Thought it was time for a new thread

GN: I've had my hair cut and coloured. Normal cut but have dark red streaks and bright red tips to it, with a dark base!

BN: Couldn't really afford it but............eh

Jun 9, 2009, 4:22pm (top)Message 2: foggidawn

GN: Collections!
BN: Work . . . so no time to play with Collections.

Jun 9, 2009, 4:26pm (top)Message 3: catbastet

1- Ooh, it sounds like hair that Tonks would have. :)

Jun 9, 2009, 4:47pm (top)Message 4: littlegeek

This is too good to languish in the old thread:

GN!!!!: Lunch date with laia!

Jun 9, 2009, 4:59pm (top)Message 5: aglaia531

Yayyyyyy, noodley Thai goodness with LG on Friday!!!

Bad news: This means I need to STOP LT-ING and playing with my blog - but go look at (and click, if you're so inclined!) the shiny new RSS button: SO CUTE!!! Then I can fully justify taking the day off.

Good news: I can do it. I'm efficient like that.

Jun 9, 2009, 5:01pm (top)Message 6: catbastet

Cool, LG and Laia! Take lots of pictures!

Jun 9, 2009, 5:08pm (top)Message 7: lunacat

GN:

Here's a couple of pics of my hair. Can you tell I like it??

BN: I'm clogging up loading time ;)

LG and Laia! Enjoy your lunch date!

Jun 9, 2009, 7:11pm (top)Message 9: kirbyowns

Love your hair!

GN: Presentation, and handouts are finished.
BN: Paper isn't.
BN: I keep getting distracted. And I'm hungry.
BN: Haven't packed yet.
GN: It doesn't take long to pack.

Jun 9, 2009, 7:14pm (top)Message 10: lefty33

GN: Tooth is fixed! :D
GN: Root canal procedures are a piece of cake. I nearly fell asleep while they were doing it. Of course, I haven't slept properly in a week because of the tooth so having it numbed was such a blessing I think I really might have dozed off for a minute.

Collections are here?? I have to go see!!

Jun 9, 2009, 7:15pm (top)Message 11: kirbyowns

Yeah for tooth being fixed.

Jun 9, 2009, 7:22pm (top)Message 12: ejj1955

Love the hair!

BN: My hair badly needs coloring, but I don't have the stuff on hand.

GN: I'm making progress on a project, which will lead to money, which will lead to buying the stuff . . . eventually.

Jun 9, 2009, 7:29pm (top)Message 13: kirbyowns

Oops. Posted on thread #12.

I don't think Finnegan feels good. He's been still for 10 minutes now.

Jun 9, 2009, 7:41pm (top)Message 14: foggidawn

GN: After an evening of shoveling, I have managed to uncover the bottom of my in-tray.
BN: The huge pile o' stuff on the other corner of my desk remains unconquered.

Jun 9, 2009, 8:10pm (top)Message 15: ejj1955

>13

Oh, no. Keep us posted, I'd hate to think Finnegan was unwell.

Jun 9, 2009, 8:43pm (top)Message 16: jugglingpaynes

Without even considering the coloring, I thought it must be so nice to have manageable hair. Mine is frizzy right now. Thank you damp weather.

Good news: Today's busy is finished. I have spent most of the day in the car.

Good news: I found the correct good news/bad news thread.

Bad news: The weather is messing with my knee. It's so much fun to go up steps and have my knee pop and throw me off balance.

Jun 9, 2009, 9:58pm (top)Message 17: mindylou182

Good News: I get to play with Miles tomorrow at Missy's house =D
Bad News: I have to do some errands before I can go =(

Jun 9, 2009, 10:01pm (top)Message 18: kirbyowns

Now I can't get Finn to leave me alone. Apparently he was resting up to annoy me.

Jun 9, 2009, 10:03pm (top)Message 19: lefty33

Kirby, I hope Finnegan is okay takes a nap!

Foggi, I hate papers. When there is a big pile, I tend to throw them all away and hope I didn't need anything.

JP, sorry about your knee! You should go up extra steps for a while just so you at least get to enjoy the popping/falling experience a little more while it lasts.

GN: Mindy is coming! Miles will be thrilled!

#4 LG & #5 laia:
How exciting! I agree with cat. Pictures, please? I can't wait till HBP. Six-in-a-half weeks! :)

#7 luna:
One of my sisters has used those colors together. They're nice.

#10 lefty:
I'm so glad ot hear about your tooth news! I'm happy your root canal sounds like it went okay. I had an awful experince with mine, though my teeth have extra roots so that much to do with the reason why.

#13 kirby:
Is Finn like a hummingbird? :) I do hope he's alright! Keep us up to date.

#16 jp:
*hugs*

*pulls out some markers to draw on kirby, who must surely be sleeping. Heeheehee!*

Good news:
My ER book arrived today!
Bad news:
We lost our new boss and have to get yet another one. It's so frustrating. We haven't had someone who really stayed with us since maybe January.

Jun 10, 2009, 9:49am (top)Message 23: biblioholic29

BN: This morning before work the news talked about a couple of kayakers on the Brandywine River who went missing, one was found dead this morning and his brother is still missing. I just found out the one that's still missing is the Pastor at one of our supporting churches. The church is right across the street. He's a great guy and all are very worried.

#7: Your hair looks great, luna! I once dyed my hair blue and it was so much fun!

#10: I'm glad your toothache is cured and that the root canal didn't hurt, lefty!

#16: Sorry about your knee, jp...

#20: Congrats on finishing your paper, kirby!

#22: Yay and what ER book is it, k? and it sucks about your boss...

#23: I'm so sorry about the pastor, bib. Let's think positive and hope that they find him alive, safe and sound.

BN: My mom is in one of "those" moods.
BN: She is ranting to her friends that we (my brother, my dad and I) do not consider her feelings.
BN: Every time I try to approach her she just shuts herself and doesn't talk to me.
JN: I have learned from experience that it is better to let her cool down for a few days.
BN: I don't know how long "that" will take.
Changing the subject...
GN: I spent a wonderful evening yesterday with a family of students of mine.
BN: I won't be able to do the intensive course I was thinking to advance in my career because...the dates coincide with a trip I have during the first week of September
GN: I'm going on a trip to Margarita (that's an island which is part of Venezuela) with my best friends!!! I can't wait!!!
GN: Without the intensive course I will be able to enjoy 2 full months of vacations!! I will have to work of course but no college for two months!!!

P.S. Sorry for the long post there has been a lot going on these last days....

Jun 10, 2009, 10:34am (top)Message 25: LadyN

BN: Tube strikes in London. Started last night and continue until Friday morning. Now, the tube is not my main form of transport these days, however, when there's a strike every one else needs to use the other modes of transport which I do use. This brings me into contact with a much higher volume of STUPID PEOPLE than I would usually be forced to wrangle with, and tests me to the very core of my being.

GN: Having not been in touch with Warner-Brothers-voice-over-dude for a while, I emailed him today and re-established contact. We're aiming for the first week in July. He's just finished off HBP in 26 languages :-)

E(motional) N: I had a very sweet note from our MD today, saying that even though we've already spoken about my resignation letter, he wanted to thank me, and he'll miss me. *sniffle*

Jun 10, 2009, 11:29am (top)Message 26: jugglingpaynes

Bib, I'm so sorry. I hope the pastor is alright.

LadyN, consider taking notes on the particularly stupid people. They might make wonderful characters for you!

Good news: My car is in the garage. This means I'm forced to stay home today! Yay! (Yes, this is good news. I spent most of yesterday in the car. Hubby tried to let me use his car, but I talked him out of it.)

Great news: The first of our butterflies has emerged! We've had terrible luck with this project in the past, so I'm very happy.

Bad news: One of the cats has realized something is moving in the butterfly habitat.

Jun 10, 2009, 11:55am (top)Message 27: littlegeek

BN: Our union reps are a bunch of idiots.
BN: 9% pay cut, they are counting our vacation as "furlough" days (not paying us for them) and also furloughing us another day per month. Which is a straight up 4.5% pay cut with no compensation.
BN: Many of our membership do not see the difference between working 20 days in a month or 21 and getting the same pay.
GN: I purchased middle-of-the-week, day game tickets to see the Giants vs Dodgers for my husband's birthday present. I can use a furlough day!
GN: No layoffs.

Jun 10, 2009, 12:12pm (top)Message 28: Marensr

Wow cute hair cut Luna!

Have fun LG and laia. Pictures please!

sorry LGl, that stinks but I am glad there weren't any lay offs

Lefty glad you are well

Bib we'll hope for the best

Ron enjoy your vacation!

Uh oh JP any butterfly lunches yet?

Eek LadyN do you have a different job now? How did I miss that and in touch with voiceover guy is good!

BN Kismet (one of the kitties) has a very expensive thyroid problem

GN It is worth paying to help a good and sweet kitty member of the family.

One of my friends, who admittedly likes animals much better than people, noted once that her animals are her children and they won't be asking to go to college, so she didn't mind spending money on vet bills for them.

Jun 10, 2009, 12:37pm (top)Message 30: jugglingpaynes

Poor Kismet! I hope your kitty will be OK. Was Kismet the really big cat?

So far, the butterfly is safe. The cat who noticed (Dusty) managed to sneak out of the house when we were getting the mail.

Jun 10, 2009, 2:38pm (top)Message 31: LadyN

#28 - No, no new job, but I'm leaving the current one in order to do my trip. There was no contest when given the choice! I'm not leaving until the end of September, but wanted to make sure the MD heard it from me and no-one else. He can be a very difficult man, but we get on very well, and he's a fantastically interesting, and potentially valuable person to know. His note was very sweet.

Sorry poor Kismet is sick :-(

Jun 10, 2009, 3:12pm (top)Message 32: Kerian

#23 bib:
I am so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with the missing man, the person who was found, and the community. *hugs*

#24 Ron:
My ER book is Open Letter to Quiet Light. I hope things get better soon between you and your mom. When does your two months off school begin?

#25 LadyN:
I hate when my form of public transportation gets busy, too. It always seems to fall on the hottest days when you'd rather not be around so many people. ;) Ohhh, I can't wait to hear how meeting the Warner Brother guy goes!

#28 Maren:
*Hugs* for you and Kismet! I hope Kismet isn't suffering and will be much better soon.

#29 ejj:
One of my aunts never plans to have 'people children' and has always considered her cats to be her children. :)

Bad news: The boss of the person who is supposed to be my boss is keeping closer tabs on me. She called my work today to have someone talk to me about a missed break last week. The week before, she criticized my work shoes and choice of shirt that day. (My jeans hid that my shoes were dress shoes, and she changed the dress code policy for shirts that day.)
Good news: It's easy enough to fix these things.

GN: We made it to our conference.

BN: Been busy, haven't been able to be on much.
GN: We only have one day of school this week because on Monday we had a track and field day and yesterday we had a track and field meet then today we had normal school.
GN: Tomorrow we have trip to this overnight activity thing where you stay up all night doing science stuff. It's gonna be awesome! And since everyone's gonna be so tired on Friday, we get to go home!
GN: We presented our windmill project. I'll see if I can post pics of it later.
GN: I got a hair cut today. I got about 3 inches off, making it up to just below my shoulders. I got it layered and side bangs. I love it!

Yes kismet is our portly kitty- the thyroid has something to do with that. He is still happy and very sweet we just need to take care of him because he was developing a heart murmur.

Jun 11, 2009, 2:42pm (top)Message 48: MEM82

Happy Thursday Everyone!

Lot's of good news that's kinda bad news:

GN/BN- Rob is going in for his surgery tomorrow. He is nervous but at least he'll be all better when it's done. 8)

GN/ BN- Missie test results came back and she scored really well. Better, actually than I thought she would. Good news is it proves that I'm not a complete failure as a teacher. Bad news is I'm not sure I should be teaching such a smarty. Feeling the pressure now. GN is that she scored post High School in listening comprehension (which, by the way, I find it a bit odd to test listening but whatever). BN is that she must be ignoring half of what I say to her because up until those results came in I was positive she couldn't understand many simple commands such as "Clean your room" or "Stop doing that to your brother".

Yay! Ups and downs. 8)

Jun 11, 2009, 2:58pm (top)Message 49: LadyN

#48 - Wish Rob all the best. Thinking of you all.

And hurrah for you and Missie on her excellent results! What a great teacher you are.
(all children and pets suffer from selective deafness, I wouldn't worry ;-) )

LoL Thanks, LadyN, but the only credit I can really take for any of it is providing the DNA and the rides to the library. 8) This week she got out 14 books on snakes...still no fiction. 8( Even the librarian mentioned her preference for reference books which was vaguely embarrassing since she (the librarian) kept glancing at me oddly as she talked to Missie. *sigh* LOL

Jun 11, 2009, 3:15pm (top)Message 51: Renald128

#48: Hope everything works out in Rob's operation! Sending nothing but positive vibes and energy his way! And I'm happy Missie got great results on the tests!

I can see testing listening comprehension because some people learn much better that way than by reading. It's certainly applicable to college lecture classes, for example, and a lot of work situations where people are told things rather than being given them in writing.

(Although I'd add that I'm much much better able to absorb information through reading it, myself.)

Congrats, at any rate, for nurturing her so effectively!

Also, hope Rob's surgery goes well.

And congrats to Mindy on the book acquisitions; congrats to Ron on his test score!

Jun 11, 2009, 5:16pm (top)Message 54: foggidawn

#50 -- The librarian was probably impressed at Missie's reading selection, and the "odd looks" at you were probably an attempt to make you feel included in the conversation without making Missie feel like the librarian was more interested in talking to you than to Missie. It's a fine line we children's librarians walk. ;-) (Of course, this is just conjecture, since I wasn't there at the time.)

I think I visited your city's library system once, MEM -- it was a particularly nice one. I wonder if one of the branches I went to is the one you go to? That would be cool!

Jun 11, 2009, 6:17pm (top)Message 55: MEM82

Foggi- that kind of relieves my mind. I thought maybe the librarian was trying to signal that I was a bad mom for letting my little girl get books out on poisonous snakes. 8) I'm glad I didn't make any faces back at her now. LOL

Yes, Columbus just won a prize for best library system in the country or something like that. I go to several different branches (it has 23 locations) but I mainly go to one near a K-mart which is a pretty nice size branch and it's two blocks from my house. Our Main Library which is Downtown is two and half stories and all fancy. I don't like that one though just because it's so big as to be cumbersome. My branch is large but the children's section sits on one side of the check out desk and the adult on the other. I can look straight down the main aisle from almost any other aisle and see Missie or at least Missie's hair (she has that oddly bright metallic blond hair) in the Children's section. The thing I don't like about our branch is the children's reference is mixed in with the adult reference on the adult side. It's hard for Cole to behave for as long as it takes to help Missie sort through all the inappropriate books.
The library we were at with the library was actually part of another system though. It is about 6 miles from our house and is also a very nice library with it's kids' reference with the kids' books. 8)

...sorry I can go on and on about my love of libraries. I could write poetry.

Jun 11, 2009, 6:18pm (top)Message 56: MEM82

->51 & 53 thank you thank you

Jun 11, 2009, 6:23pm (top)Message 57: jugglingpaynes

#50-I don't think you need to worry about teaching her MEM. Missie is doing fine teaching herself. Sit back and enjoy the ride, because speaking from experience, I can assure you this won't be the case with all of your kids. ;o) Catbastet was like Missie, but my son was much more...hmmm...relaxed about his education. I spent a lot more time trying to help him learn to read and figuring out 5,000 ways to educate him with dinosaurs, which was his only interest.

