Okay, I have a reason for asking this, but I can't tell you what it is yet...you will find out in the next month or two, I promise. In the meantime, I need all of you to help.
Across the Harry Potter series, what do you think are the top ten most important/defining moments?
What are your top ten favorite Harry Potter moments?
10. The Potter's death- the beginning of the story
9. Harry's discovery of the wizarding world.
8. Harry becoming friends with Ron, Hermione
7. Ron and Hermione's relationship- future couple
6. Harry and Ginny's relationship- future couple
5. Harry meeting Sirius, Remus- his parents' best friends and the closest thing to his actual parents
4. Sirius' death- the loss of his godfather
3. Harry learning about the Horcruxes
2. Harry learning the prophecy- he learns his destiny
1. The final battle and its outcome- Harry fulfills his destiny and brings peace to the wizarding world.
These are in no particular order, Ani and I have been tossing this back and forth for an hour now and this is what we came up with:
Harry finds out he's a wizard
Harry meets Draco Malfoy for the first time.
Harry's first trip to the Burrow.
Harry discovers that Sirius is NOT a murderer.
When Harry does not kill Peter Pettigrew.
When Snape reveals his motives at the end.
When Harry sets Dobby free.
When Harry willingly goes to his death.
When Harry sees his family in the Mirror of Erised.
When Voldemort uses Harry's blood.
These are my personal favorites, so maybe not the most weighty or defining moments in terms of plot, but ones that stick with me. (I tried not to read everyone else's first, so it would be truly just my opinion.) At first, I had whole scenes or chapters, but then tried to distill it down to one "moment" -- the line or image that was the most pivotal:
- When Hermione takes responsibility for the fight with the troll, cementing her friendship with Harry and Ron.
- When Fawkes' tears heal Harry's wounds in the Chamber of Secrets
- When Harry realizes, in the Shrieking Shack, that Sirius is not the man responsible for his parents' death.
- When Harry and Voldemort's wands lock in the graveyard and Harry sees the images of his parents.
- When Sirius passes through the veil.
- Harry and Ginny's first kiss.
- When, as they are leaving the cave after finding the locket, Dumbledore says "I am not worried, Harry . . . I am with you." I love how this echoes/reverses the line from earlier in the book: "You are with me."
- When Fleur insists on caring for Bill in the hospital ward, and we discover that Tonks has been in love with Lupin all this time.
- "Look . . . at . . . me. . . ." (This was a close tie with the scene from Snape's memories, when he is talking to Dumbledore about his unrequited love for Lily: "After all this time?" "Always." -- I thought about including each as separate points, but they're really two different expressions of the same sentiment.)
- When Harry walks through the Forbidden Forest to meet Voldemort, surrounded by his beloved dead.
I probably could more easily come up with my ten favorite moments from each book! I tried to include my favorite from each book, but it was hard leaving some things out!
1- When Harry first discovers the wizarding world.
2- When Harry's, Ron's, and Hermione's friendship is sealed fighting the troll.
3- When Harry sees his family in the Mirror.
4- When Harry discovers Sirius isn't responsible for the death of his parents.
5- When Harry, Ginny, Hermione, Neville, Ron, and Luna fight the Deatheathers in the MoM (I think this shows us how closely bonded they are.)
6- When Sirius dies.
7- When Harry sees how much him and Voldemort share (in DD's office, in DD's first memory.)
8- When Hedwig dies (another family member that dies.)
9- When Harry willingly walks into the Forest and sees all the loved ones he's lost.
10- At the end, when Harry waves to his son on the train and touches his scar, thinking how it hadn't hurt for 19 years.
1-never read the book
2-never read the book
3-never read the book
4-never read the book
5-never read the book
6-never read the book
7-never read the book
8-never read the book
9-never read the book
10-never read the book
You've never read any of the HP books puppet? You should, I think you'd like them!!!! :oD
Yea, a lot of people say that i should. Maybe that will be my next book.
Difficult question....let's see...
1.-When Harry after the death of Sirius has a conversation with Luna and they talk about the lost of someone they love (Luna about her mother and Harry about Sirius).
2.-The moment Harry discusses the prophecy with Professor Dumbledore and Dumbledore explains what a great thing it is that after all Harry has been through he still has the ability to love.
3.-When Harry is having the conversation with Dumbledore in King Cross/limbo thing and Dumbledore asks Harry for forgiveness.
