Haven't seen you for awhile! Well, anybody that catches JP's train of thought is at risk of disappearing for a while. I think I'll wait for the next train.. May 30, 2009, 11:09pm (top)Message 10: jugglingpaynescatbastet said I'm not supposed to tease MrA anymore. What's funny is I was thinking of adopting MrA and MsDonna because they are so nice. They could be my brother and sister-in-law. Or a brother-in-law and sister. Not as a brother and sister though, because that would be a little weird since they're married. Pros for having Donna as a sister: She nice and has my sense of humour. I could see us hanging out and chatting together like I do with my real life sister. And we could borrow clothes from each other. And I'm sure she wouldn't mind taking my youngest for the summer. Pros for having MrA as a brother: I could go back to teasing him, because that's what sisters do to brothers. Of course, brothers can beat up their little sisters when they get teased, but I figure it would take him a while to reach me since we're on opposite sides of the world and all... See these are the issues I deal with when the HE friends are married couples. It was much easier to adopt Kerian and suge, although I'm not sure if suge's my sister or my daughter now. And, compski is already my chat twin. *Assumes everyone has now disappeared for a while.* This will give me time to start adopting other HEers like foggi and bib, who only have siblings on. And to wonder how I would be related to polly and MEM. I guess it would be easiest if I make polly my sister, and that way I would be MEM's auntie...Ron will fit in on the Spanish side of my family... *Looks up. Notices everyone confused and staring.* Don't mind me. Carry on. May 30, 2009, 11:10pm (top)Message 11: jugglingpaynesOh hi Lefty! I almost forgot about you and Mindy! Thanks for reminding me. *jots down notes on the HE family tree I'm building.* May 30, 2009, 11:11pm (top)Message 12: lefty33In case you were wondering, this is a good example of why I'm waiting for the next train. :P~~ May 30, 2009, 11:47pm (top)Message 13: jugglingpaynes*makes note to send a separate train for lefty. Even though mom says we should share* May 31, 2009, 3:25am (top)Message 14: KerianHeehee. I must say because of your hair and eye coloring I instantly thought of my mother when I met you, jp. Choices, choices. Do I run after this train or wait for the next? ;) I miss you guys and LT so much right now! My computer doesn't like it. I ran everything I can think of with my virus protection stuff, because the computer was just fine until my relatives came over last weekend. Something to do with copyrights and such, I think. JP, really I'd be honored to be adopted just so long as I still get to keep my original family. I'll even take the same train as everyone else. May 31, 2009, 8:52pm (top)Message 20: jugglingpaynesWell of course you get to keep your real family! You don't think you're all going to live here do you? I forgot to mention this, and I thought it was really funny. Yesterday we were in Barnes & Noble and I happened to notice The Harry Potter Lexicon in the children's section! (interesting, it isn't touchstoning here) Anyway, after all the fuss and bother between Steve Vander Ark and JK Rowling, I was surprised to see it there. Then I noticed a loooooooong sentence at the bottom of the cover which was basically a disclaimer about how he was totally unauthorized and not associated with anyone or anything to do with Harry Potter. There was enough legalese on the cover to wallpaper a courtroom. LOL! Jun 4, 2009, 4:34pm (top)Message 52: jugglingpaynesThat's why you should always start in thought derailment. It doesn't even have to be a logical thought in here. Jun 7, 2009, 6:29pm (top)Message 62: jugglingpaynesI'm having a minor panic attack. It involves flashbacks as to why I don't do parties anymore. How do I politely go from "I'll see if I can do your party" to "No! No! Leave me alone and never contact me again!" Because just reading this woman's emails are freaking me out that this would be a big mistake. Jun 7, 2009, 7:27pm (top)Message 63: pollysmithOh dear! Now to teach myself to say no to someone... :o) Jun 7, 2009, 9:30pm (top)Message 65: lefty33You can do it, JP! I managed to say no to someone today. I was very proud of myself. I'm altering a wedding dress for someone I know and she