This is so exciting! At the moment, the feature looks a little buggy on my end (books listed multiple times), but I love that you can see what you've already reviewed and also how to notify Abby if you haven't received the book yet.
Hurray!
The feature is located at the top of the ER list page.
It makes me a little nervous because it says I received a book that never did come. I did receive books after that though, so my note to Abby must have done the trick despite it being listed as needing me to review it.
Wisewoman, on my list I have a book I've received but haven't yet reviewed. Under that book, I have an option that says "Whoops! I didn't actually receive that book."
Do you not have that option?
I think in the future there won't be as many of those errors since I also notice there is a link for me to report receipt of my just-won June book. I don't know how LT got the dates of receipt for past books... trolling the arrival threads in this group, perhaps?
> 3
I have that option, but nothing happens when I click on it.
Must be an IE6/WindowsXP bug - these things usually are!
Message edited by its author, Jul 1, 2009, 2:05pm.
I wonder what, if anything, is supposed to display when you click on the "Whoops! I didn't actually receive that book" link? My list is showing that I have received Bleeding Heart Square as of 6/26/2009, but, like everyone else who won this book, I never got it in the mail. When I click on the "Whoops!" link to report it as unreceived, nothing seems to happen.
That is very cool!! I'm excited to be able to keep better track of my ER books this way.
Thanks Abby!
This is a nice addition so you can tell if your records match LTs. One book that I'd reported not received still shows up, but I checked it out of the library and gave it a cursory review that is noted, so I'll leave it. I also have a review that's dated more than half a year after I posted it, but that's my fault as it got deleted when I tried to work with collections and I had to add the book and its review back in.
I was always imagining the reason I haven't gotten a book for a year might be an error in registering my reviews. I guess publishers just don't like my tastes or something. :)
Great new feature.
> 5
I have a similar problem. My list claims I received
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes LP by Jill Churchill on June 26 2009 but to my knowledge no one has received it. Nothing happens when I click on "whoops..."
I just got an error when I went to a book that the tab says I didn't review. I had it expand all reviews and got this error at the bottom.
Fatal error: Call to undefined function GetTweetThis() in /var/www/html/inc_bookreviews.php on line 1325
Not to mention that my review is missing !
Book:
http://www.librarything.com/work/5936551...I also posted the review on GR and Amazon, so I will have to go find it.
3: Yes, I have that link, but nothing happens when I click on it. Must be a work in progress.
Also, the tab is missing my latest ER book, which I've reviewed already.
I just noticed that although the books you reviewed in the ER section works great, I now get a fatal error if I try to look at my reivews from my profile page.
I assume this will get straightened out soon enough.
One of the books I received shows that I didn't write a review but I reviewed back in April and it shows up when I click edit book in my library.
I'm guessing there are still glitches. I get that fatal error as well.
I just noticed that on my list there is a book that I know I received but I thought it was through the member giveaway program and not an ER book. I guess I will be reading that book this nice long weekend and post a review for it too.
OK, I have several problems on my page.
1. My recent June win is showing up 4 times.
Sworn to Silence2. My Sept book
Any Given Doomsday shows up 3 times.
3.
The Baby Thief is listed as a win on 06/26/2009 and I have never been informed of this win nor have I received it.
4. Several books I did win and receive are not on the list.
The Charlemagne Pursuit,
Hard Stop and
Bad thingsETA:
OOPS, Hard Stop and Bad Things ARE listed just missed them because they didn't have covers showing. so My guess is the wrong book and the Charlemagne Pursuit is where the screw up is. I believe I was given the CP book instead of the Baby Thief because of available copy issues.
Message edited by its author, Jul 1, 2009, 2:36pm.
I just checked and the book that is listed as having no review is one that says I won it through the Early Review Member Giveaway (That is what it says in the message). I have received other books through the member giveaway and have reviewed them but they are not listed.
Now I am confused about this book and maybe it is one that I was suppose to read and review as an ER book and thought it was just a member giveaway.
Just an echo on the fact that I really like this function but current glitches are as already mentioned:
A book shows up that i never received but nothing happens when I click the "oops i never received" option
I also get the fatal error message when i try to see my reviews
Finally, i get the message for a book that says it's waiting for my review but I did the review some time ago. when i go to the edit book option i can see my review.
Anyhow, I'm sure this will all be fixed and this is a GREAT function. Thanks again all those who made it happen!
Thanks everyone. Pushing some files here and there. The reviews page bug I think is ok now (part of a related but separate feature). Let me know if you still can't reach it.
We're also trying to dig through our old data and clean it up, so keep us posted if you see more things that ain't so. I'll be going through them today.
14> I also have Any Given Doomsday showing up three times.
OK the review page bug is gone, and I can see my review but the link to those I have received still says write a review next to the book listed in #9, even though I have a review. How does that link get refreshed with updated data ?
Also the earlier books say I received them on 6/26/09 and I didn't, they were much earlier - in 2008. Is the review counter only looking from received date on, for the review ?
>19.
06/26 is probably just some hard date behind the scenes in this new feature. I'm guess that if you've added the book before they rolled out this feature, it's going to say 06/26 (which it does for me too), and afterward, it'll reflect the actual added date, or something.
Pure speculation on my part.
Fixed the link for "whoops..." that wasn't working.
18: Yeah, some books are showing up a few times, I'm going to clean them out again today. Related to some data changes I think.
19: I'm updating the review data right now, will be happening more automatically shortly.
19/20: Correct We don't know when you received a book, so we just back filled the old data. Going forward the data will be entered with relevant times.
Message edited by its author, Jul 1, 2009, 2:57pm.