4.-When Harry finds out that Sirius is his godfather.
5.-When Molly says that Harry was as good as one of his sons in OotP.
6.-Sirius and Dumbledore's death scenes.
7.-The part where Harry is walking to confront Voldemort and he is surrounded by Sirius, Lupin, Lily and James.
8.-The moment Dobby dies and the last words he says are "Harry Potter" (I like it because they were also the first words he spoke to them)
9.-Harry and Ginny's kiss.
10.-Ron and Hermione's kiss.
You guys rock. You've all covered everything I was going to. I'm sooo intrigued by #1 tho!!!! What can it mean???!!!
cat and I are attempting a list in no particular order:
-When Harry responds to Dumbledore "Voldemort put a bit of himself in me?"
-When Harry hides the Half Blood Prince's textbook in the RoR.
-When Harry gets the Cloak of Invisibility
-When Ron and Harry save Hermione from the troll.
-When Harry saves Ginny from Tom Riddle.
-When Harry makes a Patronus.
-When Neville gets house points from Dumbledore because "it takes a brave man to stand up to his enemies, but an even braver one to stand up to his friends."
-When Harry notices the parallels between Peter Pettigrew and Neville and feels guilty.
-When Professor Trelawney has her first vision in front of Harry.
-The scene with the Mirror of Erised.
okay in no apparent order:
Harry setting loose the boa constrictor
hagrid tells Harry he's a wizard
Prof Lockhart arranges a VALENTINES DAY CELEBRATION
fawkes comes to help harry
harry and hermione rescue buckbeak and Sirius
Ron's apology to Harry after the first task
harry and cedric agree to share the championship
harry causes aunt marge to blow up
harry goes to sirius house the first time
harry asks Dumbledore if its real or all in his head
Thanks, this gives me a place to start...but please don't think you can't add more if you haven't posted already. *smiles mysteriously*
I think my favorite moments and the most important moments would have to be two separate lists. Is that allowed? Here's my list of important moments:
1. Harry's becoming part of the wizarding world
2. The Harry/Ron/Hermione friendship
3. Harry understanding that our choices define us
4. Learning the truth about Sirius and getting to know him
5. Harry facing Voldemort upon his rebirth and surviving
6. Sirius' death and Harry feeling responsible for it
7. Learning about Horcruxes
8. Harry being in charge, making mistakes, and trying again
9. Learning the truth about Snape
10. Defeating Voldemort
13 bib, Thanks. It was hard to come up with only 10. Here are some more:
11. "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!"- best line in the entire series
12. Harry learning the truth about Snape
13. Harry learning the truth about Sirius
14. Dumbledore's death
15. The epilogue- Harry finally gets what he wants
16. When Harry looks into the Mirror of Erised
17. Ron saving Harry's life after his encounter with the Silver Doe and the lake in the forrest.
18. Godric's Hollow- Harry finally visits the place where it began
19. When the dementor attacks Dudley and Harry gets blamed for it
20. The Pensive scene in Goblet of Fire when Harry discovers the murderers of Frank and Allice Longbottom and some more back story.
21. Neville killing Nagini
22. Harry walking into the Forrest in Deathly Hallows with his parents, Sirius, and Remus
23. The Dumbledore-Voldemort battle in the MoM in Order of the Phoenix- the two greatest wizards dueling.
24. Dumbledore's back story
Hope this helps. I might add some more if I think of them.
It's difficult to name the top defining moments and yet also favorite moments as these aren't all the same for me. I want to think about it and am not reading anyone's answers so it won't alter my own.
I have to say, I am ever so curious, Bib! I'm eager to find out about your mystery. :)
Ooh! Well then, you have my favorites . . . here are the moments that I think are the most pivotal:
- Harry, the Boy Who Lived, is left with the Dursleys after the death of his parents
- Harry learns that he is a wizard
- Harry is Sorted into Gryffindor house
- Harry becomes friends with Ron and Hermione
- Harry destroys Riddle's diary: the first horcrux
- Voldemort returns to a human form in the graveyard
- Voldemort attempts to possess Harry in the Ministry, and fails
- Dumbledore dies
- Harry receives Snape's memories and learns what he must do.
- Harry defeats Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts
Thank you! That will be fun. I'm about to leave for work and will think of some today to post when I get back. :)
#1- What is it? Tell me! Tell me!!!!!!!!!!