Jun 11, 2009, 8:11pm (top)Message 58: jugglingpaynes

Good News: All of our butterflies emerged! Woohoo! I'm so proud.

Bad News: Every time they flutter, cats start circling.

Jun 11, 2009, 8:32pm (top)Message 59: MEM82

JP- Yeah, Cole is already showing signs that he is going to be 'interesting' to teach. LOL Ah well, if anyone says anything about it, I'll have disassemble their TV in retribution. Muwa-hahahaha The boy was born to electronics and toolboxes just like his daddy. 8)

Bad News for Mom -> She's watching the kids (and dog) for us tomorrow and they have officially reached Level Obnoxious from being cooped up by rain for two days.

GN- It always does my heart good for someone else to deal with my monst-um angels. Just think, I'll be sitting in a quiet waiting room, all alone, with my MP3 player and a book for two hours. *beams of heavenly light shine down upon me*
Mom, on the other hand, will be here with the beasts gnawing on her legs and maybe each other. *fires of Hell burn in Cole's eyes*

mmmm happy

Jun 11, 2009, 8:34pm (top)Message 60: MEM82

Butterflies + cats = bad

good luck with that! Hopefully they live in a room without kitties when it's bedtime.

Jun 11, 2009, 9:20pm (top)Message 61: jugglingpaynes

#59: You know, you could just stick your kids in old clothes and rubber boots and send them out in the rain. ;o) Seriously, my youngest loves to explore the yard in the rain. Give her an umbrella and rubber boots and she's happy.

Jun 11, 2009, 9:53pm (top)Message 62: MEM82

8) It's been actually downpouring all afternoon so that's a no go. But if it was drizzling, maybe, but then I would have to be out in the rain with them, waddling around after them.
8) I just don't do rain with kids. I think about sudden lightening strikes and wet grass slips that lead to broken wrists. Puddles of chemical run off from neighbors fertilizer or doggy poo. What if the raccoon that lived underneath our shed thought it was drowning and came sputtering out, crazily and attacked the kids? OR a branch coming out of the tree? Or wet concrete to fall on? Seriously the world is a scary place, and when you put kids out in it, there is all sorts of things to think about... especially when you have crazy baby hormones attacking your already crazy brain chemicals. 8) LOL They get to splash in puddles after the sun has come out.

->63 You should hide a dead fish in her office vent. Uh, I mean that in the most mature way possible. 8)

Jun 11, 2009, 10:44pm (top)Message 65: MsDonna

#64 muhaha you are evil and unfortunately her office is a little to close to me. Plus everyone would immediately know it was me as I'm the only person would think of something like that.

Jun 11, 2009, 11:05pm (top)Message 66: mindylou182

Good News: I have nothing major planned for tomorrow... meaning I can read!

Bad News: I have to clean my room... okay so I do have something major planned for tomorrow.

Good/Bad News: I might be going to a booksale tomorrow. I haven't decided yet though because I'm probably going to go on Monday too... and it's an hour drive. (plus I spent more than I expected at the last booksale.)

Jun 11, 2009, 11:12pm (top)Message 67: jugglingpaynes

Oh Donna, I'm so sorry that your manager is being an idiot. It must be hard enough to go back to work after all you've been through without having to deal with office politics. If she is truly creating a hostile working environment, perhaps you should keep a journal noting her behavior, just in case she is trying to force you to quit.

And if, say, a large cockroach ended up in her office, how could anyone pin that on you?

Jun 12, 2009, 12:07am (top)Message 68: MsDonna

Unfortunately for her, I am not the type of person who can be forced to do anything. If anything I might end up forcing her to think it is a good idea to move on if she keeps it up. Just ask MrA how stubborn I can be ;)

Jun 12, 2009, 1:27am (top)Message 69: MrAndrew

No you're not.

Jun 12, 2009, 1:37am (top)Message 70: MsDonna

Yes I am.

Jun 12, 2009, 1:42am (top)Message 71: aglaia531

MsD, I don't think any of us would doubt you, even without the reliable MrA's reassurance ;)

Good news: Lunch with LG tomorrow!
Bad news: You all want pics, which means waking up at least fifteen minutes before rolling out the door so I can slap on something makeupish.
Good news: I love makeup!
Bad news: I have a sticker on my nose. (Wait, is this the train of random thought? Whoops, sorry)

Jun 12, 2009, 1:48am (top)Message 72: MrAndrew

>#70: No you're not.

#47 Ron:
Thanks, Ron! I haven't seen the movie Up yet but everyone seems to be talking about it. I've only heard good things about it. Enjoy the movie with your niece and nephew!

#48 MEM:
Congratulations to you and Missie for this last school year! It sounds terrific. Best of luck to Rob.

#63 Donna:
I hope your boss treats you better soon. I'm so glad you're feeling much better! *hugs*

#71 laia:
Huzzah! I hope you guys have the best time! And what do you mean by blaming us for making you wear make up? ;)

#73 Donna:
KIK! My full sisters and I always put fruit stickers on our mom's nose when we were kids.

Bad news: My computer hasn't been able to shut down properly lately. This morning it did some updates and restarted...only it can't quite successfully restart.
Good news: I was sure this meant it was dead, but it wasn't. I ran some really intense scans etc and fixed some but not all of the problems.

Unrelated good news: Tumbledore slept on my lap for the first time today! She doesn't like to lie, sit, or stand on people at all. I was very shocked.
More good news: I got a lot of cleaning done today.
Bad news: I flooded the garage tonight. We have a sink in the garage beside the washing machine that does this every so often.
Good news: We think the garage sink might be fixed now.

ETA:

Bad news: Someone just scared the h e double ladders out of us. We heard someone in our front yard who sounded like they were cutting our tree. Past midnight!
G/B news: It wasn't for some freakish reason but a man trying to fix our the power at our neighbor's house. It seems one of the tree branches left them without power. One more reason for neighbors to hate our tree.

LOL, very much like that, MsD, except a bit more bookish: it came off the front of The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey, and it advertises the sneak peek of the third book in the series. :)

GN: I'm presently in Science North, having free time. This is for our class trip, we just had an overnight challenge, where we stayed up all night doing experiments and stuff, which is why i'm currently posting this at 5:37 in the morning. Ok, so ya. But it was a blast! I had so much fun!
BN: I'm really really tired now and there's still the bus ride.
GN: When I get back to school at around 11, I can go home for the rest of the day!!

Jun 12, 2009, 5:46am (top)Message 77: LadyN

Donna - sorry for your work troubles. That woman sounds like a total a***e.

GN: I've just ordered a new digital camera and a camcorder, which both look to be super duper!! I'm not thinkning about the money.

BN: That was a little lie. I'm thinking about the money an incy bit...

Donna: Sorry about your manager.

*wispers* Got to go. Meeting is starting.

GN: Lunch with laia today!!! (I hope no one cares that I never wear makeup.)
BN: I probably have to postpone my hair appointment because we are so short-staffed today I have to come back this afternoon. I was hoping just to blow off the afternoon and have a longer lunch.
GN: Lunch with laia!

(I hope polly survived the babysitting and MrMEM is doing ok.)

Jun 12, 2009, 12:13pm (top)Message 83: foggidawn

GN: Same as Tuesday: So. Many. Children. Note that this is good news . . . just way more than we expected.
BN: The rain, it raineth every day. Not only is the cloudy greyness depressing, but the streets are flooded, and basements (including the one in which I work) are exceedingly damp.

Jun 12, 2009, 12:45pm (top)Message 84: jugglingpaynes

My thoughts as well. I figured they didn't know if any of us were awake, but they didn't talk to us today, either. My grandfather went next door to talk to them to find no one home but the people hired to work on their roof for the electric problem.

#80 LG:
One of my sisters never wears make up. (Not the youngest - she's a make-up junkie. ;)

#84 jp:
I got so tired of having that happen to me that I made a list online I can access from any computer to find my bookmarks. It's private so no one else can supposedly view it, though I'm careful with it anyways. It's very helpful and I recommend it.

#87 LG & 89 laia:
I'm glad to hear you guys had a good lunch and first meet! :)

#90 bella:
Happy belated thingaversary!

Very good news: Apparently we were lucky the tree, our house, and the neighbor's house didn't catch on fire, regarding that tree and electricity incident.
More good news: Tonight I happily realized that I can have half the money for my fall textbooks saved by next week.
Nice news: A sweet coworker bought something for me today in my favorite fragrance as a thank you gift.

#52 - MEM, I am due July 3, so we've a little time yet. At my checkup on Friday, my doctor said that everything was right on course time-wise, and that my parents were quite welcome to leave on their beach vacation today as planned, as there've been no signs labor is imminent. Obviously the baby could decide he's ready to come and the doctor's prediction go out the window, but I'm thinking not. Hope Rob's surgery went well!

GN: I had fresh strawberries on my cereal for breakfast! I love strawberries, and the season for them here has almost passed, so I was thrilled when my friend brought these to me yesterday.
BN: Over breakfast, I realized there's a bunch of little things that need to get done today before a meeting tomorrow night that I had completely forgotten about.
GN: At least I remembered!

Jun 14, 2009, 10:07am (top)Message 96: Ms_Bella

GN: I have a full day to get everything done
BN: I have so much stuff to do I am not sure I will get it all done.
BN: I have a 5 page research paper due by midnight that I thought I had another week to complete.

Jun 14, 2009, 11:26am (top)Message 97: Kasongo

GN: We met Suge yesterday.

Jun 14, 2009, 2:36pm (top)Message 98: pollysmith

just so everyone knows until MEM gets back on, Rob's surgery went well and he is recovering nicely, altho still in varying degrees of discomfort

Jun 14, 2009, 4:23pm (top)Message 99: lefty33

I'm glad surgery went well!

GN: My 16th marathon went well. I don't even feel very sore today. Apparently I didn't run hard enough. Mom, dad, and I ran together and had a lovely time running and chatting, enjoying the West Virginia scenery.

Jun 14, 2009, 5:51pm (top)Message 100: foggidawn

GN: I'm back from my trip!
BN: I've got the Sunday evening blues, and lots of laundry and straightening up to do.
GN: At least there's this evening's movie watch to look forward to!

Jun 14, 2009, 6:20pm (top)Message 101: Ms_Bella

GN: Almost all of the cleaning is done. I have one more load of laundry and vacuuming to finish.
BN: It is Sunday.... I so do not want to go back to work tomorrow.
GN: My aunt said she is just waiting for a deal to go through then I will be able to work at the company she works at. I can't wait to get to that point.

Jun 14, 2009, 7:23pm (top)Message 102: biblioholic29

GN: Mandy came down for the weekend and brought suge.
News: I knew about it for a while but didn't tell you so you couldn't try to get her to discover the secret project.

MWAHAHAHAHHA!

GN: We had a blast!

Jun 14, 2009, 7:33pm (top)Message 103: picolina

#98 polly: I'm glad Rob's surgery went well!

GN: My friend and I had fun today. We went to the marina and climbed on the rocks in the water.
BN: My feet are now very sore because I took my shoes off and had to do lots of balancing on those slippery rocks.
GN: I'm alive!!!!!!

Jun 14, 2009, 8:54pm (top)Message 104: biblioholic29

BN: The fire alarm went off in my building.
GN: There was no fire. The fire department showed up quickly and cleared us to come back in in about 15 minutes.

Good News: I'm going to Missy's house tomorrow for a booksale =D (btw. I hope you were aware I was coming Missy)

Bad News: One of my friends is debating on whether or not she wants to date this guy. This guy is literally a man whore though. But he says he wants to change. So I'm trying to convince her not to date him.

Jun 15, 2009, 7:19am (top)Message 107: MrAndrew

Literally a man whore? Like... Deuce Bigalow?

Jun 15, 2009, 8:19am (top)Message 108: Ms_Bella

lol Mr A...

BN: It's Monday... Work...
GN: My house is very clean and I finished my homework last night.
BN: I have a test this week and finals next week
GN: After finals I am done for the Summer!

Jun 15, 2009, 1:31pm (top)Message 109: jugglingpaynes

Oh my goodness.

I'm smelling a skunk. :oP It's broad daylight here, the skunks shouldn't be out.

*gag*

I'm hoping it wasn't under the house. We had one in the crawlspace once and it didn't like it when we slammed the door.

In case you were wondering, skunky smell is bad news.

Jun 15, 2009, 2:19pm (top)Message 110: ejj1955

Yes: I ran over one once (accidentally, need I say?), and the smell clung to my car for a very long time.

As you may know, if you do see one in the daytime, avoid it and keep any pets away from it--it could be rabid.

Jun 15, 2009, 3:10pm (top)Message 111: jugglingpaynes

Yes, I know. There are gardeners using all sorts of loud equipment all around me today (my neighbors all have idiot landscapers) and I think they must have startled a skunk in the process. They have been known to sleep under houses and porches around here.

The skunks, not the landscapers. :o)

Jun 15, 2009, 3:22pm (top)Message 112: foggidawn

BN: It's Monday. Really, I'm having a hard time getting beyond that fact.
GN: The end of Monday is in sight.
BN: I have eight million things that I really need to do before I go home.

Jun 15, 2009, 3:35pm (top)Message 113: Kerian

#98 polly:
Thanks for letting us know!

#99 lefty:
I'm glad to hear the marathon went well, lefty.

#102 bib:
That's just cruel. ;)

#108 bella:
Good luck on your test and finals!

Bad news: My computer is still having a lot of trouble and I don't think it can be 100% fixed until next month when we can afford it.
Good news: Until then, at this moment it isn't dying.

Sometimes I will read the threads and be typing when it requires to be restarted, so though you may not see me, I'm here.

Jun 15, 2009, 7:54pm (top)Message 114: ejj1955

GN: I got paid today.
BN: It's all gone now.
GN: I blew it on luxuries: electricity, medications, and food.
GN: Now I have food!

BN: I went to a meeting of a group I've thought about joining, but I'm still trying to figure out what their purpose is and whether they ever do anything toward accomplishing it.

Jun 15, 2009, 7:57pm (top)Message 115: jugglingpaynes

I can't believe you spent it on meds and food before books. :o)

Notice, I recognized the need for electricity. You need a lamp to read by.

Jun 15, 2009, 9:25pm (top)Message 116: ejj1955

Plus I need the power for the computer so I can be on LT--my battery doesn't last very long at all!

Plus, I did mail out some BookMooch books, which means I can get more that way (heh heh heh). Or, well, there's the five or six boxes of TBR . . .

Jun 15, 2009, 10:45pm (top)Message 117: mindylou182

Jun 16, 2009, 9:54pm (top)Message 120: MEM82

Thanks for the good wishes for Rob, everyone! He now able to get off the couch with little or no help. YAY!! Getting him into the bed is a bit more difficult. 8)

I am so sorry to everyone for neglecting HE! Life has been insane now for months. Eventually things will quiet down once the baby gets here and there are no more surgeries, tests, schooling, and crazy nesting instincts. Instead I will have sleep deprivation and one handed typing at 1 am while feeding Theo. Double YAY! So I will catch up with everything in a few-ish weeks, hopefully. Until then, no one do anything interesting that I might miss out on. LOL

Oh and it's awesome to read the rumors thread when one has no idea what is going on. 8) LOL

Jun 16, 2009, 11:26pm (top)Message 121: jugglingpaynes

You're welcome MEM! And in its own way, the rumors thread offers a good summary of what's been going on.