I have a request. Once you get the data and functionality sorted out, can you also put the link of what you got through ER on your home page in the ER Module ?
As it stands now, its multiple clicks to get to it.
This is a great feature! And I found out I never posted my review here for one of my ER books, so maybe now that I took care of that I'll finally get another one. Next month.
22 > Excellent Idea.
I re-ran our review data, I think its looking cleaner. Post me the links to any books you have a review for but aren't getting credit for on Books You've Won.
Thanks.
*sigh* I can't check this out since once again I didn't get an ER book . . .
Well, you just need to read more books!
#5 When I clicked that I never received
Bleeding Heart Square, it changed to "not received as of 7/1/09" and the link to click now says that "I have posted a review". Had to look closely to see the change in wording, though, because at a glance the page looks the same.
The only thing that didn't show up was
Charlemagne Pursuit, but I got it as a bonus when there were extra copies to distribute.
I like this.
That is a great feature! Thanks for the hard work.
My page has
Sworn to Silence showing twice.
Message edited by its author, Jul 1, 2009, 4:00pm.
Great feature - thanks to all the LT techies!
Your hard work is greatly appreciated by the LT community.
I think
Any Given Doomsday must be listing three times for anyone who received it since mine's doing the same.
Sweetsmoke is another one that's showing up more than once, for the record...
> 30
Again, and Again, and Again ...
Are there any plans in the works to also have a tab for ER books requested?
33: Correct. Thanks. I've got the cause of the duplicates narrowed down just now. Coming up with a solution is next.
We're working on this page now. It's only semi-officially released...
Great feature thanks. I found a book I had never reviewed, so I did.
I am currently reading an ER book that I will review when done. Will it automatically update the link, or is it going to be updated every X number of days/hours after it is all fixed ?
37: It should do it pretty automatically, but if not let me know.
This is a nice feature and will be terrific once all the bugs are ironed out. Thanks!!
> 38 Thanks. Will let you know after my next review.
Luke, could enoch_elijah's problem have anything to do with the fact that the review has a date of Dec 31, 1969 ?
I LOVE the new feature! Even with the kinks, it's great. It will be such a useful tool once it's finalized.
I absolutely love this function- it's so handy for adding new ER books into your library and finding them to review. Thank you!
>43
I didn't realize it was showing Member Giveaway books too. I was originally picturing it just being Early Reviewers. If we do show both, we certainly need to show the distinction -- either with some sort of label/badge, or putting them on a separate page. Maybe a separate page for LTMG, and within those, indicating which MG books have reviews requested?
47: Are those missing ones from longer ago?
I'm making some changes to try and eliminate the duplicates, fyi. If you see an improvement let me know.
Message edited by its author, Jul 1, 2009, 8:16pm.
This is a great feature! In fact, I had a review in Microsoft Word and looking at this list reminded me that I had not posted it! Now it's posted and I hope it will show in my list as reviewed soon.
Thanks to everyone who made this happen!
Message edited by its author, Jul 1, 2009, 8:17pm.
Love the new feature!
I have two books that are appearing twice. I know you're working in a fix for this.
You've fixed it. No more duplicates! You're fast, Luke!!
I have one of those goddamn 1969 reviews for one of my ER books. It shows that I owe a review for it but it's been reviewed for months. How do I fix it?
Ooh, shiny! Thanks, guys -- this is a really nifty feature. (No bugs to report on my page.)
52: Try editing it (add a space to the end or something) and save it again, see if that helps. I am going to do something better than that eventually, but see what that does anyway.
I added a review today. How long does it take to show that it's been reviewed?
54, I added a space and it shows reviewed on July 1st now on the ER books received page. Did that 'owed review' cost me a chance of getting a June 09 book? Does the ER algorithm now think I'm a slackard for taking so long to review the book? No big deal, but I would like to think I'm back in the algorithm's good graces.
Great Feature--thanks all for setting this up!
48: All those books listed are ones I have received with in the past year. They are also books received through the member giveaway program.
Peter Carrot Top by
Yolanda Jackson I received May 6, 2009 notified I won April 24, 2009
Gray Apocalypse by James Murdoch receive 4/21/09 notified I won 4/14/09
zephyrs by Andy Ray Never received notified 4/7/09
I have more that I just realized I also won through the member giveaway program. Here they are:
Workshop of the Second Self by Gary Wolf received 3/20/09 notified 3/17/09
With Music and Justice For All by Frye Gaillard received 5/19/09 notified 5/2/09
Die Struwwelliese by Cilly Schmitt -Teichmann still waiting for it notified 6/19/09
None of those books are listed on the books won tab. The only won listed from the member giveaway is:
Twilight of the Habsburgs : the Life and Times of Emperor Francis Joseph by Alan Palmer which was the first book I won from the Member Giveaway program.
BTW - I love this feature!!
Works great for me, really useful feature!
I find it interesting that some people are saying their Member Giveaway books are being listed as well because mine aren't. I'm okay with it either way as long as it is consistent. :-)
OK, my page is mostly correct, except (and I don't know who's job it is to fix this) is that I was given
The Charlemagne Pursuit instead of
The Baby Thief. I am guessing the table matrix was not updated when the substitution was made. Or should I just click the "I did not receive this book link"?
My Member giveaway wins aren't listed either, but I'm fine with it either way as well. I got those a while back, though--perhaps it's only recording wins that have happened since they've been working on this new system?
Wow ... that's great ... and I liked the one-click feature to point out the May '09 book hasn't showed up as yet.
What I was REALLY excited about, however, was the "Tweet your review" button on the reviews ... when did THAT show up?
Message edited by its author, Jul 2, 2009, 9:42am.
