Feb 8, 2009, 2:09pm (top)Message 1: LadyVioletThe last lot of books i bought was possibly when i got Necropolis and Bloodlust & Initiation from 'Smiths (which is pretty naff for buying books most of the time) or it could have been when i bought Betrayed, A GaTB and The Twilight Watch. I honestly can't remember which i bought first which is further proof for my addiction. I think in total i bought 7 books last month and i have actually read them all (bar one which im still reading at the moment). What books have you bought lately? and have you got any books which you bought ages ago and *still* haven't read? (i know i have) Feb 9, 2009, 3:51am (top)Message 2: JessicaLouise23Well I orderd 3 more books of the black dagger brotherhood series the other day off amazon and they should be here by Wednesday :) As for the books that still haven't been read I'm sooo bad for that. Here's what I do I'll buy a bunch of books all toghether read a few that I want to read the most first and there normally part of a series. So then I'll get addicted to that series and buy all the other books and read them leaving the books I brought with the first batch untouched until I'm done, but by that time I've already found a load of other books I want to read so then read them after. I've had The Book thief, The Time Traveler's Wife and various other books sitting on my shelf for months... Feb 9, 2009, 10:32am (top)Message 3: LadyVioletAh i started reading the Book thief a little while back , got three chapters in put it down one night then picked up a different book the next night and never got back round to reading it *note to self read the book thief* I have read The Time traveller's wife though and it was awesome so i recommend you read it... as soon as you've finished with your It girl books, the BDB books AND Betrayed hahaha Feb 9, 2009, 2:56pm (top)Message 4: JessicaLouise23Oh I will get around to it eventually as soon as i'm done with around 30 more books haha! Or I may go back to it sooner it all depends where my urges take me... Feb 22, 2009, 9:39am (top)Message 5: LadyVioletOh i must list my newest purchases!! right... But today i found it :D Wolf Speaker by the ever awesome Tamora Pierce Now all of my Tortall quartets match *insane giggling* yes i am that fanatical. Feb 23, 2009, 3:40pm (top)Message 8: JessicaLouise23woah! Whats happening with Smiths lately? they've been coming out tops! Feb 23, 2009, 4:34pm (top)Message 9: LadyVioletI know its mental!! i keep finding all these wonderful books that i can't find in Waterstones although in general Smiths does fail a *lot* my local branch is tiny and the teen section is pathetic so i have to drive myself either to Stafford or Hanley to get a waterstones *grumbles* Feb 24, 2009, 5:36am (top)Message 10: JessicaLouise23The smiths by me is the same theres only a very small teenage section, the borders one is slightly better although not much but my waterstones is fab it has a fairly large section almost as big as a regular adults Feb 24, 2009, 1:35pm (top)Message 11: jenrylee2004I just got a book I have never heard of until I came to this website. It is The Wind Done Gone by Alice Randall. It is sort of a re-telling of Gone with the Wind but it is told through a young black girl's eyes. Feb 25, 2009, 5:02am (top)Message 12: JessicaLouise23Argh I have brought yet more books! Mar 2, 2009, 5:36am (top)Message 17: LadyViolet*blushes* i couldn't help it the books made me do it!!! they lured me in with all their prettyness and robbed me blind!! :( i need a restraining order from waterstones methinks.. Mar 2, 2009, 9:02am (top)Message 18: JessicaLouise23*pats rach on the shoulder* It's ok hon weve all had them sort of weeks right guys? *murmurs of agreement* Damn books luring us in the with their covers and there 3 for 2 deals! I was just thinking at the end of each week why dont we all post how many books weve brought how many books weve read like a real support group and then we can support those who have had a bad week with their addiction *coughs Rachel* haha! Mar 2, 2009, 11:56am (top)Message 19: LadyVioletooo that sounds like a good idea that will depend on the fact i can remember how many books i've bought in a given week hehe - although frankly if i've got any sense (which past experience has shown that i don't) i will refrain from buying *any* more books until i've cleared the backlog of 43 books which are on my To-be-Read list. How long that will