asked if I would make a blusher for her too (the veil that goes in front, over your face). Tulle is such a pain to work with though and I'm really feeling my lack of free time lately so that was about the last thing I wanted to do. So I was able to say no! :) I think part of my problem is that I want to be able to do everything. I almost said yes just to prove I could make it. Yes, I have a problem. Jun 7, 2009, 9:49pm (top)Message 66: catbastet64- Dad also said that we should tell her that we're moving out of state and entering the Witness Protection Program. *shudder* I read the e-mails. What scared me the most is in the middle of going off on random topics she tells me "I think balloons might be cool with juggling; as long as you try to play with the kids and teach them." Excuse me? I entertain at parties, I don't teach workshops at parties. Especially an outdoor party of 5 year olds. There's this thing at parties. It's called a "sugar high." So I'm trying to do my report and presentation for later this week. I haven't gotten very far. Spent a lot of yesterday and this morning cleaning my room, going through stuff, and getting rid of stuff. I even went through my book shelves (since they were overflowing onto everything else). Packed up books I don't plan to reread any time soon, and wow do I have lots more room. Now my shelves are doubled (books in front of other books), but at least they're a little more organized. Jun 8, 2009, 10:14pm (top)Message 76: Espeon200Foggi says that you all think I don't love you anymore. I'm here to assure you that that is not the case. I've just been really busy lately and on top of all that I didn't have stable Internet access at work (it's a long story that is actually boring and quite depressing when it all comes down to it. I will not go on). Thankfully my Internet access at work has been restored, but now my laptop's cord has developed a disturbing quirk, namely it refuses to charge my laptop. It seems like lately every time I turn around there's another problem or concern around the corner, but I promise that I haven't forgotten all you wonderful HEers, and I hope to one day be able to completely return to the party. I'll try to bring some Ale-8-One, which is wonderful even though it's non-alcoholic. I'm also going to try and at least keep up with the game threads when I can, though I think I almost had a heart-attack when I saw the number of unread threads... this is what happens when I challenge you all to write stuff and then wander away like a troll who has just been placed under a memory charm. That said, I'm probably going to disappear into the mists of the "Interwebs" in the future. Some day soon, though, I hope to once again be on that marvelous train known as the Hogwarts Express. Update: He was by the Strand bookstore (a place suge knows and loves) when a gang of crazed teenage girl fans came running after him and his five (yes FIVE) bodyguards. Jun 20, 2009, 12:53am (top)Message 96: Kerian#94 foggi: Our local Half-Priced Books isn't a match for a really cool used bookstore, either. I would die for any bookstore to be in my city, of course - we have none. Something that used to kind of make up for these things was when there was a HPB, Borders, and B&N along a street in a city I used to take bus trips to just to go to the bookstores. I went there once a week. HPB moved to a different area, though, and going without having a used bookstore in the bunch isn't half as fun. #95 bib: You definitely have some cool used bookstores. Jun 23, 2009, 8:19am (top)Message 102: pollysmithI saw a commercial for HBP last night on TV! Jun 23, 2009, 9:06am (top)Message 103: biblioholic29#101: Very possible. He's having to be bleached again today because it wasn't white enough the first time. He's being pretty whiny about it, but bleach hurts, so I can't really blame him for that. The Phelps and Matthew Lewis aren't filming at the moment, so perhaps they are doing stuff at Malfoy Manor, though Emma hasn't said anything about it.... (No Dan or Rupert, I want Rupert to Tweet!) Jun 23, 2009, 9:59am (top)Message 104: lefty33If bleaching hurts, you'd think they could just let him wear a wig or something. Poor Jun 23, 2009, 1:34pm (top)Message 105: KerianI think of them all as kids still, too. My kid sister bleached her hair a week-in-a-half ago so she could dye her naturally dark hair a