I often wonder where people get the book they are reading. I am sure I am not the only one. Was it a friend who loaned it to them or maybe they found it in a dusty old used bookstore, maybe they bought it online. I want to know.

Why did you pick this book? Did the cover get your attention? Or maybe it was the title? Did someone recommend you this book?

The list goes on...inquiring minds want to know.

First give the title of your book and the author and then try to answer the questions below. I have added 2 questions. I hope you all don't mind.

1. Where did you get this book?

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

Finished reading The Mystery of the Yellow Room a few days ago.

My review of The Mystery of the Yellow Room is here,

And a more extended version of my thoughts on the book is here,

Am reading Don't Look Now and Other Stories by Daphne Du Maurier now.

I got this book from the library. I've always loved supernatural stories or stories that had an element of suspense. I saw this book in a fellow LT members' library and knew I wanted to read it. I got it yesterday. So far I've read one and a half stories! And it is matching up to my expectations. So far it is as good as I thought it would be.

I am listening to an unabridged audio book of Persuasion by Jane Austen, read by Juliet Stephenson.

Where did you get this book?
I ordered it on-line.

How much did it cost?
I am trying not to think about that, thank you. I think I may have blown my entire book-buying budget for the month.

Why did you pick this to read now?
I've been too tired even to feel like reading, and needed a treat to cheer myself up.

How long has it been on your shelf?
Under 24 hours.

So far, what do you like best about this book?
Love the wit and the subtlety of the writing, and it is being read perfectly.

So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
Better. I expected it to be good and it's wonderful.

What page are you on? How many pages left to go?
I am on disc 6 of 9 and worrying about how quickly I am nearing the end.

What makes this unique?
It is brand new.

# 4 My first encounter with Persuasion came from the BBC program Off the Shelf. I had already read Pride and Prejudice and was a fan of Jane Austen. Off the Shelf was one of my favorite programs and one day they started reading an unabridged version Persuasion. And you know what? It was read by Juliet Stephenson! So, it seems like it's probably the same recording that you are listening to, puddleshark. Later on I bought the complete novels of Jane Austen and read it for myself. It was still as good as the first time. Now, Persuasion is my second favorite Austen novel (right after Pride and Prejudice).

I never tried any novels of Jane Austen on cd. I do personally love Persuasion. Some may think P&P more realistic because of how well people disguise their greed. I think Persuasion shows in some ways more true to life interactions between acqauintances. And that love letter and the wonderful ending tops it all off. I think I may read it again very soon.

The Terror by Dan Simmons

1. I won it from a blog giveaway at http://bermudaonion.wordpress.com/

2. It cost me nothing.

3. When I first got it I was daunted by its size but finally worked up the courage to start it.

4. I’ve had it about 6 months.

5. What I like best about the book is that it has managed to stay interesting so far despite its length. What I don’t like about it is the amount of time it spends talking about woman’s bare breasts. Not that it’s pornographic in any way or even really distasteful it just seems excessive and unnecessary.

6. It’s about what I expected, maybe slightly better because I was afraid it would drag.

7. I’m on page 530, with 425 pages left to go.

8. Nothing unique about the book except the damage I managed to do to the cover by carrying it around.

Tobacco Road by Erskine Caldwell

1. Where did you get this book?
amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
$12.89 -- no price on book, but listed as $18.95 (ridiculous)

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
It just caught my eye.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
a little more than seven months

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? I just started it so really can't judge. It looks like an easy read.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
Just started, can't judge.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I've read the foreword and a few pages. There are 184 pages in the book.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.
Nothing.

OFF TOPIC: How can a book this short be called a novel? Would it not be a novella?

I am reading On the Edge by Ilona Andrews.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com for my Kindle

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
$6.39

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I like the author's other books and this one is getting good buzz in the blogsphere.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Downloaded to the Kindle on Sept. 29 which was its official release day.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
So far it is an interesting world this is lodged between our world and the world of magic. The main character is a strong woman trying to make a life for herself and her younger brothers.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It was a little slow at the start primarily because it took me a while to get into the new world and figure out what was happening.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am at the 27% mark.