take me is anybodies guess.. Mar 2, 2009, 2:26pm (top)Message 20: JessicaLouise23I bet we'll still have some of those books waiting to be read still when were like 30 Rach coz we'll just keep finding more and more books to buy...ahh its never ending! I'm going to try and remember so I can stare my addictions right in the face and then maybe I'll understand why everyone thinks I have issues... Mar 2, 2009, 3:18pm (top)Message 21: LadyVioletAh tis true :( Frankly i think the reason i keep buying and reading books is to avoid facing my responsibilities to my schoolwork in case i mess up and disappoint people although its fairly obvious that it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy if i don't do something about it. Dang it i am a daft person. *beats brain* YOU.WILL.WORK.PROPERLY!!! Mar 3, 2009, 6:19am (top)Message 22: JessicaLouise23Hehe! I know what you mean I definitely use reading to escape my responsibilities Mar 10, 2009, 5:06pm (top)Message 23: LadyVioletAw crap just bought some more books! Darn my friend who wanted that book off amazon which just *had* to be under the limit for free shipping so i just *had* to buy those two extra books!! just bought: Lord of Misrule to feed my morganville addiction Blue Bloods cos it looked interesting and its another vamp book. Can't think if i've bought anything else recently - i don't think so cos i've been trying hard to be good but i just failed :( Mar 10, 2009, 6:51pm (top)Message 24: JimThomsonJust got back from DAEDALUS DISCOUNT BOOKS & MUSIC in Baltimore with three books: 'THE TOMB OF TUT.ANKH.AMEN; the Search, Discovery and Clearance of the Antechamber'. This is a reprint of the 1923 work by Howard Carter, who directed the expedition. It includes photos of tomb artifacts after restoration. 'ENGINEERING THE PYRAMIDS' by Dick Parry, in which a modern Engineer examines ways to build a huge pyramid using forty-five century old technology. 'A PASSAGE TO SWORD BEACH, Minesweeping in the Royal Navy' by Brendan A. Maher. The Allied Fleet for the invasion of Normandy in June of 1944 numbered over two thousand ships. They required a lot of space and all of them, especially the Landing Craft, had to be safe from mines laid by the Germans. A single mine could mean the loss of thousands of tons of supplies and weapons, or hundreds of men. The rule was simple; "No minesweepers; No Invasion. No Invasion; Lose the War." Sounds easy? It's not. It all had to be done at the last minute, in the dark, without lights or radio communication and without navigation aids or GPS, with the constant danger of being detected and alerting the shore batteries, who would fire star shells, and of thus losing the advantage of surprise for the Invasion. Mar 11, 2009, 7:22am (top)Message 25: JessicaLouise23Ahh Rach I want to read blue bloods as well let me know if its any good although thats not surprising I want to read all vamp books! Ok so far this week I brought hunted by P.C Cast Tempted an it girl book and on Friday I'm planning to buy... The staff would have no chance of curing our addiction we'd team up and do whatever it took to get our fix! *manic laughter* you will never beat us! *twitch in the eye* Mar 11, 2009, 5:02pm (top)Message 28: LadyVioletlol yea we'd be smuggling in books with anybody we got to visit and stashing them behind holes in the wall covered with posters (a la Shawshank Redemption- have you seen that film? it's awesome sorry random thought) *manic laughter* mwa hahahahaha ... *looks around nervously* AHHH!!! I orderd ... The Truth About Forever by sarah Dessen Guitar Girl by Sarra Manning Stray by Rachel Vincent City of Bones by Cassandra Clare and Blue Bloods because after doing some research on it it sounds like a sort of gossip girl vamp book so I had to buy it! So all in all that cost me just under £25 which i didnt think was too bad so this week my grand total spent on books is £87 *faints* You go on without my Rach! Take your books and run girl! I'm handing myself in *walks towards the men in white coats* Mar 24, 2009, 3:44pm (top)Message 30: LadyVioletah forgot to list what books snuck home from Coventry in my handbag A Certain Slant of Light and Memoirs of a teenage amnesiac I have already read both of them and i highly recommend them :D Mar 25, 2009, 7:30am (top)Message 31: JessicaLouise23Oh yeah and I need to add parasite positive I only brought one book though! Thats sooo good for me! Mar 25, 2009, 7:57am (top)Message 