Good news: One more day of busy this week.

Bad news: Then I have to start getting all my end of the term paperwork together.

Good news: I've already written out most of it! But we had a bunch of last minute field trips I need to add. Like our trip to Poe Cottage today.

Jun 16, 2009, 11:39pm (top)Message 122: kirbyowns

I haven't read everyone's posts yet, but I will get caught up by tomorrow night. Just checking in!

Let's see, update:
BN: Friday I got stuck between Russellevile and Clarksville because of a tornado. Wind and rain were so bad that I couldn't see, so I pulled over to the side (which several cars had done). When it let up a little, I moved to the next off ramp to a little town. Who knows how far away the town actually was. Lots of cars were parked on the side of the off ramp, so I parked there for a few minutes (couldn't see again). Then the car started rocking really bad. So I went on towards the little town and found an abandoned gas station. Parked under the pump awning and waited it out. When we got the all clear (from my dad and other drivers) I was able to go on. Passed Clarksville (which was about a mile from where I was parked) and saw roofs blown off, and huge signs down. Drove by the next little town and power was off in the buildings I could see.
GN: Got home safely.

Then today:
BN: Driving towards a workshop and got caught in very similar weather. Couldn't see and the car rocked a few times because of strong winds.
GN: Made it safely.
BN?: One more day of the conference.

BN: Dad had some bad blood test results last week. He has a colonoscopy this Friday. About 3 years ago he had colon cancer. They removed a mass the size of a large melon, and he had to do chemo. He's been fine since, but he's been really stressed about mom loosing her job (it's going out of the country), and stressed about wondering about his job.
GN: I'm going with him.

Other BN: I was working on VBS stuff tonight and all the sudden felt bad. I went to the bathroom and then started hurting worse. Got home and threw up all my lunch and dinner (I know you wanted to know that).
GN: I feel much better now.

Hope everyone's doing fine!

Jun 17, 2009, 10:12am (top)Message 123: LadyN

Oh Kirby, what dramas!! Hope you're ok xx

GN: My new camera and camcorder have arrived! My friend Craig is going to teach me how to get the most out of the camera, so I can take some awesome pics on my trip.

BN: I have terrible sun burn. Craig and I went on a hike along part of the south coast on Sunday. It was a fabulous day, but as soon as the suncream went on, I sweated it off again. Ouch.

GN: After three days of mega-pain, it is feeling a great deal better today.

Jun 17, 2009, 11:17am (top)Message 124: littlegeek

GN: Camping trip starts today!
BN: No wifi.
GN: I'll be back with stories.

Bye, everyone, have fun while I'm gone, be good!

Jun 17, 2009, 11:44am (top)Message 125: Renald128

#124: Have fun on the trip, LG!!

Jun 17, 2009, 12:43pm (top)Message 126: LadyN

Have fun LG!

Jun 17, 2009, 8:19pm (top)Message 127: lefty33

Have a great trip, LG!

BN: Somehow I am still feeling overwhelmed with things I have to do even though it is summer.

GN: Husband and I have decided that I will be taking a break from dresses from the bridal shop. Like, a month-long break. This way we'll get to enjoy summer together. Hopefully the bridal shop will let me return in a month or so. If not, I have a large and ever-growing non-bridal shop following so I'm sure I'll be fine either way. I find I don't even care much, as long as I get at least a month off.

Jun 17, 2009, 9:23pm (top)Message 128: ChelseaBottomley

#122 Stay safe! And I hope the last day of conference wasn't too bad.

#124 Have a great trip!

Good news: My summer vacation has started! (well it did on the 12th) :)

Good news: This means no more homework (besides dialectical journal) and more free time! So more reading and LT!!!

Bad news: I have to try on my shorts and such...

Good news: My mom brought Golden Spoon home! Yay!

I'm in a good mood. I thought that might happen after school got out. I was really stressed.

Jun 17, 2009, 11:25pm (top)Message 129: Kerian

#122 kirby:
Scary! I'm really happy you're alright. Stay healthy and safe, and best of wishes to your dad!

#124 LG:
Have a good trip!

Good news: We had a good visit at work yesterday from the woman who is the boss of the person that will be our new boss.
More good news: There are only five more days until we get our new boss.
Bad news: The computer is still working poorly.
Best news: We might be able to afford to have the computer fixed sooner than I thought.

Miss everyone!

Jun 17, 2009, 11:28pm (top)Message 130: foggidawn

We miss you, too, Kerian! It's been awfully quiet around here lately.

Jun 17, 2009, 11:38pm (top)Message 131: Kerian

*hugs foggi*

I noticed! There are fewer unread posts than I thought I would find. I have tomorrow off work and am hoping to play catch up on LT if the computer is in good spirits.

Jun 17, 2009, 11:57pm (top)Message 132: mindylou182

#127 Good for you Missy. You deserve a break (especially from crazy brides and whatnot)

Good News: I got to see my friend that lives an houra way today (I don't get to see her often)

Bad News: I had to drive home at 11pm alone on 26 (which is the road I got in my first and only car accident) and I was having anxiety about a bunny or deer jumping out in front of me.

Jun 18, 2009, 7:12am (top)Message 133: LadyN

BN: I had to go to the doctor unexpectedly this morning.
GN: Turns out everything is fine.
GN: I bought cases for my new cameras, and because I was buying two, the nice man in the shop gave me £5 discount when he really didn't have to. What a nice man!

Jun 18, 2009, 7:14am (top)Message 134: lefty33

Oh, I do love an unexpected discount!

ETA: Maybe he just thought you were hot, LadyN.

Well, that's obviously a possibility! ;-)

Jun 18, 2009, 11:28am (top)Message 136: biblioholic29

BN: Laia's iPod apparently just went phhhbbbtttt right before she got on the plane for her long weekend, so looks like she'll be away from LT for a few days. All she can do at the moment is tweet, which is why I know this!

BN: This means she won't be blogging this weekend, I have become seriously addicted to her blog. I'm going to be having withdrawal pains now.

GN: *mumble mumble* Hehehehehe.

Jun 18, 2009, 12:16pm (top)Message 137: ChelseaBottomley

#131 I hope you have luck with your computer.

Good news: I'm visiting my great aunt in the nursing home and then we're going out to eat afterward (without her though).
Good news: I'm getting a new computer!!! This one is slowww
Bad news: I don't know when (hoping within a week) and I can't decide which one to get!
Funny news: I remember saying this about the old computer that was in my room and being happy I had this one instead. The first computer was a weird looking, touch screen, flat computer (my dad's). This is my dad's old laptop. Then I can buy my very own, never been used! :)

BN: Bib is torturing us! Either that, or I'm going deaf, because all I can hear of the good news in post #136 is mumbling.

Jun 18, 2009, 2:38pm (top)Message 139: Kerian

#137 Chelsea:
Thanks! I hope you're able to get your new computer soon.

#138 foggi:
Let's strangle her. ;)

Bad news: I hurt my thumb trying to unscrew something at work yesterday. My mother thinks it's a sliver of glass but our magnifying glass isn't helping.
Good news: It only hurts when my thumb is pressed from limited angles. (I know, just leave it alone. ;) I have been! :P )

Jun 18, 2009, 5:49pm (top)Message 140: LadyN

#139 - Sounds like a splinter to me K. Maybe tomorrow it will be more obvious so you can tweezer it out.

GN: I'm in bed.
BN: Given the good news, there can be no bad. :-)

Jun 18, 2009, 5:56pm (top)Message 141: Kerian

Goodnight, LadyN!

Jun 18, 2009, 5:57pm (top)Message 142: Ms_Bella

BN: Work has me super stressed.
BN: I have to be in an hour early tomorrow
GN: I got out a half hour early today
GN: I might actually get to spend some time with Tom today... lately he has been sleeping a whole lot.
GN: Tomorrow is Friday!!!!!!!!!!!

Bib, does #136 mumble mean what I think it means?

Jun 18, 2009, 8:17pm (top)Message 145: compskibook

Bib, that is very cruel to leave us hanging ;P We may forgive you if you tell us soon.

Good News: I am getting new plantation blinds for the entire house. Lowe's will install them for a really good price.
Bad News: I have to take down all the old blinds. 16 of them!
Good News: I just had a bunch of friends from school over and they took them down for me!
Tired News: I have spent the past week cleaning and all day today making munchies for them.
Good News: Now my house is clean and I can relax and enjoy the next two weeks before summer school starts.
Bad News: Except for my bedroom, I never put my blinds down more than half way, but now I feel like I am living in a fishbowl! I hope the new blinds come in soon.

Jun 18, 2009, 8:50pm (top)Message 146: grkmwk

GN: I have cherry cobbler for dessert waiting for me in the kitchen!
BN: I've been having some pretty strong shooting pains in areas where I've never had pain before.
GN: I think the pains might mean that my body is prepping for labor! I'm sure I'll find out more at my doctor's appointment tomorrow.
BN: This doesn't necessarily mean much timing-wise...

Jun 18, 2009, 10:28pm (top)Message 147: jugglingpaynes

Compski, I read your good news as new plantation birds. But plantation blinds is just as good. *thinks about Tara and compski in a big hoop skirt*

Jun 19, 2009, 3:39am (top)Message 148: Kerian

Kasongo, you are in on bib's secret! I have the busiest mind and though it comes up with different possibilities, it focuses on just one for what bib's secret could be. :)

#145 compski:
That's a lot of blinds! We only have ten windows and four blinds. I'm really glad you had helpers. How much longer till Lowe's will be there?

#146 grmwk:
Good luck!

Bad news: I'm extremely worried about my kid sister because of her weekend plans. I'm extraordinarily angry concerning this, too.

Jun 19, 2009, 8:38am (top)Message 149: biblioholic29

Now look what you've done mom! After all that work to keep them from knowing you knew!

Good thing there are only 15 days left of us pestering you, Bib. ;)

GN: Miles and I have been playing all morning! He is now trying very hard not to fall asleep ... and failing. He's especially cute when he's sleepy!

BN: I do have to get some work done today.

GN: This is in preparation for my 4-week break from alterations! :D

Jun 19, 2009, 2:20pm (top)Message 151: foggidawn

GN: I am home from work for the day! It's been an exhausting day of program after program, but I am done!
GN: Day off tomorrow! I soooooo need a day off.
BN: Now Kasongo is tormenting us, too!
BN: The house is a mess and the yard needs mowing. Guess I know what I'm doing with my day off.

Jun 19, 2009, 2:59pm (top)Message 152: biblioholic29

#151: Reading?

GN: I woke up this morning all motivated to get started on cleaning the basement at work.
BN: I wasn't able to get down there until 1:30
GN: I got a decent start. Apparently record retention guidelines have been ignored for a few years, lots left to do.
BN: The basement is of course full of mold, so now my lungs aren't feeling too good.
GN: The day's almost over!

Jun 19, 2009, 6:16pm (top)Message 153: Ms_Bella

Bib! We are curious... :(

GN: it is the weekend.
BN: The fleas are back...
BN: I have no clue how to get rid of them.. I have tried steam cleaning, and the powder that you put on everything... it hasn't worked.
BN: I fear Kitty Nyx is getting sick from them... she seems to be losing her hair, it is getting really thin. I have even gotten that flea treatment that you put behind their necks... nothing works. :(
More BN: Tom has to work tonight so I wil be home alone again.

Jun 19, 2009, 7:10pm (top)Message 154: Kerian

#149 bib:
And now you know that we know that she knows what you know, what Mandy might know, and what you insist suge does not know. ;)

#151 Foggi:
I hope you get to enjoy part of your day off tomorrow.

#152 bib:
I'm sorry you don't feel well. Is there more to be cleaned in the basement still?

#153 Bella:
I'm so sorry to hear how Kitty's doing. I'm going to write you a profile comment.

Good news: Things are looking better for my kid sister's weekend plans after some compromises.
Good news: I now have half my textbook money saved for the fall, and got to go book shopping with my Borders bucks today.
Bad news: The Borders store I went to removed several bookshelves. Also, their YA books are very difficult to find now that they're just randomly throughout the store instead of having their own section.

Jun 19, 2009, 7:13pm (top)Message 155: foggidawn

#154 -- That doesn't sound like a smart way to organize a bookstore!

GN: I went shopping this afternoon and bought a nice new suitcase for all of the traveling I'm doing this summer!
GN: It was an incredibly good sale. I got the suitcase for less than half of its original price.
BN: I left the candy bars that I bought for MrsEspy's birthday in the car while I went into the store to look at suitcases. Now they are in the freezer, returning to a solid state (I hope).

Jun 19, 2009, 7:28pm (top)Message 156: jugglingpaynes

Foggi, I have so done that! Are you baking for her? Maybe you could mix them into a brownie recipe. :o)

GN: It's Friday.
BN: I have to finish getting my paperwork together to send to our school district. Most of it is done, but I still have to write up instruction plans for my two youngest. :oP
GN: It's not raining!!!!

Jun 19, 2009, 7:52pm (top)Message 157: ejj1955

GN: New meds have finally brought my blood sugar numbers down, and I mostly feel better because of it.
BN: One side effect is joint pain that over-the-counter meds don't help with. Oww :-(

Jun 19, 2009, 8:58pm (top)Message 158: Kasongo

GN: we spent the afternoon with our favorite grandson. He is a great kid.
BN: the power company came to fix the meter at my business, and naturally she didn't have the correct tools to do this. Now I have to call them again Monday to set up another time for them to come. This is not surprising, surprising would have been if it had been fixed.

Jun 19, 2009, 9:22pm (top)Message 159: lefty33

#155 Foggi, wish MrsEspy a happy birthday from us!

#156 JP, good solution for melted candy!

#158 Kasongo, how truly annoying that you have to call them. They should just do it.

I don't have any news of my own. I'm just hanging out.

Jun 19, 2009, 10:11pm (top)Message 160: jugglingpaynes

BN: I forgot to save the changes I made on the kids' quarterly reports. *facepalm and tears*

GN: I had the info in other places, so I could cut and paste it back in.

When, when, WHEN will I learn to hit save before closing files?

Jun 19, 2009, 10:20pm (top)Message 161: mindylou182

Good News: I don't work tomorrow!
Bad News: I'm playing piano/flute for a wedding (not at the same time of course) and I'm nervous. Playing for a wedding makes me nervous...

Jun 20, 2009, 8:05am (top)Message 162: biblioholic29

#160: I'm sorry, that's so annoying!

JN: Working for my mom this morning (see post 158 for the reason)
BN: This means I had to get up earlier than I do for my regular job.
GN: I like helping out my mom! (Even when it's because she's seeing my favorite nephew that I haven't seen in just as long...)

:D

Jun 20, 2009, 2:16pm (top)Message 163: mindylou182

Good News: Goodwill had their half-off day.
Good News: I bought a fish bowl =D
Good News: Originally I was going to put spare change in the fish bowl. But then I decided I wanted a fish. So I got a black moor (he has bug eyes. It makes me laugh) and his name is Herman =)

Jun 20, 2009, 6:57pm (top)Message 164: grkmwk

GN: Everything at the doctor checked out fine yesterday.
BN: The pains I have been having are completely normal (good), but not indicative of anything other than generic preparations.
GN: Hubby and I went to the farmers market this morning and scored great stuff: oatmeal flaxseed bread, homemade butter pecan bread, homemade pound cake, cherries, blueberries, cucumbers, red potatoes, and pear jam. YUM!

