aka: "Where are you in Fantasyland II?"
I'm currently somewhere in limbo while I try to convince myself to return to Italy in
Daylight, but I fully expect myself to be stuck in France and Hollywood with a fallen angel in a couple of days' time.
I'm in an anonymous US city in a world slightly different from our with the Cryptobiological Containment and Rescue Services people in
Monster. We're trying to keep the yeti from eating all the ice cream in the local Food Mart. Although, it turns out they don't like vanilla...
In Luly with Rook.
Song of the Basilisk by Patricia A. McKillip
My tour of Fantasyland is currently on hold as I bounce between travelling through Syndic space in Jack Campbell's
Fearless and wandering the streets of San Francisco along with Sam Spade in
The Maltese Falcon.
I am poised to dive into the world of
Warbreaker, however, and I've got a few other potential Fantasyland entry points lined up as well.
Thanks for the new thread. I am stuck in the real world reading required books this month. But hope to get back soon.
My tour in Fantasyland, currently sees me stranded at sea in broad
Daylight, but afterwards my planned trip to tour 1920s Hollywood with a fallen angel will have to be post-poned. I think I'll go sing
A Song for Arbonne instead. It'll be my third vacation in Arbonne. ^-^
Ooooh, #3, I should like to go there soon! That's one of the McKillip books I've yet to read....
Yay! New thread!
I'm currently taking a short break on my journey, but fully expect to be both sailing on
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and joining
The Fellowship of the Ring in a very short time.
I'm back in Harry Dresden's Chicago again reading
White Night. I really like it here!

>10 Jinx!! (sort of)
I just finished a short jaunt into Faerie with
Tithe, and I'm heading out into the mean streets with Rachel Morgan in
Dead Witch Walking.
Wandering a rather Gothic Europe with some people have strange experiences in Robert Aickman's
Cold Hand in Mine.
I'm in a park in Berlin that will lead me to the German Faeryland in Kim Wilkins'
The Autumn Castle.
I am now in the future in a franchised city, Singapore Three, somewhere in Asia (its warm and near the sea), and in Hell (Chinese version) with
Precious Dragon by Liz Williams.
I just left the uncertain world of
The Hidden Land and am now voyaging for the first time through Earthsea with Ged in
A Wizard of Earthsea. I'm really glad I'm finally reading it, Earthsea is a beautiful place!
Have just caught up with this thread after a long break. I've got a pile of fantasy and detective stories waiting but am currently alternating between the alternative Thirty Years War of Eric Flint's
1634: the Bavarian Crisis and the latest Jane Lindskold's Wolf books. Looking forward to returning to Sharon Shinn's world with Reader and raelynx.

I'm in the desert land surrounding
Skybowl where a battle is shortly to rage between the Vellanti, Diarmadhi and Farahdi (Sunrunners).
I am in Faerieland at the moment in
Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan
I've just fled through a
'sometimes way' from the dangerous, unstable and claustrophobic Anasazi 3rd World of
Shibalba in Louis L'Amour's
The Haunted Mesa.

