Aug 25, 2009, 3:02pm (top)Message 1: felineladythinking of starting a line of products promoting cats and libraries or cats and books--like T shirts, mugs, bookmarks, etc.... What do people think of this ---do you think it would be profitable --would book-loving ailurophies or cat - loving bibliophiles or library cat people buy the dood dads---... Thanks for input The Felinelady aka Felibrarian Aug 25, 2009, 9:43pm (top)Message 2: BookLizardI have: The coffee mug and the book bag that say, "Books. Cats. Life is good." A blanket and a wall tapestry of a cat snoozing on a bookshelf. Several cat-themed bookmarks. A few books about cats! I'd say it could be profitable if you offer a quality product. Aug 25, 2009, 11:41pm (top)Message 3: felineladyHow did you market your product or reach an audience? How did people who love cats/books/libraries find you? Did you hire a graphi designer and web designer? My understanidng is that it is a major undertaking that could easily lose money. Thanks Felibrarian BTW A friend of mine bought me the book bag--books --cats--life is good. Aug 26, 2009, 12:28am (top)Message 4: BookLizardI didn't sell, I bought (or had them given to me as gifts). So there is a market for the product. Folks I know who sell stuff do it through Etsy or Cafe Press. Most of them are artsy-crafty types. Are you an artist? Aug 26, 2009, 12:35am (top)Message 5: felineladyThanks---Have you made money--or have you profitted from your investment. I am not business--savvy and so am doing this in the dark. However, my idea was bascially nixed by a relative who has tons of experience marketing these type of objects and does not feel that it would be a profitable venture. I am not an artist. But I have an artist friend. Maybe I could experiment with a small quantity at first and do the cafe Press thing which I have heard about. I want o reach cat loving book people of course. searching for a talk on cat books, i found this first, so --
Just OK'ed my proof of THE CAT WHO THOUGHT TOO MUCH. I am excited because I have seen the FEROCIOUS debates among reviewers of a cat book at Amazon (The Nine Emotional Lives of Cats by J M Masson) and cannot wait to see such energy pro and con direct ed to my first venture into felinity. I, too, would love to make and market cat products -- ideal cat toys, for what i see in stores are poorly designed and too expensive. Re cats and books, i think that the suggestion by Huxley (Aldous) that all who would write start by adopting a pair of cats is right on. BookLizard, while Puerto Rican crested lizards do seem tomcatish, only dueling gecko seem to me analogous to cats, not that you said a word about this. Seeing your name, i could not help adding it, as I added a couple pages on gecko to my cat book. Debug test: your member name is: |
