Previously, you could only Power Edit a page at a time (ie., no more than 100 books at a time).

I've added a feature to allow you to power-edit all the books in a given result set. So, you can do all your books, all the books that match a particular search, etc.

Minor point: Normally when you use Power Edit, after the edit it returns with all the previously-checked items checked again. Sometimes this takes a second.

This doesn't happen when you choose all books. The reason is mostly technical. I could do it, but I wonder whether maybe, when you make an all-books edit whether the default shouldn't be to return to no checked books. After all, the point of having the checks return is so that you can do multiple things to a set of books—so you don't "lose" what you had checked. That's less of a problem here insofar as you can just check "select all books" again. And Power Editing all your books unintentionally would be pretty nasty.

Minor note 2: You'll notice I've made some changes to the tabs. These include putting "add" and "remove" tags on one tab. And I've added a "collections" tab. If you're not in the Beta group, you'll see "Coming soon." Basically, because of the lame way tabs are implemented it was a lot of trouble to have the tab there if you were in the beta group, and not if you weren't. So, everyone else teased. I'm sort of sorry about that :)

Bug note: I also fixed a tag error that, I think, may have been responsible for many people's problems. Basically Power Editing tags starts out by taking the checked set and removing the books that are already tagged with all the tags you wanted to add. But this algorithm was counting books that were formerly tagged with those tags.* So, if you tagged something "hotdog," removed it and then added it back with Power Edit, it could get skipped.

*Tag data isn't deleted immediately; instead a "deleted" flag is set; it wasn't paying attention to the flag.

And if only it was working - at the moment clicking on the Power Edit button does nothing for me:( Firefox 3.0.10 - cookies and so on cleaned just in case...

Really? What browser are you on?

I may be changing it in a moment anyway—I'm moving things out of "cookies" into server-side storage.

Works just fine for me. I just found 62 books by tag, power-edited them into a newly created collection, added and then removed a tag and finally moved them back out of the collection. Smooth as silk.

>4 Yeah go on, break it now! :)

1740 books added to collection in under 2 minutes - snazzy!

Ha. Should be faster...

1740 books removed from a collection in 2:25 minutes - Honestly, Tim, I don't think that's too shabby. (It would have taken me a hell of a lot longer to do it 100 at a time - I know as I did 400 they old way a day or two ago and then got distracted.)

glad you got that "previously tagged as" bug fixed. it was giving me a ton of trouble. of course, this change came AFTER i finished reorganizing all my books...

but it's appreciated all the same.

Hooray. After waiting a year it's nice to finally have it fixed,

You think that was the source of your problems?

Sorry. I didn't "get" it. The code was stone-cold dumb, once I was looking carefully at it.

i mean, i think so. it was because i was waffling back and forth between organizing ideas. so, one day i wanted things labeled fiction, but the next i wanted them more specific so i deleted it. then i wanted fiction to be a collection, so i needed to retag everything fiction (in case collections does get wiped). but, at the time, it wouldn't let me, so i had to tag them all F and remember to go change it in tags.

Oooh this makes me happy! I wasn't really looking forward to Collection-ifying Jefferson's books 100 at a time :-) Thanks Tim!

Seems to be ok now - not quite sure what was wrong last night.

Great :) Thanks

I love this extension of Power Edit! I was just moaning to myself the other day about only being able to re-tag a large selection 100 books at a time. Thanks much!