32: irishwasherwomanA few months ago I started counting up the books that I've bought but never read. Totally embarassing! (I found two books that my book group is reading, so that's making the tiniest ding in the backlog.) I've got books everywhere and now I have a Kindle which makes it much too easy to buy more books. But, so far I've been good. I've got one book that I'm "actively" reading and another that I've hardly touched. Then there are the books that I've brought home from the library!!! Mar 26, 2009, 7:14am (top)Message 33: JessicaLouise23Ahh well I've just ordered frostbite and shadow kiss off amazon...I *had* to because there next in the series I'm reading! ALTHOUGH (here is my awesome excuse) What i bought was Vampire Beach: High Stakes and Hunted by Alex Duval and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I was astonished at the Alex Duval find since Amazon "says" that it isn't out until june!! so when i saw it i just couldn't pass up the opportunity! Oooh that sounds like a bargain Rach! *beams at everyones new book purchases and does happy dance* May 20, 2009, 5:43pm (top)Message 83: katelisimI've heard only good things about hunger games and was super surprised and excited to find it at the used store so soon.... *joins in happy dance* LadyViolet, I assume your somewhere in England with the whole 2 -Pounds, right?- don't have it on my keyboard .... anyway, I've always wondered the exchange rate for US dollars, do you know? May 21, 2009, 3:47pm (top)Message 84: LadyViolet>83 yup both Jess and I are from england so any squealing over the cheapness of books by us will be related in pounds. Well from what the radio said this afternoon it said the exchange rate was something like $1.5 to the £ which is pretty bad compared to what it was a couple of years ago when it was nearly $2 to a £. crikey i sound like *such* a geek knowing that - it's my own fault for listening to classic fm in the car on the way home, i can probably tell what the FTSE was at when it closed if i remembered hard enough lol May 21, 2009, 7:43pm (top)Message 85: katelisimThat's not nearly as geeky as some of the things I know.... And, I'm glad someone listens to the radio... I can't much take it, repeats and nothing but highly publicized mass market around me :( May 24, 2009, 3:59pm (top)Message 86: LadyVioletoh dear... this is *not* good. I just ordered 3 books off amazon when i really only desperately wanted one- i didn't really want to pay for postage so i bought 2 other books to get the total up enough for free postage. *sigh* i may get flayed alive by parentals now but i'm hoping i can be sneaky enough to get the package when no one else is in and keep it well hidden for a week or two and then pretend i ordered it in the middle of june. Bought in fit of madness Pagan's Crusade - there was only 2 copies left and i *really* wanted it!!! Wicked Lovely Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark side argh i definitely need locking up *rocks crazily* May 25, 2009, 12:12pm (top)Message 87: katelisimAhh, the Wicked Lovely series is really good :) May 25, 2009, 1:06pm (top)Message 88: LadyVioletYea it does look good that's why i bought it, i had hoped to get Evernight by Claudia Gray but Amazon UK had the impertinence to say it would now take between 1 to 3 weeks to ship it *grr* why can't they just keep a load constantly in stock ? May 25, 2009, 2:05pm (top)Message 89: katelisimAll to vex us avid readers... May 25, 2009, 3:02pm (top)Message 90: LadyVioletah yes that must be their intent for sure ! dang and blast them!! May 31, 2009, 6:18pm (top)Message 96: LadyVioletyea we need a Waterstones salesperson as our confession priest!! (no offence to any catholics who may read this) hehe i've got a hilarious mental image of the almighty Stones in B'ham as our cathedral with the confession box on the top floor and a looooong line of people winding round the staircases with books in their hands waiting to confess their latest purchase *giggles at image* (again no offence to any religious people who may read this) Jun 1, 2009, 1:45pm (top)Message 97: JessicaLouise23Rofl! Hahaha! ahh that mental image is hilarious! speaking of confession boxes Rach has a confession to make! *shoves Rach into box to confess sins to stones salesperson and runs off manically laughing* Jun 1, 2009, 2:13pm (top)Message 98: katelisim*Drags self in after others and warily peers at box* I think that thing