ALL ABOOOOAAAARD!

Too late! Hahahahahahah!

*the train pulls away as several HEers run after it, dragging their baggage*

May 30, 2009, 6:46pm (top)Message 2: pollysmith

Polly manages to snag the rail of the caboose and holds her hand out to the next person!

May 30, 2009, 6:49pm (top)Message 3: compskibook

Compski grabs Polly's hand and then dangles her foot out for the next person.

May 30, 2009, 6:51pm (top)Message 4: jugglingpaynes

*JP watches as compski's bag pops open*

Just give a holler if you need help. :o)

May 30, 2009, 7:06pm (top)Message 5: pollysmith

Polly braces leg around railing and fumbles for wand *Accio, comski! Accio bag! Accio other HE'ers running for the train, she yells waving her wand forwardthen has to duck as people, bags and other assorted luggage comes flying straight at her

May 30, 2009, 7:51pm (top)Message 6: Smiley_Scorpio

*smiley appears out of the doors of the caboosse smiling and laughing at the running HEers*

May 30, 2009, 7:56pm (top)Message 7: pollysmith

Hi smiley! Haven't seen you for awhile!

May 30, 2009, 8:32pm (top)Message 8: MrAndrew

Well, anybody that catches JP's train of thought is at risk of disappearing for a while.

May 30, 2009, 11:08pm (top)Message 9: lefty33

I think I'll wait for the next train..

May 30, 2009, 11:09pm (top)Message 10: jugglingpaynes

catbastet said I'm not supposed to tease MrA anymore.

What's funny is I was thinking of adopting MrA and MsDonna because they are so nice. They could be my brother and sister-in-law. Or a brother-in-law and sister. Not as a brother and sister though, because that would be a little weird since they're married.

Pros for having Donna as a sister: She nice and has my sense of humour. I could see us hanging out and chatting together like I do with my real life sister. And we could borrow clothes from each other. And I'm sure she wouldn't mind taking my youngest for the summer.

Pros for having MrA as a brother: I could go back to teasing him, because that's what sisters do to brothers. Of course, brothers can beat up their little sisters when they get teased, but I figure it would take him a while to reach me since we're on opposite sides of the world and all...

See these are the issues I deal with when the HE friends are married couples. It was much easier to adopt Kerian and suge, although I'm not sure if suge's my sister or my daughter now. And, compski is already my chat twin.

*Assumes everyone has now disappeared for a while.*

This will give me time to start adopting other HEers like foggi and bib, who only have siblings on. And to wonder how I would be related to polly and MEM. I guess it would be easiest if I make polly my sister, and that way I would be MEM's auntie...Ron will fit in on the Spanish side of my family...

*Looks up. Notices everyone confused and staring.*

Don't mind me. Carry on.

May 30, 2009, 11:10pm (top)Message 11: jugglingpaynes

Oh hi Lefty! I almost forgot about you and Mindy! Thanks for reminding me.

*jots down notes on the HE family tree I'm building.*

May 30, 2009, 11:11pm (top)Message 12: lefty33

In case you were wondering, this is a good example of why I'm waiting for the next train. :P~~

May 30, 2009, 11:47pm (top)Message 13: jugglingpaynes

*makes note to send a separate train for lefty. Even though mom says we should share*

May 31, 2009, 3:25am (top)Message 14: Kerian

Heehee. I must say because of your hair and eye coloring I instantly thought of my mother when I met you, jp.

Choices, choices. Do I run after this train or wait for the next? ;)

I miss you guys and LT so much right now! My computer doesn't like it. I ran everything I can think of with my virus protection stuff, because the computer was just fine until my relatives came over last weekend. Will be trying to catch up for what's now nearly an entire week's worth of threads to go through.

May 31, 2009, 8:24am (top)Message 15: biblioholic29

#10: I'd love to be adopted by you as something, but both my parents are on HE and occasionally post...

May 31, 2009, 9:28am (top)Message 16: pollysmith

I never had a sister! and MEM could use a new Auntie, Thanks JP

ETA hey sis can I borrow 50 bucks till payday? I'm a bit short

May 31, 2009, 12:51pm (top)Message 18: foggidawn

I though you adopted MrA as a brother a while back?

*goes to hunt for resurrection stone*
*decides to take a Sunday afternoon nap instead*

May 31, 2009, 6:45pm (top)Message 19: lefty33

I think you're right Foggi. Something to do with copyrights and such, I think.

JP, really I'd be honored to be adopted just so long as I still get to keep my original family. I'll even take the same train as everyone else.

May 31, 2009, 8:52pm (top)Message 20: jugglingpaynes

Well of course you get to keep your real family! You don't think you're all going to live here do you?

May 31, 2009, 9:48pm (top)Message 21: lefty33

We'll be like extra cats. Suddenly there are just more of us living with you!

May 31, 2009, 9:51pm (top)Message 22: MrAndrew

scratching the furniture, fighting, yowling at night, pooping everywhere... oh sorry, that's just me isn't it?

May 31, 2009, 11:13pm (top)Message 23: MrsGrinch

I be watchin' Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.

May 31, 2009, 11:35pm (top)Message 24: jugglingpaynes

*JP pulls MrA off of her curtains.*

Jun 1, 2009, 6:06am (top)Message 25: MsDonna

*dreaming* wouldn't it be nice to have a break if Mr A was scratching the furniture, fighting, yowling at night, pooping at JP's place instead of here. Or even better if JP's adoption extended to accommodation privileges...

I've had all my flea treatments...

Jun 1, 2009, 8:56am (top)Message 27: jugglingpaynes

MsDonna, you are welcome here anytime. You can even bring MrA, as long as he's had his flea treatments and you clip his nails short.

