55kmhyle
Jul 15, 2009, 10:33am

54- ForeignCircus- if you'd like to follow through with Angeling the 2 you got, that's fine, and I can send the other 2. It looks like there were 2 copies of booktrash's first request and we both got one. I think the only way to "release" them to me would be to cancel your request, since it's not "reserved" in your name so you could ask the owner to switch the reservation. However, I've only been doing the Angel thing for about a month and a half, so other folks on here may have a suggestion.

57kmhyle
Jul 15, 2009, 11:31am

56- That sounds good to me. A single book will be a good introduction to sending internationally. The last single book I sent to the UK didn't need a customs form and only cost about $6 for first class (of course that all depends on weight).

56/57: I strongly recommend using customs forms on all international mooches. They may go through without them, but would you really want to pay repeat postage?

62kmhyle
Jul 15, 2009, 3:39pm

61- do you mean that the PO would return it to me and I'd have to send it again? Or would they make the recipient pay something? My PO folks are the ones who said I didn't need to do customs forms unless it weighed more than a pound. Luckily, I'm still waiting for most of the books I am angeling to arrive, so from now on I'll do a form no matter what.

56- Sorry for leading you astray, ForeignCircus. That's what I love about the BM forum on LT- everyone is so helpful!!

63RidgewayGirl
Jul 15, 2009, 3:49pm

Under a pound, you don't need to fill out a customs form. The postal clerk will weigh the package and tell you if you need one. Some people like to have them ready just in case, and postal workers will often go ahead and attach them if you ask them to. I fill a customs form out if it's a bit heavier than normal and it usually isn't needed, but it beats having to wait in line twice.

64TheLeMur
Jul 15, 2009, 4:01pm

I always fill out a customs form just in case. Every time I go to the post office I just grab a bunch, so I don't have to worry about filling them out when I go to mail the books, but can do them on my own time beforehand.
I think if the book is over the weight limit and you don't have a form on it, they return it to the sender.

65ForeignCircus
Jul 15, 2009, 5:15pm

62> no worries. I have possibly the best post office location ever for mailing packages overseas so I know they'll steer me in the right direction.

>67
Thanks so much for checking your collection for me, that is so sweet, whether you had the book or not.

The copy that showed as reserved for me was not the one that I tried to mooch--it was gone. The reason that one showed as reserved, is that one of our regular posters here (who I won't name in case it embarrasses her), searched her own collection, listed a book she hadn't planned to give away, and reserved it for me.

That's two wonderful people who were willing to give me their copies!

Thank you to you both!!!