>56
Time doesn't matter. Once it's reviewed, it doesn't matter *when* it was reviewed. In short, fear not, you're in the algorithm's good graces.
OH! You have an LT Logo to mark your post!!
How cool is that!
My concern is that I have one book listed from the member giveaway in this tab. Is this tab suppose to include the member giveaways? I have not read that book and I am wondering that since I haven't read & reviewed the book that it is messing up the algorithm for the ER books.
All my other member giveaways that I have won I have read and reviewed because they had asked for a review. The book listed is one from a member that was clearing off their shelf.
>66.
This leads me to wonder if a feature to add some data to some page somewhere pertaining to ER to see if we're in "Good Standing" with "The Algorithm" would be desirable.
That way, our paranoia can be justified!
67: I agree with you on that. Now I am wondering if that is why I haven't won any in awhile.
Well, the theory is that once this gets up and running, you'll be able to see which books you haven't reviewed. And if you've reviewed everything on the page, then you know you're in good standing!
Luke's still working out some bugs. We're keeping track of the books won and received in an entirely new way now, so we have to get everything sorted out.
66: *nods* If the Member Giveaway books are intended to be listed, there needs to be some labels for "review needed and done, review needed and not done, no review needed, never received".
69: What if it's a book you never received and it says "Whoops, I never actually received this book." Does that mean you are all set with the algorithm and it knows not to penalize you for not reviewing a book you never received?
>70
Absolutely.
>71
If you mark that you never got it, you're in the clear.
Abby, I'm still a little confused on what I should do about the book I was 'supposed' to get and the one I actually got.
>74
Wait on that for a bit, while we figure out the rest of the data? We're still playing around - it's not officially working yet...
no problem.
Is this just suppose to list the ER books you have won?
77 > yes.
73>
That seems, um, ripe for abuse (though, I suppose, no more so than the placeholder reviews saying "I just didn't feel like reviewing this one, but I want to get more ER books anyway".) I understand that lots of people just don't get a book, but if one person keeps saying "Didn't get it" month after month, will it raise any eyebrows? Especially if nobody else reports a problem with any of those books?
okay then I will wait till all the bugs are fixed because I still have a member giveaway showing up in the list.
>79.
It's also no different than the user contacting Abby saying "I never got this book!1one!", only it automates the process.
But, instead of making her keep track of how many books you claim to have never got, the system does it automagically, so it's easier to audit the system to see potential abusers, or the unluckiest people in the history of LT.
Rest assured that if you claim to never ever get a book after winning a bunch we'll track you down and flog you with a copy of the Chicago Manual of Style.
There are a few ways where someone might game the system, and part of changing how we track this stuff (through trial and error, largely) will hopefully make the system better for reviewers and publishers alike.
Message edited by its author, Jul 2, 2009, 12:45pm.
Cool, my list is down to one copy each this morning. It would be neat to have this link on the ER group home page (too?) so we don't have to make the extra click to the list page. Of course, I don't know how many more times I'll look at my list..
This is a really cool feature ! I've been archiving the comments that mention when I've won . Now this keeps track of it for us . YAY !
>79
That seems, um, ripe for abuse
Well, yes. But it also gives us an automated way to see if there's one person who suspiciously seems to never get any books in the mail. In short, it'll be easier to get our eyebrows raised. If you will.
>83
Once it's live for real, and working, we'll blog it and put links abound.
Oh, how lovely. It appears to work perfectly for me. It also reminded me that I never received one book I once won, so now I can inform the system and keep the algorithm from hating me.
How can you get a book that is listed but wasn't one that you won as an ER book off the list?
88: I'm going to take care of it. All this feedback has been super helpful in helping me analyze some of this data. Thanks for hanging in there.
89: Thanks, hanging in there.
81>
Well, yes, but there's some checking for that, since if nobody else reports missing a particular book, it might raise eyebrows; people also might psychologically be more willing to lie to a checkbox than to a person.
(Netflix has an automated "I didn't get this movie" or "I already sent this back" option, but they also have flags if a particular user employs these too frequently.)
>91
...but they also have flags if a particular user employs these too frequently.
And that's the plan :)
92>
Fantastic.
This is the best thing since the black bird!
What a terrific new feature! Thanks Luke and everyone who worked on it.
I thought I reported books that didn't arrive to Abby but two were on the 'received' list and it was nice to be able to just check the box and see it change, and very nice to see reviews acknowledged also.
I agree, this is a wonderful feature.
>95
We're keeping track of the not-received books in an entirely new way, so it's likely we'll have to re-do the ones that have been reported missing in the past.
I made some changes to the data that should improve our ability to track things. Chances are some books might still be missing, from an older iteration of the system.
Please let me know if you see duplicates or if there is a book you know you won that is missing.
Also, I _think_ I got all the Member Giveaway books out of the mix, but let me know. We'll make a separate page for them next week once we get this one squared away.
Thanks again.
It looks like the Member Giveaways are off my list. Thanks!!
I have a book, the most recent on my list, that is showing no review. It has been reviewed and the review is showing with the book. I've added a space as was suggested to someone else above and edited the review. It is still not showing as having been reviewed on my list. What else do I need to do?
I love this feature!
I looked at my list of Early Reviewers and your list. You are missing one of mine. Is this a bug?
I forgot to say: Let me know the titles of stuff that seems missing or wrong. Then I can find out if its a bug or a misrepresentation of data or whatever.
Thanks
Also, I noticed that two of the books have the option to "Add to my library". Most of the books I've already given away. Why is that button there for only two of my books?
105: I think that Illegal is a member giveaway and not an Early Review copy. Does that seem right?
106: Thanks.