Better yet, maybe you could have him declawed...

BTW, foggi was correct. We all adopted MrA as a brother a while back. This means I'm still allowed to tease him under the rules of the sibling convention.

Jun 1, 2009, 8:58am (top)Message 28: jugglingpaynes

Here is the Adopting MrAthread for anyone who missed it.

Jun 1, 2009, 9:26am (top)Message 29: kirbyowns

Man, it's hard to apparate on a moving train.

Jun 1, 2009, 9:31am (top)Message 30: MEM82

Why do I always miss the trains around here?

Auntie Juggling!

Jun 1, 2009, 10:19am (top)Message 31: Tid

HEEEEE!!!!!!!! I'm back for a little while! I'm actually in History right now, but I already finished the project a week ago, so I don't feel like working some more.

Glad to see we're always as random as ever!!!!!!!1

Yep, apparating onto a moving train is not easy!

Jun 1, 2009, 11:36pm (top)Message 35: jugglingpaynes

Oh! Oh! I forgot to mention this, and I thought it was really funny.
Yesterday we were in Barnes & Noble and I happened to notice The Harry Potter Lexicon in the children's section! (interesting, it isn't touchstoning here)

Anyway, after all the fuss and bother between Steve Vander Ark and JK Rowling, I was surprised to see it there. Then I noticed a loooooooong sentence at the bottom of the cover which was basically a disclaimer about how he was totally unauthorized and not associated with anyone or anything to do with Harry Potter. There was enough legalese on the cover to wallpaper a courtroom. LOL!

Jun 2, 2009, 5:22am (top)Message 36: LadyN

*sniff sniff* It's ok JP, I was never picked in games at school either... *sniff*

Jun 2, 2009, 9:17am (top)Message 37: kirbyowns

jp: I noticed it last week or 2 weeks ago when I was there. I plan on going today to pick up a few titles (because I don't have enough TBR books already *rolls eyes*).

Jun 2, 2009, 1:17pm (top)Message 38: jugglingpaynes

LadyN, I guess because I already consider you a member of my extensive family! Aren't you suge's twin? You can't break up a set. You are adopted because I've already adopted suge! :o)

Jun 2, 2009, 1:35pm (top)Message 39: biblioholic29

Speaking of family...where's espy been? Has he decided he doesn't like us anymore?

#39 -- He's been busy with the video game site he's just started reviewing for -- and the Internet has been down at the building where he works. I think at this point he's a bit daunted at the idea of catching up on all of these threads, but I'll tell him you guys were asking about him.

Jun 2, 2009, 4:31pm (top)Message 42: kirbyowns

If I remember correctly, he told us we needed to get to work posting because he was bored. He started a thread on it even.

Jun 4, 2009, 3:49pm (top)Message 51: foggidawn

Don't you hate it when you open a thread and completely forget what it was you were going to post? I just sat starting at the gn/bn thread for several minutes, trying to remember what news I had, before deciding that it couldn't be that important if I couldn't remember it from one minute to the next!

Jun 4, 2009, 4:34pm (top)Message 52: jugglingpaynes

That's why you should always start in thought derailment. It doesn't even have to be a logical thought in here. I could easily start talking about banana slippers and then shift topic to the caterpillar cocoons my youngest is raising and then back again to talk about Star Wars since there is a Jedi vs. Sith book in front of me, then completely change my mind and talk about cats and dogs.

Seasick yet?

Oh right, this is a train. Train sick yet?

That song is going to be in my head all day now.
That and names for lefty's puppy.

Maybe she could name him Banana...

Jun 5, 2009, 11:50am (top)Message 58: lefty33

Speaking of the Snape song (apparently on a different thread ... but I swear Foggi mentioned it), I like the idea of naming Pup Snape, except that it isn't a nice-sounding name. Though I like the ideas that go with it -- loyal, loving, good-looking...

Jun 5, 2009, 11:57am (top)Message 59: biblioholic29

Oooh, ooooh! Name it Severus....or even better Albus Serverus!

Jun 5, 2009, 11:59am (top)Message 60: lefty33

LOL! Why didn't I think of that sooner?

Too bad I didn't choose a girl ... could have named her Renesme.

Jun 5, 2009, 12:03pm (top)Message 61: biblioholic29

If you had gotten a girl, that's absolutely what I would have suggested!

Jun 7, 2009, 6:29pm (top)Message 62: jugglingpaynes

I'm having a minor panic attack. It involves flashbacks as to why I don't do parties anymore.

How do I politely go from "I'll see if I can do your party" to "No! No! Leave me alone and never contact me again!" Because just reading this woman's emails are freaking me out that this would be a big mistake.

Jun 7, 2009, 7:27pm (top)Message 63: pollysmith

Oh dear! Just say you are booked for that day,jp

Jun 7, 2009, 7:55pm (top)Message 64: jugglingpaynes

Yes, that's what my husband said when he read her emails.

Now to teach myself to say no to someone... :o)

Jun 7, 2009, 9:30pm (top)Message 65: lefty33

You can do it, JP! I managed to say no to someone today. I was very proud of myself. I'm altering a wedding dress for someone I know and she asked if I would make a blusher for her too (the veil that goes in front, over your face). Tulle is such a pain to work with though and I'm really feeling my lack of free time lately so that was about the last thing I wanted to do. So I was able to say no! :)

I think part of my problem is that I want to be able to do everything. I almost said yes just to prove I could make it. Yes, I have a problem.

Jun 7, 2009, 9:49pm (top)Message 66: catbastet

64- Dad also said that we should tell her that we're moving out of state and entering the Witness Protection Program.
*shudder* I read the e-mails. The woman is crazy.