light brown. She didn't rinse it out well enough so part of her hair looks grey, even after dying it. ;) Jun 24, 2009, 8:21am (top)Message 106: compskibookTim and Sonya from LT are going to be at the ALA conference in Chicago. I wonder if anyone is going from HE to tell them hello and thanks for us? hmmm Jun 24, 2009, 9:27am (top)Message 107: biblioholic29Stephen Fry is filming Top Gear today. I love Twitter. He won't tell his laptime, but he did say he almost totalled the Reasonably Priced Car and they had to go to the back up. *sigh* You'll get to see it well before we do here, I think. Jun 24, 2009, 12:29pm (top)Message 112: LadyNI'll be sure to keep an eye out! Have you seen the episode they sceened here on Sunday yet, when they supposedly revealed The Stig? I'm not sure I believe it... Jun 24, 2009, 12:34pm (top)Message 113: biblioholic29No, we're currently getting reruns from series 10. Monday night's episode was the muscle cars on the Bonneville Flats. You know, when they came to America and were "not entertaining" but "purely documentary". ;) Jun 24, 2009, 12:37pm (top)Message 114: LadyNHa ha ha ha ha!! I love them :-) Sunday was the first in the new series here, and well up to standard. Apart from revealing who the Stig is. I really don't believe them. As you may have already gathered! Jun 24, 2009, 12:41pm (top)Message 115: biblioholic29Excellent! I imagine we'll start getting those episodes around September... That's the problem with BBC America, it takes so long to get the new stuff, but then I know you guys are just as far behind on American shows, so I guess it all evens out in the end. :) ETA: Just checked the special "American" Top Gear website and we're definitely getting reruns through at least mid-July. Jun 25, 2009, 8:18pm (top)Message 121: MEM828) I wonder what brought about the actual 'LibraryThing' idea. Since there are several of you over there, I'm going to ask that interested parties send me a message and I'll get back to you with details so we can perhaps do some meet ups! Does anyone read the comic strip Zits? It's about a teenage boy (I imagine it's Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes in his later years). Anyway, I'm really starting to identify with that strip. I found out today that my cousin had her baby. Last Saturday. My mother told my son over the phone on Sunday. At midnight that night, he told me she called. He didn't mention about the baby. When I asked if grandma had told him about my cousin's baby, he said yes. I guess babies aren't that important to 13 y.o. boys. *facepalm* Jun 30, 2009, 7:49pm (top)Message 130: pollysmithOh I love ZITS! Jun 30, 2009, 10:03pm (top)Message 131: compskibookI love it, too. I was just telling my brother Sunday about this strip that was exactly him as a teenager ![]() Jun 30, 2009, 10:14pm (top)Message 132: foggidawn#129 -- Oh my goodness, JP! That is exactly what Espy was like as a teenager. Sample conversation: Foggi: Espy, do you know where Mom went? Espy: I dunno. Foggi: Did she say when she would be back? Espy: Nope. *** Later *** Mom: I'm home! Foggi: Where were you? Mom: I went to the store to get milk and eggs . . . didn't Espy tell you? I told him to tell you I'd be back before 4:00. Teenage boy brain. *shakes head* And Zits did an homage to Calvin and Hobbs in one of their earlier strips -- wish I could find the strip! I agree that Jeremy is like a teenage Calvin! Jun 30, 2009, 10:23pm (top)Message 133: KerianMy family's very fond of that comic strip. They're always saying Jeremy is just like one of my sisters. In fact, the one compski posted sounds just like a conversation I regularly have with my youngest sister. Jun 30, 2009, 10:38pm (top)Message 135: jugglingpaynesDo you think it's a second child thing, foggi? You're older, right? Did Espy mumble too? Now I'm going to have to find that homage...