may gain power from our addiction, come alive and attack us all. I will stay outside of the box for now :P Bought these last week, maybe? And I know I'm forgetting a few. Elephants on Acid The 13th Reality And sadly, I will be making my way dangerously close to a book store today, which if history says anything, I won't be able to resist entrance and inevitably purchase. Jun 1, 2009, 2:56pm (top)Message 99: LadyViolet*is shoved into confession box by jess* oof! ah what are friends for if not to remind us of our weaknesses ? :P I *was* going to pop in anyway so the shoving may have not been entirely necessary. Today I was terribly sinful and bought two new books and borrowed a third from the library. Ink Exchange Take a Chance on Me and At First Sight That is all I have to confess... for now ;) *steps out of confession box* Jun 2, 2009, 1:41pm (top)Message 100: JessicaLouise23Hehe dont mind me I was just glad other people had things to confess seems everyone knows im the regular in the box! :( and alas here I am again to confess. *steps into box* Hello again Bill I have come to yet again confess my sins this morning on amazon I brought Strange Angels and wings *runs out of box before I get scolded for buying yet more books* Jun 2, 2009, 5:51pm (top)Message 101: LadyVioletour salesclerk/confession priest is called Bill?? awesome lol I did very well today when i went into town at lunch with my friend, yes we both may have bought a lovely looking dress in Ethel austin (for all its usually pretty naff got two pretty decent things for only £16!) but i didn't buy ANY books :D Aren't you proud of me?? Jun 3, 2009, 1:40pm (top)Message 102: JessicaLouise23Yes Bill, and he also has a helper called Bert who's incredibly scared of us addicts and is terrified when Bill has time off work and he has to cover single handedly! Wow that really is an achievement *applauds Rach* Jun 3, 2009, 4:15pm (top)Message 103: LadyVioletoh poor Bert!! we'll have to work hard to make him feel at home - maybe if we recruit the tea lady Brenda to help?? (we gotta have a tea lady- i can't live without my tri-daily cups of tea :P) Jun 4, 2009, 10:06am (top)Message 104: katelisimI sinned again... We will convert them all! *evil laughter* Kate- Vampire academy is oh so amazing im sure you’ll love it! My bf has read a few Neal Shusterman books and has really enjoyed them im thinking of borrowing one called unwind off him I hear hes a bit like another scott westerfeld. Jun 5, 2009, 8:02pm (top)Message 107: katelisimI haven't read anything by him, just happened to stumble upon it at HPB and thought it looked interesting. If he's anything like Scott Westerfeld, I will definitely like, since he's one of my faves and all :) *Sneakily slides book up tbr list, disregarding the rest Jun 7, 2009, 4:25pm (top)Message 108: JessicaLouise23Hehe let me know what you think when your done reading it! Jun 7, 2009, 4:34pm (top)Message 109: katelisimDefinitely! Only 90 more pages left in Rebel Angels.... And I did good today. I had to go to the bank today, which is right by the bookstore. Amazingly, I resisted temptation and didn't go in! Jun 7, 2009, 4:58pm (top)Message 110: JessicaLouise23Oooh well done! How are you finding rebel angels now? Wow really!? Jesh that is good. Jun 8, 2009, 2:23pm (top)Message 111: katelisimI just finished it! So the first 1/3 is a bust and bore city, imo, but then it picks up with the realm stuff and is pretty okay. The last few pages are 'wrap up' and feel a little forced in tying things up nicely, but I guess that's okay. Now, I'm at the library, which is near my fave store, Half Priced Books(Do you guys have those in England?)... so I don't think I will fare as well as yesterday, even though I'm bringing books back from the library Jun 8, 2009, 3:22pm (top)Message 112: LadyVioletNo we don't have the variety of book shops that you do in America (tisn't fair :( we have addictions too!!) I adore the numerous Borders, Waldenbooks and Booksamillion that i've been to over the years in Florida although i've never found a Half Price books store ... shame really cos then i could have brought back even *more* books than i did :P Jun 9, 2009, 1:20am (top)Message 113: MidnightTearsI bought Dark Prince by Christine Feehan last week and have already finished the book. Now I'm waiting for Dark Desire to arrive. Jun 9, 2009, 1:01pm (top)Message 114: JessicaLouise23Yeah I wish we had more bookstores over here we only