Jun 7, 2009, 11:02pm (top)Message 67: jugglingpaynes

I'll tell her no. I just need a day or so to muster up my courage.

Maybe I could just tell her I charge $1000 an hour.

What scared me the most is in the middle of going off on random topics she tells me "I think balloons might be cool with juggling; as long as you try to play with the kids and teach them." Excuse me? I entertain at parties, I don't teach workshops at parties. Especially an outdoor party of 5 year olds. There's this thing at parties. It's called a "sugar high."

Jun 8, 2009, 4:08am (top)Message 68: MsDonna

Tell her you need to see details of her insurance coverage before you get your lawyer to contact her lawyer as you generally need to ensure that people have at least 10million coverage in case of a stray baton...

Jun 8, 2009, 9:55am (top)Message 69: jugglingpaynes

I'm composing a letter now.
Gosh it's hard to say no.

I need coffee.

Jun 8, 2009, 5:53pm (top)Message 70: pollysmith

suggest she find a pony for her party instead!

Jun 8, 2009, 6:22pm (top)Message 71: jugglingpaynes

:o)

My sister-in-law did that once. I'll never forget chopping vegetables in her kitchen as she tried to coax my nephew out of his room. Some day I'm going to write a book.

Jun 8, 2009, 6:57pm (top)Message 72: Kerian

Saying no is hard. Good luck, jp! Be strong.

I have to tell someone no, too. For the last two days I've been trying to use bib's recipe for apple cheddar soup, and I just know my sister coming home tonight will want mac and cheese. No!

Jun 8, 2009, 7:47pm (top)Message 73: compskibook

JP, Cat, K, Suge, Mandy, and Bib! Happy one year and one day anniversary of all of us meeting each other! That was such a great time! Remember the unplottable castle?

Jun 8, 2009, 9:11pm (top)Message 75: kirbyowns

Pretty!

So I'm trying to do my report and presentation for later this week. I haven't gotten very far. Spent a lot of yesterday and this morning cleaning my room, going through stuff, and getting rid of stuff. I even went through my book shelves (since they were overflowing onto everything else). Packed up books I don't plan to reread any time soon, and wow do I have lots more room. Now my shelves are doubled (books in front of other books), but at least they're a little more organized.

Jun 8, 2009, 10:14pm (top)Message 76: Espeon200

Foggi says that you all think I don't love you anymore. I'm here to assure you that that is not the case. I've just been really busy lately and on top of all that I didn't have stable Internet access at work (it's a long story that is actually boring and quite depressing when it all comes down to it. I will not go on). Thankfully my Internet access at work has been restored, but now my laptop's cord has developed a disturbing quirk, namely it refuses to charge my laptop.

It seems like lately every time I turn around there's another problem or concern around the corner, but I promise that I haven't forgotten all you wonderful HEers, and I hope to one day be able to completely return to the party. I'll try to bring some Ale-8-One, which is wonderful even though it's non-alcoholic.

I'm also going to try and at least keep up with the game threads when I can, though I think I almost had a heart-attack when I saw the number of unread threads... this is what happens when I challenge you all to write stuff and then wander away like a troll who has just been placed under a memory charm. That said, I'm probably going to disappear into the mists of the "Interwebs" in the future. Some day soon, though, I hope to once again be on that marvelous train known as the Hogwarts Express. Thanks for being here and for laughing at my jokes, poor though they may be, and for listening. I'll definitely let all of you know when I'm back for good.

I'm trying to decide what sort of chocolaty yumminess I want to make for my birthday. I don't want just plain cake. What I think I want is Rocky Road Fudge Bars,

Just saw a clip on the news that there will be a report about Robert Pattinson. Something about him almost getting run over by a NY taxi and a gang of crazed fans. Hmmm....

Maybe I should call suge and see what she's been up to...

Update: He was by the Strand bookstore (a place suge knows and loves) when a gang of crazed teenage girl fans came running after him and his five (yes FIVE) bodyguards. He ran across the street and a taxicab came and clipped him on the leg. He's fine and his fans now have proof that he is a sparkly vampire. :o)

That's kind of funny since I'm paused mid movie on my "Twilight" dvd right now! Poor Pattinson. On the other hand, poor Strand bookstore. Had an actor who looked more like the Edward suge envisioned been hired to play Edward's role I'm sure the bookstore would have seen a huge pick up in sales from her hanging out there more often. Not that she didn't frequently visit them before. That is one very cool bookstore. LG's local used bookstore has more than one floor, too. I'm completely jealous.

#93 -- I know what you mean! We have one small, overpriced used bookstore that I never go to, so I always stock up at Half-Price Books when I'm traveling near one . . . but even that's no match for a really cool used bookstore. *sigh* Small towns.

Jun 19, 2009, 3:02pm (top)Message 95: biblioholic29

Hey, my small town has three used bookstores on one street. All pretty decent in size. Suge saw them, although they were closed by the time we made it into town. However, anyone else comes to visit...

Jun 20, 2009, 12:53am (top)Message 96: Kerian

#94 foggi:
Our local Half-Priced Books isn't a match for a really cool used bookstore, either. I would die for any bookstore to be in my city, of course - we have none. Something that used to kind of make up for these things was when there was a HPB, Borders, and B&N along a street in a city I used to take bus trips to just to go to the bookstores. I went there once a week. HPB moved to a different area, though, and going without having a used bookstore in the bunch isn't half as fun.

You definitely have some cool used bookstores. I'm impressed with their book-buy-backs and birthday books. It sounds awesome.