Jun 21, 2009, 11:18am (top)Message 165: Kasongo

GN: We had a great time with Zachary and family.
BN: When we got back we had a storm come through and it knocked out the phone, FIOS which meant internet. Mutombu went out to the front porch to check to see if there was a problem outside, and the railing gave way and he fell, not far, but seems to have twisted his knee.

I think it was the outlet in the basement that blew out, and so now we have a long cord going from the basement up to a kitchen outlet to use the phone, tv and internet.

GN: Bib is here spending Father's day with her dad and me.

Jun 21, 2009, 10:58pm (top)Message 170: foggidawn

GN: The yard is mowed.
GN: The dishes are washed.
BN: The kitchen is still gross.
GN: I'm feeling more ready for this week than I was feeling last week at this time.
BN: I am dog tired. Actually, I'm much more tired than the dog, who is in the other room trying to get someone to play with her.

GN: My husband and I are going to see my friends (they are sisters) preform on July 3rd

Jun 22, 2009, 7:42pm (top)Message 173: picolina

Ooo! I finally got up the pictures from the windmill we had to build in science. The challenge was to build a windmill that would lift 50g with only the power of the wind from a fan set on high.

Here's the front view:

Here's the back view:

Here's the side view:

And here's the interior pulley system (viewed from the bottom):

We used K-Nex for the pullleys. Ours worked well and we got an A- on it, although when I tried to show it to my parents, the rubber belt kept falling off. :)

#169: Yeah, people who have seen it, should have warned you....:P I'm glad you liked the movie, Jp! An interesting tidbit is that the Falls are not actually called Paradise Falls but it is actually called Angel Falls (El salto Angel)

#171: Have fun at the trip, Mandy!

#172-173: Sorry about your blister, pico. And your windmill looks awesome!

GN: I taught 5 classes today!
GN: Money!
BN: I'm tired.
BN: College tomorrow :(.
GN: Only 2 to 3 more weeks to finish this semester!!

Jun 22, 2009, 11:06pm (top)Message 175: mindylou182

News: I work everyday this week except Thursday.
Good News: That means I get money =D
Good News: My car insurance went down $17!! I don't even know why. But I'm not complaining =D
Good News: I went swimming at my friends house today and got some sun.
Bad News: I'm slightly burnt.

Jun 22, 2009, 11:09pm (top)Message 176: foggidawn

GN: I have figured out my schedule for the conference I'm attending next month.
BN: It took four hours to work everything out!
GN: I will be going to lots of fun stuff, and seeing several friends from grad school there.

BN: I am too tired to post much this evening.

Jun 23, 2009, 12:16am (top)Message 177: jugglingpaynes

172-173: pico, I hope you cleaned that blister and put a band-aid on it.
The windmill looks neat. If you gave it a starting whirl, could you get the windmill to generate enough electricity to power the fan to blow on the windmill? That would be a good experiment for next year, don't you think? :o)

Jun 23, 2009, 1:52am (top)Message 178: mindylou182

Bad News: I can't fall asleep. And I babysit at 8am. gah!

Jun 23, 2009, 8:55am (top)Message 179: lefty33

Oh, JP, that does sound like a fun experiment!

The windmill look great, Pico!

#175: Car insurance companies often have discounts for driving accident free for certain amounts of time, 6 months, a year. You must have hit one of those milestones.

BN: Work sucks. I miss the mountains.
GN: Not too many bombs in here, most of the fires put out or under control already.

#157 ejj:

#158 Kasongo:
I hate when people who come to your house take so many trips to do things.

#160 jp:
*hugs*

#161 mindy:
How exciting that you get to play for a wedding! Best of luck. I'm sure it will be lovely.

#165 Kasongo:
Oh my goodness! I hope Mutombu feels better soon. We're supposed to get a railing on our front porch soon and hadn't thought about them giving way.

#171 mandy:
That's so cool! We've never been to a hotel that allows pets.

#172-173 pico:
I'm sorry about your foot and hope it's feeling better. Your windmill looks great!

Good news:
Three old friends from work, two of which I hadn't seen in almost a year, each dropped in on their own to visit last week. It was great to see them again.
Good news:
I bought a gorgeous lamp on Saturday. It's the first one I ever picked out for myself. The glass orb on the stand has a crackle effect.
Bad/Good news:
I lifted the lamp at a strange angle to set down and see how it looked with different shades over it in the store. The end result was an immediate pulled shoulder and arm, thankfully much better as of today.

Jun 23, 2009, 2:35pm (top)Message 184: picolina

>182 LG, I love Vegas! Have a great time.

>183 K, thanks for the hugs! I've had a couple of pretty good days in a row, so am feeling hopeful. The difference in how I feel when my blood sugar numbers are good is amazing.

GN: I'm about to take a walk and buy some cooking sherry so I can make French onion soup.
GN: I'm going to be eating French onion soup!

Jun 23, 2009, 4:18pm (top)Message 187: mindylou182

Bad News: As some of you may know, I have a ball python for a pet. So I got it a rat today to feed it. And then when I got home, I noticed his eyes were cloudy (this means he is about to shed). Since he's about to shed he won't eat. Which means I have a rat in my closet in a cage. Oh joy.

Jun 23, 2009, 4:35pm (top)Message 188: biblioholic29

#181: The porch rail in question is 16 years old and on the side of the house, so it rotted away and no one noticed.

Update on Motumbo since they didn't do it: He went to the doctor yesterday, it's sprained but nothing worse than that. A couple more days off it and he should be fine.

Jun 23, 2009, 4:38pm (top)Message 189: kirbyowns

Hello everyone!
It seems that I've been away for a while (a little over a week). I've been busy getting ready for V.B.S. and haven't had any time to myself. And when I did get home I was too exhausted to do anything. I'm making copies right now, so I had a little time to check in.

Update:
Dad's test came back fine. They removed a palup (sp?) but didn't see anything else. We still don't know why his iron was so low. We're going for a follow-up tomorrow.

I'm done with training until August! Yeah!!!! I probably will take a week to chill after V.B.S. is over (it's next week) and then get back up to school to set up my room. Don't know the exact date we'll be going up to Washington, but it will be around mid to late July.

So pretty much GN all the way around!

Jun 23, 2009, 5:22pm (top)Message 190: Kerian

#186 ejj:
You're welcome. I'm glad you're feeling better lately! Enjoy your french onion soup. :)

#187 mindy:
Ick. I'm sorry. How long does it take for your python to shed?

#188 bib:
Oh! It's relieving in knowing the rail's age. I became worried for my grandmother when she gets hers - I can't say how many times she's fallen. I send healing wishes to Motumbo!

#189 kirby:
We've missed you! Good luck to your dad tomorrow.

Good news:
My proof of payment and student i.d. stickers for the fall just came in the mail. Eight weeks! I wish the fall term were here already.

Jun 23, 2009, 5:27pm (top)Message 191: jugglingpaynes

Good News: All paperwork has been submitted to the school.

Bad News: Sick to my stomach. :oP I hope I feel better soon, because I have a cake to bake.

Good News: Tomorrow is my husband's birthday.

Jun 23, 2009, 7:23pm (top)Message 192: Ms_Bella

Going Backwards...
JP: Happy Birthday to your husband and Huzzah for getting your paper work all done!
K: Yay for the mail! I am so glad you are so excited about going back!
Kirby: I second that we have missed you! And I hope everything goes well for your dad tomorrow.
Bib: I am so glad its just a sprain. Hope Motumbo heals quickly!
Mindy: I hope you don't have to keep the rat it your closet for long! *shudders* I don't think I could do it. Tom wants a ball python and I told him it was fine as long as he fed it lol.

GN: I am done with finals!
BN: I know I did horribly on them... not speculation I have seen the grades.
GN: I am taking the summer off school to read and such.
BN: I still have to work... boo
GN: My hours have been changed from 9-6 to 830-530...so I get out a half hour earlier without losing money!

GN: I'm taking a day of vacation tomorrow to do a few things around the house that I want to get done before the baby comes.
GN: My mom is coming over to help me get laundry done and sort stuff in the nursery.
BN: We have to replace both toilets, as they've started leaking.
GN: We found toilets last night that we're happy with, and the total cost including installation is a few hundred dollars less than our tax refund.
GN: The plumber is available to come install them tomorrow morning, so my husband won't have to take time off later this week.

Jun 23, 2009, 9:31pm (top)Message 194: foggidawn

GN: Today I finally finished digging up a big hunk of concrete from my yard. It looks like it was once some sort of post (maybe a clothesline pole; it was right under the existing clothesline) but all that was left was the concrete and a jagged metal stump sticking up about an inch from the ground.
BN: I'm tired and sweaty and dusty -- just sitting in front of the computer for a few minutes to gather up enough energy to go take a shower.

Jun 23, 2009, 9:59pm (top)Message 195: MrAndrew

Just news: Changes at work means i pick up a bunch more responsibility and workload, starting immediately.
BN: No additional moola. In fact salary is restructured so that means less take-home pay.
GN: At least i keep my job
GN: It's only work, so it's not important in the grand scheme of things.
BN: I will be on LT a lot less.

Jun 23, 2009, 10:19pm (top)Message 196: compskibook

Mr. A! Less LT! Say it ain't so! Espy has pretty much abandoned us for work, too. Where have all the slackers gone?

Jun 23, 2009, 10:45pm (top)Message 197: 06nwingert

GN: I'm back from vacation in St. Maarten (where I had a wonderful time and read 4 books on the beach) and am cough up on LT and everything else.
BN: I'm back from the beach; I wish I was still on the beach.

Jun 23, 2009, 10:54pm (top)Message 198: mindylou182

#190 K, it usually takes a week or so. It just depends on if all the skin comes off in one piece or if little pieces fall off.

Jun 24, 2009, 2:57am (top)Message 199: Kerian

#191 jp:
I hope you feel much better soon. Please tell Mr. JP happy birthday from us.

#192 bella:
Thanks. Good wishes for your final grades. I hope you enjoy your summer break from classes. :)

#195 MrA:
:( We will miss you.

#197 wingert:
Glad you had a good vacation!

#198 mindy:
Oh, goose bumps. I wish your python a remarkably speedy shedding.

Good news: I've been invited to a baby shower for a sweet temp boss I had earlier this year and will get to go to the baby shower with a co-worker.
More good news: My kid sister has survived the first day of summer school and seems to have stepped over a very good line today.

Jun 24, 2009, 6:40am (top)Message 200: LadyN

BN: busy busy busy!!!

Jun 24, 2009, 8:54am (top)Message 201: grkmwk

BN: The plumber just called and the store did not have one of our toilets in stock as the inventory showed, so no installation today.
GN: The toilet should be in tomorrow, and my husband's work schedule is flexible enough that he can meet the plumber for the installation tomorrow.

Jun 24, 2009, 11:44am (top)Message 202: ejj1955

>201

Yay for that. When it comes to indoor plumbing, I'm definitely a fan ;-)

Jun 24, 2009, 12:24pm (top)Message 203: LadyN

I'm thinking of training to be a plumber...

Jun 24, 2009, 12:28pm (top)Message 204: LadyN

News: I must confess I'm a little bit drunk. The Boss of Bosses (in terms of our theatre, not the mafia) took us all out for lunch today, which was lovely. I was going to have only one glass of champagne. This did not happen, and as already mentioned, I am drunk. Boss of Bosses made a toast to me, which was very sweet.

I now have to get through an evening of Shakespeare at the Globe with my parents. Before the show we are having dinner, which is sure to involve more wine. I am not sure this is for the best....

Jun 24, 2009, 1:51pm (top)Message 205: ejj1955

>204

LadyN, I'll trade places with you--you can have your choice of tuna salad or three-day-old stir-fry, preceded and followed by work on bibliographies, and I'll go with your parents to dinner and the Globe. Okay?

Jun 24, 2009, 3:34pm (top)Message 206: Kerian

Heehee. The Globe sounds so cool! I really want to see it someday.

Best of luck, LadyN!

Good news: I have today off work.
Bad news: Two dead cat toys in a single day. They're going to have to be tossed.

What's the red light thingy on the Enterprise? The part on the end of the two cylindrical doohickeys? It doesn't work in cherries.

*Leaves that for everyone to puzzle out.*

Jun 24, 2009, 6:14pm (top)Message 209: pollysmith

Try pimentoes

Jun 24, 2009, 6:25pm (top)Message 210: biblioholic29

I don't think pimentoes would be very good on cake.

(Looking forward to those pics JP!)

ETA: Red Hots maybe?

We decided to just squish the cherry on right before he saw it. Unfortunately, Scottie wasn't available to fix the problem before the ship met with a tragic accident. An enemy vessel just cut through the ship.

Bad News: Didn't make very much money tonight at work.
Good News: I made quite a bit of money last night.
Good News: I have tomorrow off =D

#167 Congrats! I guess you're now graduated!

#169 Up was a great movie! It was cute and funny. I almost cried during it, but I managed to hold back my tears.

#211 The cake looks great!

Good news: It's summer! (and not just as in vacation)
Bad news: I haven't done much. I'm really hoping my summer gets more fun (since I'm off school, does that mean I should say funner?).
Good news: Not in school automatically means I'm having more fun then normal.
Bad news: I still haven't gotten the book I need to read... :(

Jun 25, 2009, 1:25pm (top)Message 214: littlegeek

JP, that cake looks awesome.

GN: Went to the Giants/A's game last night and sat right next to the visiting (Giants) dugout. Got some great pictures, and Aurilia tossed the ball in after the 7th and hubby caught it! It has Randy Johnson's palm sweat on it! Woo hoo!
BN: So much work to do, I have almost no time for LT.
GN: Still love you all and send hugs.

#211 jp:
You always make the coolest cakes, never two alike. :)

#212 mindy:
Do you get tips at work? I'm not allowed any. Someone just gave me my first tip ever this week and ran out of the store: $1. I had to give it to my work. ;)

#214 LG:
One of my co-workers went to that game, too. We love you, too! *hugs* We will see you when we can see you. And July! Huzzah.

Jun 25, 2009, 3:57pm (top)Message 216: lefty33

Awesome cake as always, JP! Just curious: how many hours do such cakes take? (or do you prefer not to think about that?) Much impressed!

Jun 25, 2009, 4:21pm (top)Message 217: suge

Umm... do you guys know how some people call me Sugeypants? Well now you guys really have a reason to do so. MY PANTS BROKE!!! I have no idea how long I've been running around with an enormous hole in my upper thigh, nor HOW it happened??? I am sooooo screwed, guys! I'm going to have to tip toe down the block for new ones!! Gah I loved these pants. I got them at Anthropologie and they were absolutely perfect!!!! WAAAAAAA!

No good news. Right now my life sucks in every way.

Jun 25, 2009, 5:16pm (top)Message 218: picolina

Awww, I'm sooo sorry to hear that Suge!!! I hate it when you have to get rid of a piece of clothing you really like!

GN: GRAD WAS AMAZING YESTERDAY!!!!
BN: One of my best friends moved this morning :( It sucks so after she left the party yesterday my friends and I were totally bummed :(

#217 *whispers* if you find an item of clothing that you absolutely love, it is a good idea to buy a second (or even third) piece and stash them somewhere just in case.

Good news or bad news, depending: Michael Jackson died today...

Jun 25, 2009, 7:20pm (top)Message 223: MsDonna

ETA: That was an old hoax :0. I guess he is dead.

