Would people like to post their updated VMC wants lists here, so that when I'm out and about I can look out for them.

Sep 17, 2009, 5:38pm (top)Message 2: LizzieD

I don't have to be asked twice. Thank you for the thought, Teazle!

#1 by G.B. Stern ~ Mosaic, Shining and Free, and The Young Matriarch (O.K. I think these don't exist as Viragos. Does anybody know?) (Too lazy to look through the list right now)
#2 ANYTHING by Winifred Holtby except Poor Caroline and South Riding
#3 A Pin to See the Peep Show by F. Tennyson Jesse
#4 Trooper to the Southern Cross by Angela Thirkell (I adore her, but didn't know that this one existed.)

I'd love to have a copy of Sylvia Ashton-Warner's Spinster.

Sep 17, 2009, 8:37pm (top)Message 4: nannybebette

I am seeking:
The Summer House Trilogy by Alice Thomas Ellis.
The Sheik by E.M. Hull (as that was my maiden name)
Elizabeth von Arnim's: All the Dogs of My Life, Fraulein Schmidt and Mr. Anstruther, Love, The Solitary Summer and Mr. Skeffington.
Mary Webb's: The Golden Arrow and The Armour Wherein He Trusted.
Barbara Comyns: The Vet's Daughter, The Skin Chair, and Sisters by a River.
Don't want much, do I? But I am not a Virago green purist and would take any copy.
thank you,
belva

>#12:
Barbara;
Is that the one we laughingly called "half a Virago" with the crummy cover? The one that you "didn't write in"? The one that is now entitled Talk of Angels? Because I am looking at my Kate O'Brian's and not seeing a Mary Lavelle.
But wait; On the intro page it says and I quote: "This is the situation of Kate O'Brien's Mary Lavelle."

Hey Teazle, I have Mary Lavelle but it isn't Mary Lavelle any longer. It is now Talk of Angels.

Whew, I need a nap. That was a brain-strain.
Thank you Barbara. Where on earth would I be without my friends?
Love ya,
belva

#2 LizzieD, I have a copy of A Pin to see the Peepshow available. It's a later green-spined edition without the white lines on the front cover.

#7 hjelliot, I have All Passion Spent, again without the white lines.

#10 tiffin, I have a spare copy of My Brilliant Career, but it's a recent edition with a very orange cover, so don't feel you have to have it!

#11 laytonwoman3rd, I have Elizabeth and Her German Garden, as with the others, without white lines.

Sep 18, 2009, 6:28pm (top)Message 17: LizzieD

OH!!! Generous Teazle,do you feel like sending A Pin to See the Peepshow over here??????
I'd love it, and because it's still green, I'll love it even more! I don't need white lines, and like Belva, I would be delighted to help with the postage!!!!!!!

Sep 18, 2009, 6:32pm (top)Message 18: laytonwoman3rd

Thank you, Caroline. I'm not a purist, and I would be happy to give Elizabeth and her garden a new home. (I hadn't even realized that some of them had the lines and some didn't. Now that I look at my collection carefully, I see I have a fair representation of both, as well as many black ones.)

Sep 18, 2009, 8:13pm (top)Message 19: europhile

Rob:

Give me your address and I'll send Spinster to you. I have 2 copies, you see (1 VMC and one hardback edition).

Sep 18, 2009, 8:36pm (top)Message 20: hjelliot

Teazle, I have recently become a virago purist (is there such a thing?) and only collect the older green ones with the white lines. It keeps me from collecting too too much and they look so tidy on the shelf together! ;) So All Passion Spent is still up for grabs!

Sep 18, 2009, 8:58pm (top)Message 21: Teazle

hjelliot, I understand about being a purist - I collect any edition of VMC's that I find, but will replace them with 'white line' copies if I find them at a reasonable price.

Sep 18, 2009, 9:24pm (top)Message 22: romain

I'm in no position to be a purist and take them anyway I find them, but I have received from PBS half a dozen new style ones in beautiful condition and I am thrilled with them, just because they are new.

As far as wish lists go - reading out of my comfort zone during August has shown me that some of the 'boring' titles I own were absolutely wonderful - in a couple of cases superb. So I am much less sure now about what I do want to acquire.

Like everyone else though - I want a Virago
Illyrian Spring and
Pin to See the Peepshow and anything by Dorothy Canfield Fisher.

Sep 18, 2009, 10:05pm (top)Message 23: mrspenny

>20, 21 - I have tried to find first editions for the early works as well so that probably makes me a purist also but unfortunately they have become very scarce in this part of the world!!

Sep 19, 2009, 1:42pm (top)Message 24: rbhardy3rd

Grant (#19): That's wonderful! Thank you!

Oct 28, 2009, 11:20pm (top)Message 29: mrspenny

>27 - Charlotte - I have a friend who keeps a Virago watch for me when she works at one of the local charity shops and she has given me a duplicate copy of Trooper to the Southern Cross which I can send to you if it is still on your wishlist. If you would like it leave your address on my profile page and I will send it on its way.

ooh thank you Mrspenny! That's very kind of you!

Oct 29, 2009, 8:42pm (top)Message 31: kokipy

Now that is a good example of how I have a lot of Virago authors not in Virago editions. That is Thirkell's book, right? I enjoyed that one and still have it. but not in a virago.