Jun 21, 2009, 10:32am (top)Message 97: pollysmith

A used bookstore.....hmmmmmm....maybe I could open a used bookstore! But that would mean selling books...none of which I would want to part with.....maybe not such a good idea

Jun 22, 2009, 8:47am (top)Message 98: biblioholic29

#96: That one's actually not even one of the three I was talking about, it's in the next town over, a whole 10 minutes away. It's one of two bookstores in that town.

Jun 22, 2009, 11:32am (top)Message 99: biblioholic29

So, I follow a bunch of the HP cast on Twitter. Tom Felton got his hair bleached today and apparently filming on DH starts this week.

Jun 22, 2009, 7:32pm (top)Message 100: lefty33

:D

How exciting! Thanks for sharing, Bib!

Jun 23, 2009, 8:06am (top)Message 101: LadyN

I think it's been going a little while - maybe it's his bits that are starting. There was definitely a short piece on tv while suge was over about filming on location for Shell Cottage. It looks verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry cool.

Jun 23, 2009, 8:19am (top)Message 102: pollysmith

I saw a commercial for HBP last night on TV!

Jun 23, 2009, 9:06am (top)Message 103: biblioholic29

#101: Very possible. He's having to be bleached again today because it wasn't white enough the first time. He's being pretty whiny about it, but bleach hurts, so I can't really blame him for that. The Phelps and Matthew Lewis aren't filming at the moment, so perhaps they are doing stuff at Malfoy Manor, though Emma hasn't said anything about it....

(No Dan or Rupert, I want Rupert to Tweet!)

Jun 23, 2009, 9:59am (top)Message 104: lefty33

If bleaching hurts, you'd think they could just let him wear a wig or something. Poor kid guy. (I still think of them all from the SS days.)

Jun 23, 2009, 1:34pm (top)Message 105: Kerian

I think of them all as kids still, too.

My kid sister bleached her hair a week-in-a-half ago so she could dye her naturally dark hair a light brown. She didn't rinse it out well enough so part of her hair looks grey, even after dying it. ;)

Jun 24, 2009, 8:21am (top)Message 106: compskibook

Tim and Sonya from LT are going to be at the ALA conference in Chicago. I wonder if anyone is going from HE to tell them hello and thanks for us? hmmm

Jun 24, 2009, 9:27am (top)Message 107: biblioholic29

Stephen Fry is filming Top Gear today. I love Twitter.

Jun 24, 2009, 10:50am (top)Message 108: foggidawn

#106: Hmmmm. . . .

Jun 24, 2009, 12:01pm (top)Message 109: pollysmith

Oh sure! I'll just hop on my broom and fly up there, Okay?

Jun 24, 2009, 12:23pm (top)Message 110: LadyN

#107 - Ooh! Two of my favourite things! Stephen Fry and Top Gear!!!

Jun 24, 2009, 12:24pm (top)Message 111: biblioholic29

#110: I know! He won't tell his laptime, but he did say he almost totalled the Reasonably Priced Car and they had to go to the back up. *sigh* You'll get to see it well before we do here, I think.

Jun 24, 2009, 12:29pm (top)Message 112: LadyN

I'll be sure to keep an eye out! Have you seen the episode they sceened here on Sunday yet, when they supposedly revealed The Stig? I'm not sure I believe it...

Jun 24, 2009, 12:34pm (top)Message 113: biblioholic29

No, we're currently getting reruns from series 10. Monday night's episode was the muscle cars on the Bonneville Flats. You know, when they came to America and were "not entertaining" but "purely documentary". ;)

Jun 24, 2009, 12:37pm (top)Message 114: LadyN

Ha ha ha ha ha!! I love them :-) Sunday was the first in the new series here, and well up to standard. Apart from revealing who the Stig is. I really don't believe them. As you may have already gathered!

Jun 24, 2009, 12:41pm (top)Message 115: biblioholic29

Excellent! I imagine we'll start getting those episodes around September...

That's the problem with BBC America, it takes so long to get the new stuff, but then I know you guys are just as far behind on American shows, so I guess it all evens out in the end. :)

ETA: Just checked the special "American" Top Gear website and we're definitely getting reruns through at least mid-July.

RE #106:
Wondering as well. :)

Jun 24, 2009, 8:57pm (top)Message 117: Kasongo

I googled The Stig last week and found out that if the race car driver who is the stig is found out or admits it, he has to leave, it is in his contract. So there was speculation as to what color the new one wear since the first wore black.

Jun 24, 2009, 10:21pm (top)Message 118: foggidawn

#106, 116: Hypothetically speaking, if someone happened to be attending said conference, what would the rest of HE like that person to tell Tim and Sonya?

Jun 25, 2009, 8:57am (top)Message 119: biblioholic29

That we love them for leading us all to each other!

Jun 25, 2009, 2:19pm (top)Message 120: Kerian

Yes! A big hello from the group, that we love them, and to thank them very much! I don't know about the rest of you, but my life would have been pretty cruddy without you guys and LT. Love you guys!

Jun 25, 2009, 8:18pm (top)Message 121: MEM82

8) I wonder what brought about the actual 'LibraryThing' idea. Was it need for a good online library tool or more of a "hey wouldn't it be cool if..." kind of thing.

Jun 26, 2009, 2:27am (top)Message 122: Kerian

It would be a good story to hear. :)

Jun 28, 2009, 9:54pm (top)Message 124: lefty33

Hey all you Easterners! It looks like I'll be in NYC and the surrounding area in August. Since there are several of you over there, I'm going to ask that interested parties send me a message and I'll get back to you with details so we can perhaps do some meet ups!

Jun 29, 2009, 10:34am (top)Message 125: pollysmith

stop in columbus on your way! hehe

Jun 30, 2009, 10:06am (top)Message 126: lefty33

Well if you end up being on the way..