#222 It's a Hoax.
Excerpt from email forward:

Subject: SHOCKING NEWS

SANTA BARBARA, CA-During a search for evidence at the Neverland Valley Ranch, investigators discovered a corpse that has been identified as that of Michael Jackson, Santa Barbara police officials announced Tuesday. "Coroners have officially pronounced Michael Jackson dead. From what we can tell, he died between 18 and 20 years ago," forensic investigator Tim Holbrooke said. "We are not certain, at this time, who-or what-has been standing trial in that Santa Maria courthouse."

#217: Sorry about your pants, sugey-pants! I hate it when some really comfortable, nice-looking piece of clothing gets town or stained.

#224: Agreed. I've never been a fan of his, but it's quite strange and shocking to think that he's gone.

BN: I'm having trouble finishing books. I have several started, and tons more that I need to read, but I seem to be in a sort of slump. I think work has me so exhausted lately that I don't have the mental energy to focus on stories.
GN: This week is almost over! It's been one crazy week.

I'm sorry about the pants situation. Thank goodness there are clothing stores nearby!

#221 Donna:
ROFL!
We've missed you, Donna! *hugs*

#225 foggi:
I hope you have some time off soon so you may rest and relax.

Good news: I found Inkheart!!! I was so happy! I found the movie while I was out buying cat food.
Bad news: My happy mood evaporated. Scales are not my friends.

#225: I'm also having a bit of a reading slump. I've got at least 5 different books going and can't seem to get interested in any of them. I'm going to give my ER a try and if that doesn't work then July will be moved up a couple days and I'll start my annual HP reread.

I felt an initial shock regarding Michael Jackson. I was in the car when the DJ announced it on my station and then played Smooth Criminal, which is a great song and I cranked it up. However, I can't say that I've enjoyed anything he's done since the '80s so, I don't really feel the "loss to the music world" everyone's talking about on the news.

BN: Nothing like coming in to 3 emails from three different people having various degrees of computer issues.
GN: One was super easy, just required and email reminder on how to do what he was asking and done.
GN: One was middling easy, I'll have to spend sometime with her today watching her enter info into the DB I made her, because she's not sure she remembers how to do it.
BN: One was in the code and while I know what the problem is, I'm not sure exactly how to fix it, so we're going to have to bring someone in.
GN: I was able to come up with a patch to make the program usable until the code can be fixed.
JN: I have no IT training and am occasionally confused as to why any of this is my job...

ETA: Haha! LT tried to eat my post but I copied it and saved it!

G/B news: I probably shouldn't say all that's going on so I'll just say there are some major changes going on at work. I've been every emotion but relaxed and happy. There are two hours until I can stress more or calm down some.

BN: I don't think my cure will work for foggi.

#239 -- If I had a favorite pub (or, indeed, any pub at all), I could sit outside it and drink something else . . . though right now the appetizers would have to be low-carb (and there aren't many low-carb appetizers, let me tell you), so maybe I will have to find my own cure. I'm planning on working on it tomorrow, though -- I have the day off, and plan to do some serious reading, possibly outside if it's not too hot.

Bad news: My laptop decided to stop working. Or rather it works, but it doesn't connect to the internet. I bet it's pouting just because I said I was going to buy a new one...
Good news: I went on my mom's laptop. I could also go on the comp upstairs that me and my brother share. It's good to live with a dad who's a computer geek. :)
Good news: I should be buying a new one realllly soon.
Bad news: My cell phone is acting weird too. What's supposed to be blue is orange and vice versa. I'm confused...it started doing this yesterday but would go back to normal in a few minutes. But now it's not.

How awful! I'm sorry your camera was stolen.

Bad news: I had to say goodbye to a co-worker who is leaving today.
Good news: I get tomorrow off work, which means I actually get to spend time with my mother.
G/B news: I'm chopping off an as of yet undetermined length of my hair then, too. Right now it's almost three feet long. I hate cutting it, but I want to cut it. Nervousness and happiness. ;)

Jun 27, 2009, 9:19am (top)Message 250: lefty33

Wow! My 11 inches in nothing to what you have, K! Are you donating or just want a new style?

Jun 27, 2009, 11:12am (top)Message 251: pollysmith

Wow K! thats a big decision! My hair at its longest reached I guess about fouteen inches MEM ,as has been mentioned can sit on her hair so I would say its about four feet long and so thick that it would cover the heads of three normal people!

Jun 27, 2009, 12:51pm (top)Message 252: grkmwk

GN: The toilets got installed and work perfectly!
GN: We got up early to hit the farmers market and scored some great stuff: cherries (thought I'd gotten the last of 'em last week, but apparently not, so lucky us!), new potatoes, cucumbers, strawberry jelly, plum jelly, whole wheat bread, two slices of German chocolate upside down cake, an arrangement of flowers, peaches, and two pimento cheese scones for breakfast. Yum!!
GN: As I can't reach my toes these days, I treated myself to a pedicure this morning, which means I'll have very pretty toes in the delivery room (whenever that may be...).
GN: My husband's family is coming to our house this afternoon for our niece's 3rd birthday party, and all we have to do is supply the house, the grill and the drinks!
BN: It's summer in the South, which means that both the temp and the humidity are 90+, but so it goes. :o)

Jun 27, 2009, 1:04pm (top)Message 253: foggidawn

#252 -- I know it's not what you meant, but
"...an arrangement of flowers, peaches, and two pimento cheese scones..."
brought to my mind a kind of still-life image, with the flowers and the peaches and the scones arranged on a table together!

Maybe that should have gone on the misreading thread.

Anyhow. . .

GN: Saturday!! Saturdayyyyy!! And I don't have to work tomorrow, either, so I'm going to go visit friends tomorrow.
BN: Serious lack of motivation here . . . I need to get up and do stuff, but it's just much more tempting to sit around and do nothing all day.
GN: I've gotten some reading done, at least, which was one of my goals for the day.

#249 K: Wow K! Good luck making that decision! I remember when my hair was down to my hips (2/3 feet long) and I cut it up to my shoulders. It was amazing how....fresh I felt. I felt like I could actually feel the wind, you know. :P

#252 grk: That is hot! (Meaning the temperature.) We had that all week and all I wanted to do was just sit around and go to the beach, but we still had 2 days of school last week. But I think I shouldn't complain, considering the heat wave that killed dozens of people in India (or so the news people say.)

#248 Oh that's awful that somebody would steal your camera!

#249 I know what you're going through. When I was younger, I had my hair so long I could sit on it. But then I cut 10 inches off and then 6 inches the next time. It's now to about my waist, 20 inches. So still not short haha.

Bad news: Well my computer still has no connection and my phone's colors are still crazy.
Bad news: Band camp starts Monday, 3 weeks into our summer. Boring.
Bad news: I remembered that I'm going to miss all my senior friends. :(
Good news: At least I'm not in school?

Jun 27, 2009, 2:10pm (top)Message 256: Kerian

#250 lefty:
Donating it is always something I want to do but...maybe I'm too vain? People leave your hair so short when you do that, and that's something that scares me. I've felt at a great loss whenever I've had it at the shortest lengths it's been. You can guess hair cuts as a kid resulted in tears. I remember when I was between five and seven crying and telling the person who cut my hair to glue it back. ;) New style, I think.

#251 polly:
I've never seen my own mother's hair long. Hers was probably the same as yours or shorter at its longest. MEM's hair sounds beautiful. Mine used to be thick, not quite as much as MEM's, but enough for two people. It's something that makes me sad now.

#252 grmwk:
Aside from the heat I would say that's all great news. :)

#253 foggi:
I can almost hear you singing. Enjoy your free weekend! :)

#254 pico:
Yes! It's cut and suddenly your head drops forward from the removal of the pressure to hold your head up under the weight of your hair. Your neck suddenly feels very cool and exposed, and I don't mean to vampires. ;)

#255 Chelsea:
I've had it that long, too. Not fun. You know those classroom chairs that grab your hair on the back rest and pull your hair out? Not fond memories!
Do you have phone numbers of your friends who graduated this year? You should hang out this summer. Remember so long as they have people they care about there, they may go away, but they will come back. :)

Bad news: Someone left the front door open this morning so we had our first cat count at 8:30am. During the search I went out front, saw what was really smashed leaves, but got horribly upset because I was groggy and it was bright, so I thought I was seeing a dead Tipi run over by a car. Oh. Dear Tipi.

Jun 27, 2009, 3:47pm (top)Message 257: lefty33

So did you find all the kitties, K?

Jun 27, 2009, 5:48pm (top)Message 258: jugglingpaynes

#256: Kerian, they don't just chop your hair off. You can tell them how much you want to donate and that's all they will take. I think the usual amount is 8 inches?

Jun 27, 2009, 7:02pm (top)Message 259: Kerian

#257 lefty:
Yes! Aloft had been in my bed and Slinky roaming about. There were only the younger two to hunt for.

#258 jp:
Wow! I'd only heard of them putting a rubber band near the nape of your neck and having them cut the pony tail off. That will make it a lot better next hair cut so I can donate!

Good news: Hair is cut and I love it. It's sixteen inches now. The last person spend thirty seconds doing my layers so I was really happy how long this person spent on them.
G/B news: The huge sycamore in our front yard is getting a 'trim' but they went way overboard. It won't be a bother to neighbors anymore, though.

Jun 27, 2009, 8:25pm (top)Message 260: biblioholic29

GN: Just discovered that the 2008 Doctor Who Xmas special is premiering tonight!
JN: Going to be cat-sitting next week. Should give me a good idea as to whether I can handle a cat in my apartment.

Jun 27, 2009, 8:26pm (top)Message 261: lefty33

A kitty for Bib! How exciting! Is the cat coming to you then?

Jun 27, 2009, 8:45pm (top)Message 262: Kerian

Awww! How long are you cat-sitting for, bib?

Jun 27, 2009, 9:45pm (top)Message 263: ChelseaBottomley

#258 I wanted to donate my hair one time, but 8 inches wasn't enough! And I wasn't going to cut more lol.

Bad news: My cell phone has a problem with it's hard drive.
Good news: It still works enough that I can text and call.
Good news: I'm getting a new one. I'm hoping a different kind.
Bad news: Computer still weird.

Jun 27, 2009, 11:47pm (top)Message 264: jugglingpaynes

For Locks of Love the minimum is 10 inches.

For Beautiful Lengths it's 8 inches.

For Wigs for Kids it's 12 inches.

When I donated, I used Locks of Love. The hair salon I went to gave a free cut with your donation.

Jun 28, 2009, 3:07am (top)Message 265: ChelseaBottomley

#264 Well I didn't actually look into the donating organizations. We asked my hair person but she told us 8 inches wasn't enough. Whatever. Can't you use it for bangs?

ETA: #256 Well my two best senior friends are on Facebook and I have their numbers so I could call both and text one. It's just I'm going to miss not seeing them a lot. But it's true, I can still talk to them.

Jun 28, 2009, 8:05pm (top)Message 274: grkmwk

#253 - foggi, it's ironic that you mentioned that my post made you think of a still life image, as when I set my breakfast on the table this morning (consisting mostly of constituent parts from the farmers market), it looked so lovely that I wanted to take a picture of it! I didn't, though, as the digital camera is already packed for the hospital and I didn't feel like digging it out. :o)

GN: Yesterday's family birthday party was a lot of fun, and thanks to my MiL insisting that we use paper plates and napkins, clean up was a breeze!
G/BN: My lower back really started aching this afternoon, and I've had some funky pains in my lower abs, which may or may not be early signs of labor. If they are, yay! If they aren't, then this really isn't pleasant and I'd like it to stop!!

Jun 28, 2009, 8:33pm (top)Message 275: foggidawn

GN: Had a nice day with friends I hadn't seen in a few years.
BN: When I got home this evening, I ripped my favorite new skirt! It's right along the seam, so I'm hoping I can fix it, but grrrrr!

in random order:

#274 grkmwk- !! It's those lower back pains that are the good ones. They are the ones that do the work. Good luck if this is it and if not, I hope they are aiding the process! LOL

Hair: I may have a lot of it but I've seen pictures of Kerian's and it is much prettier than mine. I would probably have to pay someone to make a wig out of it. 8)

Foggi and Suge- Why is it always the favorite piece of clothing that rips? Why not the blah- could- care-less piece?

Mindy- Aakkk! I hope you found it!

Kasongo- mmmmm Mexican! That's my favorite type of food. 8)

Chelsea- I was a year older than most in my class thanks to my BDAY so I was always friends with upperclassmen. I went to junior prom in tenth, cut class to hang out in commons, and so forth. I was really adrift, friend wise, as they started to graduate.

#276 re Foggi and Suge: Silly. They wouldn't be wearing the blah-couldn't-care-less piece!

Good news: I posted catbastet's crafts.

Jun 28, 2009, 10:47pm (top)Message 278: mindylou182

Well. I ended up finding a rat. After I took a shower, I went to my dresser (which is in my closet) and when I opened the drawer the rat was sitting and staring at me. I screamed a little from shock. But it took me about twenty minutes to finally catch it by its tail. Needless to say, the rat is now dead and being digested...

Jun 28, 2009, 10:49pm (top)Message 279: ejj1955

Well, that'll teach it.

GN: Home from Vegas.
GN: Had a great time.
GN: I'm 15 cents up!
GN: Mariano Rivera got his 500th save. And an RBI, who would have ever thunk it?!

#275 foggi:
I'm sorry about your skirt! I hope it can be fixed.

#276 MEM:
You're very sweet. I will take your mom's word on your hair, however. I bet it is lovely. :)

#278 mindy:
*shudders*

#279 ejj:
KIK!

#280 LG:
Welcome home!

Good news: The 7th edition of the Schmap New York guide will indeed be using two of my photos!
Bad news: One of the dogs tore the screen door up completely because my neighbors have been crazy and thinking it's been Independence Day every day since last Monday. (Grr!)
Good news: All cats accounted for again and the dogs are locked up listening to 80's and 90's music to cover the scary sound of fireworks.

BN Work has been stinky
BN something is wrong with my car (whirring sound trouble with the steering)

GN I saw a goldfinch the other morning
GN I will get to see foggi when she comes to town
GN I get to see my family and visit Montana and see old friends from undergrad next month

Jun 29, 2009, 4:06pm (top)Message 283: lefty33

Oh good! The rat has been found.

Welcome back, LG!

Congrats on the photos being used, K!

I'm glad you got a moment to come say hi, Maren. Boo for car trouble.

BN: Husband sprained his ankle pretty badly playing basketball yesterday. When he got home his ankle looked like he had a baseball under the skin. The swelling has gone down a lot now, but he definitely isn't walking on it any time soon.

GN: Whether husband is well again or not, we're going to an Aerosmith concert on Wednesday! :) We might be borrowing a wheelchair or crutches from someone.

GN: This is my last week of alteration work until August.

Jun 29, 2009, 5:52pm (top)Message 284: Marensr

Thanks Lefty. The fan belt actually broke as dear Rom was taking it to the mechanic. Ugh. Well we know at least what part of the problem is and he is a good husband to be out there getting the car towed and generally taking care of things today.

I am sorry to hear about your husband I hope you have fun at Aerosmith!

Jun 29, 2009, 10:05pm (top)Message 285: grkmwk

MEM - thanks for confirming that the lower back pains are the good kind to have! So far, nothing has progressed beyond the pain stage, but I'm taking the positive road and being thankful that I'm at least having the types of pains that do lead to labor - yay for my body prepping itself!!

GN: The weather today was much more pleasant: highs in the upper 80s with lower humidity.
GN: It appears this weather pattern will hold through the week.

Jun 29, 2009, 10:56pm (top)Message 286: cmbohn

When are you due, grkmwk? I hope it all goes well for you!

