I read about this challenge in another thread and it seemed like a lot of fun.
I think I have decided on the following categories:
1) Vampires
2) Witches
3) Werewolves - complete
4) Demons
5) Dragons
6) Ghosts
7) Elves
8) Wizards
9) Misc creatures/Anthologies

Some fun dragon ones are the Aisling Grey series by Katie MacAlister. :)
I've never read Kelley Armstrong, but she's on my list, too! :)
I really like her books and the world she has created. I actually started her series on book 3
Dime Store magic and after reading
Bitten I'm glad I did. The book was good but it focuses only on the Weres since she had meant it to be a standalone novel.
3 down 78 more to go. I'm having a little trouble with finding books for my demon and ghost categories any suggestions?
Hey for your Demon category, check out
Jenna Black's Morgan Kingsley, Exorcist books. There's 3 so far, with a 4th coming out this year. I really enjoyed them and they play in Philly, my home city.
Thanks for the suggestion! The book store by my house has book one in stock so I'll pick it up :)
Woohoo one more down. Thanks jjones for the suggestions!
Added some titles to my list. I'm getting a lot closer to nine on some. Later today I plan to add my Wizard and Elf list up there.
Thank you for the suggestion! From the description and the reviews I read it looks like it will be quite good. I'll have to see if my local B&N has it when I am there later today. I still have Christmas gift cards burning a hole in my pocket :)
I was going to do a demon category, but I didn't have any books to start with! I loved Patricia Briggs's werewolf series (the first was Moon Called). I'm also trying Meg Cabot's The Mediator series as everyone seems to love them. So far there are 6 of those, which combined with some books by Charlaine Harris that I want to try out has my ghost section covered. I like some of the suggestions you were given, so I'll keep checking your post to see what else you come up with!
(edited message since I initially put
Patricia Briggs as the author for a series that was done by Charlaine Harris. Yikes, I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing!)

Yeah my Demon category was giving me a little trouble at first but people have been very helpful with the suggestions. I'm glad to see you enjoyed Patricia's series I haven't started them yet. I loved the Mediator series I read them last year.
#15 - i like how you NEVER comment in my section! jerk ;)
#16 - There are demons in the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison (and other things) - the main character is a witch though. Also, the Dante Valentine series by Lilith Saintcrow is all about demons. :) They tend to be more about fighting/violence (which I like). Both have tought smart women as their main characters. :)
Thanks for the suggestions cflorente. I have actually read all the Rachel Morgan books out so far. But the next one is due out the end of next month I cant wait :)
I just finished Elisha's Bones. It might be a little bit of a stretch for this challenge but I figure bones that bring the dead back to life is definitely not in the realm of normal. Overall an interesting story I just didn't care for the writing style.
Finished
Cry Wolf and loved it! I actually cried a little at one part.
Here are a couple recommendations for your ghost and demon catagories.
Julie Kenner has a demon series out right now.
It starts with
Carpe Demon and I think there are 3 or 4 more in that series. Next
Victoria Laurie has an awesome paranormal mystery series that involves ghosts the 1st book is
What's a Ghoul to Do?. There are currently only 2 books in this series but a 3rd is coming out later this year. I hope this was helpful and enjoy the books if you decided to try them out. Happy Reading!
Updated my list a little. I'm actually getting a little burnt out on the paranormal so I took a break and read Gamer Girl last night.
finished
Tantalize and i have to say i was not a big fan :(
Gamer Girl sounds like a fun book - what is it about? :)
What are the Black Jewels books?
The Black Jewels was originally a trilogy but the seventh book is about to or has just come out :P It starts with
Daughter of the Blood Its very dark fantasy and not for the faint of heart, lost of violence related to sex and otherwise. The world is really complex by book two you should have the hang of it tho. I really do recommend it. The prequel is a bit of an easier read
The invisible RingGamer Girl was cute, its about a girl whos parents recently got divorced and she has to move to a new school. She gets into this online game and also writes her own manga for a competition all while dealing with bullies and love.
I Loved the Black Jewel it was easily my favorite Fantasy series of all time. You should definately check them out cflorente!
Thanks Kat32 :)
Both of those (the black jewel series and the gamer girl book) sound great! what category would black jewel fall under? exciting!
I would say to use them as the witch category. That's what I did with Dreams Made Flesh since the Blood are "Craft" users.
I agree they could go under witches.
I read
Wake last night. It was very interesting and I totally recommend it.
Fade was even better than Wake I loved it.
I cant believe I'm already 15 books in. I just finished
Evermore it was very good.
Ha that's so funny I just finished Evermore too! I loved it, I thought it was a very interesting spin on how the immortals came to be. I can't wait for the next one in the series!
I'm so excited! I can't wait to get Fade! I should just order it from Border's... :)
Had to take a hiatus from books because of work but I think I am back now and making good progress with 2 more books down this weekend :)
One more down, and I only have to finish 2 book to have my Werewolf category done :)
loving the Dresden books!
Werewolf category is done! I closed it out last night with
Bone Crossed not my favorite of the Mercy Thompson series but I still enjoyed it.
That's how I felt about Bone Crossed!
I'm glad I decided to read
Living Dead in Dallas I hated the first book in the series but this one was much better and kept me interested.
You're much more open minded than I am! Usually if I hate a book I'm not likely to read another by that same author, nonetheless another one of the same series.
I started the Sookie series by reading the third one and I'm glad I did! I've read all but the most recent release (don't buy hardback because I'm too cheap!) a couple of times. My book club decided to do the first in the series for this next month. I tried warning them that the first one wasn't that good, the second was okay, but starting with the third book, they really pick up! I'm glad that you decided to give the series another shot by going to the next book. Hopefully you end up loving the series!
I may have to try it again then as I ddin't really like
dead until dark either, I have read a few of the shorts that have come up in the anthologies. Maybe it's worth the effort to try again.
Ames - i tried warning them, too! lol.
About 2 years ago I just happened to see the sookie books on sale - buy one get one free. So I bought the first FOUR books. I'm glad I did because the character development got better (and so did the plot).
Have you tried Jennifer Scales books by MaryJanice Davidson? I have not yet read them, but they are about a half were dragon. Could be good for your dragon category.
2 more down. I feel so behind on this.
That's what long weekends are made for -- catching up on your reading.
lol too true. I got one more knocked out last night.
Woo Vampires are complete!
one more and i'll have wizards done! slowly but surely making up for lost time.