Jun 30, 2009, 3:02pm (top)Message 127: catbastet

Yay, lefty!

Jun 30, 2009, 5:04pm (top)Message 128: Kerian

:P Lefty.

I'm excited for you guys. :)

Jun 30, 2009, 7:47pm (top)Message 129: jugglingpaynes

Um. Can you remind me when it's closer to August? I can't plan too far in advance. Not enough brain cells.

Does anyone read the comic strip Zits? It's about a teenage boy (I imagine it's Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes in his later years). Anyway, I'm really starting to identify with that strip. I found out today that my cousin had her baby. Last Saturday. My mother told my son over the phone on Sunday. At midnight that night, he told me she called. He didn't mention about the baby. When I asked if grandma had told him about my cousin's baby, he said yes. I guess babies aren't that important to 13 y.o. boys. *facepalm*

Jun 30, 2009, 7:49pm (top)Message 130: pollysmith

Oh I love ZITS!

Jun 30, 2009, 10:03pm (top)Message 131: compskibook

I love it, too. I was just telling my brother Sunday about this strip that was exactly him as a teenager

Jun 30, 2009, 10:14pm (top)Message 132: foggidawn

#129 -- Oh my goodness, JP! That is exactly what Espy was like as a teenager. Sample conversation:
Foggi: Espy, do you know where Mom went?
Espy: I dunno.
Foggi: Did she say when she would be back?
Espy: Nope.
*** Later ***
Mom: I'm home!
Foggi: Where were you?
Mom: I went to the store to get milk and eggs . . . didn't Espy tell you? I told him to tell you I'd be back before 4:00.

Teenage boy brain. *shakes head*

And Zits did an homage to Calvin and Hobbs in one of their earlier strips -- wish I could find the strip! I agree that Jeremy is like a teenage Calvin!

Jun 30, 2009, 10:23pm (top)Message 133: Kerian

My family's very fond of that comic strip. They're always saying Jeremy is just like one of my sisters. In fact, the one compski posted sounds just like a conversation I regularly have with my youngest sister.

Jun 30, 2009, 10:36pm (top)Message 134: foggidawn

Hey, I'm in chat if anybody has a few minutes to spare!

Jun 30, 2009, 10:38pm (top)Message 135: jugglingpaynes

Do you think it's a second child thing, foggi? You're older, right? Did Espy mumble too? I swear I think I'm going deaf sometimes when I talk to him.

Now I'm going to have to find that homage...*cracks knuckles*

Jun 30, 2009, 11:21pm (top)Message 136: lefty33

Yes, JP, I'll remind you in a few weeks.

Foggi, I missed you. Though I guess you were in chat an hour ago. I can't expect you to hang around all day!

Jul 1, 2009, 4:33pm (top)Message 137: Mandy2

I got an email from a friend who watches Pepper sometimes when we're out of town, inviting the hubby and me to fireworks on the 4th. So this started a chain of little chit chat emails between the 2 of us that ended with this LOL statement. (Pascal in their dog, FYI)

"You know we found bones all over the house hidden in strange places the whole week after Pepper left. Pascal just kept bringing us stuff and we were like, where DID you get this and WHEN was Pepper upstairs behind the bookshelves!"

That's my girl. :) Just wanted to share.

Jul 1, 2009, 6:21pm (top)Message 138: compskibook

Last night I watched Inkheart. I had very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I haven't read the book in a while (I am planning a reread now that I have seen it), but they seem to stick to the general gist of it. Great cast including Brenden Fraser, Andy Serkis, Paul Bettany, Helen Mirrem, and our own Professor Slughorn (aka Bridget's dad) Jim Broadbent. The only thing that bugged me was the girl was raised by her American father, but had an English accent.

#137: She's so weird.

Jul 1, 2009, 7:06pm (top)Message 140: jugglingpaynes

Help me! My newly teenage son has lost the ability to converse!

He helped out at the Nature Center today. I came to pick him up. This was the conversation:

Son: Why were you so late? (this was his second longest sentence)
Me: I'm sorry, yoga ran late...why do you smell like flowers?
Son: I don't know. I was working in dirt. (yes, that's the longest)
Me: Are you OK?
Son: Yes.
Me: Are you sure?
Son: Yes.
Me: Were the other kids nice?
Son: Yes.
Me: (trying desperately here) Were they all girls?
Son: Yes.
Me: Were they all older than you?
Son: Yes.

At this point I gave up and turned on the radio...

#137 I think I am worried about Pepper in August!!

Jul 1, 2009, 11:00pm (top)Message 142: MrAndrew

>#140: An entire, distinct "Yes"? That's pretty good. Obviously, he has not yet progressed to the "grunt" stage, let alone the "shrug" stage. You have a lot to look forward to.

Jul 1, 2009, 11:07pm (top)Message 143: jugglingpaynes

#142: We already have the grunt and shrug, as well as the mumble. :o)

I've decided to use this time to hone my deductive reasoning skills. For example, I figured out he was smelling like flowers because of a natural insect repellent.

Me: Did Scott have you put on bug spray?
Son: Yes.

Last night we had a bag of dark chocolate buttons in the house (the large ones), so I did an impersonation of the Other Father from Coraline. I didn't factor in the low melting point of chocolate, so it was followed immediately with an inadvertent impersonation of a panda. Photos were taken.

Just dropping by from a busy computer station at my conference, so can't do any catching up (maybe later) -- I wanted to say hi, though, because you know how I go into LT withdrawal if I don't check in! ;-) Saw Sonya and Tim and conveyed your regards. Did I derail the train of thought?

