 9, 2009 - A vision of the future provides the launching point for the poetry of

Stephen Alan Saft as presented in his illustrated new book, City Above The Sea And Other Poems, a

collection of 34 poems. In his conception of a city housing hundreds of thousands of people and built

out in the ocean, Saft presents a solution for the growing problems associated with overpopulation and

global warming. Other topics that pass within the poet's ken are the effects of the great inspiring

professor on the young student, the possibility of heroism in a middle class shop keeper, the fragile

nature of romantic love, divorce, the contrasts revealed in New York City, the function and effects of

modern architecture, the inherent limitations in computer technology, the reality of poverty in

supposedly affluent country, and the necessity of caring about what comes after the span of each of our

individual lives.

One of the rhyming poems in the collection-"Forty Years Come And Gone"-looks at the

assassinations in the 1960s in the light of the events of the George W. Bush Administration and

questions the plausibility of "coincidence" as an explanation.

A mixture of rhyming and non-rhyming pieces, some of the poems of the new book are philosophical

or religious in nature and function as voyages of discovery for the reader-poems such as "To An Old

Professor Wherever" or "Visitor In October," and more. This collection also consists of exhortative

poems like "City Above The Sea," "Forty Years Come And Gone," and "What Will Be," which are

enriched by the power of performance, a vital element of their style. A number of narrative poems

reveal the poet's interest in telling stories through poetry such as "The Big Drawing," "A Little Whale

Came In My Life," and a lot more.

I'm not exactly sure how I got added to their e-mail list, but you can probably request to be added by e-mailing ops@bostickcommunications.com

Their website is: http://www.bostickcommunications.com/

Of course, I don't mind posting here--so, if you can't get added for whatever reason, let me know. Cheers! :-D

I just started getting e mails from them a while back too for no apparent reason. I think they troll book blogs or something and get your e mail address there. Just my opinion, not a statement of fact.

79tbbycatt
Jan 14, 2009, 8:44pm

how many emails do you get from them? I've only gotten one.

80PhoenixTerran

It varies. They don't seem to be sending out as much as they used to, but I still seem to get a couple every few days.

The first one I got said you could restrict the number of e mails by specifying genres you are interested in. Did you do that?

82PhoenixTerran

I haven't.

83tbbycatt
Jan 15, 2009, 5:28pm

I've only gotten the one which I sent back and requested, and then later that day got an email from the author saying it would be in the mail. Other than that I've not heard from them.