You know that this is going to drive me crazy, don't you?
RON AND HERMINOE KISS?!
thanks a lot
Wait.. Harry and Ginny kiss tooo?!
o come on
I'm sorry puppet, two years after the last book comes out, you can't expect us to be spoiler free on a site for people who love the Harry Potter books.
#20: Mwa ha ha ha ha!
Top Ten Most Important/Defining Moments
Top Favorite Harry Potter Moments
-Harry finds out he is a wizard.
-He is sorted into Gryffindor.
-Harry/Ginny/andHermionie/Ron relationships unfold.
-Harry stabes the diary.
-He finds out the truth of Sirius.
-The graveyard scene. (Especially when Cedric dies because I think that takes away a lot of innocence that Harry had, seeing a person die right infront of his eyes0
-The whole journey in deathly Hallows.
-His fight scene at the end with Voldy.
"Look ... at me"
"You're with me"/"I'm with you"
Dumbledore's office, book 5
Harry's first day at Hogwarts, all the attention he gets and his uncertainty about it
Voldemort's posession of Harry in MoM book 5
The graveyard, book 4, when Harry chooses to die fighting
The forrest, book 7, when Harry chooses to die
The 7 Potters and the way Harry didn't want everyone to risk themselves for him
Spinner's End, seeing Snape play his bad guy side
Mrs Weasley hugging Harry in the Hospital Wing, end of book 4, as Harry realizes he's never been hugged like that -- as parent to child
That's 10, but there were a couple more that were rather tied, so here are the closest runners up:
Dumbledore's office book 4 (was that in DD's office, come to think of it? Anyway, when Harry relates what happened to DD and Sirius)
Lupin holding Harry back after Sirius passes through the veil.
The Shrieking Shack, book 3, as Sirius and Lupin piece together the truth
*hands jp a pretty handkerchief*
I can't believe it's still March. I've been dying for us to find out what you're up to, bib!
*throws a snickers bar at bib*
If you're going to snicker you might as well snicker the right way. Don't tell suge, though. She'll be jealous. ;)
Bib, I meant to mention that I didn't know if this was still relevant. If not, it was still fun to think about favorite moments. :)
I'm choosing not to acknowledge the mysteriousness so as not to give Bib the satisfaction. :P~
Actually, I love surprises. The possibilities are so exciting!
"Look at me" is probably my very favorite moment in all 7 books, and part of me doesn't want to see that scene in the movie version. Yes, Alan Rickman is a god and all that, but once I see how he reads the line, my own internal "line reading" will probably be wiped out.
That's what kind of bugs me about the movies.
-Hermione setting the birds on Ron
-"Are you a wizard or not?!" (both times)
-Weasley's fireworks & swamp
-Luna's ceiling (I tear up thinking about it)
-"NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!"
#34 -- I know just what you mean. Oddly enough, though I'm, ahem, quite fond of Rickman, his version of Snape hasn't superseded the one in my head. The Harry in my head does look almost entirely like Dan, but I've managed to keep my version of Hermione. Not sure about Ron.
1-Harry finds out that he's a wizard and the famous boy who lived
2-Harry mets the Weasley's
3-Harry "talks" with Tom Riddle through the diary
4-Harry finds out about Sirius innocence
5-Harry's name is revealed by the globet of fire
7-Harry get to know about his father and mother's past
8-Harry finds out the thruth behind Dumbledore's death(Snape's innocence)
9-Ron and Hermione's kiss
10-The final battle
I'm not sure if they're in order of matter! There's so many remarcable moments,so i tried to choose one from each book...Probably i'll put also Harry and Ginny's kiss and Fred and George's death...
OMG What is wrong with me??!!! Sorry, that was a terrible mistake! I think is because i can't stand their separation!
I totally know what you mean. I still haven't forgiven JKR for that one. Or Hedwig, either.
Yes,i'll never understand Fred's death. And Hedwig's was also very sad and remarcable to me,i've always loved her and think of her as a important character...
Okay. Am I the only one who can't narrow it down to less that 20? I am seriously having a hard time with this. Several are tied.
