I started reading this online today because I was completely bored at work and it's awesome.
I can't wait to get my copy. We're on a budget right now and I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze this in there, it's hard work especially since, I still have ~90 books in my TBR pile on the shelves...
(I know it's free online, I don't like reading books that way, I need the book in my hands)
I don't either, but I was bored with the internet so I gave it a shot. The latest version looks just like the book. I find if I turn my monitor brightness down, it's less horrible reading online.
Is it on brandon's site? I guess I could find it there. warbreaker just to get the touchstone in.
Is it downloadable?
ETA: Ok found it it's the obvious link from his impressive site, and downloadable as a PDF.
To be honest, I wasn't so impressed with it. Definetly not his best work. It doesn't have the pace of Mistborn, and even the magic, which was very inventive again, fades towards the end. It isn't used for much and there's no explanation of why colour is required. The characters aren't interesting either.
It's still better than a lot of fantasy out there, and I did enjoy it towards the end - but it took a long time to get there!
What did you like about it particularly.
I also thought the characters were lacking. Again, the magic system was pretty cool, but I see what you mean about the colours not really meaning anything particular.
Middling effort for Brandon. Was it the right one to give away for free?
How do we know the colors don't mean anything. It is said repeatedly that SO LITTLE is know about the higher levels 8-10+ I can easily see in a future book, that a specific color will have as much to do with a spell as all the other requirements.
I do disagree on the characters.
