Dec 14, 2006, 12:41am (top)Message 1: honeybearrecords First MessageI just got done with "Footnote" by Boff from Chumbawamba and am starting "The Story Of Crass" by Gerard Berger. It's mostly research. But it's fun. I'm reading "Pretty in Punk: Girls' Gender Resistance in a Boys' Subculture". It's an academic work by (former?) punk Lauraine LeBlanc and I've just started. Message edited by its author, Feb 14, 2007, 10:27pm. i would be curious to learn what the conclusions of Pretty in Punk are. I note 8 people in this group have Beauty Myth -- you would do as well with Robin Lakoff and Rachel Scherr's (sp?) Face Value written 20 years before. I am afraid NW contributed almost nothing to the field -- some day i may do my own Accident of Beauty . . . LeBlanc? Is there a punk cagen? You know they do file down the bridges of those fiddles to bow three strings at once (which made it hard for me to follow on my free-tension one string. Seriously, humdao, if you are studying beauty and are a serious reader, i have an essay i'd like to bounce off of you. And, finally -- i am an author-publisher in search of people skilled in what Emerson called creative reading. Self-produced music is accepted today but books are another story. Plese peek at my paraverse.org (at least newbooks and the paraversing pages, i guess) and see if anything looks good for indie . . . Or, seeing that "What are you reading?" ended after 2 entries, do the indie folk not read, in which case i am barkiung up the wrong tree? Manifesta: Young Women, feminism, and the future, by Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards. I've just started it and it's pretty good so far, it's just starting to get into the basics. I started to read Pretty in Punk and have yet to finish it. Heya,
I'm currently reading "Helter Skelter". I really want to read "The Story of Crass" but alas the library does not hold it... nor any of the libraries in the province. I just noticed how old these messages are! Oh well! Perhaps you guys are still making trips on here.. Debug test: your member name is: |
