The October batch of books is up! It's a big one this month -- the batch includes 1,670 copies of 55 books. And there are a number of countries that are included too -- books in this batch are open to residents of the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, France, Germany, and Israel. The list is here. Enjoy! Now the agony of 3 to 4 weeks to find out the results I'm so excited! I managed to log in in time to request some books before they filled up! I don't know if that helps my chances or not, but some of the new titles look like they'd be fun to read. Sorry to burst your bubble, noumenon, but your chances are unaffected by your order in the request queue. All the figuring-out of who gets which book is done after the request period ends. It really is like Christmas this time! So many I could have requested! But I'm especially excited to see The Jewel of Medina as I researched A'isha as an undergrad and published a paper in our school journal about her, and also for Beyond Belief, because I'm such a baseball fanatic, and adored Josh Hamilton when he played (just one year... boo) for the Reds. *adds dozens of books to her wish list on Amazon* Oct 9, 2008, 4:21pm (top)Message 6: MarthaJeanneA lot of books I would really like. Oh, well, maybe next time. (Nothing available in Austria this time.) Wow! There are some really good books available. I requested 7 of them. Thanks Abby! 3> As it says in the FAQ and the rules that you read when you signed up for ER, it doesn't work that way. The entire POINT of the LT Early Reviewer program is that it matches based on your library, not just a first-come first-serve? Oct 9, 2008, 4:39pm (top)Message 9: rainbowdarlingI'm so excited to see The Jewel of Medina! It looks like a really great batch this time around - I requested seven this month. :) My wishlist just seems to grow and grow... Oct 9, 2008, 4:40pm (top)Message 10: reading_foxLoads of interesting books there. Signed up for many. I must be best match for one of them surely. Oct 9, 2008, 5:43pm (top)Message 11: Bitter_GraceGraphic novel versions of the classics? Yes, please! Funny, I was just thinking it would be nice to get more GNs in the mix. Am I the only one who can't access the publisher info for those? Oct 9, 2008, 5:46pm (top)Message 12: ablachlyWhoops, I fixed the publisher links for Classical Comics Oct 9, 2008, 6:00pm (top)Message 13: SadOatcakesAny idea why The Uncommon Reader is on the list? It's already been out for about a year. Oct 9, 2008, 6:03pm (top)Message 14: CarolOGood Luck y'all...none of the books called out my name this month so you have one less competitor this month. I'm happy to help your odds improve this month! Oct 9, 2008, 6:05pm (top)Message 15: elizabeth_sWow, tons of great books are available this month. None of them match my library, but maybe the algorithm will make a mistake. :) Entering my cookbooks in time could help. It's fun just to read the list and see books that I'd never pick up otherwise. I requested the high school book (Cracked Up?) because the excerpt intrigued me, and I pretty much never read mainstream YA stuff. Oct 9, 2008, 6:09pm (top)Message 16: loraxEntering my cookbooks in time could help. Just FYI, "in time" is "before the batch is put up"; otherwise it's too easy to game the system by putting in lots of books (owned or not) that match the one you're trying to get. I wish that the books on the list were well enough aligned with MY tastes that there were seven on there I wanted -- hopefully you'll snag one (but not the one I want, please -- it's the only one I want, and you have six others to choose from :) ). Oct 9, 2008, 6:32pm (top)Message 17: loriephillipsI actually only requested one book. Mistress of Mellyn by Victoria Holt. I have quite a few of her books in my library, but not this one. A new edition of an old favorite would be nice and maybe I have a chance. It's been years and years since I last read it. They are nostalgia books for me as I read many of her books while still in high school. Oct 9, 2008, 6:41pm (top)Message 18: loraxJust an FYI, I noticed that the book I was interested in -- Waiting for Coyote's Call -- is only being made available as an e-book. So you won't actually get a physical copy of the book. That makes it sufficiently less attractive to me that I decided to unrequest it, to boost the chances for people who aren't turned off by ebooks, so I thought I'd post a heads-up. I'll just go buy the real book. Oct 9, 2008, 6:46pm (top)Message 19: bookcrushblogI also saw 7 I liked. Whoo! Oct 9, 2008, 7:08pm (top)Message 20: gwendolyndawsonlorax--You're doing a great job helping out the newbies with your useful information. LT should put you on the payroll! Oct 9, 2008, 7:42pm (top)Message 21: gwendolyndawsonBy the way, the odds are looking better this time. There's a book with 200 copies and several with 75 copies. Great job, Abby!! Oct 9, 2008, 7:50pm (top)Message 22: Jacey25Bitten has been in print before; in fact I own it already and highly reccomend it for those who are into the supernatural/ urban fantasy reads. Kelley Armstrong is a fantastic writer and I promise it's not like Any given doomsday it's everything that book should have been. LOL Outside of that I haven't bid yet because so many sound interesting but I want to narrow it down more this time to ones I can't live without. I seem to get the books that I thought were kinda interesting but this time I am mourning loss of the book that I REALLY wanted and thinking that perhaps if I hadn't requested the one I recieved I would have gotten the one I REALLY wanted que sera. I know I am really lucky to have gotten one at all and besides the one I did win did look pretty interesting as well as being one of the most popular books last month. Free books are always a super surprise. Oct 9, 2008, 8:03pm (top)Message 23: GeorgiaDawnThere are some great books listed this time! Thanks, Abby! Oct 9, 2008, 8:36pm (top)Message 24: The_Book_QueenWow-- So many good ones this time! I feel almost guilty *I said ALMOST!