I can understand fred's death, from JKR's point of view, at least one of the Weasleys had to die in this conflict, It couldn't be either Bill or Charlie as they were basically minor characters. percy would have been too corny. that left ron or one of the twins, if Ron had died I think there would have been riots in the streets. She could have killed off both Twins but leaving one to grieve created more pathos.
hedwig was just a heartstopper. it reminded the reader that the death eaters were ruthless. Moodys deathe also demonstres that no matter how good a wizard you are a well placed spell can kill you
I have to say, of all the deaths, and they were ALL heartbreaking, especially Hedwig's, the one that just devastated me was Dobby. I just sat on my bed and cried and cried.
I think I will always feel privileged that in my lifetime I had the chance to get to know this story these amazing characters as they were written for us. Nobody else will ever have the opportunity that we did to experience it as it happened.
Also, polly, I agree that a Weasley had to die. But that doesn't mean I'm not mad about it!
After seeing how BSG wimped out in not killing off any major characters without first either marginalizing them or turning them "bad," I'm actually glad that JKR went for the big meaningful deaths. But they still suck.
This thread has still been on my mind. It took a lot to not ask any questions when I met with you and LG, bib. ;)
I find it best if I forget this thread exists. Then I don't wonder.
So why am I posting here, encouraging it to stay on top? Hmm.. Maybe I like the suspense after all.
K, you're a better person than I - I would have been all, *poke poke poke* what's it about, huh, huh? *poke poke poke*
#49 Good thing I forgot all about this thread, K, because I haven't got your self-control.
OK, now I want to know.
You know, I'm still having a hard time with coming up. Let's see if I can do my top moments in no particular order. Maybe then I can narrow them down.
*Harry discovering who he is
*How Harry is immediately taken in as part of the Weasly family (like someone said before, they keep proving it over and over again)
*Harry blowing up is Aunt, and the following events on the Knight Bus
*DD's death and funeral
*Snape's death and what is revealed through it
*Harry walking to his death
*The final battle
I'm not sure how I ended up with 10, but there they are. I'd have to do a series reread to take notes on all my favorites, but those are the ones I can remember as of right now.
See, I can't do that!
ROFL! Like I said, it was a real challenge. :)
Good thing then that I didn't mention it or pester Bib, huh? ;)
After rereading the first post I saw that I told you all it'd only be a month or two...two months ago. Oops! It's going to be at least another month, the upcoming holiday weekend will help speed things along though!
Okay, I'm up for pestering mandy on this topic. Sisters always know secrets, right? Who's for it? ;)
Wait, does that mean she does or doesn't know something? That wasn't helpful at all!
*Kirby dives for Mandy, but manages to miss her by slipping on some slime (at least we think it's slime, it' might be drool).*
*looks at Kirby confused*
What's going on? Are you ok? I wonder why there's drool on this thread...
Ohh this is amazing is like Lágrimas de Phoenix all over again!!
*grabs a chair and brings a big bowl of popcorn to see what happens on this thread*
*wonders quietly to herself if she used too much dog drool*
Well You're name is Kirby and well where you are is hard to explain, but you were about to leave...trust me ;)
*makes eye contact with polly, lefty, and Ron giving them the signal for the capture of Mandy*
*Polly attempting to look unintimaidating walks behind Mandy with a huge butterfly net held behind her back.....*
*noticing the fact that people are closing in on her, Mandy calls for Sgt. Pepper*
PEPPER ATTACK!!! GO GET 'EM!!!
*Polly pulls juicy steak out and throws it to distract Pepper.....*
Pepper NO! wait, sit.......Stay..........OK GO GET IT!!!
Teehee Look at her get that steak, silly little Puppy!
Wait. What are we doing? Why are we here? Who are you people!
*Kirby wanders off aimlessly towards the GD*
Wait. What are we doing? Why are we here? Who are you people!
*Kirby wanders off aimlessly towards the GD*
YOu're Kirby remember, I'm Mandy...Look at the pretty puppy...you like dogs, remember?
Kirby seems to have suffered from short term memory loss. She has no idea she's repeating herself.
I suggest we hit her on the head. That works in the cartoons.
*K approaches kirby carefully and wonders what to hit her with. Not a flying car, nor a whomping willow...Hmm...Oh! I wonder...*
*K raises her wand at kirby*
*peers at kirby, who has slid to the floor with a blank look on her face*
K, I said "hit her on the head," not "wipe whatever is left of her memory!"
Oh, no! I just thought it might reverse her memory loss. I couldn't find the exact spell.
Hi, kirby! How are you feeling?
*K helps polly become untangled from the net*
Does anyone think a simple repairo might do the job to fix kirby's memory? Or only for the damage I seem to have done so far?