Jun 29, 2009, 11:41pm (top)Message 287: jugglingpaynes

Good luck grkmwk! My first labor was the only one that gave me clues I was in labor. When I was pregnant with my son I spent half a day wondering if this was it. :o)

May your labor be quick and easy!

Jun 30, 2009, 12:11am (top)Message 288: lefty33

I'm so excited for you, Grk! :D

Jun 30, 2009, 12:34am (top)Message 289: PollyAnnaHP

Kerian: Wow that's a lot of hair, When I was younger I kept mine long atleast until kindergarten when I got a whod (sp?) of gum stuck in it. I cried for days after it was cut.

Now I can't grow long hair, it is too fine and looks raggety when long so I keep it just below my shoulders now.

My hubby wen through a sort of midlife crises thing a while back and grew his hair long, I have to admit it was beautiful (naturally curly), he donated it to locks for love in January.

Foggi: sorry about your skirt!

Grkm: Good luck with the labor!

GN: My youngest daughter comes home from Chicago tomorrow! Yay =)
BN: I paid for express shipping on my camera b/c it said 1-3 days on amazon, but in the confirmation email I got today it said 1-5 days! UUUGGGHHHH I need my camera by Sunday night!

Jun 30, 2009, 6:20am (top)Message 290: LadyN

GN: I've managed two gym sessions in as many days, so I'm uch happier with myself.
BN: I'm quite tired.

GN: THe sun is shining, shining, shining!!! It seems we are having a summer in the UK this year. I'm taking lunch in the park today :-)

eta: Good luck Grk!!! We look forward to welcoming grk jnr to the HE!

BN> I lost my job! Now I begin the long process of applying for a new one. It seems so daunting and doubts creep into my mind to harress me when I'm trying to sleep or rest.

GN> Okay a little bit of good news is I am getting some stuff down around the house

Jun 30, 2009, 5:08pm (top)Message 296: elbakerone

295 - So sorry, polly. :( My husband has been working temp jobs since getting laid off last fall. He still hasn't found anything permanent but people keep saying that the market really is turning around for the better. Best of luck and encouragement to you in job searching!

BN: I got poison ivy.

GN: I didn't have to work yesterday cause I was at the doctor's office, so aside from a quick check up to confirm that it was poison ivy I got to hang out and relax at home.

BN: Poison ivy is as itchy and annoying and as irritating as you can imagine.

GN: They put me on some anti-inflammatory and anti-itching medicine.

BN: Both drugs cause drowsiness and I'm back at work today with a very slooooow working brain.

GN: The meds really do help with the irritation.

Jun 30, 2009, 5:14pm (top)Message 297: compskibook

I am so sorry to hear about your job, Polly. Good luck!

Good news: I no longer live in a fishbowl. My plantation blinds are up!

Bad news: No hoop skirts :) wait, that may be good!

#292 Chels: Omg, I've been wanting to get a phone like the second one! That's awesome, congrats! And I'm sorry to hear about your computer....at least you might get a new one right?

#295 polly: I'm so sorry to hear about your job polly! Good luck job-searching!

GN: Kero's graduating from puppy class today!!!
BN: It's been raining ever since Sunday, and I'm afraid it might rain tomorrow. This is a problem because tomorrow's Canada Day and I really don't want to be standing in the rain.
GN: We're going to Montreal tomorrow and for the rest of the week to visit my godparents!

#282 Maren:
We miss you! Sorry about your car. I hope it improves so you may watch HBP with some HEers. Have fun with foggi and visiting family and old friends!

#283 lefty:
Enjoy the concert! I hope your hubby's sprained ankle heals soon.

#289 PollyAnna:
My hair looks a little raggedy itself when long. The biggest comment I've had from my hair cut is how much thicker my hair looks at its new length.

#291 cat:
Thanks! Also, the dogs are still doing much better.

#292 Chelsea:
I can only oddly see half the picture but that looks a lot like the phone my mom and kid sister each have.

#295 polly:
I'm so sorry you lost your job! I hope you may find one soon with people who treat you kinder.

#296 el:
Feel better soon!

#297 compski:
What a beautiful room! Everything is perfectly color cordinated. It looks incredibly peaceful. And a wall-chandelier! *waves to Gregor*

#298 pico:
Congrats to Kero! I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.

Good news: I seem to be picking up loads of extra hours at work this week, a week that had started off quite poorly hour-wise.
Great news: My kid sister's in summer school and has had a dramatic improvement. She's always done with her work first and the teachers are using her as the good example.

Jun 30, 2009, 6:30pm (top)Message 300: littlegeek

Bummer, polly. This economy is sucky.

GN: Nothing I have to do tonight, or the next two days. Lots of baseball watching in my future.

#296: Sorry about the poison ivy, el.

BN: My HBP copy was falling a little bit apart.
GN: My mom fixed it.
BN: In the process she glued a little part of the text from 2 pages coz she put too much glue.
GN: I was able to separate the pages and it can still be read.
GN: Only 2 and a half more weeks of classes and then I'm free!!
GN: I already gave the ticket money for the trip to my friend's mom and she will buy them on Monday!!
GN: I'm going to buy the tickets for the premiere of HBP!! (sorry you guys, but there isn't much to do around here and I can't join the boycott(sp?) of not watching it the day it comes out)

Jun 30, 2009, 7:21pm (top)Message 302: Ms_Bella

Polly: Sorry about your job that really is horrible
Pico: Congrats on Kero graduating and I am hoping for no rain for you!
Chels: Congrats on the new phone
K: I am happy for your sister's improvement! And Happy that you are getting more hours.

BN: Kitty has been acting funny for the past couple of days
Really Really Horrible News: I had my aunts vet look at her and he said that the damage that was caused by the fleas is irreparable. She has had them so long that they messed with her immune system and even if I manage to use the suggestions to get rid of the fleas she is going to slowly deteriorate until she dies. He suggested putting her down because for her it is going to be extreamly painful. Tomorrow I have to take her to be put to sleep.

Too lazy to go back up and check references, but:

Bella: I'm so sorry, that's horrible.
Polly: That sucks! I'm sorry, job hunting is the worst!
Ron: I must have missed it somewhere...what trip?

News: The cats are here. So far they've hid under the bed. One came out for a couple minutes, then heard someone in the hall and went back under the bed.

Jun 30, 2009, 9:25pm (top)Message 312: foggidawn

Boy, lots of bad news today! I'm sorry about your job, Polly, and I hope you find a better one soon. I'm sorry to hear about your kitty, Bella. *hugs* And I hope your poison ivy clears up soon, el! (No hugs for you, though!)

On the other hand, Compski, that room is lovely, and Gregor's chair looks so comfy! Does he let you sit in it sometimes? I need to get some nice window treatments for my living room -- the ones that came with the house are pink and don't match my furniture (and I don't like them). The living room is the room that I've done the least amount of work on so far, though. It's waiting until some other rooms are finished.

Er, where was I? Oh, the GN/BN thread!

GN: I'm really excited about the month of July! I get to meet several HEers, go to a couple fun things (conference, movie meet-up), and the fact that it's July means my Summer Reading Program is halfway over! Yayyy!

And I can't think of any bad news at the moment, so that's good news, too.

Jun 30, 2009, 10:00pm (top)Message 315: compskibook

Bella, that is awful. My thoughts will be with you the next few days.

Foggi, Gregor sits where-ever he wants and I am aloud to sit anywhere else :) He does like this chair the best, because he can see up and down the street. That way he can be ready to protect the house from evil bikers, vicious UPS men, and *gasp* the paper girl!

Jun 30, 2009, 10:38pm (top)Message 316: picolina

Omg, that's terrible Bella!!! Awww, I hate losing a pet. But look at it the positive way..She won't suffer any longer right?

#315 compski:
Typical seating arrangements in a house with a pet. :)

Good news: My 23-year-old sister found a safer place to live and is moving soon.
Bad news: The cat who belongs to the man she's currently renting a room from is hiding somewhere. I'm hoping he'll turn up and she'll take him because his owner can't care for him anymore.

Bella: I'm so sorry about your kitty, is the vet saying it is anemia?
Polly: Sorry about losing your job Polly, I hope there is something a lot better around the corner for you.
Bib: Don't take your minding experience for how it will be with your own cat. When we moved with our cats, they didn't come out of our spare room for days.

GN: I finally, for once in my life left neutral feedback on EBAY for someone who attempted to rip me off. I had decided initially that I wasn't going to leave any feedback, but after I saw that they left awful retaliatory feedback for a person who purchased the same item, I decided there was no way I couldn't back them up.
GN: I had a very frank chat to my manager today about the way it is going to be and she was very receptive.
BN: I didn't win the $100 million in OZ lotto :( I was sure I was going to win this time ;)

Polly: I'm so sorry to hear you lost your job. I'm sending good thoughts your way for quickly finding a new one!
El: Sorry 'bout the itching - never fun. :o/
Bella: I'm really sad to hear about your cat. Thoughts are with you.

GN: It's July, which means we are definitely in the month in which our son will be born!
BN: I still have no idea when that will be!! My due date is this Friday, but only 5% of babies are born on their due date, so I'm not really holding my breath that Friday it will be.
GN: At least I'm not feeling miserable. :o)

Jul 1, 2009, 8:49am (top)Message 321: biblioholic29

GN: The cats came out from under the bed at bedtime of course.
BN: One of them decided it was time to make friends at 1:30 AM.
BN: They both meow a lot
BN: I'm a light sleeper
BN: I live in a studio apartment.

This has been one of my major hesitations in having a pet at the moment, because I wake up at every little noise and pets make noise. In CA, I had a separate bedroom and I closed the door at night and the cats had the rest of the place. Can't be done here. I'm thinking I'll be petless for a while. Can't wait until Tuesday when I'll be able to sleep again.

Jul 1, 2009, 9:01am (top)Message 322: jugglingpaynes

bib, it could be that they just need time to explore, then they'll settle down at night. Most of our cats sleep all night. Are the cats Siamese/part Siamese? We've been watching Cats 101 and they said Siamese talk the most. Our black cats don't talk much at all. Merlin only cries if my son locks him out of his (my son's) bedroom.

Jul 1, 2009, 9:29am (top)Message 323: lefty33

Larry talks all the time. He would be a very bad roommate for you, Bib.

Jul 1, 2009, 9:32am (top)Message 324: jugglingpaynes

Larry is deaf, right? Do you think maybe he can hear his own voice, and that's why he talks so much?

Jul 1, 2009, 10:11am (top)Message 325: biblioholic29

No Siamese, one is all black, one is a black and white long hair. The black one seems to have picked a few favorite spots and settled pretty quickly with occasional meow. The other one wandered around, crying half the night and then came over to the bed and meowed at me till I petted her. Loudly.

Jul 1, 2009, 10:26am (top)Message 326: lefty33

JP, Larry is indeed deaf. We've wondered the same thing. He also may not know how loud he is being. Either that or he's learned the louder he is, the faster we get his breakfast. ;)

Jul 1, 2009, 11:07am (top)Message 327: mindylou182

Good News: I will be getting The Amulet of Samarkand on PBS =D Yay hardcovers!

Jul 1, 2009, 1:25pm (top)Message 328: catbastet

Polly: I hope you are able to find a new job!

Bella: I am so sorry about your cat. We have had to put cats to sleep too. It's never easy. *hugs*

Bib: It could be that the cats are confused right now. They've just been taken to a place they don't recognize at all, and everything smells different. Maybe once they've been with you a while, they'll calm down. Or it could be that the one cat just loves a lot of attention. ;)

Jul 1, 2009, 3:39pm (top)Message 329: 06nwingert

GN: Advance tickets to HBP are now avilable! I purchased mine last night! T- 2 weeks and counting!!

#296 I hope the poison ivy clears up.

#298 Pico, it's actually one phone. It slides 2 ways. :) And it also helps that I have other computers I can go on.
Congrats to Kero!

#299 Good news for your sister!

#302 I'm so sorry Bella. :( Losing a pet is hard. *hugs*

#306-310 LOL

#320 Exciting!

Bib-Good luck with the cats. Hopefully they will calm down once they get used to your place.

Good news: Band camp is going well. Easier than last year and now I'm not a newbie! I like nowing how to do everything.
Bad news: It gets hot! And I'm talking about inside, not outside. The AC controlled from San Diego isn't working again. *sigh*
Good news: Only two more days!

Jul 1, 2009, 4:03pm (top)Message 331: pollysmith

thanks all! It feels good to have such support!

Jul 1, 2009, 4:25pm (top)Message 332: Kerian

#321 bib:
Maybe when you're not in a studio.

RE cats talking:
None of mine are that quiet. Slinky and Tipi sing long songs here and there, Tumble talks at all hours, and Aloft mrah's for water ( water = love ) whenever she's not sleeping. I did have a cat once who rarely spoke at all. For coat color sake, she was mostly white with a little grey.

#326 lefty:
One of my high school sign language instructors said the homes she'd been inside where deaf families lived were always louder than the homes she'd been in of hearing families. It was just from things like dishwashers, hair dryers, etc, though.

Jul 1, 2009, 5:53pm (top)Message 333: Ms_Bella

Thanks Everyone. I am packing up her stuff now... well.. not right now... in a bit... I think it will be a while before I get another pet. After not being able to take Goober with me to the apartment and now with Kitty I think I needa leave from the pet thing.

GN: I also got a nap
GN: It's stone-fruit season!

Jul 1, 2009, 8:15pm (top)Message 336: picolina

333 Bella: *hugs* I know it's hard. Hopefully you heal soon. My thoughts are with you.

Bib: I remember when we got my first cat he meowed so much the first night we had to put a cardboard thing so he would stay downstairs. But you have no idea how loud he meowed! So then we closed the doors and brought him upstairs and it was still louder! Finally we had to let him into my room. His purr was amazingly loud too, and everytime I fell asleep he started meowing again so I would keep petting him. That lasted for about a week.... Hopefully you can get some sleep!!

BN: It's raining. :(
BN: I'm typing on a french keyboard and am getting frustrated. I can't find the number key and I keep having to erase stuff because I press something I'm not supposed to.

Bella: Sorry about your cat!
Ron: Have a great trip!
Elba: ooohh Poison Ivy! How horrible!! I hope you find relief soon!

GN: My new Camera arrived today! YAY!! *jumps up & down for joy*
BN:Noone turned in my missing one!

I did write a long post last night, sympathising with all of you who are going through hard times right now, and the detailing my own news, none of which was either here nor there, but it took we a long time. But then my computer ate it, so I stomped off in a bad mood.

I'm still grumpy, but not going to inflict the details on all of you.
At least the sun is still shining!
Mwah! xx

Jul 2, 2009, 9:18am (top)Message 340: biblioholic29

GN: I got a little more sleep last night, there was no meowing anyway.
BN: There was a thunderstorm that woke me up.
BN: I'm still a light sleeper, so every time the cats eat or use the litterbox I wake up.

Jul 2, 2009, 9:24am (top)Message 341: Mandy2

When Pepper was a puppy I woke up to every little thing she did. Every single noise she made. It's better now. With her being house broken and more mature ;). I think It's a woman thing, because Don would never wake up in response to Pepper noises. And you know what I can sleep through.

Jul 2, 2009, 9:41am (top)Message 342: lefty33

I wake up to all of Miles' noises too, Mandy. You're probably right that it's a woman thing.