Message edited by its author, Jul 2, 2009, 11:46pm.
104: SqueakyChu, can you give me an example of a book that you don't think is in your library, but you don't get an Add This Book on? Clicking on the book titles on your page I get taken to your book page for those, and it seems they are in the system for you.
Its getting late for me, but I also searched your library for a couple and found them just fine. I might be missing something here.
My book is now showing as reviewed!
The Good Thief I received on 8/27/08. I posted a review of it on 9/1/2008.
Your listing has me receiving this book today (7/3/09) and never having posted a review.
--> 108
You're right, Luke. Those books are still in my library. I forgot that I kept them under an Early Reviewers collection although I no longer actually own them.
I thought of another book I received from Early Reviewers that I had deleted from my library, but I added it back tonight so I can have the credit for reviewing it. It is
Gossip of the Starlings. I have all of this information handy as I track my individual books through an ID number on Bookcrossing - even the ones I no longer own.
Cool Jew has a button that says "Add to my library" but it's already in my library.
This is a great feature! It seems, however, that the book I won from the May batch (
Take Off Your Shirt and Cry) is missing from the list, though the one I should be getting from the June batch is listed.
I'm getting The Calligrapher’s Daughter! It's my first Early Review book! I'm super excited.
The one book that is listed as not received
Great Expectations - The Graphic Novel HAS been received (and reviewed), but only because I carried on an extended correspondence with the publisher (who had no idea the book had been offered to LibraryThing by an ex-employee! He sent me the English version (not sure if the American version has even been published yet!)
I'm only concerned about this if the "algorithm" doesn't see my entry and review and I'm being penalized for it...haven't won a book for a few months now!
I reviewed
Marco Flamingo on Dec 22, 2008 but am not getting credit for that review on the Books You've Won tab.
Yesterday all the books I've received from the ER program were showing but now one of them is no longer listed.
Any Given Doomsday has disappeared.
Message edited by its author, Jul 3, 2009, 6:04pm.
Love this feature, my list is missing
Any Given Doomsday, it was there a couple of days ago, but not now. I hated it, but it is part of my ER collection.
Also,
Jorgy: the Life of Native Alaskan Bush Pilot and Airline Captain Holger "Jorgy" Jorgensen has an incorrect bookcover as well. It is the same in my library, but I remember putting the right cover on it at one time. I'm going to go and try to fix it in my library, I wonder if that will fix it here too, or whether it's a bug. Thanks!
ETA: Fixed in my library, but not on the 'Books I've won' tab page.
Message edited by its author, Jul 3, 2009, 7:41pm.
My page looks fine/correct for the ER books.
I'm not sure if my Member Giveaway book is supposed to show (it doesn't) but it was an e-book (and I recall there was some controversy about it).
>36/86 - when this goes live for real I would like to add to the request in >22 (request for the link in the ER module on the home page) a request that the link be added to the "stats/memes" page of our profile.
Thanks for all the hard work!
I had received and reviewed An Elegy for Easterly: Stories by Petina Gappah and it was showing up as such on this feature, but now has disappeared.
On Marco Flamingo, I think the problem is that there are different editions causing problems. I and 21 other people had it in our libraries as
http://www.librarything.com/work/6362665 with reviews and an Early Reviewer Alum logo, but the one on the Books You've Won tab was different and had only 5 people. I combined the works so now the book shows as a Book I've Won but my review still doesn't show on that tab though imy review does show under the works itself.
Like 126 An Elergy for Easterley was on my list and has disappeared (and the touchstone doesn't seem to be working). Fantastic feature though thank you.
Message edited by its author, Jul 4, 2009, 5:03pm.
Just wanted to say I'm disappointed you'e not tracking Member Giveaways with this feature.
> 128 Patience, gwernin! :-) They say they are going to do a separate page to track those (see message 98). I think it was decided that it was confusing to have them together on one page, as the review rules for member giveaways are different.
Message edited by its author, Jul 5, 2009, 6:34pm.
thanks, tymfos! I admit I didn't read every message in the thread...
>130 Don't worry, I've done (or rather, not done) the same thing on long threads from time to time!
Reporting a weird bug in my list:
In Message #95 on July 2, I reported my list was good. Oddly since then
Fit at Fifty and Beyond which I reviewed May 17, has disappeared, and in its place is:
Conscience Point by Erica Abeel
You reviewed this book on 05/17/2009.
But I have never requested or snagged
Conscience Point, and obviously did not review it on May 17th, either.
Message edited by its author, Jul 6, 2009, 1:11am.
OH, this is so wonderful! My list of books is perfect~thanks:)
Thanks everybody. There's a lot of data to poke through, so I've been doing the books you all mention first.
132: I think you are all set now, let me know?
I think Any Given Doomsday is back.
More updates shortly.
Looks good now, thanks Luke.
Hi Luke,
re my message 125. An Elegy for Easterly is showing up on my Books Won again now, but there was a message asking if I had received it yet (which I had) and so it is now showing up as received as of today's date and there is a link to write a review. My review was submitted on the 24th April. Could you take a look and see if you can fix this. Thanks
Message edited by its author, Jul 6, 2009, 11:36am.
My list was OK the last time I checked, but today it's missing a couple. I received and reviewed the following books that aren't showing up on my list:
White Nights by Ann Cleeves from the July 2008 batch.
The Amish Cook at Home from the October 2008 batch.
140: When was the last time you checked?
Missing covers should be back now, was not getting place-holders.
As of now, the only book showing up is the one I never got. Still tweaking?
My list looks right, but the cover for
Eve of Darkness is REALLY wrong. It's a subpar image so I can't see what the title is. Clicking on the wrong cover takes you to the right book. I don't see that wrong cover as an option on the work page. Maybe it's a combining issue?