Who are you guys? Where am I? What's this? *Kirby raises her wand and starts waving it around*
*K magically summons that happy memory htable that used to travel from thread to thread, has the table lie on it's side, and ducks behind it for cover.*
*foggi is momentarily distracted by the appearance of the table in the thread*
"Hey, isn't that the table from--"
*kirby's wand whacks foggi in the back of the head, and foggi falls face forward to the floor*
...Snape's birthday party. Fond memories....
*foggi's body is summoned to the safe side of the traveling table*
Kirby, that thing is dangerous! It can poke an eye out. Why don't you set it down?
*sparks continue to shoot from Kirby's wand*
*Suddenly a spark of green light comes from Kirby's wand and stuns Mandy. Mandy is no longer able to move.*
Wait. I remember you! You're Mandy and we're supposed to stop you. I'm not sure why, but we have to stop you. Are you an evil person?
*dramatic music in the background*
Actually Mandy is a cousin twice removed of the ex-stepfather of Voldemort's mother....da da dummmm
*K listens from behind the table while enjoying some popcorn with foggi*
*foggi, still face-down on the floor (though now behind the table) moans faintly*
*with difficulty, foggi moves her lips*
I think kirby accidentally did a full-body bind.
*K uses her wand to undo the body bind*
*whispers* Does anyone have a Weasley fake wand handy that we can swap kirby's with?
*foggi sits up, stretches, and takes a handful of popcorn*
You're welcome, foggi.
*K points to Mandy, standing next to Pepper* That's Mandy.
*flips quickly through The Standard Book of Spells, looking for something that will help kirby's memory*
Well, I just don't know. There was this girl we were all friends with named kirbyjack, and then she just disappeared. Suddenly there was a new person named kirbyowns claiming to be the same person, and we did all get to be friends with her, too. We don't see much of kirbyjack anymore, but every once in a while she comes back. We never see both kirby's at the same time but for all we know they very well could be two different people. ;)
Everyone knows that kirbyjack and kirbyowns are twins. But which one is the evil twin? That's what I'd like to know.
If they are both evil, that can only mean...
(dum dum DUMMMM)
They are actually triplets! Or quadruplets. And we haven't met the good triplet/quadruplet yet. Where are they hiding her/them?
Hey, you guys, we still don't know what bib's Master Plan is. Or whether it is Evil.
Maybe this IS her plan. Keep us all in suspense while she asks for top ten lists. That is pure evil.
She probably doesn't even need to know our top tens. She only asked as a lead in for her to let us know something mysterious was going on.
I'm beginning to remember Mandy. And now, there are apparently 3 of me to catch you now!
*All 3 Kirby's lung at Mandy. One is able to grab her ankle which sends Mandy sprawling on the floor.*
Quick guys! Let's tickle her for information.
(mandy passes out from laughing too hard)
(Pepper seeing her lady faint rushes over to Mandy to try and revive her, after a couple failed attempts, Pepper shoves her mouth into Mandy's pocket gathers up the dog treats then rushes off to find aunt bib to show her what she found)
I've never seen a dog try to give mouth to mouth before.
My favorite moment, although it's not terribly significant, is (at the beginning of Prisoner, I think) when Uncle Vernon catches Harry listening to the news and asks him why he keeps doing it, and Harry explains to him that it changes every day.
*turns head quickly*
Oh! . . . Oh, it's just MrA. Don't do that! ;-)
Well, I believe I know what bib is hiding. It is obvious that she is collecting lists of Top Ten Moments in Harry Potter so that when she visits J.K. Rowling, bib can give her a list of favorite moments. This is why she won't be going with Mandy to Scotland! Because she'll be too busy visiting with JKR!
And she's not even taking us along!!!
How devious, bib. Don't think you can get away with it. We have caught on to you and your Top Ten Listing games!
Countdown subject to change if something goes horribly horribly wrong!
AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH! Isn't torture illegal in this day and age?
I do believe it is.
PEEVES! Give her h e double ladders for us.
(Love you, bib!)
It's not illegal to torture on Thursdays through Mondays on odd days when it has been raining for at least 10 days straight and if, in those 10 days you have had some chocolate while twirling clockwise and humming the latest Spring Standards tune. So I think we are well covered in this matter.
Chocolate? *wanders off to get chocolate*
Chocolate makes the wait go faster. :)
*subject to change if something goes wonderfully, wonderfully right...