Normally I'll sleep through anything I'm not supposed to wake up to but I'll wake up to the slightest thing that is intended to wake me up, like a quiet alarm, a soft "hey," Miles becoming restless and needing to go out, those kinds of things. Very handy!

BN: Aerosmith was postponed because of band injury. They're saying Mr Tyler hurt himself at the last show and is still injured. But there are also several more wild stories going about why the postponement.
G/BN: We found out about 15 minutes before we left. Good because we hadn't left, bad because we were pretty much ready to go.
GN: My sister (Megan) is here for a visit! She came yesterday because she was going to puppy-sit, but came anyway and spent the night. :)

Jul 2, 2009, 10:27am (top)Message 343: jugglingpaynes

Yes, it's a woman thing. So that we can take care of the young. I still have that happen with my children. Especially when the youngest sleepwalks while trying to find the bathroom at 3AM (she's usually running right in front of it) or when my son is coughing and having trouble breathing.

My husband will wake up to the coughing if I nudge him at the right moment.

Jul 2, 2009, 11:53am (top)Message 344: MEM82

LOL Yeah, if either of the kids' feet touch the floor beside their bed I am awake instantly. I always blame that on Missie. Once when she was 3 I heard her call my name. As I heaved myself out of bed, I watched her walk past my door, still calling my name softly, go down the stairs and undo both locks on our front door. She was sleep walking and thought I was outside! I still wonder what would have happened if I hadn't heard her. *shudder*

Gracie goes to bed with Missie and actually sleeps better than either one of the kids. LOL She needs her sleep, after putting up with Cole all day. HAHAHA

Rob only wakes up if one of the kids kick him. Suspicious is that. When I kick him he doesn't move at all. hmmmmmm

345> "I Forgot Day"? Man, I totally forgot.

Speaking of forgetting, MEM aren't you due soon? I forgot your due date.

Jul 2, 2009, 3:51pm (top)Message 348: Kerian

#333 Bella:
I know how you feel. I didn't know anything was wrong with my cat last year before the day he died and so thought I was a bad pet owner. *hugs* Maybe there is somewhere special you can put Kitty's things. After a time, I set up Loofy's things somewhere nice and the experience itself was something I can't quite word, but I'm really glad I did it.

#335 bib:
Congratulations! How cute. Hmm. I've never heard of stone-fruit and will have to google.

#339 LadyN:
That's happened to me, too. Don't let those LT elephants and such get to you. I hope you have a better day!

#340 bib:
I'm a light sleeper, too. It took getting used to so I could open my eyes for a few moments when the cats were making noises and then drift back. Last night it was of Tipi climbing shelves.

#342 lefty:
Enjoy your sister's visit! I'm sorry to hear about Aerosmith.

#345 MEM:
KIK. Oh, my mother will love that! ;)

Nice news: My neighbor brought over a plate of fresh baked cookies again.
Sad news: They have coconut in them. (Allergies.)
Bad news: My computer won't pop anything up when I put my camera in it. I can't find it by going to 'Start,' either. (Camera is on, too.)

ETA: Good news: There are Half-Price Books coupons.

Good news: One of the creatures my son created on Spore was featured on the site. This is a big deal since the site has thousands of users for the online game (he said millions, but since I'm not savvy to this gaming world, I figured on a conservative figure!)

Extra good news: I was able to rest a bit today. I can't remember the last time I was able to just hang out at home.

Bad news: Nothing terrible. Knock on wood.

Jul 2, 2009, 5:54pm (top)Message 350: MEM82

LG- Yay Tennis! 8)
JP- You see my due date is actually a bit of a bet between me and OB/GYN. I'm not due until the 23rd but we'll say (to avoid TMI- ness )physically Theo is all systems go and was as of 2 weeks ago. Cole did this when he was 3 weeks out from his due date so I say that Theo will stay in the belly until about his due date also. *knock on wood* MY OB is just a tiny bit skeptical of this. Obviously he doesn't know about how stubborn I can be. I will simply use gravity for my cause and stand on my head for a few weeks. 8) I did tell him that I will try to aim delivery for right around 3 or 4 in the afternoon so he well be able to take the rest of the day off without having to go back to the office afterwards. See how nice I am? I bet every doctor wants a patient like me.

Jul 2, 2009, 5:56pm (top)Message 351: MEM82

Kerian- I have no camera-fixing ideas sorry! If Rob was home I could ask him but sadly he is at work. *gasp* I'm so jealous! My HPB doesn't do coupons but maybe once a year!

Jul 2, 2009, 5:57pm (top)Message 352: MEM82

LOL I meant to link the "Forgot Day" story from ABC news but I keep forgetting for real and now I'm too lazy to go find it again. *sigh*

#349 jp:
Congratulations to your son! That's terrific news. He must be so happy. :)

Bad news: A poorly-looking stray we take care of who we know as Hissy had a litter of kittens in the bushes surrounding the front of our house.

Good news: Hissy, who you can guess by her name isn't too friendly, is allowing me to feed her and give her water without getting too upset. She normally runs off hissing when I do this but has been remaining on the porch and silent.

We won't be adopting them as our porch cats. My grandmother wants to call someone about it. Until Sunday though, I may just be keeping a close eye on her and giving Hissy plenty to drink and eat.

Jul 2, 2009, 6:06pm (top)Message 354: Ms_Bella

GN: I am spending the night at home with tom. We are ordering in and watching Inkheart.
BN: I am really staring to hate my job.

Jul 2, 2009, 6:07pm (top)Message 355: Kerian

I have the slowest computer.

#351 MEM,
No worries! I'm sure it's my computer. It's been bonkers since my little (er, 14 and 18 y/o) cousins used it last month. A HPB suggestion! Have you signed up for their e-mails? I haven't, but my coupon goes on about b(eco)ming greener and receiving coupons and such more often by signing up for them through e-mail.

ETA:

Bella, I watched it last week! I hope things get better at work. *hugs*

Thanks K. Me too.. Of course I am going to start looking for a new job I am just hoping my boss doesn't try and find something to fire me over before I do..

K, if you have the Kodak EasyShare software (it originally would have come on a disk that you had to load on your computer) you can open that before you plug your camera in and it should automatically download the pictures. There may be a shortcut to it on your desktop or you can find it by clicking on "start" and then "programs" and look for Kodak in the list.

Hope this helps!

GN: I finished editing a book for an LT author. I suggested he attend a writers' conference this past weekend and he talked to an agent who wants to read the newly edited version of the book!

More GN: He pays me immediately, so I paid Time Warner today and can continue to enjoy the Internet, my cable, and my telephone (that last is a bit of a mixed blessing!).

Jul 2, 2009, 11:19pm (top)Message 358: foggidawn

GN: On my shopping trip today, I did find a purse that I think I will like.
BN: I did not find any shoes to go with my black dress.

Jul 3, 2009, 4:09am (top)Message 359: Kerian

#357 ejj:
Thank you! I don't think I would have ever thought of that. I know there are different kinds of them but my camera does say Kodak Easy Share on it and maybe did come with a CD. With luck if there's time I'll try tomorrow. :)
That sounds like very cool good news. To edit a book...I love your other good news.

#358 foggi:
Good luck with your further shoe shopping! I hope you find a nice pair at a good price.

Good news:
I'm going to be working a lot Friday through Sunday. A day of sales, a day of fun floorset prep, and a day of - huzzah - floorset changes! Can't wait.
Bad news:
I'll be expected at the usual Independence Day plans, the dinner portion being what I don't like. It's basically because of someone's harsh criticism for my meat choices.

JP, Independence Day rocked last year! Thank you for a fabulous holiday memory.

Glad you had fun last year K! They did their fireworks on Wednesday this year, but we decided not to go since we've been so busy and there has been a lot of cloud cover. Ever watch fireworks in cloud cover? We have. It's like watching the end of Close Encounters. Pretty lit up clouds, but not much else.

Jul 3, 2009, 12:44pm (top)Message 363: LadyN

TAKE THAT concert tomorrow, TAKE THAT cconcert tomorrow, TAKE THAT concert tomorrow!!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...

It's alright! I'm ok!!

TAKE THAT concert tomorrow!!!!!!!

Jul 3, 2009, 3:06pm (top)Message 364: jugglingpaynes

Jul 3, 2009, 3:24pm (top)Message 366: Kerian

#362 JP:
I've never seen fireworks in cloud cover. Seeing fireworks with your family was one of maybe three times that I watched fireworks that go that high. I'm really sorry to hear there was cloud cover this year! Do you have neighbors celebrating at home that your kids may see the fireworks of?

#363/5 LadyN:
What?? :) Heeheehee! Have a great time and tell us all about it later!

Jul 3, 2009, 3:27pm (top)Message 367: LadyN

Oh I will! Oh I'm sooooooooooooooo excited! not only is this supposed to be Take That's best ever show, but it's apparently supposed to be one of the best shows ever staged by anyone. SQUEE!!!! I've been waiting since September!!!!

Jul 3, 2009, 3:29pm (top)Message 368: Kasongo

David Letterman once, a long, long time ago, showed fireworks in the daytime.

Jul 3, 2009, 4:28pm (top)Message 369: lefty33

Ohhhh. And I thought LadyN was telling tomorrow's concert to "take that." Like she was beating it up or overcoming it or something.

Have a lovely time, LadyN!

SQUEEE!!

Jul 3, 2009, 5:10pm (top)Message 371: jugglingpaynes

lol! Have fun LadyN!

#366: Fireworks are illegal in NY except in the officially sponsored affairs. We are going to try to go to some tonight, a little closer to home.

Bad News: Hubby is working late. This is the first year he's ever missed seeing fireworks with the kids. :o(

Jul 3, 2009, 5:15pm (top)Message 372: pollysmith

Enjoy! We will see ours tommorrow (hopefully)

Jul 3, 2009, 8:43pm (top)Message 373: grkmwk

#360 - Well MEM, so far no indication that I need to dash out and buy lotto tix! My husband was actually commenting earlier how ironic it is that women are given due dates when it is statistically much more probable that they will deliver on the day before or after the due date, but not the actual date, as only approx. 5% of babies come on their due date!!

GN: We had a lovely day: slept late, fixed a yummy brunch, went to the movies (Away We Go is quite funny, esp. for folks about to become parents for the first time), knocked about shopping a bit, read and cat-napped on the sun porch, ate dinner while watching baseball on t.v.
BN: It appears that the baby does not want to make his grand entrance today.
GN: At least I feel good!

Jul 3, 2009, 9:12pm (top)Message 374: PollyAnnaHP

LadyN: Have a great time!

GN: Hubby's 36th bday is tomorrow!
BD: We both work
GN: We leave for NY on Sunday night
BN: I might not be on LT for 5 days (I am taking my laptop but I'm not sure if my sister has wireless or not)

Jul 3, 2009, 9:43pm (top)Message 375: lefty33

GN: Mom and I went blueberry picking tonight! :D The picking was excellent and the berries were huge!

BN: There is no bad news when there are blueberries!

Have I ever mentioned that blueberries are my favorite?

Jul 3, 2009, 10:58pm (top)Message 376: jugglingpaynes

Good news: The sky was clear and the fireworks were awesome!

Better news: We had a small shower before the sun set and it gave us a rainbow!!

Best news: Hubby made it to the fireworks!!! He had to park about a mile and a half away, but he managed to get there AND find us!

Jul 4, 2009, 8:37am (top)Message 377: Ms_Bella

GN: I am going tubing in a little bit
GN: II get to stop at Dicks Sporting Goods to buy the tubes, and that is right across the street from B&N.
GN: Tom said that we can stop into barnes and noble so I can grab a book (or three) to read while tubing...
GN: Going to see fireworks tonight! Can't wait!

Jul 4, 2009, 10:28am (top)Message 378: Renald128

#357: Congrats on the editing the book and getting the money right away, Ejj!

#363: Have a great time at the concert, LadyN!

#369: I read it like that too, lefty. I was wondering how could she rub it in the concert's face...kik

#373: Hope everything works well and that you aren't too uncomfortable, grk.

#377:Yayy Books!

GN: I have a birthday party today!
GN: I had a great time yesterday with some friends.
BN: Things didn't go according to plan.
Ok, so supposedly we were supposed to watch movies, and I would take my DVD player coz their DVD doesn't reproduce DIVX (a file format), but then they found out that a pipe had broken in their master bathroom and the bedroom was completely flooded. So I helped them (I mean how could I just leave them to it and say goodbye?) and then we ordered a pizza and after eating we put the movie (The Dark Knight) but we couldn't finish it coz it was so late and we were so exhausted...but all in all I had a great time :D Oh and I left them my DVD player so they could finish watching the movie.
GN: They are already selling the tickets for HBP!!!!!!!
BN: I am freaking out coz I checked on my movie theater's website and they have already sold 50 tickets (out of 152) and I have to wait till they open the movie theater (around noon) for me to get my tickets...

Jul 4, 2009, 6:41pm (top)Message 379: littlegeek

GN: Just saw Public Enemies and enjoyed it. Pretty boys wearing pretty clothes, then shot in extreme closeup, plus a bunch of shootouts.
GN: We're going to an Austin Powers party tonight. I'm wearing the new leopard print pjs I got in Vegas. Yeah, Baby.
GN: From the host's house, we will be able to see all the fireworks festivities around the town, and especially the beach.
GN: Woot, 4th of July!

Jul 4, 2009, 7:48pm (top)Message 380: ejj1955

>379 LG, that sounds so fun! Vegas is definitely the place to get appropriate clothing for an Austin Powers party (and a lot of other types, also!).

Jul 4, 2009, 8:21pm (top)Message 381: LadyN

Happy 4th July everyone!!!

GN: The concert was AMAZING!!! We queued all day and got right to the front, so I have some great pictures. The staging and musical arrangements were phenomenal, and the boys gave everything they had (as always). We got on the big screen a few times too :-)

BN: I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired. Because of getting in late from work and having to prepare food for today, I got to bed at about 12.30. I got up at 5a.m, and of course spent a large part of today standing. After nearly 21 hours on the go, I need sleep.
I just had to come report in here, and wish you happy holidays first!

Jul 4, 2009, 10:23pm (top)Message 382: Ms_Bella

GN: I had a very relaxing day floating on the lake and reading.
BN: I got very very sunburned (even though I used 60 spf sunscreen) you'd think I was part albino
GN: Saw a few fireworks tonight.

Jul 5, 2009, 11:46am (top)Message 383: Renald128

#379: I want to see Public Enemies, and I'm glad you liked it, lg.

#381:It's awesome you had a great time, LadyN. Can't wait to see those pictures.

GN: I got my tickets for HBP for July 15th!!!!!
GN: I got tickets for all my friends and my mom!
BN: I have some studying to do.
GN: It's for my last test that I really have to study in this semester!!
GN: I think I'm doing a HP movie marathon today!

Jul 5, 2009, 5:15pm (top)Message 384: ChelseaBottomley

#381 Yay for an amazing concert!

Good news: I got my new phone on Friday!
Good news: I had lots of fun at the fourth of July at the park yesterday.
Bad news: It was hot!
Good news: I think the band made a lot of money from the funnel cake booth.
Bad news: I'm tired and kind of sore.

Jul 5, 2009, 6:20pm (top)Message 385: Ms_Bella

BN: I have been sleeping all day, I feel horrible.

Jul 5, 2009, 7:17pm (top)Message 386: foggidawn

GN: Grocery shopping is done, so I don't have to mess with it in the middle of the week.
BN: I'm always amazed at how much money we can spend on groceries.