have 3 chain stores, borders, waterstones and whsmith then ive just got a few charity shops and second hand shops and thats it :| our book shops are nowhere near as big as yours either snot fair :( P.S I also had an arrival from amazon this morning consisting off second helpings charmed thirds fourth comings perfect fifths into the wild and The Demon's Lexicon I think you'll like The Demon's Lexicon Bert if you dont tell the others about my recent purchases I'll let you borrow it ;) Jun 9, 2009, 2:14pm (top)Message 115: LadyViolet*sees JEss sneaking out of confession box* busted sunshine!!! Jun 9, 2009, 10:23pm (top)Message 116: MidnightTearsGot the phone call today! Dark Desire is in! Picking it up tomorrow! Can't wait!! Jun 10, 2009, 7:28pm (top)Message 117: katelisimWe do have quite a few used stores here. I think HPB is mostly in the midwest and parts of the south(I'm pretty sure Texas has a few), but that is so very sad :( I don't think I'd be able to get as many books as I do if they had to be bought new or offline. From Library(I resisted HPB's call) The Unseen 3: Blood Brothers by Richie Cusick The Unseen 4: Sin and Salvation by Richie Cusick Freaks: Alive on the Inside by Annette Curtis Klause Jun 12, 2009, 1:32pm (top)Message 118: JessicaLouise23Rach- Yeah they are there pretty big books though like the size of a hardback but in paperback... Kate- I know I really envy you Americans! Seriously English bookstores suck ass. I dont think ive brought any more books since my last post...*checks* No I havent! :D Jun 12, 2009, 4:40pm (top)Message 119: LadyViolet*peeks head into confession box* Hello?? Bill are you here?? Oh and you brought lock and key? yay for getting another sarah dessen book! I havent read it yet but if its like her other stuff itll be good. Well Ive still not brought any books yay! By my next post we shall see... Jun 14, 2009, 4:01pm (top)Message 125: LadyVioletI liked CoB better than i'd thought i would although the plot twist at the end kinda arses up the chemistry between Clary and Jace (IMO) i am gonna read the other two - hopefully with the number of other books that i have to read by the time i want to read City of Glass it will be out over here. Lock and Key looked pretty good from the first few pages i read... ooo should i start that tonight?? tick tock, tick tock .... that is the sound of the time counting down until you crack :P Jun 15, 2009, 12:40pm (top)Message 126: JessicaLouise23Oooh did you start lock and key in the end? Yeah I think im going to crack tomorrow, seems I plan to go to stones and buy IE and FE... Jun 15, 2009, 1:38pm (top)Message 127: LadyVioletnah i re-read the first bit of CoB for lols - i will read it soon though *jumps back into the confession box* Oh! hey Bert I take it Bill has mondays off then? Bert:*awkward silence* Me: anywho! Did it again and spent *more* money on books but to be fair one of my purchases was an undeniable gem. I got Just Listen for only £1.50! and also Fragile Eternity since i really wanted to finish reading that series :D So that's all for now but i'll probably see you again soon Bye!! *Rach skips out of confession box* *Bert remains sat there in stunned silence* :P Jun 16, 2009, 3:12pm (top)Message 128: katelisimFragile Eternity will not be the end, thankfully... you'll understand when you finish reading it. I've had CoB on my shelf for a couple of months now, just haven't had the spark to read it yet. I haven't bought anything since my lapse, but Bill or Bert will see me soon as I'm about halfway through the first Night Angel Trilogy book... and I will *NEED* the other ones. And they are all over 650 pages long, but this one is oh so good. Assassins that use magic, love it :) Jun 16, 2009, 5:06pm (top)Message 129: LadyVioletah right *twitch* dang i need to read it!! Assassins you say?? and magic? heck i'm there! now where can i find such books? *sprints to the Zon* Jun 16, 2009, 5:12pm (top)Message 130: LadyViolet*runs back into BAA* OMG i am going to *have* to buy those books!! i can get all 3 for £15.28 (which is pretty darn good) and they look like something i'd be very interested in!! ARGH DANG IT!! my TBR pile just keep growing!!! Jun 17, 2009, 11:59am (top)Message 131: katelisimOh man, yes... Assassins with magic, and lies, and Sa'kage--which is pretty much mafia/yakooza like, and tries for the throne. I finished it last night and it is now one of my faves, so glad I bought that on a whim(pretty