Chocolate dipped strawberries! Yay!
*helps herself to several on a small handpainted dessert plate*
It means am I right. Fighting urge to put a ? at the end of the sentence.
I'm thinking maybe Lefty meant the question mark in #138? But now I want to end all of my sentences with question marks to signify an Australian accent?
You guys are hilarious?
When people here ask why I speak with a rising inflection, I will tell them I am Australian?
In Spanish we use two question marks...
¿Entonces somos doblemente Australianos? (So we are doubly Australians?)
I think if you were Spanish and Australian you would need three question marks.
Zero is the absence of a number no matter how many are placed behind another number. Right? ;)
#160: You are laughing with an Australian accent, cat! Let me try...LOL!!!!....darn it I can't :P
#167 -- What?!?!?! How?!?!?! Or does this have to do with something totally different, and this has just become the teasing thread? Maybe I should go start Lefty rumors on the rumor thread until you crack and reveal all! Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha . . .
I'll wait until Bib comes. I don't want to spoil anything for her.
Its REALLY exciting though.
That was a really good guess, JP. When I do make it to NY, you and I will have to have a sword fight in which we both begin with our right-hands.
(Okay, it's not going to be any fun until there are people around to play with and react, so the countdown is on hold until people start posting again...but as soon as someone (not related to me) is on the countdown is on fast forward....)j
2.....(the next one isn't coming until someone other than me posts here again...)
Jumping up and down *well imaging I would be jumping up and down if I could*.
Okay, this is what I've been working on since March. This one was a housewarming gift for Lefty, which she received today, making it possible for me to finally share...
Basically, I found this website around the same time I got some new cross-stitch software for my birthday. It allowed me to design the pattern myself and start sewing.
If any one is interested in seeing closeups of the individual squares, you can see them on my flickr page:
Finally, I'm willing to make smaller versions for anyone interested, just tell me the 4-6 pictures you want and pay for supplies and I'll have it to you ASAP (in the order in which they're requested!)
Why smaller and only 4-6? Because when a coworker asked me how long this took me, the math shocked me. Somewhere between 400 and 440 hours!
:D It's just gorgeous. Perfect!
The pictures show it off well! Is it your dad's new camera?
Keep in mind when looking at the individual squares that this x-stitch is "impressionistic" in nature, which means it's generally going to look better from further away. The detail in the closer shots, may be jarring. :)
#191: Yes, it's a really good camera. Plus, he's a very good amateur photographer. (My parents will probably be by soon, I know they've been as excited as I've been about this).
Wow!!! That's amazing, Bib! I'm torn between asking you to make a little one for me, and asking you to send me the patterns (I do cross-stitch some times, though I haven't had time for a major project like that in years. Still, small squares might be do-able. . . .)
(Edited to close parenthesis.)
I taught her everything I know. . . and in spite of it she does a great job. Bib did a beautiful family tree for us a while ago.
Nonetheless, I looked close too. You know how I love the details of fine work. Your stitchery is impeccable!
#190 -- I'll have to admit, I was wondering what could possibly be worth all of the teasing, but this definitely is. Like I said above, I've done some cross-stitch, so I know how much work went in to all of that!
The first counted cross stitch she did a long long time ago was a little peccable.
Oh! And I suppose I should say, I used everyone's "Top Tens" to choose the pictures I used. Lefty's in particular of course, although she came a bit late to the party! I basically averaged everyone's top ten's out and chose the 12 most popular. For instance, the troll represents the cementing of the HRH friendship...which most people had on their list. I also wanted to make sure I had at least one from each book, so although not many people had anything from CoS, the diary made the cut in it's importance as the first horcrux.
#200: LOL! Thanks mom!
#196: Whichever one you choose, I'm happy to oblige. You're not just limited to the pictures I chose either, I could send you patterns for anything on the linked site. Although, fair warning, the printed patterns can be difficult to read, I ended up doing it directly off my computer!
#199: Whew! One vote for "teasing okay"!
Sirius is the one I keep coming back to as my favorite, but ask me again in 5 minutes and it'll be something else.
Bib, you chose the pictures very well! I know I keep saying this, but it's perfect.
I loved the teasing! Surprises are great fun!
Sorry for responding to your thread late, Bib! In my defense, I didn't know you needed me to chime in and I wanted to make sure I had thought about my answers.