I am reading A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny in between the other book I am reading.

1. Where did you get this book?
I don't really know. It looks used. The pages are starting to yellow.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
The price on the book is $4.99. I don't know what I paid.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
It is October! It has become a sort of tradition for a certain group of people to read a chapter a day in October. Each chapter is dated.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Probably a couple of years. I kept missing the start of October and it seemed wrong to read it any other time.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
All I have read is the Prologue and Chapter 1 both of which are told by the watchdog who apparently just watches. Thus far the book is curious. I am tempted to read ahead but will try to restrain myself to get the proper impact.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I really had no expectations. I have read many books by Zelazny. This one is definitely different than his usual style.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am on page 6 and have 274 pages to go.

# 7 "What I don’t like about it is the amount of time it spends talking about woman’s bare breasts. Not that it’s pornographic in any way or even really distasteful it just seems excessive and unnecessary."

That is the same complaint I had with The Pillars of the Earth, which otherwise has a wonderfully fresh plot line. I found the endless descriptions of sex and naked women (or men wanting to see any women they see naked) quite tedious. I had mentioned this fact in my review of the book too.

I am just getting ready to begin The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

1. Where did you get this book?
Originally, IDK. At the moment, I pulled it from one of the shelves in my linen cupboard. (yes, yes, books all over the house)

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
IDK. $13.95.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Because it is Banned Books Week and I only had this one and To Kill a Mockingbird left that I own.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Probably about 8 years.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
IDK, because I am just getting ready to start it. I guess, the cover.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
Same answer as #5.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
Page 0 with 277 pages to go.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.
It's not used, just old and there is nothing unique about it other than it is a Banned Book.

Finished Daphne Du Maurier’s Don’t Look Now and Other Stories Thursday night. It’s an above average book for me. Quite interesting in parts. My review,

or my 50 Book Challenge page,

Right now I'm reading The Hollow Man or The Three Coffins by John Dickson Carr.

I've borrowed this book from the library. Being a mystery buff, I’ve always wanted to read this book as it is considered to be the best locked room mystery ever written. One of my fellow mystery fans is always talking about John Dickson Carr’s works. That was another reason for picking up this book. So far it is living up to my expectations. I’ve finished reading the first two chapters of the book.

Stupid touchstones!

I am reading 'Tis, a Memoir by Frank McCourt.

I got this book from my little local library.

I picked this book as it is the sequel to Angelas's Ashes which I recently read and loved.

It had been on my shelf for only 3 days, which is the length of time it took me to read my previous library pick... The Sugar Queen.

So far what I love is the writing and the author himself as he makes me wish I could have met him. And of course I needed to learn more of his story after reading Angela's Ashes.

So far I'm disappointed in the direction the author's life has taken and that it is taking him so long to figure things out and find himself and his direction. I'm annoyed with him for drinking so much after what he went through with his alcoholic father. He spends way too much and time and money in bars, pubs and clubs even though he seems to be always broke.

I am on page 350. Only about 20 pages to go. I plan to get his Teacher Man from the library soon too.

A sporting biography of Former Olympic Gold medal winner Audley Harrison Realising The Dream.

1. Where did you get this book?
At a car booy sale

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
It cost me 50P it is a hard back in excellent condition and retails for £16:99.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
To get inside Audley's mind lol I have asked him to work with me and will ask him again. For those of you who don't know who he is, he is a British Heavy weight boxer and I believe if he got his head right he would become a world champion.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Two days

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the mans brutal honesty he's story reinforces the link between poverty, crime and lack of education and hence opportunity in life.
Audley like most people from our backgroud had to do it all the hardway, he went onto get himself a degree from a redbrick university, helping to remove the sterotype that all boxers are obtuse. We are not, it takes fortitude and brains to get in the ring and out fox your opponent.
There is nothing I dislike about the book it resonates with me, because I have been there.
6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
When reading books in general I tend to put expectation to one side. I am happy to cast judgement on the book after I have read it. And then I only strive to offer positive criticsm.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
Page 73 at the start of chapter 4 titled aprops An all-round education.
The last page of the book is 245 so not to many left to devour.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it.