Is it just me, or have we been kinda quiet lately? Where is everybody? Do we need a new game? A new adventure? A thread where people check in and say why they've been too busy to post? What gives?

Jul 20, 2009, 8:36am (top)Message 173: jugglingpaynes

No, no, not you. I myself have been lost in thought. Thankfully, I am now out of my mind. I won't go back in there without a good map.

Jul 20, 2009, 10:12am (top)Message 174: pollysmith

If anyone has an idea for a new game or something go for it. I've been bored for days (except of course for sweet little Theo! The GD has a game going where they post books by author's names alphabetically, which of course takes some thought. We could play guess hangman only I don't know how to make a hangman on here, but you know make spaces and everyone guesses a letter until someone gets the word. I'll go and start a new thread on that, shall I?

Jul 21, 2009, 10:37am (top)Message 179: Mandy2

Jul 21, 2009, 10:45am (top)Message 180: foggidawn

I noticed the new design . . . apparently they decided that we're no longer in 'beta" . . . or did that happen a while ago? But I haven't gotten a comment yet, so I haven't seen what they did to the comment notification.

Jul 27, 2009, 9:13pm (top)Message 195: biblioholic29

They were talking about getting their hair died for the movie. In reality they're brunettes.

Jul 28, 2009, 7:57am (top)Message 196: lefty33

I've been going through the OotP discussion threads because I was trying to see what Bib hates so much about the movie without asking her and getting her all worked up about it and I thought it funny how careful everyone was about staying on-topic (long, imperfectly constructed sentence but I can't think of a better way to say that). There were actually apologies for getting things off-track! Apparently we've now decided that derailed trains are either the way to go or impossible to avoid.

Bib, I'm getting the idea now of what you have against the movie. Have you bought it yet? Since OotP is both of our favorite book, I was wondering what we saw differently in the movie that let me like it. I'm not through all the OotP discussions yet. We can go through specifics when I'm done. :)

Jul 28, 2009, 9:05am (top)Message 197: biblioholic29

I have the movie, if I remember correctly I picked it up at Blockbuster using one of their 4/$20 sales. I think I've watched it twice since I got it (both for movie watches) and still disliked it both times. I'd be happy to compare with you once you've gotten through all the threads. :)

JP I have the same problem I can't say no to people either. What gets me is my husband knows this and yet he still tells the telemarketers.."here talk to my wife" then gets annoyed when they talk me into a magazine subscription or whatever else they are peddling! You'd think he'd learn his lesson after 12 years!

Aug 11, 2009, 7:18pm (top)Message 209: jugglingpaynes

*Snort* If I get caught by a telemarketer (I screen my calls with caller ID) I usually tell them I can't make any decisions without my husband, so they should call back when he's home. He used to work in customer service for a cruise line, so he's much better at saying no. :o)

Aug 11, 2009, 7:23pm (top)Message 210: pollysmith

I just say No Thank You and hang up

Aug 11, 2009, 7:35pm (top)Message 211: jugglingpaynes

You are a stronger woman than I am, polly! I still suffer from spending my childhood trying not to disappoint anyone. :o)

Aug 12, 2009, 3:24pm (top)Message 212: foggidawn

I have mislaid my hairbrush. I'm pretty sure I had it here (didn't lose it in the airport or leave it at home) but I can't figure out where I have put it. I've been through my luggage, looked under the bed, on all of the furniture in the bedroom and the bathroom countertops, scanned the rest of the apartment . . .

I think I must have eaten it.

Aug 12, 2009, 3:37pm (top)Message 213: pollysmith

I hate when that happens!

Aug 12, 2009, 6:42pm (top)Message 214: Kasongo

Only way to find it is to go buy another, then you will find the first upon returning home.

Aug 12, 2009, 7:10pm (top)Message 215: catbastet

212- Oh, I hate it when I lose my hairbrush. I end up wandering around the house, looking everywhere, and then I usually find it underneath something, or behind something, or right in view where everyone can see it, and then I feel silly.

214-Yes, that is the quickest way, I've found. ;)

Aug 12, 2009, 11:32pm (top)Message 216: kirbyowns

"Oh where is my hairbrush?
Oh where is my hairbrush?
Oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where
Oh where....is my hairbrush?"

*Sigh...I love VeggiTales*

Aug 12, 2009, 11:33pm (top)Message 217: jugglingpaynes

LOL! I was humming that song too, kirby!

Aug 13, 2009, 2:00am (top)Message 218: foggidawn

#216 -- Yes, Mom was singing that to me this morning. Still no sign of it.

Aug 13, 2009, 10:00am (top)Message 219: biblioholic29

Well, did you check to see if anyone loaned it to the peach?

Aug 14, 2009, 2:20am (top)Message 220: PollyAnnaHP

Maybe it was sucked into The Book of Lost Things, ask Ron if he saw it there.

3 216 Haha, I love Veggietales too!

Aug 19, 2009, 8:24pm (top)Message 222: jugglingpaynes

So I'm outside sawing the last pieces of wood for my bookcase/windowseat project and the mailman goes by. (He's the world's greatest mailman, btw, we all love him) He asks what I'm building and I explain.

Mailman: Without any help?
me: Sure! (I couldn't hear well and thought he said "Want any help")

Mailman: You must have a lot of books!
me: Yes. It happens when you homeschool!

Mailman: You know, I just got a Kindle.

I later realized he was suggesting this as a storage solution. I laugh, because I can't imagine the Kindle replacing my books, just adding more unread virtual books to the pile. :o)

Aug 19, 2009, 9:23pm (top)Message 223: lefty33

lol, JP! What a great mailman. Too bad he wasn't really offering to help. I'm with you on the Kindle though.