* for requesting three of them: Evermore, Bitten, and Mistress of Mellyn. I REALLY want all three, but I know that I cannot get all of them,at least not through the ER. If I had a choice, I guess it would be Evermore, since it's a new title while the others are reprints that I can easily go out and buy right now. No matter what I get (if I get any, of course) I can promise that all three *well, two, Bitten was already on it* immediately went into my library on my 'want to read' list. :D Great job, Abby! Oct 9, 2008, 11:43pm (top)Message 25: elizabeth_s#16: Alas. Guess I'm not getting that Amish cookbook, then. Maybe next month. Oct 10, 2008, 12:09am (top)Message 26: Bitter_Grace#12> Thanks Abby! Oct 10, 2008, 8:11am (top)Message 27: abealy>13 The Uncommon Reader has just been released in paper. A wonderful little book. Oct 10, 2008, 9:13am (top)Message 28: infiniteletters27: I've had The Uncommon Reader in paperback for months now. Of course, it's a British copy, so maybe this is the American release. Oct 10, 2008, 9:21am (top)Message 29: BookmarqueThe Chrysalids has been around for ages as well. I have read it several times and quite like it. Oct 10, 2008, 9:27am (top)Message 30: CityLoveThere were some really good books in this batch. Cant wait! Oct 10, 2008, 9:49am (top)Message 31: benuathanasiaI can't believe what a varied selection it is this month! Even the most discerning reader should see at least one that piques their interest!!! Personally, since I'll read everything and anything, I checked off quite a few that seemed fantastic. Oct 10, 2008, 10:30am (top)Message 32: DeedledeeI went wild and requested a tonne of books. There are just so many good titles this month. Oct 10, 2008, 12:02pm (top)Message 33: jlelliottThere is a huge range this month. It is exciting to see The Jewel of Medina just because it has been so controversial - I'd love to read it for free ;o) Oct 10, 2008, 2:00pm (top)Message 34: lilisinI'll pass on these. See you guys next month. :) Oct 12, 2008, 8:20pm (top)Message 35: hannahj26This is the first time I've participated in this. There seems to be a lot of great things there on the list :) Is it always like that?! lol I don't expect to get any but it would be a wonderful surprise if I did. Like my birthday all over again. Oct 12, 2008, 9:39pm (top)Message 36: ggprofA nice selection - really wide-ranging this time. Oct 12, 2008, 10:17pm (top)Message 37: AquariusNatWOW ! I found nine titles that intrigued me ! Hopefully I'll be a match to one of my requests ! Oct 14, 2008, 7:01am (top)Message 38: veryanrequested Waiting for Coyote by Jerry Wilson Damewood Demons of the Past by Erin Durante Sorbonne Confidential by Laurel Zuckerman Trick and Treat - how 'healthy eating' is making us ill by Barry Groves Books I would like to request-but they are not available for germany :-( The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett Gladiatrix by Russell Whitfield Mistress of Mellyn by Victoria Holt The Gates of Trevalyan by Jacquelyn Cook The Amish Cook at Home: Simple Pleasures of Food, Family, and Faith by Lovina Eicher , Kevin Williams The Last Gifts: Creative Ways to Be with the Dying by Jillian Brasch Bitten by Kelley Armstrong Evermore by Alyson Noel Soldier's Heart by Elizabeth Samet Moving Your Aging Parents: Fulfilling Their Needs and Yours Before, During, and After the Move by Nancy Wesson The Jewel of Medina by Sherry Jones The Pre-nup by Beth Kendrick The Jewish Princess Cookbook by Georgie Tarn & Tracey Fine A Christmas Carol The Graphic Novel by Charles Dickens Broad Street by Christine Weiser Death of a Past Life by Robert N. Message edited by its author, Oct 15, 2008, 12:42pm. Nov 3, 2008, 10:07am (top)Message 40: LyzzyBeeUm... have I missed the announcement/ message about whether we've got the a book or not? I can't remember what the usual time lag was, maybe it seems like I've missed it because the window for requesting was longer this time? Nov 3, 2008, 10:11am (top)Message 41: DevourerOfBooks>40, It has only been about a week since the batch closed, if I had to guess I would say we'll hear between today and Wednesday. Nov 3, 2008, 12:28pm (top)Message 42: spoiledfornothingi don't know. i don't really think i will get any this month. but the last two times i did i get a book, i knew in the first week - the 8th and 5th of each month, so it is still early Message edited by its author, Nov 3, 2008, 12:30pm. Nov 3, 2008, 5:53pm (top)Message 43: mint910I think this is the most excited I have been so far! Eeeeee! Fingers crossed! Nov 3, 2008, 6:12pm (top)Message 44: The_Kat_CacheWhen I won an ER book, I was notified 6 days after the batch closed. It's now been 8 days since the October batch closed, so I can't help but think that it'll be any moment now. *fingers crossed* Nov 3, 2008, 7:10pm (top)Message 45: ajsomersetThe recent downtime and associated panic, meltdowns, hair-pulling and heavy drinking may have delayed the process somewhat. Nov 3, 2008, 11:18pm (top)Message 46: onyx95It has just barely been a week, I don't think there is a set time period that it takes. It takes as long as it takes, that being said, I want to know if I actually got anything this month. Nov 5, 2008, 9:30am (top)Message 47: momgeeyes, but consider that they closed selections on Oct 26th so that actually gave them 5 extra days! hopefully we will hear soon. Nov 5, 2008, 9:40am (top)Message 48: klarusuBut it was Election night and a little birdie told me Abby was colouring in maps ... maybe when the euphoria has died down on your side of the pond ....
