What's the most unusual bookmark you've ever used?

Although not like "I NEVER would have thought of that!", I am using the hospital bracelet that I cut off when I arrived home last week after surgery.

Perfume wouldn't work for me. My smeller wouldn't be able to distinguish which page it was on, just that the whole book made me sneeze!

I usually end up using the receipt from the store where I bought the book.
I made a bunch of bookmarks using up scraps of Kapco covers and wordle designs with the names of YA authors.
Wordle.net is way fun by the way. The first one I made for my daughter was made up of words and names from Harry Potter. If you use names, don't put a space between the first and last.

I opened a book my husband was reading and found a 5000 soles note from Peru--never in circulation, still nice and crisp. It's about 20 years old and was worth about 10 cents US at the time it was issued. Peru was going through hyper-inflation.

when I worked in the public library we regularly found non bookmark booksmarks...receipts, shopping lists, library cards, credit cards, and money, toilet paper (unused!). At the school library I once found a child's sock being used as a bookmark.

buttered?

You know, jam will help stop it sliding out of the book.

Jam is useful, but always remember to keep the jam side towards the page you've already read.

The seeds work like little tiny cleats.

If you're a really clever spreader, the jam serves as a highlighter for key passages.

When my children were small--Calvin and Hobbes books were the designated books to read while eating--poor things are covered in jam.

I love reading books and finding cards, notes, scraps etc from when I first read it. It's so evocative of a past era.

In a high school library I have found missives of love, five dollar bills, ID cards, detention slips, and other evidence of high school life in returned books. (I only keep the notes and return the other stuff.)

I have 2 boxes full of ligit bookmarks. I can't keep from buying unsual ones.
Right now I am using a clothing tag from a size 6 pair of shorts. I am so happy to be able to wear a size 6.

>I would definitely put a size 6 tag in my books! (I'm slender, but a size 10.)

Well one time I picked flowers while walking home and then I used the flowers as bookmarks..