>141 I just checked a minute ago and the two books are missing from my list. They were there on Friday.
Oddly, the cover of one of the books has changed to
something completely different ...

... as you can see from the inset, it's an image of a different book (probably a
better book, but hey).
145: Wow. Thats amazing. I grabbed some code from the existing ER book lists for images, but it turns out its wrong there too.
Hmmmmm.......Vanishing title
Any Given Doomsday is now correctly on my list but the new ER book I have been told I am receiving
Sworn to Silence by
Linda Castillo disappeared. It was there and I checked that I had not received it yet and now it is gone.
I'm about to do something to the data. Hopefully not too drastic ;-)
I'll let you know when its done, and then we can do a big recheck.
Thanks
Thanks for waiting.
1. I had to reset the "not-received" times because of a data mistake on my part, sorry about that. You'll have to re-click "I didn't receive this" where applicable.
2. I ran through the last few of reported missing books and now they all seem present and accounted for, with the exception of wisewoman's missing "Creating a Cooperative Learning Center" , which my data has listed as a Member Giveaway (and therefore will show up on a new page another day)
So, fire away with your missing books or reviews. Thanks for your help. As I was explaining to Abby, the data we get on these things is pretty varied, so I might hand-check a dozen accounts and see everything as hunky-dory, when in fact there are still some kinks to be worked out.
If you were worried: We haven't moved the selection algorithm over to using the new data set because, as you can see, we had some things to sort out in our new data. If your reviews are up to date you have nothing to fear.
It's still only showing the one book I never got. The first book I got and reviewed isn't there, nor is the third book I just won. I did have to re-click the "I didn't get this book" link, so it's updated again.
This is a very handy feature; I appreciate the hard work!
My list was correct at the beginning but now has 2 errors: There is a duplicate of
The Blue Notebook and an incorrect listing of
Tiny Clubs which should be
Half Broke Horses.
Problems growing .....
The new Linda Castillo Book "Sworn to Silence" that I was told I was getting is still not there ( but did show up when I checked this tab originally)
Tiny Clubs is listed but I have never heard of this book.
Rocket Man is now showing as not received - that is correct. I should have gotten in last fall and it never arrived..... : (
Everything looks good except it shows Tiny Clubs which is a book that I never received - or was told I was going to get. Other than that, this is looking great!
I noticed that after message #149 by Luke that my list had changed when it was working fine. I now have a book listed that I won through the member giveaway program and a book that as far as I know I never won.
Twilight of the Habsburgs : the Life and Times of Emperor Francis Joseph by Alan Palmer : I received this book March 4, 2009 through the member giveaway program. I still have not done a review.
Tiny Clubs by Geoff Wyss: Which I never won.
Otherwise everything else that is listed is/was fine.
Thanks for all your hard work with this Luke!!
Last month, I didn't receive my 3rd book to review
Beautiful Moon by Dawn Jeffers. When I checked FAQ, the instructions are to wait 2 months before bugging Abby. Do you still want me to wait 2 months b4 clicking the "Whoops, I didn't really receive this book," spot? If yes, maybe the directions can be added to a "Less IMPORTANT stuff" note.
My 4th book "is in the mail" (and it's for grownups) :-D
This feature is AMAZING!! It will be so great when everything is up and running with no little critters. I'm glad you guys (and girls) love doing this... I appreciate it.
Yup, me too. It was fine last week, but now has
Tiny Clubs where
Taken should be.
It now has me listed as having won "Tiny Clubs", which appears not to have ever even been an ER book, and I certainly never requested.
Tiny clubs are infesting our new toy. Bummer.
I also have
Tiny Clubs which I did not ask for.
Thanks for all your hard work to make LT an even better place.
Wow, Tiny Clubs for everyone. I'll deal with it after I get these kids to bed.
You can click it whenever you want. Still wait 2 months before bugging Abby ;-)
So... I killed Tiny Clubs for everyone, I think it was junk data, and I only have it in our master list as a Member Giveaway. Let me know if you miss it.
In fact, no need to bug Abby at all, now that she can just see whether you've marked it received or not! :)
Mine look perfect now. Thanks for all your work, Luke!
OK - my info on
Eve of Darkness is still wrong. Not only is it showing the wrong cover, now it's showing that I haven't reviewed the book. I went to the record and "edited" the review, but that didn't change anything. I am also missing the book from the June round,
Sworn to Silence, but maybe it's too soon for it to be on this list?
Tiny Clubs is gone - thanks, Luke - but I snagged
Taken this month, and it is missing.
Like 173, Any Given Doomsday doesn't recognize that I reviewed it.
Sorry Luke but
An Elegy for Easterly has disappeared from my list again, otherwise everything else looks fine.
Ditto riverwillow's message above. An Elegy for Easterly has disappeared altogether from my list again too.
Everything is fine for me now Luke. Thanks again for all you hard work on getting this feature up and running smoothly.
The list of books looks good. My one that was missing a cover now has one.
However,
Any Given Doomsday wasn't showing that I actually received it and isn't recognizing my review now when it did before.
My list is giving me credit for having reviewed Patient Zero - and while it will probably have a review sometime this week, it really doesn't now.
I've also had the book I just got from this month's batch disappear from the list of books I've won (
A Year of Cats and Dogs).
Everything else is accurate. :)
I'm regenerating the reviews, you may see some disappear for a minute. Hang tight.
OK. Reviews up to date. A few other fixes that should help. I'm checking your recent posts to see whats left.
Message edited by its author, Jul 7, 2009, 10:34am.
