Not scream, but I like how it ties in with prior guesses. :-) 16mirrordrumis it a unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another? i do *not* understand this concept but it's the word that popped up first. go figure. 18SugarCreekRanchI have always deemed internet memes to be silly. But then, I thought it was pronounced "mee-mee". As in, "it's all about meeee!", which fits with the memes I've seen. Shows how much I know. 19mirrordrumit can be pronounced either way although meem is the preferred pronunciation. lessee, is it one of the nice fissshes of the genus Abramas and in particular A. brama with silvery scales? is that it, preciousss? 20DirtPriestis it brightly reflective? (My mistake on doubling meme, I thought it was mirrordrum's thread and she gave a too obvious clue. Oops) 21SugarCreekRanchAbramas Brama is a 70's rock band from Stockholm. It seems like there is a joke in here somewhere about Swedish Fish, but I don't quite have it. Regardless, my word is not bream. 24SugarCreekRanchCrambo players are both bright and reflective, but my word is not agleam. edited to turn off the strikies! 25SugarCreekRanchI love the stream of guesses, but I'm not so wild about Kenny and Dolly. 26DirtPriestWell, based on your profile picture I thought you might have four hungry children and a crop in the field. I did rule you out as coward of the county, though. 27mirrordrumdirtpriest, i am horribly envious of your ability to come up with great guesses. disgusting creature. ;) 28DirtPriestdon't be too envious, my dear. I'm stumped as of right now. Wait, maybe not... I declare it necessary that this is a guess.. 31SugarCreekRanchI am only coming up with deem, but it was guessed in #15 and ruled out in #18. Was that your word, or should I keep thinking? 32DirtPriestThose crossed out words are apparently hard to read. My error. I must be tired so that's it for tonight. 33SugarCreekRanchCLUES: It has multiple syllables. I first encountered this word in a book I'm currently reading. 34mirrordrumcould it be what George Meredith describes as "flashing" and "sudden-lighted"? even if not, i like the image. 35SugarCreekRanchThank you for pointing me toward that poem! But my word is not whitebeam. It is not any word that ends in 'beam' such as sunbeam, moonbeam, etc. 36mirrordrumyeah, i thought not but couldn't resist the word or the line(s). am not going to guess any more as I'm manually swamped for the next 2 days and, on the off chance i won, I'd not be able to play responsibly. I'll follow with rapt attention, though. 37mirrordrumoh well nuts. it won't be this one but i can't resist the guess. is it that ship Masefield imagines that brought Solomon from Ophir to Palestine, deep-laden with peacocks and ivory, with scented woods and sweet white wine? edited for punctuation. 38SugarCreekRanchQuinquireme is quite a word -- no wonder you couldn't resist guessing! But, no. 40SugarCreekRanch39 - I'm not sure I have this right, but is your word gleam? If that's not your word, I need a little help. Is the beam you speak of made of light, or is it a part of a structure? 41mirrordrum#38 yeah, it's a nice long word. comes from reading all that Mary Renault with the Greeks and Syracusans and such haring round the Aegean in their various 'remes. my guess: is it the flow of water that turns the stone that grinds the wheat that goes in the bread that jack bakes? surely you knew this word before reading one of those books but maybe not. 42SugarCreekRanchNot millstream. It is not any word that ends in stream. 43SugarCreekRanchCLUES: It has multiple syllables. I first encountered this word in a book I'm currently reading. It is not a compound word (ending in beam, stream, etc). It's from zoology. 44mirrordrumaHA! i toyed with those but i didn't think they fit any of your books. i shall want to know which book and context at some point. :) how about the axial thread of a chromosome? i can think of no way to make that more challenging or interesting. 46SugarCreekRanchNot axoneme. I can think of nothing witty to say about it, either. Remember to check my profile to see which books I'm currently reading, it may help narrow it down. 47mirrordrumah scr, i have checked your books. not twice, not thrice but. . .er, quadruple times. it hasn't helped yet as i know about them only: nebraska/magic, harry p/fantasy/magic and australia. *sigh* forging on. . . 49SugarCreekRanchCalwise has got it! The word was monotreme, a mammal that lays eggs. The only examples are the platypus and the echidna, which are only found in Australia in New Guinea. Bill Bryson wrote about them in A Sunburned Country. Great game, everyone. Wonderful, witty guesses that taught me something. I'm looking forward to Calwise's game. A tip for Calwise -- before selecting your word, scan the list and see if that rhyme has already been used. It's more fun to use a rhyme that hasn't been used before, so the guessers have to work harder. Join to post | AboutThis topic is not marked as primarily about any work, author or other topic.