Aug 19, 2009, 10:12pm (top)Message 224: foggidawn

Mom found my hairbrush yesterday morning when she got back from dropping me off at the airport.

Aug 19, 2009, 10:31pm (top)Message 225: jugglingpaynes

Went off on its own, eh? Did it enjoy Russia without you? :o)

Aug 19, 2009, 11:47pm (top)Message 226: foggidawn

Mom says I need to come back and get it.

Aug 20, 2009, 11:24am (top)Message 227: pollysmith

well just explain to the airline that you forgot something and matbe they'll let you hitch a ride (hehehe)

Aug 22, 2009, 9:15pm (top)Message 228: kirbyowns

"Oh where is my hairbrush?
Oh it's home without me.
Oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why
Oh why did it not want to come with me?"

Sung to the tune of "Oh where is my hairbrush"...You have to sing the last line really fast.

So, Sunday night/Monday morning I dreamed about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, I haven't actually read it yet, so my brain made up some stuff. Then yesterday I won that ARC of Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters which I picked up last night. Last night I again dreamed about P&P&Z with Marianne Dashwood hanging around as well. I'm taking this as a hint that these should be my next reads.

Aug 25, 2009, 10:23am (top)Message 237: kirbyowns

Maybe. I'm reading P&P&Z right now. I'm surprisingly enjoying it.

I have been painting my laundry room for several months now. Actually, what happened was that I started the project in the spring, and did the difficult part: I moved the washer and dryer and refrigerator and painted behind them. There, I thought, now painting the rest of the room will be a piece of cake!

On that point, I was wrong.

I spent the rest of the summer being either too busy or too tired to tackle the rest of the project, but I decided that this weekend was the time to finish it. I actually think I'm almost done at this point -- I'm taking a break to let the second coat dry before I decide whether I need to go back to the store and get more paint, or whether that's enough. I also have one high corner above a cabinet that I will have to be creative about, unless I can get Espy to paint it for me this evening. Espy is not thrilled about my color choice:

but I like it.

Aug 29, 2009, 4:10pm (top)Message 247: compskibook

I like it foggi. Yellow is a hard color to pick out.

Aug 29, 2009, 4:29pm (top)Message 248: foggidawn

I think I liked it for the name mostly -- it's called "soft duckling" -- but it also matches the bits of yellow in my kitchen wallpaper, and since the laundry room is right off the kitchen, it's important that the colors work together.

Aug 29, 2009, 4:49pm (top)Message 249: pollysmith

I like it too! very bright and cheery

Aug 29, 2009, 7:22pm (top)Message 250: MsDonna

The NY Blood Center has started a new campaign to get blood out of me. I'm trying to figure out how getting a flu vaccine would make me want to give blood.

Oh hey, wow! Take my blood, and then poke me with another needle! What a great idea!

I'm wondering what the Red Cross will give me as a counter offer? (Did I mention that I inadvertently gave blood to them once, so now I have two different blood drives coming after me?)

It's a sad day when the derailed train of thought thread slips down the list.

Apropos of nothing then, i'll mention here that i have been playing with my tags, and i'm quite pleased with the results. I think it makes my tag cloud much more interesting. Feel free to take a gander.

I had a weird dream (what else is new?) and decided to use it as an excuse to pull this thread back up.

In my dream, catbastet had gotten married. I knew she was married even though I hadn't been to the wedding. In fact, I was looking forward to meeting her new father-in-law, Bob Marley, because she had married his youngest son, Murky. For some reason, she and Murky hadn't started living together yet.

Sep 17, 2009, 9:32am (top)Message 260: Mandy2

Hi you guys, I wanted to let you know that if you get the chance of watching the moon tonight, do it. According to chinese tradition tonight's moon will be the brightest and fullest of the year...such a shame it is raining here :S

Oct 3, 2009, 9:42pm (top)Message 290: MEM82

It's the Harvest Moon, isn't it? Or was that last months? Last year, during the windstorm, we lost power for a week and it was the Harvest Moon. It was so bright outside that it almost did look like a sort of daylight. Rob and I sat out all night in it. Super Cool. Something we probably wouldn't have appreciated nearly as much if we had had power.

How do we live without book trailers? I'd never seen one before and have only watched twelve seconds of one (it's all my computer will load so far) but I'm laughing so much from it. The intro has a sort of catch to it. :)

This is for Melissa de la Cruz's fourth book in her Blueblood vampire series.

Moving on Up newest thread for those of us not continuing the game

Oct 27, 2009, 4:32pm (top)Message 350: jugglingpaynes

kirby! How could you! This was the most fun I've been having in a while!
*sob*

OK, game players, shall I start a super secret, hush hush, no mention of the word game, you gotta be in it to understand it thread for our song title game? We can expand it to include song titles from other groups or change it on a whim. Or I can simply drop this idea if you've gotten bored with it.

Huh? Huh? What do you want me to do?

Oct 27, 2009, 4:40pm (top)Message 351: foggidawn

I like that idea! An undercover game thread! And yes, do expand it to song titles from any group -- I think I was inadvertently throwing in some diversity there at the end anyways (considering that I'm really bad at knowing who sang what).

Oct 27, 2009, 4:42pm (top)Message 352: kirbyowns

Well, I didn't necessarily stop the game. You did JP!

Oct 27, 2009, 4:55pm (top)Message 353: jugglingpaynes

Touche, kirby, touche! (is there any way to get a stress mark when you need it?)

I'll put it up soon, I'm just sending a note to someone who asked about our group...

Oct 27, 2009, 5:08pm (top)Message 354: jugglingpaynes

Here's the link. http://www.librarything.com/topic/75896

The Super Secret Society of Song Speakers is now open. Any song title works, as long as it's a song title. Those of you who love musicals more than pop music, don't be shy. Lets see if we can converse in song titles!