*cracks knuckles* Jun 30, 2009, 11:21pm (top)Message 136: lefty33Yes, JP, I'll remind you in a few weeks. Foggi, I missed you. Jul 1, 2009, 4:33pm (top)Message 137: Mandy2I got an email from a friend who watches Pepper sometimes when we're out of town, inviting the hubby and me to fireworks on the 4th. So this started a chain of little chit chat emails between the 2 of us that ended with this LOL statement. (Pascal in their dog, FYI) "You know we found bones all over the house hidden in strange places the whole week after Pepper left. Pascal just kept bringing us stuff and we were like, where DID you get this and WHEN was Pepper upstairs behind the bookshelves!" That's my girl. :) Just wanted to share. Jul 1, 2009, 6:21pm (top)Message 138: compskibookLast night I watched Inkheart. I had very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I haven't read the book in a while (I am planning a reread now that I have seen it), but they seem to stick to the general gist of it. Great cast including Brenden Fraser, Andy Serkis, Paul Bettany, Helen Mirrem, and our own Professor Slughorn (aka Bridget's dad) Jim Broadbent. The only thing that bugged me was the girl was raised by her American father, but had an English accent. Jul 1, 2009, 6:46pm (top)Message 139: biblioholic29#137: She's so weird. Jul 1, 2009, 7:06pm (top)Message 140: jugglingpaynesHelp me! My newly teenage son has lost the ability to converse! He helped out at the Nature Center today. I came to pick him up. This was the conversation: Son: Why were you so late? (this was his second longest sentence) Me: I'm sorry, yoga ran late...why do you smell like flowers? Son: I don't know. I was working in dirt. (yes, that's the longest) Me: Are you OK? Son: Yes. Me: Are you sure? Son: Yes. Me: Were the other kids nice? Son: Yes. Me: (trying desperately here) Were they all girls? Son: Yes. Me: Were they all older than you? Son: Yes. At this point I gave up and turned on the radio... Jul 1, 2009, 9:29pm (top)Message 141: Kasongo#137 I think I am worried about Pepper in August!! Jul 1, 2009, 11:07pm (top)Message 143: jugglingpaynes#142: We already have the grunt and shrug, as well as the mumble. :o) I've decided to use this time to hone my deductive reasoning skills. For example, I figured out he was smelling like flowers because of a natural insect repellent. Me: Did Scott have you put on bug spray? Son: Yes. There were actually apologies for getting things off-track! Apparently we've now decided that derailed trains are either the way to go or impossible to avoid. Bib, I'm getting the idea now of what you have against the movie. Have you bought it yet? Since OotP is both of our favorite book, I was wondering what we saw differently in the movie that let me like it. I'm not through all the OotP discussions yet. (I couldn't hear well and thought he said "Want any help") Mailman: You must have a lot of books! me: Yes. It happens when you homeschool! Mailman: You know, I just got a Kindle. I later realized he was suggesting this as a storage solution. I laugh, because I can't imagine the Kindle replacing my books, just adding more unread virtual books to the pile. :o) Aug 19, 2009, 9:23pm (top)Message 223: lefty33lol, JP! What a great mailman. Actually, what happened was that I started the project in the spring, and did the difficult part: I moved the washer and dryer and refrigerator and painted behind them. There, I thought, now painting the rest of the room will be a piece of cake! On that point, I was wrong. I spent the rest of the summer being either too busy or too tired to tackle the rest of the project, but I decided that this weekend was the time to finish it. I actually think I'm almost done at this point -- I'm taking a break to let the second coat dry before I decide whether I need to go back to the store and get more paint, or whether that's enough. I also have one high corner above a cabinet that I will have to be creative about, unless I can get Espy to paint it for me this evening. Espy is not thrilled about my color choice: but I like it. Aug 29, 2009, 4:29pm (top)Message 248: foggidawnI think I liked it for the name mostly -- it's called "soft duckling" -- but it also matches the bits of yellow in my kitchen wallpaper, and since the laundry room is right off the kitchen, it's important that the colors work together. Cats have fangs, prowl at night, and like to sleep in a box. Ergo, vampires are cats. Dec 8, 2009, 9:06am (top)Message 361: lefty33Yay! Thanks, JP! Dec 9, 2009, 12:05am (top)Message 362: kirbyownsDo you know how hard it is not to buy the HBP DVD? Dec 9, 2009, 12:12am (top)Message 363: jugglingpaynesHow hard is it? I've been playing with Cleverbot. It's an AI. I was "singing" Bohemian Rhapsody with it. I said Inconceivable and it quoted Inigo's line. It knows that nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition... Way too addictive! Here's