Oh, I also have to give props to my Aunt Lois who visited a few weeks ago and saw the work in progress. At the time I was planning to do the dividing squares in plain gold, but then she said "Why don't you do gold and red, Gryffindor colors?" and it was GENIUS! I don't think it would have been quite as good without that breakthrough!
#206: Luckily most of your Top Ten corresponded with the choices I'd already made. Plus, this way there's a little bit of all of us in it!
The red and gold is awesome. It makes it -- you guessed it -- perfect!
The teasing was fine for me, but I came on the thread late. I guess I missed it before. I read it today thinking that the secret would already be told, but it wasn't! Lol great surprise.
Bib, I liked the ones you chose...and how you chose them.
WOW! That is cool!
Sorry I wasn't on to accept your challenge Lefty. We had a nasty thunderstorm and I had to turn off the computer. *wonders if the class I took in stage combat 17 years ago will help me with my dueling...*
My last lesson was less than 10 years ago, so I'll pretend that puts me at an advantage. ;)
Thanks to all! I've been dying to show it to everyone for weeks now! And then this week felt like the mail was obnoxiously slow!
I have a favorite, but I hesitate to share...
Okay, my favorite is Harry in the Hall of Prophecy, and not just because it's out of my favorite book in the series. Mostly because when I was working it, I thought it was horrible (it looks really bad close up) and yet when you look at it from a distance, it's incredibly intricate.
I'd love to hear other people's favorites and the reasoning...
Oh gosh, that sounded really stuck up! I'll just remind myself that these are Mary Grand-Pre's drawings. All I did was put them on cloth.
That one has already been my favorite a couple of times today too! You really made the soft light glow.
Plus, the fifth book is my favorite and the whole prophecy thing with Harry -- being chosen, but choosing to fight not because of having been chosen, all the emotion at the end of the fifth book that the Hall of Prophecy pic reminds me of -- it's really a powerful square.
Wow, bib that looks awesome!! I love it! You have a great talent young lady, my mom used to do some cross stitching and I know how much work and effort it takes...and I give another vote for good teasing!!
ETA: My favorite one is the one with Harry looking at Lily, I loved the whole scene in the forest in the last book
hi everyone! Isn't my sister amazing! I got to see it before it was finished and was so excited then. I'm glad to see it completed! I think my favorite is Harry and Dumbledore on the cliff.
Well done, bib. I had fun with the teasing so it was totally worth it for me. ;)
I think my favorite is the bottom left corner -- the cave. The atmosphere is just perfect; I love how everything seems to be swirling.

#184 Ohhhh my goodness, bib!
That's so stunning! Amazing! This is really beautiful, bib. What a touching house warming gift!
Okay, can I tell you what I thought this was going to be about? Should I tease and not say? Heehee.
I feel the same way.
This isn't this first piece bib has deeply impressed us with. You've taught her extremely well. :)
Hmmm. I don't know if I can pick a favorite. I have to think about it.
I'd love to know what you thought it was going to be K!
Thanks to everyone again! And to anyone who wants me to do one, or wants a pattern, just send me a PM and we'll figure out the details.
I read all 200 posts! Again, very nice work Bib! Mandy, you are diabolical! I think the Hagrid one is my favorite. The perspective turned out very cool.
From the few hints that were dropped on other threads I thought all the mystery was about Bib's new position at work or something. Did that ever come about?
Still in process. It's been approved and now it's a matter of finding volunteers willing to do all the boring stuff I do at work. Of course they only need to do it a few hours a week, so it's not all bad. Next week I'm hoping to find time to put together a letter and maybe get the position out on a couple websites like volunteermatch.com
Gorgeous work, bib!!! I'm very impressed, both by your talent and the time you invested in this!
I had wondered if you were writing or even possibly reviewing something nonfiction, perchance on the subject of the Harry Potter books.
Still trying to pick a favorite. The cave one was automatically one of my favorites. You can even see the wind in it. I really love how well Lilly appears in another piece. You can just tell she's not supposed to be alive - I really feel that non-HP readers would know from looking at it, too.
This is making me want to reread the series, start to finish.
That does sound like something I'd do. :)
I'll be starting my HP reread sometime in the next week.
I have no idea why I'm getting back to this thread so tardily, but I have to chime in: wow, that's incredible. Stunning. Brilliant!
LOL! Thanks ejj! The offer still stands for people to have their very own smaller version...