I've got all of my books - and only my books - but the sorting's gone wonky. It was books from the most recent batches on top, going down, but I can't figure out the order now.
Not a big deal, just FYI.
Almost good.
The Arthurian Omen still is not recognized as owned or reviewed. Otherwise the order appears to be sorta random.
My list is OK now, except it's not listing
Half Broke Horses.
Many thanks for all your hard work.
My list is not working today. I am missing "Good doctors" (for which I have a review) and "Calligrapher's daughter" which I just received. Also the picture for one of the books is missing. Everything was fine just a day ago.
I still need to have my latest -
Taken - added. I haven't actually gotten it yet, but it needs to be on my list. Thanks, Luke.
LibraryThingLuke, I'm impressed with how quickly you corrected my list! However, there is still one omission, The Whiskey Rebels by David Liss which I reviewed on 9/4/08.
Almost there - but I'm still having problems with
Eve of Darkness. It shows that I've received the book, but doesn't show that I've reviewed the book (which I have) - and it doesn't have the "Write a Review" link. And, the cover is still wrong.
Thanks, Luke for all your work!
We had some funny workcodes and isbns that Abby is cleaning up. I'm going to re-run the check for reviews shortly and let you know when its done. You guys are super helpful, thanks!
I think I'm done cleaning up ISBNs, and Luke is re-checking for reviews now...
All my books are now correct, although the sorting is wonky as 183 said.
Ok, now everything appears to be correct (except sorting), I'm going back to my original question.
I received
The Charlemagne Pursuit instead of
The Baby Thief, I suspect This will require Abby or someone to go and change the data in the table to correct it. Abby said earlier to wait (and I am), but most of the other known problems seem to be fixed, so, I thought I'd bring this back up.
Previously,
Certain Jeopardy was showing up as received but not reviewed. That was swiftly fixed (review url:
http://www.librarything.com/work/7471187... ), but with the latest rounds of tweaking, the book is missing from my list entirely. Now, if that increases my odds of winning a book because it decreases my number of previous wins, I'll not complain, but I thought I'd let you guys know anyway!
>193
Should be fixed now!
Sometime in the last few days
Sweetgum Ladies Knit for Love fell off my list. I don't have it yet, but got a message that it will be coming.
Others seem fine
The Whoops link is fine, thanks! Does that sort look better?
197, 194: Should be ok now.
Perfect. Thanks, Luke and Abby. What a cool feature.
>195
Should be fixed.
Luke and/or I are going to run through this whole message and check each individual case to make sure we're all clear now...
199 > Does that sort look better? No.
Luke's fixing the most recent batch
203: Got it.
My list is all there, all my reviews are counted and the sort is correct.
Thank you its wonderful. Can we please have the link in a more accessible place, like in the ER box on the home page.
204/205- THANKS! you guys are great!
>206
yup, once we get it all clean, I'll be putting a link to it all over
My list looks good now but I can't get the cover of The Strain to show. Btw, thanks for all your hard work guys.
I spoke to soon. I have never received Maimonides: and the Biblical Prophets by Israel Drazin and each time I hit the Whoops link to correct that it resets for some reason. I've done it three times now, twice in the last 5 minutes.
Thx
210: There was a bug in there, just got it. Thanks. I marked it for you while testing.
Thank you - works like a charm now. Any idea what's up with the cover of The Strain? It's still a no-show.
Yeah, must have been bad input. I'll check it shortly. One more rabbit to get out of my hat first.
212/LeahSimone: Check your images?
215: Inconceivable! I'm on it.
edit: Loaded in A Constant Heart
Message edited by its author, Jul 7, 2009, 4:20pm.
All fixed! Awesome! :D Thanks.
Mine's fixed as well! Thank you!
I'm missing two books: The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society and The Whiskey Rebels.
219: There you go.
Thanks!
Not really errors (all of mine are there fine, and I've marked the one that never showed up), but two comments:
- In what order are they listed in? It's clearly not order won, order reviewed, author's name, or title. That bothers me.
- When you initially click "I haven't received this book" the date is put in format M/D/YYYY, which is inconsistent with the rest of the page's use of YYYY-MM-DD. But when I refresh the page, it's swapped over to be YYYY-MM-DD.
So nitpicky I'm sorry!
Have you guys been diddling with the feature? Because now the books are in a different order than they were, and now one is missing from my list. The missing one is
American Rust, and I'm
pretty sure it was last time I checked.
Rocket Man disappeared from my list. (Or maybe it just took off??) ;)
I'm missing
The Charlemagne Pursuit, which I believe was a bonus batch from September, 2008. Or I received it because there were additional copies made available (as someone mentioned earlier). Otherwise, my list is correct.
#225 - Bwaa haa haa! :oD
Sooooo close to being perfect!
Misery Loves Cabernet is now missing from my list. Otherwise it's awesome!
Mine got messed up again.
It said I didn't receive
Cool Jew. I did receive it, and I wrote a review.
Plus two books are now missing. They are
The Good Thief and
Secret Son. I wrote reviews for both as well.
Message edited by its author, Jul 7, 2009, 8:42pm.
222: I was changing the dates over, missed one, thanks. As for order: I'm working on that. We have some older data that was recorded differently and so I'm trying to massage it a little. Ideally your most recent ones will end up on top.
223, 224: Done
225: Done (And I think its gonna be a long, long time...see what you've done?)
226: Done
228: Done
All of my books are listed now! Thanks! :)
My list says that I reviewed
Love Marriage &
Spirit of the Place, but I didn't receive either one & never reviewed them. Everything else looks good. I love this feature!
#230 - They're all back. Thanks. They aren't in chronological order any more, though.
(Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids...)