The book was unblemished when I bought it but now I have put my name, date of purchase and place of purchase into the inside cover like I do with every book.
I highlighted this Aphorism in green highlighter:

Learn to love adversity and you will learn to love life.

Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo

1. amazon.com

2. $14.95 - $10.17

3. I usually order several books at a time and have many older ones that I have not yet read. There's no rhyme nor reason to my selections. Sometimes I start in one place and read each book as it comes up next -- sometimes I just look until a book grabs me, as in the case of this one.

4. Richard Russo previously, enjoyed it and had always intended to read more. I still have quite a few to go to complete my collection.

I'm currently reading a historical romance, The Bride and the Beast by Teresa Medeiros.

1. Where did you get this book?

I can't remember for sure but I suspect either the used book store or BookMooch.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

Not sure how much it cost me but the cover price is $6.50.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?

I was racing to leave the house yesterday before work and knew I would finish the last few pages of the book I was currently reading. This one was in the bookcase closest to me and I knew it was on one of my Challenge lists. So, I grabbed it and ran out the door.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

Since July 2, 2008 according to the entry date which is probably pretty accurate.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?

It is a pretty entertaining little tale. Kind of a take off of the "Beauty and the Beast" fairy tale, but I'm not entirely sure that the hero is actually beastly. His appearance is pretty ambiguous. I like how the author has made it a mystery.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?

I didn't really have any great expectations going in. I am enjoying the story so that's nice.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

I'm on page 125 of 324.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

It is obviously an older massmarket paperback and is a little yellowed. Haven't really noticed anything else very distinctive about it.

I'm also theoretically still reading Bio of an Ogre but don't have any sort of an update on this one. I really need to pick it back up.

I am reading Frostbitten by Kelley Armstrong.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
I paid $15.21 and the cover price is $26.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series is on my "must read right now" list. I waited only long enough to finish my current book before beginning it.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I added it to my LibraryThing on Oct. 1 and started reading it yesterday.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the relationship between Elena and Clay. I like the mystery aspect of this one as they head to Alaska to track down some werewolves who are man eaters and causing trouble for the other werewolves.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
So far it is as good as I thought it would be. I like the story.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

I'm reading the 1966 Norton Critical Edition of The Turn of the Screw by Henry James

1. Where did you get this book?
A tag sale

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
50 cents (I think) and $1.85

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Because the Monthly Author Reads group is reading Henry James, it seemed a good October read, and it fits into one of my 999 Challenge categories

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Since July of this year

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
(I'm cheating a bit with this answer, as I've read the book before) I like the ambiguity of the text and the question left up in the air about the reliability of the narrator

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
Having read it before, it's about what I expected. A little better, perhaps, because I'm noticing more than I did the first time I read it (and remembering the lectures/discussions about it in class probably helps as well).

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I'm on page 14 of 88 (not counting the extra materials in the Norton Critical).

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

There is an address label on the title page for a Mrs. Ernest L. Hirst of Kew Gardens, N.Y. And while I may find more underlines as I read further, so far the only phrase underlined is "high chair."

Edited to close the bold tag. (Oops)

I am reading Shiver by Maggie Steifvater.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
The cover price is $17.99. The web site says I paid $11.46.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I try to read the YAs I receive fast so that I can donate them my HS Media Center and get them off my huge TBR pile. It has been getting a lot of buzz on the blogs I read and I have been thinking about buying it for a while.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I added it to LibraryThing on October 6.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like that it looks like it will be told from two viewpoints - the girl and the boy who is sometimes a wolf.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I like that it is thus far told in the first person. I like the voice of the boy/wolf. The girl seems to be a little passive in the part I have read so far.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am on page 6 of 392 and just beginning Chapter 3.

I'm reading ‘Under the Greenwood Tree’ by Thomas Hardy, Penguin Classics paperback.