cover) :) And since I *WILL* be buying them later. . . Shadow's Edge Beyond the Shadows Jun 17, 2009, 12:58pm (top)Message 132: JessicaLouise23Oooh I looked these up and they do sound really good im going to add them to my wishlist! *walks into confession box* me: Oh crap its you Bill! I NEEDED them I tell you!!! Bill: Ok take a deep breath calm down. Now what did you buy just those books? me: well erm no I also brought along with ink exchange and fragile eternity, princess academy and the it girl adored bye Bill! *runs out of confession box* Bill: Jess? Jess!? *sighs* mwa ha ha ha! :D Jun 17, 2009, 2:32pm (top)Message 133: LadyVioletWell i gave in yet again to my sinful nature and went totally overboard , although my excuse is that i had to do my post-exam amazon splurge a bit ahead of time due to certain books being few in stock so thats what i'm sticking to :P Kate i often fall prey to a pretty cover, those dang publishers know so well how to swindle me out of my hard-earned cash lol *sees a note on the confession box door* "Out for dinner be back later" Oh what a shame i can't confess to my sins *evil grin* *runs away singing with glee* Jun 18, 2009, 2:10pm (top)Message 134: katelisimUsually I don't fall for the pretty cover.... but it was a dark clad assassin with pretty magic purple stuff flowing off of him, on white background--coupled with the description, I couldn't resist. At least it was in my favor :) *Leaves post-it note for Bill on box* Dear Bill- I sinned. In addition to the rest of the Night Angel Trilogy, I found Skulduggery Pleasant at HPB. Sorry-I'd say it won't happen again, but we both know that's a lie. -Katie Jun 18, 2009, 6:37pm (top)Message 135: LadyVioletOh i'm terrible for falling for any book that is halfway decent looking - i'm such a child in how i react to pretty colours lol. hehe boy do we know it's a lie :P Jun 19, 2009, 1:36pm (top)Message 136: JessicaLouise23*Bill wonders down hall to confession box and sees pile of notes from book addicts admitting to their recent purchases* Bill: So when the cats away the mice will play huh? Bert! Bert! Where are you? *Bert meekly appears from around corner* Bert: Yes boss? Bill: Where have you been? I told you to be on duty of the confession box while I had dinner. Bert: erm well I was reading sir. Bill: Reading? *sighs* Look around you Bert, look at these addicts weak to their additions, you must be strong Bert, you must not be lured in by the pretty covers and the recommendations, now get in the box and get some work done! Bert: yes sir *steps into box* *Jess walks down hall and into confession box* Jess: Oh hey Bert I brought some more books! I ordered off amazon sea change, the chosen one, its not you its me, princess Ben, nobody's princess, the season and Sarah Dessens new book along for the ride. See ya later Bert! *hops off stool and strolls away while Bert remains inside shaking with envy and the urge to run off and read* Jun 19, 2009, 4:16pm (top)Message 137: LadyVioletgood grief jess! when you fall off the wagon you do it in style eh? lol well i'm *still* waiting for my waterstones package to arrive and i haven't had an email saying that my amazon order has been shipped yet *sad face* *walks past the confession box waving at Bert whose sat with his nose in a book* Jun 20, 2009, 2:32pm (top)Message 138: katelisimWow, 7, and you thought my 5 was bad ;) When this thread gets too long, which we all know it will become, we should call the new one something like 'Bill and Bert's Confessional' or something of the s.ort Jun 21, 2009, 5:56pm (top)Message 139: LadyViolethehe you thought 7 was bad just wait til i come back here with the TEN i bought off amazon last week :P ah yes i think once we get past 150 maybe we'll upgrade to a new thread - "Bill and Bert's Confessional" is an excellent name :D I'm trying my best at the moment to avoid buying any new books considering my uber splurge last week. Hopefully i'll stick to it for at least a few weeks lol Jun 22, 2009, 1:22pm (top)Message 140: JessicaLouise23Bill and Bert's Confessional is a great idea! I think we should re-vamp all threads in BAA make it more fitting to our little cathedral skit. We could have the what are you reading thread and the reading challenge in the BAA meeting room with refreshments such as tea, biscuits, cakes and sandwiches provided by Brenda and at the start of Bill and Berts confessional maybe have a little profile on Bill