Left Ravnica and travelled to Terry Pratchet's Discworld.
1920s Hollywood, as the Rat God stalks silent film actress Chrysanda Flamande in Barbara Hambly's excellent
Bride of the Rat God.
I've traded in Arbonne for a trip through mythological Ireland and Wales. Where I'm going next, though, I don't yet know. My tour guide neglected to tell me.
I'm on New Earth and in Epic, in
Epic, by Conor Kostick. I'm liking it fairly well. The idea is great, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. I'm finding the writing to be very choppy.
I've been to a few places recently including watching the demons battle in
worm ouroboros but I'm currentl in Aleria watching the Marat battle in
Furies of calderonI've been travelling through Alta and Tian in Mercedes Lackey's Dragon Jousters series. Currently I'm reading the second book
Alta. It's interesting the use of Egyptian culture she's made.
I am reading
A Choice of Destinies by Melissa Scott. It is about Alexander the Great and if he went west to Rome instead of east to India. I think it also has fantasy elements. I saw it on LT and got a used copy (its oop).
I finished
A Choice of Destinies by Melissa Scott. It was historical fiction, really alternate history with a touch of fantasy (Greek gods) and SF (Alexandria in space).
It was about Alexander the Great, and what might have happened if he went west to Rome instead of east into India. He lived longer, was able to consolidate his realms allowing the empire to continue into the future. With no dark ages and religion held in check they developed faster scientifically. There were interludes from their future in between chapters of Alex in his own time dealing with the west.
I liked most of ideas and the characterizations. I find Scott's writing difficult and this was an earlier book (1986). The interludes were interesting, but made the story choppy. Still it was enjoyable and worthwhile.
She did have some differences with history before Alex had to make the choice to return to the west, and there was no explanation: Thebes was not destroyed, he had a 10 year old son. Would have liked that explained.
I'm revisiting Hogwarts and hearing whispers in the walls in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. When things get too quiet there, I've been dashing out of the Wizarding World into the crumbing society of
Age of Misrule.

Luthiel's Song is one that has been on my wishlist for the last couple years and I just mooched a copy yesterday! Glad to see that you enjoyed it.
I'm presently visiting Skala whilst reading
The Bone Doll's Twin.
Right now I'm in England with Calder in
The Calder Game, but I'm waiting to return to the land (or lands) of Thomas Hunter's dreams when I get my hands on
Red.
I just returned from another visit to
Sealey Head; I rarely read a book twice in a year but this one was just begging me to. I had a lovely time speaking with Judd, Gwyneth, Ridley, and Miranda, and even managed to get Emma to open a door so I could have a few words with Princess Ysabo as well. Somehow I avoided both the Sproules and Mrs. Quinn's cooking.
#53, I loved Sealey Head, too. Had me listening for the bell, for days.
I'm currently visiting the
Libyrinth and listening to the books with Haly.
Having returned from Edinburgh I've now gone on to Uzbekistan with Anton Gorodetsky in The Last Watch
I'm following Harry Dresden around Chicago.
I'm spending time in the Westlands with Rhodry ap Devaberial.
I finished
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. It is a YA fantasy that I was reading for a RL book group. It was OK, but not my cup of tea. Very simplistic, and kind of a disguised romance.
I'm currently reading
The Stepsister Scheme by
Jim C. Hines; however, it's taking me some time to get through it due to my book club reading The Book Thief right now.
Im off to Discworld for some fun with
Pyramids by Terry Pratchett.
I'v just left six duchies of the Farseer Trilogy whith haveing had fun and am on to Bingtown in
the Liveship Traders.

Osten Ard is a wonderful place with a windy but worthy ending. It is one of my all-time favorites. I'm walking through Scotland with Robert the Bruce on my way back to Krynn's Fifth Age for an extended vacation. I just can't get enough DragonLance!
I am, thanks! It's slow going, though oddly, the pages seem to turn quickly--it's just paced such that I can't do more than 20 pages or so at a time. But the prose is wonderfully evocative and amusing, and the characters so very richly textured.
*nods* That's a good way to describe the book. The sheer amount of detail can be quite overwhelming, but it's so beautifully done...
Goddess Lady, Randland??? I am right behind you in my reread. I started
The Shadow Rising again last night. This will be about the eighth time I've read it...

#73 DWWilkin This is still just my first time through. Since my last post here, I'm now in
A Crown of Swords. I hope to be caught up through
The Gathering Storm by the end of the year. It would go faster if I didn't take a break between each installment and read something else...The Wheel of Time is just so dense, I feel like I need something light in between to cleanse the palate!
Oh...were you questioning my use of the word "Randland"? That's what the world is called!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RandlandDidn't know that the world was called that. I did get all the way through the reread by early October and waited for
The Gathering Storm (which of course I have been waiting for a long time...
It was worth and I reviewed it. Now another year to wait for the next... I last heard the writing on that was 2/3rds complete. I think it is called
A Memory of Light(back to top)