the link: http://www.cleverbot.com/ Dec 9, 2009, 12:37am (top)Message 364: KerianI'm getting the HBP dvd tomorrow. JP, that site is so weird! Dec 9, 2009, 10:48am (top)Message 365: kirbyowns#363: Really hard!!! Dec 9, 2009, 1:42pm (top)Message 366: lefty33Husband bought it for me!!!! :D He said I needed a present since I've had to work too much lately. He's the best!!! Dec 9, 2009, 2:11pm (top)Message 367: kirbyownsReading somewhere in the GD and found a mention of the liquid bookmark. Decided to look it up in google (where else?) and found this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/supp... I especially love the description at the bottom that says: Perfect gift for that girl you know who is obsessed with that series of books about vampires Yes, we know what series of books they are talking about. Dec 9, 2009, 3:00pm (top)Message 368: MrAndrewThose Lestat books? Dec 9, 2009, 6:47pm (top)Message 369: LadyN#368 - *schnarf!* Dec 9, 2009, 6:51pm (top)Message 370: pollysmithOMG! that cleverbot site is freaky! I am going to wait and see if anyone buys it for me for Christmas if not I'll buy it then. Dec 15, 2009, 10:22pm (top)Message 371: kirbyownsSo, Finn has this obsession with me going out the front door. He can't stand it if I go out it without him. Any other door and he's fine, but the front door he will start whining or barking. He will also look out the little window beside the door. Last night I was getting our small tree out of the storage building. When I was almost to the step the door opens and out comes Finn to greet me. No one else was around the door to open it for him. He pulled the handle right when the wind blew. Silly puppy. Dec 16, 2009, 7:47am (top)Message 372: pollysmithFinn, the Wonderdog!! Make him a cape! Wait....no cape! Dec 17, 2009, 5:19pm (top)Message 373: catbastetA mask! Definitely a mask! Dec 17, 2009, 5:35pm (top)Message 374: kirbyownsHe'd wear a mask, but probably not a cape. Dec 17, 2009, 7:26pm (top)Message 375: jugglingpaynesAll the better. Capes are dangerous. Dec 17, 2009, 7:58pm (top)Message 376: MrAndrewSo if 5pm "Eastern" is 2pm "Pacific", then why would the 4pm timezone be called "Central"? Surely 3:30pm would be more central. A 4pm zone should be called "Slightly East of Central". Dec 17, 2009, 7:59pm (top)Message 377: KerianRE #371: How cute. When my mom was growing up there was a dog down the street who could open the front door. He'd go out while his owner was working and return back in the house by the time the man got home. His neighbors swore for years that this was happening before the man caught his dog in the act. They got a chain link fence around their house, and that was the end of that. You have good reasoning, though! I like it. Dec 17, 2009, 9:42pm (top)Message 379: jugglingpaynesIsn't there also mountain? I never understood where mountain is. It must be very tiring being time. It's a 24 hour day. Dec 17, 2009, 10:09pm (top)Message 380: biblioholic29Yes there's mountain. Interestingly enough it's in the mountains (Rockies). Dec 17, 2009, 10:12pm (top)Message 381: MrAndrewlol. And you have to know when to speed up or slow down, depending on what speed you are travelling, the effects of gravity, and whether a meeting is really boring. "Mountain time" is really weird. It seems wrong to say something like "It's 11:23am mountain time". Don't mountain folk tell the time by the height of the sun, or the moss of trees, or something? Do they even have watches? "What time is it, Grizzly?" "Ah reckons it's time to eat us some possum, Zeke". Don't even get me started on "Pacific time". Do you know how many timezones the Pacific covers? I'm on the Pacific, for heaven's sake. /rant. Dec 18, 2009, 8:33am (top)Message 382: biblioholic29You're thinking of the Appalachian mountains. The Rockies are more like "Let's hit the slopes and then go check out a snooty film festival!" Except maybe for Utah. ;) Dec 18, 2009, 4:43pm (top)Message 383: MrAndrewso, Carlsbad NM is on "Mountain Time", and the Appalanchians are not. Makes perfect sense. Dec 18, 2009, 6:47pm (top)Message 384: MutombuAs people who grew up near the Rockies and Sierra Nevada would say, "The Appalachians are not really mountains, just big hills." Dec 23, 2009, 10:22am (top)Message 385: Mandy2I always assumed that the people at the gas station near me recognized me because I drive an Orange honda fit.