Can we start a New Features post, Luke, and link to it from the blog?
>234
I'm on it.
My list now shows that I haven't reviewed Playing With the Grown-Ups, which I have (though that review is one of the ones that shows the date posted as 12/31/69.
@201
Yep, it's all fixed.
Thanks so much for all the hard work y'all are doing for us!
232: I think I fixed that.
236: I'll look at it tomorrow probably, but if you want you can try editing and saving your review (add a space or something), and see if it fixes your list.
That worked- I'm all set now. Thanks!
238, All fixed - thanks!
I added a space to one of my book reviews and it now shows that I reviewed it but it does show it as being reviewd today.
Also, one of the books I'd reported as not received showed up as having been received as of June 30, 2009. I marked the "whoops" thingy again and now it shows that I have not received it.
Just FYI
:-)
242: Yup, that review date is a bit of an odd side effect, we get the last-edited date. Also, I had to reset the Whoops dates when I was refreshing data, see msg 150 for details.
>216 The Strain cover is there. Thanks!
I'm still missing The Whiskey Rebels, otherwise perfect.
224/abealy: Should be ok now.
246/Oregonreader: Added.
Thanks.
Thanks Luke!
It's so pretty and perfect now! Thank you!
Oh what a great feature! One note: Every Boat Turns South by J.P. White appears on my list (correctly) but with the wrong cover, and the title links to a different book. I've written a review for Every Boat Turns South but not, obviously, for the different book. Right now it's showing that I've not reviewed the book. I'm guessing the problems are linked?
>250
Working on it now
252 got it, thanks
Thanks!
I haven't read all 254 previous messages, but one of my ER books doesn't show on my list. The Charlemagne Pursuit.
255: Thanks, got it.
Whoops! And also
Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. Maybe there are others. This will be a good feature when the bugs are worked out since I can't rely on my memory, even for a short list.
One of my ER books, Investing 101 by Kathy Kristof, does not show up in my list. I posted my review in October 2008.
I also have an ER book that doesn't show up. Certain Jeopardy by Jeff Struecker.
In case it's useful to know, I reviewed a book today, and checked five minutes later, and my review had been recorded.
Mine says I haven't received any. I do remember getting Gray Apocalypse.
261> Gray Apocalypse was a Member Giveaway, not included in this list.
257: I think that's a member giveaway book, won't be on this list. Stay tuned for a Member Giveaway page.
258/MrJack: done
259/brendaholmes : done
264/pkw87 Got it, thanks!
My list is missing the following, which I am pretty sure (the best I can do these days - LOL) came from the ER program:
The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan - already reviewed
and
firefly lane by Kristin Hannah - also "abc"... errr, I mean "abr"
Thanks for the great new feature!
>266
All set!
Thanks, Abby!
See #257. I don't think this was has been fixed yet.
etrainer: see 263, I believe that that The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is a Member Giveaway book, and not an Early Reviewers book, and as such it wouldn't be on this list. I'll ask Abby to double check.
Yes, Sweetness was a member giveaway.
>270
Yes, Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie was MG, not ER.
Thank you for this feature, it is great.
I do have a review that is not showing up even though it shows up on the book details page. The book is
The Fire by Katherine Neville.
I see it on your page, can you check again? Second to the bottom
Thank you. I had went in yesterday and re-saved my details page for that book. Maybe that corrected the issue? Not sure. Either way it is showing as reviewed now and that is all that matters. Thank you once again.
Can not get my review of
Olive Kitteridge that I wrote today to show up as complete on the Books I Won. Tried saving book details page again and still does not work. Help.
276 Got it, thanks.
ack! I just checked to make sure my latest review is reflected in my "Books you've won" list (it is) -- but noticed that the status of The Spirit of the Place (previously marked not received from the Mar08 batch) had spontaneously reverted back to received and awaiting review :(
I re-marked it not received, but is there a bug involved, eg when the system updates our list after a new review?
278: Probably my fault. I had to re-do a few bits of data, long story. Sorry about that. Glad you re-marked it.
I love this new feature, and in the spirit of "what a great thing you did, now do something else", lol, I can't tell you how much I would LOVE to also have a "ER books requested" link somewhere, if this is even remotely possible. Frequently there are books I request that I don't get that I'm interested in enough to want to get them on my own later, but it's hard to keep track of those. Just thought I'd put it out there...
280: me too me too! this is an oft-requested feature I believe...
>280.
You could take all the "interesting" ER books and add them to your Wishlist collection. If you receive one, you move it out of Wishlist, and ever other book just stays there until you buy (and then move) them.
282: I think what we're asking for is an easy button to click to add an ER book to the Wishlist when we are requesting it. I know I could go through one by one every month to add them, but I'm basically lazy and would love an easier checkbox option...
>283.
But that begs LT as a book source, which is not yet available. In the mean time, that's your best bet.
Three of my books have very recent review dates on the Books You've Won Page, even though they were reviewed longer ago and the reviews themselves have the correct dates on them. (These are not books that were originally missing from my list, or anything like that.) I just noticed this today, and don't think it was always that way. Is this a significant glitch? The books are
Dream Lucky,
Pressure is a Privilege and
Annie's Ghosts.
Message edited by its author, Jul 30, 2009, 10:38am.
>285 did you recently edit those reviews?
I edited one of mine yesterday and the same happened -- review kept the original date and Books You've Won page reflected the edited date.
I thought of that...I think I did edit a spelling error in one of them, but I certainly didn't edit all three reviews.
If you go back to the reviews page now, do they still have the old/original date?
It's not going to hurt your ER chances, we just grab the last review date for our table when we load data in.