and Bert such as. Bill cathedral manager and confessional priest of BAA, despises any form of weakness and as he calls them ‘‘airy fairy stories’’ and wants to turn book addicts into miserable people with no imagination. Bert, Bills assistant manager and confessional priest in training. Berts a very timid fellow who has been drilled in his training that books are bad and book addicts are highly crazed people. He was there for very frightened of us addicts at first but has recently discovered the pleasures of a good novel and spends a lot of time reading when he should be working to Bills distaste. Haha we should have one for Brenda, we don’t see much of Brenda what’s she like? Jun 24, 2009, 9:10am (top)Message 141: LadyVioletHmm well Brenda can't actually read as much as she wants to since her eyesight has gone all off-kilter but she does love her audio books. She sympathises with us addicts and is willing to provide all the caffeine we need to keep up our reading habits. She also knows secrets about Bill which she may divulge if properly persuaded *knowing smile* Ah yes now i remember why i'm back in here. I never got around to confessing to my uber Zon splurge. *Steps into confession box* Me: Bill? You there? *muffled sounds of snoring from the other booth* Me: BILL!!! WAKE UP!! Bill: Wha-? who's there? *massive yawn* Me: It's Rachel , Bill why are you asleep in the confession box?? Bill: erm... no reason... just resting a little... *cough* Me: ook. Anyhow I have to confess to my worst sinning since I started coming here. Bill: *resigned sigh* Go on.. Me: well... last week I bought 10 books off the Zon and they arrived yesterday, I've already read two of them and I'm sure it won't take me very long to get through the rest of them. Bill: TEN!!?! what on earth possessed you?? Me: I'm sorry I couldn't help myself!! Here's what i bought : Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings, Evernight, Stargazer, The Goose Girl, The Book of a thousand days, THe Way of the shadows, The Truth about Forever, City of Ashes and The count of Monte Cristo. *deep breath* That's all I intend to buy for the next few weeks now. Bill: *shocked silence* Me: I know, go say a thousand "hail Marcuses" and try to behave myself. Bill: *inarticulate spluttering* Me: Well bye now Bill, I'm gonna go beg some biscuits off Brenda *Leaves the Confession box* *Bill sits there gaping for several hours* Jun 24, 2009, 12:22pm (top)Message 142: JessicaLouise23Ooooh really secrets about Bill? What kinda secrets? *mooches down to tea room to find Brenda* Jun 24, 2009, 4:33pm (top)Message 143: katelisimI definitely want in on these secrets. I'm hoping we find out all about Bill's not-so-holy pre-ordained life ;) Jun 24, 2009, 4:58pm (top)Message 144: LadyViolethehe wouldn't it be soo hilariously ironic if we found out he was *worse* than us earlier in life :P Jun 24, 2009, 5:11pm (top)Message 145: katelisimYes! What better way to make ourselves feel better about our behaviour than to make a priest with a dodgy past? Can't wait til we find out about some illegitimate children and other Jerry Springer-esque behaviours :D Jun 24, 2009, 5:17pm (top)Message 146: LadyViolet*evil cackle* oh it would make us feel soo much better - it'll prove that No one is completely sin-free :P although to be fair to him he is doing an admirable job of atoning for his previous sins by trying to keep us lot in line (key word is *trying* here ;) ) Jun 26, 2009, 11:52pm (top)Message 147: katelisim*sigh* Jurassic Park Bridge to Terabithia The Wish List The Plague And Then There Were None and a Ray Bradbury collection that I can't remember the name of ........granted the lot only cost me $2 from 3 different garage sales, does that count as some redemption? Jun 28, 2009, 11:39am (top)Message 148: LadyViolethmm i think you have redeemed yourself because while buying books is frowned upon, buying them dirt-cheap is actively rewarded ;) I also fall into this category somewhat since i ordered 2 new books off amazon who decided it wanted to love me again and got the books i really wanted back in stock for £2.99 and £4.94 a piece. Considering how both of them should cost £6.99 each i feel it was worth breaking my amnesty for such bargains which may only be around for a limited time. They've been dispatched and should hopefully arrive tomorrow or tuesday. Pagan in Exile and Pagan's Vows *happy dance* Jun 29, 2009, 1:26pm (top)Message 149: katelisim"Bill Bill Bill!" *jumping excitedly into box "I've had a breakthrough of sorts. I had 3 books in my hand at HPB and was on my way to checkout, when, I put one back! How unbelievable is that! I mean I still got the other two, The Player of Games and Lonely Werewolf Girl, but I put one back!" *Skips delightedly away Jun 30, 2009, 12:30pm (top)Message 150: JessicaLouise23*steps into confession box* Jess: Oh hi Bill *giggles* Bill: erm hi? Are you ok? Jess: Oh fine fine *followed by more giggles* I have a confession to make just a moment ago I purchased off amazon storm glass, Going Too Far and the forest of hands and teeth, no erm harry potter though im afraid *cough, cough* Bill: *nervous* Harry Potter? Jess: *giggles* yes neither did I go to this very cathedral dressed up as harry potter at midnight scar and all Bill: what!? Who told you this!? Jess: Bye Bill! *skips out of confession box and off to find Kate and Rach to show them photo of Bill at harry potter opening night dressed as HP himself that Brenda dug out from the attic mwa ha ha!* Jun 30, 2009, 12:45pm (top)Message 151: LadyVioletWhat?!? gimme that picture!! *grabs pic off Jess* OMG LOL!! *manic laughter* I would never have pegged Bill as being a closet Potterite! :P Brenda is an angel! Right Since this thread is now over 150 i shall make a second thread and post the link in here lest we forget. Jun 30, 2009, 1:16pm (top)Message 152: JessicaLouise23Hehe I know! *skips past confession box humming harry potter theme tune* yay a new thread! P.s If I dont reply randomly at some point or post something odd its because my computer is having one of its melt downs on me and keeps freezing then crashing and not clicking on things when im clicking on them its took me about a year to send this but hopefully it shall send... And I was just given a lovely copy of Angels & Insects as a gift. Oct 26, 2009, 2:55pm (top)Message 156: Kat32Hi All! I'm new to this group, but by the sounds of things this is group for me! Here are a few books that I bought on my lastest book buying binge: Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception - Maggie Stiefvater Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie - Maggie Stiefvater Hush Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick Friday Night Bites - Chloe Neill Hex in High Heels - Linda Wisdom I'm sure there are more but these are the ones I can remember at the moment. Oct 26, 2009, 5:05pm (top)Message 157: LadyVioletMy word i nearly fell out of my chair when I saw someone new had posted here! Hi Kat welcome to the BAA, home to all those hopeless book addicts who just need to own up to their weakness ;) It's been pretty quiet around here for the last couple of months as my fellow Addict-in-Chief has been MIA due to computer malfunctions but I'm hoping she'll make it back here soon. I read another of Maggie Stiefvater's books last week - Shiver which was fantastic. Have you started the Faerie books yet? are they any good as they might be something I'd fancy taking a look at. Oct 26, 2009, 5:10pm (top)Message 158: katelisimI miss buying books :( . . . I went and got broke :( . . . I'm in a state of withdrawal :( Oct 26, 2009, 5:22pm (top)Message 159: LadyVioletI did sort of acquire 6 new books earlier this month although that was me taking advantage of having £35 worth of amazon gift vouchers - being a student is terrible for your book addiction as you *know* you're not supposed to buy books even if you really want to. :( But on the bright side not being able to buy new books should help us to reduce those teetering TBR piles all over the place ;) Oct 26, 2009, 5:30pm (top)Message 160: katelisimVery true... if I ever get caught up on my text book readings. Oct 26, 2009, 5:35pm (top)Message 161: LadyVioletAh yes i have several reading lists which i'm supposed to get through this semester but since they consist almost entirely of fusty-looking books on tedious subjects i'm not much inclined to crack on with them. *sigh* it'll come back to haunt me soon enough. Oct 26, 2009, 6:24pm (top)Message 162: Kat32#157 - I'm reading Lament right now and so far it's good. I think Shiver is kinda spoiling it for me because I just loved Shiver and so far this one is just good, but i'm only about 80 pages in so it's bound to get better! Ah right thanks - hopefully it will work its way up to awesome as I know Maggie is capable of writing brilliantly if Shiver is anything to go by.