#371 jp:
I didn't know! In either case, I admired your family going out to see fireworks, versus how mine sees them at home. We are destructing the ozone horribly. I thought it sad that our celebration has to create so much smoke.

#374 PollyAnna:
Enjoy your trip and happy belated birthday to your husband!

#375 lefty:
My family loves to do that. Our usual place isn't too far from home. It's near a historic farm with many trees and horses.

#376 jp:
I'm so glad your hubby could be there!

#383 Ron:
Glad you were able to get the tickets.

#388 Bella:
I'm sorry you're sick. Sleep and I hope you feel better soon!

Great news: A friend at work got engaged this weekend. I'm so happy for her!
Bad news: I'm pretty upset about work right now. I think I overheard something I wasn't supposed to hear. I hope so bad that I don't lose my job.

Jul 6, 2009, 4:54pm (top)Message 391: pollysmith

K, I'm hoping with you!

Bib, ick -- silly cats. About a month ago, a friend woke up to his dog having gone poo on his bed. He wondered why the dog had moved to the floor, then turned over to discover the reason. Not being much for cleaning and having an abundance of money, he threw out all of his bedding (including a down comforter) and bought new.

BN: When I went to change it the old one was frozen to the unit.
BN: The whole back of the unit is covered in ice and all the pipe joints are as well.
GN: We don't own the building and don't have to deal with it.
BN: It's still wicked hot.

Jul 7, 2009, 10:58am (top)Message 405: lefty33

Can you put some fans by all that ice and channel the icy air into your general vicinity?

Jul 7, 2009, 11:03am (top)Message 406: biblioholic29

LOL! Good idea, but unfortunately the unit's in a closet. The church secretary (we rent space from the church) is supposedly working on it, but she's not the most competent person I've ever met.

I forgot, GN: While out buying the filter, I ran into the dad of one of the kids I used to babysit for when I worked in a Day Care. She was one of my favorites and he said she still has the Elmo doll I gave her when I left.

Jul 7, 2009, 11:19am (top)Message 409: MEM82

Bib- That just happened to my F-I-L yesterday! And the day before that we had to change our filter to make our AC work. geez!
Eeeek Cats!

Kerian- crossing my fingers against any bad job happenings! Good luck decorating a shirt 8)

JP- LOL my friends want me to join FB but I refuse just on principle at this point. My friend set me up this MySpace account and I never went on it after she set it up. I just can't seem to remember to get on there and do stuff. LOL My husband has an account but he hardly uses it, either.

BN- I'm big, fat and distracted right now. I want life to pause for a few weeks so I can have this baby and then be able to focus on all this other stuff!

GN- I have the lesson plans I have to send in the school district all typed out and now all I have to do is come up with Missie's booklist! Then I can mail it in and not worry about it until next year. YAY!

BN- Trying to write out a book and resource list is, in my opinion, just a little bit redundant especially since I have no real idea what book I will use until Missie goes and picks it out. LOL Outside of the math and spelling workbooks, that is. I mean I told them what I will be teaching, I find it amusing that they want to know how I will teach it when they can't actually approve or disapprove my method here in Ohio. Other HSers say they just type out a note that says, "I will teach my child what I feel my child needs to know and I will use any research tool I feel I need to use." That's not quite what Ohio law asks for and my School District administrator is really nice but who wants to risk bringing trouble down upon your head? Especially since the law technically asks for a plan.... even though I wish I had the guts to not spend hours and hours typing lessson plan and just mailing them that note. LOL

#407: I left 4 1/2 years ago.

Jul 7, 2009, 1:07pm (top)Message 411: kirbyowns

GN: VBS was a success and is now over. This means I will have some time to myself to read and do other things.
GN: I am now officially caught up on the threads.
GN: Mom and I have our tickets, hotels, and car rental all set up and purchased for our trip to Washington on the 20th! I get to go see the twins!

BN: I went up to school Friday, thinking that I'd be able to get in and set up a little. The floors weren't done. They should have been done a week ago. So now I have to wait...and wait...Probably won't be able to get in there until after my trip, which means I only have 5 days to set up and get everything ready before I'm back on contract. I'm sure I can get it done, but it's nice to be able to work on it a little at a time and not stress out about it.

GN: Today is my 2 year Thingaversary (kirbyjack)!

Jul 7, 2009, 1:49pm (top)Message 412: ejj1955

>411 Congrats on your Thingaversary!

BN: I've been talking to a friend, herself a bit of a nutcase, about her friends and their seriously messed-up marriages (one is currently traveling with her junior-high boyfriend, but her husband is getting suspicious).
GN: I am not a nutjob, IMO, and I'm not involved in any messy, stupid, deceptive relationships. Thank goodness.

Jul 7, 2009, 3:07pm (top)Message 413: biblioholic29

GN?: I also caved and joined Facebook. There were a lot of reasons adding up, but the reason it happened right now is that it's too hot to concentrate on much and this was easy.
BN?: Because of life circumstances, my privacy settings are really high, so no one will be able to search for me. This means I have to invite you to be my friend. Don't be upset if it takes me a while to find you!

Jul 7, 2009, 4:16pm (top)Message 414: foggidawn

GN: I'm done with work for the day! Due to the conference I'm going to over the weekend, I'm working a couple of very short days this week (basically just long enough to go in and do a program, then leave).
BN?: Because of this schedule, it's hard to get anything done this week -- not a lot of office time.

Jul 7, 2009, 4:28pm (top)Message 415: picolina

JP- Hehe, I remember it took me months to join Facebook after all my other friends joined it, but finally, I did. Boy was it amazing how many emails I got from Facebook everyday. Literally, my inbox would reach 100 every week! Hehe, but I've learned to ignore it and just enjoy the website.

#411 kirby- Happy Thingaversary!

GN: Grandma's coming over from Mexico in a week!
GN: Band camp starts in a week!
GN: Flying to Saskatoon in 2 1/2 weeks!
BN: It's been raining all last week and this week. :(

Oh, I forgot!

G/B N: Dad's in San Diego for a conference this week and next week he's in San Francisco, so I get to be alone with my mom for two weeks!

#415 If you don't want the e-mails, you can edit your account so they stop.

Good luck with band camp!

Good news: No band camp this week! ;)
Bad news: We have only 3 flutes! :( That is awful. I really hope the freshman doesn't quit.
Good news: I went to my friend Jake's b-day party on Sunday! Everyone there were juniors except for me. And almost all girls...
Good news: My aunt came over yesterday and we saw The Proposal and played Boggle.

Picolina, you can change your settings on FB so they don't email you all the time. You can specify which things you want them to email you about--but say "no" to having an email sent every time someone posts on your wall, for example. I have mine set so about the only emails I get are for friend requests.

Jul 7, 2009, 4:57pm (top)Message 418: littlegeek

I loved band camp. Memories....

Jul 7, 2009, 5:01pm (top)Message 419: pollysmith

"This one time, at band camp......" who remembers that?

Jul 7, 2009, 5:04pm (top)Message 420: ejj1955

Precisely what I was thinking!

Jul 7, 2009, 5:14pm (top)Message 421: biblioholic29

GN: I just heard from the Kitty-mama and she's on her way!
BN: There will then be lots of cleaning to do.
GN: I live in a tiny apartment, so even the most hard core cleaning only takes a couple hours.

Jul 7, 2009, 5:26pm (top)Message 422: jugglingpaynes

Thanks to everyone who sent friend requests to me! You are the best!
Still trying to decide if I should connect with some old friends. Because my high school was art centered, some of my old friends could be very...intense...depressive...crazy.

I also think they listed some of my spammers as friend suggestions. No sign of the woman that wants to marry me though. :o)

Jul 7, 2009, 6:34pm (top)Message 423: biblioholic29

Yeah, I had some fun going "who is that"? Only to realize it was someone I'd corresponded with about something on Craig's list.

GN: Ding Dong the cats are gone!
GN: My apartment has been de-haired, swept and the garbage taken out.

Jul 7, 2009, 8:12pm (top)Message 424: jugglingpaynes

Bib! You act like you didn't like having cats around!

Question Facebookers: How come every time I click on anything (quizzes, pillowfights, etc.) it pops up this warning "Allowing access will let it pull your profile information, photos, your friends' info, and other content that it requires to work."

It makes me nervous to click on anything.

Jul 7, 2009, 8:23pm (top)Message 425: foggidawn

#424 -- It makes me nervous to click on things, too. Basically, as far as I can figure out, Facebook is a pretty simple platform -- does basic stuff like lets you send messages, post pictures, write on other people's walls, write on your own wall. Then, there are all sorts of applications that you can add, like the pillowfights or quizzes or SuperPoke or whatever, that were created by a third party. They go in a box on your profile somewhere, but since they weren't created by FaceBook itself, you get that weird little message.

Some apps are better than others, and the only way I've figured out to tell the difference is experience. Sorry, that's not very helpful. I do think that the message that pops up is not as dire as it sounds -- basically, you're giving the third-party application permission to interact with FaceBook on your own page.

More experienced or savvy FaceBookers, feel free to correct me!

Jul 7, 2009, 8:47pm (top)Message 426: Ms_Bella

BN: I have to go back to work tomorrow and I really really really don't wanna.

Jul 7, 2009, 9:09pm (top)Message 427: Kasongo

Don't do the I Q test on Facebook. It will tell you that others have scored such and such and are challenging you. This is just an ad and then they start sending you text messaging. The other quizzes that maybe someone else has on their site are okay. You can take them and then they ask if you want to send an invitation on to others on your list. I hit "skip". then when you get your results you can post it, or not.

Basically, if they ask you for your cell phone number, run.

Jul 7, 2009, 9:54pm (top)Message 428: jugglingpaynes

Thank you foggi and Kasongo. That helps a bit!

Jul 7, 2009, 10:20pm (top)Message 429: ejj1955

Yes, I'd agree. I've done the IQ test but I don't have a cell phone so when it gets to that I'm basically done--it won't tell me my results (gee, and I'm sure it's really accurate, too!).

Most of the quizzes are dumb but fun, I think. I've found out which Hogwarts teacher I am and what my wand is made from and which US state I should live in, how old I act, which cities I've had the most fun in, and a bunch of other really useless information.

Jul 7, 2009, 11:13pm (top)Message 430: Ms_Bella

lol I have only took a couple of quizzes.

GN: I am feeling better
BN: I don't wanna go to work tomorrow.
BN: I just realized how horribly behind I am on reviewing the books I have read this year!

#404 bib:
Sorry about the AC! I hope they have it fixed soon.

#408 LG:
Who may sleep well after reading that? *sniffles*

#409 MEM:
Thank you! Good luck with Missie's book list.

#411 kirby:
It's good to see you back if only for a bit! I wish I could help you set up your class room. Happy Thingaversary!

#415 pico:
That sounds nice. Enjoy your free time to spend with your mom!

#422 jp:
I know how that goes. I was always in the art crowd. My best friend from 13-18 was the very things you fear of old friends. I wonder sometimes if her life is better now.

#423 bib:
Ohhh! We say the same thing here, only it's about my grandparents being away. I don't know which is sadder. Sorry it didn't work out with the cats.

#424 jp:
I don't know that I can add anything to what Foggi and Kasongo have said. I was always nervous of that, too.

Good news: My grandparents have left till the 13th. There will be peace, a kitchen I can cook in whenever I want, and a whole lot of other stuff.

More good news: I got to met my 23-year-old sister's boyfriend for the first time today.

Bad news: Work. The next schedule is made. I'm not doing great, but I'm doing okay. It's more than others can say, for whom I'm really upset for.

More bad news: The garage sink where the washing machine water runs into isn't working so we're temporarily out of a washing machine.

Jul 8, 2009, 1:27am (top)Message 434: ejj1955

BN: My aunt died yesterday.
GN, sort of: She would have been 93 today and she lived a long, happy, useful life, with a nice husband and two lovely daughters. She died in her own home.
GN: I'll probably be able to go to the memorial service this weekend. Even with a sort of sad occasion, it's nice to be with family.

Jul 8, 2009, 9:51am (top)Message 435: jugglingpaynes

My condolences ejj. I know how hard it must be. I lost an uncle back in October and then my mother's aunt passed away in May. Both in their late 80's. No matter how long a life they live, we're never ready to say goodbye to them.

Jul 8, 2009, 4:49pm (top)Message 436: Kerian

#434 ejj:
I'm so sorry, ejj! *hugs*

News:

There's been a group profile photo update. You may now see our foggi's lovely photo of her wearing her cool Professor Sprout hat that she made herself. The title of her photo is "Apparation." Watch carefully that she doesn't apparate, or even like with wizard photos, walk out of the photo from time to time.

I also have word from suge. The poor girl is sick but on the mend and says "What up" to everyone in the HE. I know she goes online from her cell and think while she's waiting to get better that she may enjoy company via profile comments.

Aww! Poor Suge!

Jul 8, 2009, 5:30pm (top)Message 438: littlegeek

Poor sugey pants! How is she going to stalk the trio while they're in NY if she's sick?

Condolences to ej.

GN: bib's parents thought to ask me which restaurant, cause they were totally going to go to the wrong one.
GN: bib's daddy seems nice in private messages (even if he hates the Yankees).

Jul 8, 2009, 6:01pm (top)Message 439: jugglingpaynes

Mets fan? (You mean there are teams outside of NY?)

Good News: A woman from the yoga class I take asked if I could review her book on my blog.

Bad News: I've never reviewed a picture book before and I'm not sure how I go about it. Any suggestions?

Jul 8, 2009, 6:15pm (top)Message 440: biblioholic29

It's less being a "fan" and more having an inbred dislike of the Yankees (it's genetic). Of course, the Yankees do happen to be playing the Twins right now, and my dad is a fan of them. :)

Jul 8, 2009, 8:56pm (top)Message 441: foggidawn

#439 -- For reviewing a picture book, you can always talk about how the pictures interact with the story -- do they tell things that the words don't? Do they reveal what's about to happen? Are the page-turns well thought out? Are there parts of the story that ought to be illustrated that aren't? Does the medium used and the illustration style suit the story? And you can review the story itself -- is it overly didactic? Cutesy? Does it address kids on their level, or does it talk down to them? (I didn't sign up to review picture books when I started reviewing professionally because I don't feel confident reviewing art, but these are things I remember when we talked about review writing in my advanced youth lit class -- hope it helps!)

Jul 8, 2009, 9:08pm (top)Message 442: jugglingpaynes

Thank you foggi, that does help a bit. I'll have to think this out. I plan to read it to Sierra and see how it goes.

It's funny. For a lengthy book you only really have to read it once to form a critique, but I think picture books need several reads to get ideas together.

BN: I'm exhausted at the mo, hence my lack of attendance around here lately.
GN: I have a long weekend at my parents' house starting tomorrow, as an old friend is getting married. It should be a fabulous wedding, and I'm really looking forward to it. :-)

Jul 9, 2009, 11:30am (top)Message 444: littlegeek

GN: Spa night tonight! I really need it, too.
GN: I'm singing at a wedding this Saturday and I'm not too nervous about it. Ask me again on Saturday morning, tho. ;-)

It's not my cousin's wedding is it? That would be weird! She's getting married Sat. in Santa Cruz!

GNGNGNGNGN: Tomorrow at this time my plane will be about to land in Chicago! I am so excited about this trip!

Only two items of bad news I can think of:
1. I'm not packed, so will have to scramble around and finish this evening.
2. My car is making a funny noise -- good thing I'm not driving to Chicago! I made an appointment with the mechanic for when I get back.
