Here's a place to talk about fiction/nonfiction set in South Dakota.

Similar to the Jimmie Ruth Evans waitress series set in Mississippi (see MS thread), there's also a slightly older waitress series set in South Dakota.

I loved these Kathleen Taylor books (featuring Tory Bauer) but there don't seem to be any more of them.

Hotel South Dakota, Sex and Salmonella, and Cold Front are just a few of the titles.

Laura Ingalls Wilder's books Long Winter, Little Town on the Prairie and These Happy, Golden years are all set in South Dakota.

can't go wrong with Dan O'Brien's Indian Agent; fictionalized account of events on and around the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, ultimately leading to the Massacre at Wounded Knee.