>Luke, not sure if this Q is to me but my displays still show as indicated in msg 286. Altho it'd be nice for consistent dates to be pulled across LT, whatever the algorithm likes, I like.
289: Which book was it?
For mine, these three books all have July 27, 2009, as the review date on the Books You've Won page. Correct dates appear on the review page, and are indicated below ETA: Sorry,
Annie's Ghosts says it was reviewed on July 12, 2009, but June 16th is the correct date.
Dream Lucky 3-30-08
Annie's Ghosts 6-16-09
Pressure is a Privilege 8-6-08

290:
Methland by Nick Reding
Review: Jul 28, 2009
Books you've won: Jul 29, 2009
Great, thanks both of you.
I think I got it. If you see another book that is wrong, try opening your review and hitting save (with no changes), it should re-update with the correct date. I did the 4 listed in 291 and 292.
Let me know,
Luke
Well done, Luke. Thank you.
Mine is a matched set now, too.
I won this book in May: What's a Mother (in-Law) To Do? by Jane Angelich (Howard Books).
In my Books I Won page I updated this book as not received on Jul 8. I still have not received it and would like to update it as still not received so that you can see the most current date (Aug 2). Is there a way to do this?
I don't think the date matters for not received.
I think the date matters because if it is
- 4 weeks since won, the book may still be coming
- 8 weeks since won, the book may still be coming
- 10 weeks since won, book may not be coming
- 12 weeks since won, the publisher never sent the book
If I indicate at 4 weeks that I did not receive the book, then at 12 weeks, if never updated you can not tell the status; I may have received it and never changed the status and LT will never know if I should or should not have a review completed. The purpose of being able to update "I STILL have not received the book" is valuable information to all parties involved: the publisher (something happened to a shipped book), LT (the publisher is not reliable and the reviewer still is), the reviewer (me--I am still holding up my end of the bargain to do a review if the book comes and will not be penalized for never doing a review if I never received the book).
If every reviewer clicks the "did not receive" early on and then never updates they received it, then the system will not work because reviewers will not get penalized for not reviewing a book they DID receive but never updated the "Books I won" page.
Clear as mud??? :)
298: If you (generic) mark a book lost, then do receive it without reviewing it, that's unethical. That's the member's fault, not the publisher's. And Abby did put a blurb in the faq that staff'll keep a close eye on people who consistently mark "never received".
It does relate to the question in this post though, which is the opposite.
http://www.librarything.com/topic/70137#How should I have handled this?
I was told I was winning
Sworn to Silence but never received it.....after a long time I assumed it wasn't coming. Since I very much wanted to read it, I checked it out from the library. Then I reviewed it. Of course two days later (today) it came in the mail. I went to the Early Reviewers tab to update that I got the book. I was surprised that it was automatically updated and assumed I got the book when I reviewed it......FYI, I have been told I was receiving another book in the past that never came........
So...if we are told we will be getting an early reviewers book - how long should we wait for it? Does that mean we can never review a book we MAY be getting?
Edited to add ---- Oops, I just looked, this books was a June book... I thought it was older than that. I guess I was impatient and should not have reviewed it yet.....
Message edited by its author, Aug 4, 2009, 5:20pm.
Hi- the book that is showing as the one that I was supposed to receive and review: Traveler's Tool Kit: Mexico & Central America by Rob Sangster, has a slightly different history. First, I was told I had won it, and that I was going to receive it, but then Abbey emailed me that no, I wasn't going to receive it, it was a mistake. And, I never did, nor did I expect it. Now it's showing as an unreviewed book. The link "Whoops, I have not received it" toggles only to "I received it", so there is no way to report it.
I wouldn't mind reading it, so if there is a way of getting it, I would be happy to have a look at it.
Thanks
301: I deleted that book from your list. No worries.
My list is accurate. Thanks for posting this. Because you added this feature I was able to see that there was one book that I had never done a review on. I am happy to say that all of my books now have reviews.
Thanks Luke!
I added the ability to say "I still have not received this book," which will update the date stamp. Also fixed a sorting issue, I think.
*And* Luke made it so you can't actually mark a book un-received until it's been at least 60 days since you won it. Give the mail a chance, my impatient friends!
Somebody also added a box that shows the shipping address you've registered with on the ER list. Sure makes it easy to be sure you've got the right address listed.
Thanks!
I just saw something very odd on the books I won tab. It says I won a copy of
Firefly Lane back in December of 2007? I never won this book. I did however buy a copy of this book back about the first of this year and reviewed it then. It looks like it took 2 years for me to review that book. =( Its never taken me that long to review a ER book.
Thanks Luke for making this feature more accurate and I think more meaningful to everyone--reviewers, publishers, and LT. I love the Books I Won page. Great job!
308: We don't mind how long it takes at this point, as long as its done. There were a bunch of winners that didn't get notification in the usual way for that book, because the publisher decided to give away extra copies. It looks like you ended up on that list.
Luke I don't think you understand, I didn not recieve the book through Library thing. I bought the book myself. Also I won one of the first books given away called
River Wife which does not show up on my list.
>311
So this is somewhat of a bizarre case. You actually *did* win the book, we just never told you that you had. And then it never showed up in the mail, so you truly never knew. And then you bought it yourself, and reviewed it. I think probably the easiest solution here is for us to just remove you from the winner list for the book. Though in all honestly, it's not hurting anything for the book (and review) to remain on your "books you've won" list. But if you want it gone, we can make that happen.
And I'll add the River Wife!
LOL Abby that is so wild. Naw just leave it like it is. I thought it would mess up my list by having it as a book I won. Which I actually did and didn't know. I'm sorry I truly didn't mean to make a fuss about something so silly as this. =)
