What series are people reading right now? I have been really into
The Hunger Games and am really looking forward to the sequal
Catching Fire, as well as Found and Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix, and also Gone and Hunger by
Michael Grant.
Does anyone else think it is really annoying how there is at least a year between the publication of books in most series? I feel like only something along the lines of
Harry Potter or
Twilight has a big enough of a fan base where the publishers can afford to wait that long without the fear of the reader losing interest. Any thoughts?
I don't think the wait between is in any way a marketing scheme.
I think people write the way they write. Some are lucky enough to find fans right away for an early book, but they still have to go through the same writing process for the next book and the next. The first book could easily have taken a year to write, but we didn't see it because we hadn't discovered the series yet.
The 2 series I'm reading are
House of Night and
Vampire Academy. I'm waiting for the next
Confessions of Georgia Nicolson. I have the latest
Princess Diaries from the library but haven't gotten around to reading it.
I know the wait can be really frustrating, but it does take some time to write a good book. What I've started doing is waiting until there are several books in a series before I start reading them -- that way I can pace myself and the wait isn't as long. There are so many good books out there just waiting to be read, so I try not to obsess.
Of course, I was in line with my wristband at midnight to buy
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I read until 6:30 in the morning, took a 2 hour nap, then got up and finished it. Then called my brother every hour, asking "have you finished it yet?" LOL!

I've just finished the four available books in Brandon Mull's
Fablehaven series; definitely recommend them to fantasy fans. I've also picked up the first three books in the
Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan and have recently started
Lamplighter, the sequel to
Foundling by D.M. Cornish.
I also recommend the
Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud - no lines, no waiting; the trilogy is fully published :)
The wait is hard! Whenever I go into a bookstore or have just finished a book in a series I always complain how the next book is never out soon enough. But then I remember that there's always someone that has to write the book and I exhausting writing essays is let alone a book. I would rather wait and have a great read than have an okay read now. But really a year is not that long and I can always delve into some new series. Earths Children by Jean M. Auel is one of my favorite series, and there was a fifteen year delay between the fourth and the 5th books!
I just finished reading Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce, and I anxiously await more of her work. I'm waiting on the next books in the Vampire Academy and Morganville Vampire series which I believe are coming out shortly. Hunger by Grant is also on my list. I really enjoyed Graceling, but I don't know to expect another in the series anytime soon.
I've recently finished
Flora's Dare, the second book in Ysabeau Wilce's "Flora" series. It's just out of this world! I didn't really that much care for the first book,
Flora Segunda, which was alright but nothing to write home about. But
Flora's Dare really does a neat job of tying together some of the threads in
Flora Segunda.
I'm also waiting on the next
Vampire Academy book along with with the
Cassandra Clare Immortal Instruments series (at least I think that's the name of the series).
Another series I think I'll probably be picking up the next book in is
Serena Robar's vampire books. It starts with
Braced 2 Bite.
The waiting isn't too bad. It takes time to write a decent book with good editing. It's better to take the time than to rush it IMHO.
The downside is that I tend to forget what is happening with a series if I wait too long between books and am not really big on re-reading unless I really love the book. For instance, I know I enjoyed reading
Skin Hunger last year and it had already been out for a while by the time I read it, but the sequel isn't due out until this fall (I think). It has been long enough now that I can't remember much about the book at all. That is part of the reason I do reviews, so I can remind myself at least something about the plot.

>5 Degara If you liked Graceling then i have good news for you. There's a prequel coming out this september called Fire it's set about 30 years before Graceling and there's one character you will recognise and probably wish you didn't *shudders* Plus Kristin Cashore is working on a sequel featuring Bitterblue as the main character.
I've got a list of next-in-series books thats almost ridiculous. with some books it is really hard to wait the numerous months until a new book comes out especially if it ended on a cliffhanger *grr Shadow Kiss and Lord of Misrule*
But i think it is good if the author doesn't rush the book out faster than normal because then the book might not be as good as it could be and that would be a terrible shame for the fans.
I just finished
The Warrior Heir by
Cinda Williams Chima and the second book in the series
The Wizard Heir is waiting for me at my local library. I enjoyed it, even though it's pretty standard young adult fantasy fare.
I'm currently reading
Starclimber by Kenneth Oppel. This is the third in the series that begins with
Airborn and continues with
Skybreaker. I really like this series. It's got it all-- science fiction, adventure, romance, mystery, and smart, snappy dialog.
I save the books up until they are a few released and then read them, but that tends to be books I know I will love, or are such a bargain that I can't resist.
There is a number of series that I have waited for the final book to come out for over 10 years
L.J. Smith being one of them. A year or two is a while to wait though, but I find it's a time when I seek out related series or books and read those instead.
I really enjoyed The Blue Blood Series. After the second, though I was a little disappointed. And it took really long for the next one to come out, then when it was released I was hoping for something BIG to happen.
I am currently reading
The good Ghouls Guide to Getting Even by
Julie Kenner it is about a girl who has been turned into a vampire by the school football captain - and she is not impressed. She wants revenge - trouble is she can't stake him because he 'made' her - so she needs to find out how to get revenge and maybe there is a chance that she can undo the whole vampire bit.
I read the LJ Smith books when I was in high school and loved them so much, now I am out of college and I am still waiting for the last nightworld book to be released. I have heard through the grapevine that it will be released soon, it is called Strange Fate, and I think it should be out within the year.
I just picked up
Larklight and its sequel
Starcross by Philip Reeve...I've heard good things so I'm excited to start them!

I've already finished
Magyk by
Angie Sage the first in a series. It is a young adult adventure book with wizards, witches, message rats, boggarts and dragons. I gave it an A and I am going to follow up the rest of the series.
#15
I LOVE the Septimus Heap books. Similar to Harry Potter, but lighter and funnier.
Sweep Series by
Cate Tiernan is really catching fire here at my library! Also I guess we're behind the times in just discovering LJ Smith but at least they are all published.I have to agree on the waiting forever for the next book I've almost gotten to the point where I'm not buying them till they are all out!
My brother's been following the Artemis Fowl books for years and I guess the interest in them is still there...
Another series that I loved was the Bartimaeus Trilogy (Jonathan Stroud), and the books came out once a year... I reread the previous books once a new one came out...
I just recently finished
Fragile Eternity after reading all three books within a 12 month period. I fear the wait for number four is going to be painful. Also, I'm also somewhat unsure what to do come the release of
Catching Fire (the sequel to
The Hunger Games) in September. Do I read it straight away or save it up until the third book is released? Apparently, it's supposed to end on a huge cliffhanger. Arrrgh! Decision, decision. I hate having to wait. :-(

I love a good series but find that I can't read them back to back. You need to give some time between installments to let the story digest.
My daughter discovered (Dragon Slippers) by Jessica Day George; first in a series of three. It was a good read with a good heroine, dragons, adventure and a little romance.
My favourite series of all time, hands down is Cornelia Funke's (Inkheart), (InkSpell) and (InkDeath).
Then there is Brian Jacques (Redwall), any Redwall
Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising Series
J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Series
(Eragon) started promising but it began to lose me by (Brsingr)
If we include graphic novels, I love the (Bones) and any (Asterix and Obelix)
And as a side note, I'm a published author labouring over an (adult) fantasy series (Fifth Sun: The Awakening). Book #1 took nearly ten years to write. I'm trying to write #2 in a year! Yikes! Nothing like a little challenge.....