Oct 27, 2009, 7:10pm (top)Message 355: kirbyowns

That's hard to say: Super Secret Society of Song Speakers. Say it 5 times fast. Come on. You can do it. Now try saying it while holding your tongue.

MERRY EARLY CHRISTMAHANAKWANZIKA!

Dec 7, 2009, 6:19pm (top)Message 360: jugglingpaynes

Posting this here for Lefty. I originally wrote it on my Facebook page:

Vampires have fangs, prowl at night, and like to sleep in a box. Cats have fangs, prowl at night, and like to sleep in a box. Ergo, vampires are cats.

Dec 8, 2009, 9:06am (top)Message 361: lefty33

Yay! Thanks, JP!

Dec 9, 2009, 12:05am (top)Message 362: kirbyowns

Do you know how hard it is not to buy the HBP DVD?

Dec 9, 2009, 12:12am (top)Message 363: jugglingpaynes

How hard is it?

I've been playing with Cleverbot. It's an AI. I was "singing" Bohemian Rhapsody with it. I said Inconceivable and it quoted Inigo's line. It knows that nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition...

Way too addictive! Here's the link: http://www.cleverbot.com/

Dec 9, 2009, 12:37am (top)Message 364: Kerian

I'm getting the HBP dvd tomorrow.

JP, that site is so weird!

Dec 9, 2009, 10:48am (top)Message 365: kirbyowns

#363: Really hard!!!

Dec 9, 2009, 1:42pm (top)Message 366: lefty33

Husband bought it for me!!!! :D He said I needed a present since I've had to work too much lately. He's the best!!!

Dec 9, 2009, 2:11pm (top)Message 367: kirbyowns

Reading somewhere in the GD and found a mention of the liquid bookmark. Decided to look it up in google (where else?) and found this:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/supp...

I especially love the description at the bottom that says:
Perfect gift for that girl you know who is obsessed with that series of books about vampires
Yes, we know what series of books they are talking about.

Dec 9, 2009, 3:00pm (top)Message 368: MrAndrew

Those Lestat books?

Dec 9, 2009, 6:51pm (top)Message 370: pollysmith

OMG! that cleverbot site is freaky!

I am going to wait and see if anyone buys it for me for Christmas if not I'll buy it then.

Dec 15, 2009, 10:22pm (top)Message 371: kirbyowns

So, Finn has this obsession with me going out the front door. He can't stand it if I go out it without him. Any other door and he's fine, but the front door he will start whining or barking. He will also look out the little window beside the door. Last night I was getting our small tree out of the storage building. When I was almost to the step the door opens and out comes Finn to greet me. No one else was around the door to open it for him. He pulled the handle right when the wind blew. Silly puppy.

Dec 16, 2009, 7:47am (top)Message 372: pollysmith

Finn, the Wonderdog!! Make him a cape! Wait....no cape!

Dec 17, 2009, 5:19pm (top)Message 373: catbastet

A mask! Definitely a mask!

Dec 17, 2009, 5:35pm (top)Message 374: kirbyowns

He'd wear a mask, but probably not a cape.

Dec 17, 2009, 7:26pm (top)Message 375: jugglingpaynes

All the better. Capes are dangerous.

Dec 17, 2009, 7:58pm (top)Message 376: MrAndrew

So if 5pm "Eastern" is 2pm "Pacific", then why would the 4pm timezone be called "Central"? Surely 3:30pm would be more central. A 4pm zone should be called "Slightly East of Central".

Dec 17, 2009, 7:59pm (top)Message 377: Kerian

RE #371:

How cute. When my mom was growing up there was a dog down the street who could open the front door. He'd go out while his owner was working and return back in the house by the time the man got home. His neighbors swore for years that this was happening before the man caught his dog in the act. They got a chain link fence around their house, and that was the end of that.

#376 MrA:
Ah, I don't know, MrA. I don't try to understand time. I may have gotten that off. You have good reasoning, though! I like it.

Dec 17, 2009, 9:42pm (top)Message 379: jugglingpaynes

Isn't there also mountain? I never understood where mountain is.

It must be very tiring being time. It's a 24 hour day.

Dec 17, 2009, 10:09pm (top)Message 380: biblioholic29

Yes there's mountain. Interestingly enough it's in the mountains (Rockies).

Dec 17, 2009, 10:12pm (top)Message 381: MrAndrew

lol. And you have to know when to speed up or slow down, depending on what speed you are travelling, the effects of gravity, and whether a meeting is really boring.

"Mountain time" is really weird. It seems wrong to say something like "It's 11:23am mountain time". Don't mountain folk tell the time by the height of the sun, or the moss of trees, or something? Do they even have watches?

"What time is it, Grizzly?"
"Ah reckons it's time to eat us some possum, Zeke".

Don't even get me started on "Pacific time". Do you know how many timezones the Pacific covers? I'm on the Pacific, for heaven's sake.

/rant.

You're thinking of the Appalachian mountains. The Rockies are more like "Let's hit the slopes and then go check out a snooty film festival!"

Except maybe for Utah.

;)

Dec 18, 2009, 4:43pm (top)Message 383: MrAndrew

so, Carlsbad NM is on "Mountain Time", and the Appalanchians are not. Makes perfect sense.

Dec 18, 2009, 6:47pm (top)Message 384: Mutombu

As people who grew up near the Rockies and Sierra Nevada would say, "The Appalachians are not really mountains, just big hills."

I always assumed that the people at the gas station near me recognized me because I drive an Orange honda fit. But today I was in a rental (black ford focus) and they said "new car?"...