1. Can't remember. I'm pretty sure I had it from a bookshop, as opposed to online (see 3. & 4.).

2. Can't remember, but it says £3-50 on the cover, so I assume this is what I paid.

3. & 4. This is one of the few Thomas Hardy novels I've never read, but I've always been intending to. I think I spotted it in a bookshop sometime, brought it home and put it in my shelves, then promptly forgot about it. So I've no idea how long I've had it. I spotted it again while cataloguing my books on LT and put it in a little pile of unread books I found at the same time, and I got down to it a few days ago.

5. I suppose that what I'm liking best about it is Hardy's prose. But I'm finding this book heavy going. The main protagonists, Dick and Fancy, are the most boring pair of dickheads and I want to throw rocks at them. Also, in my opinion, this edition has a singularly useless and irrelevant set of notes - there have been a number of instances where I could have done with some help with the language and mores of a hundred years ago.

6. Hardy is one of my favourite novelists, ('Far from the Madding Crowd' would be among my half-dozen all-time favourites every time) so I was quite expecting to enjoy this. It's a disappointment. Perhaps it will warm up in the second half.

7. I'm on page 97 out of 159.

8. None - bought it new.

I'm reading Zulu Hart by Saul David

1. I bought this book at Chapter's Bookstore in Langley, B.C.

2. I don't know for sure, but I suspect it was more than I thought I should have as I see I have picked off the price tag.

3. I picked this book to read now because I am working on the Alphabet Challenge and the title of this book starts with "Z".

4. Again not sure, but I think I bought this book early in the year.

5. What I like best about the book is that it is a great story, about the Zulu War in 1879, the massacre at Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. My only complaint is that the main character is only 18 yet he seems to be the one who knows what everyone else should be doing.

6. Actually this book is far better than I thought it would be. The author is an historian so I thought the book would be very dry and full of facts, while he does impart much historical information, he is also delivering a great story.

7. I am on page 316 out of 376, will probably finish it today.

8. New book, so no marks or highlights.

I am reading Once a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
The cover price is $16.00. I paid $10.88.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
It is a YA and I want to read it so that I can get it to my HS Media Center for the kids who love paranormals. I also want to get it off my TBR shelf before something else arrives. The shelf is full and I refuse to start piling books on the floor again when I finally got them all on shelves.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I purchased it on Oct. 2 and added it to LibraryThing on Oct. 6.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the main character. She is a misfit in her family of witches. She has a major case of sibling rivalry with her "perfect" sister Rowena. She has already encountered two men -- a somewhat mysterious professor at NYC who wants her to find a missing family heirloom and a childhood friend that has now returned to the area.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It is good. I am getting involved in the story and want to know what happens next. The style is clear and readable.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

Finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo just now. My review here,

http://www.librarything.com/work/1541442...

Or my 50 Book Challenge Thread,

http://www.librarything.com/topic/72408

I’ve started reading The Girl who Played with Fire. I have borrowed the first two parts of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy from a friend. I've finished the first one so I'm moving on to the second. Not because I loved the first book but because I’m trying to return these books as early as possible so that I can start on something else. So far it seems to be just like the first book. I've finished reading the first 50 or so pages.

Sheba by Jack Higgins.

1. Where did you get this book? Thrift shop

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? 35 cents!

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? It was on top of the pile.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? About 3 weeks.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? Not far enough in it to decide.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? Better...I'm already drawn into the story.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? 10 of 272

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique. Average used book with a few creases.

Redwall by Brian Jacques

1. Where did you get this book? Got it at the bookstore.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? $7.99

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? It was on my self and I've been meaning to get to it. So, why not now?

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? Less than a year but more than 3 months.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? Ok, it's a bit predictable, you know the good guy is going to win. But, then, that's what I like about it. It pulls you right in the story and you end up cheering for the good guy to win.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? It's better than I thought. I've been reading a lot of YA lit lately (trying to get out of my SciFi & Horror rut) and some of the YA stuff turns out to be very well written. The authors don't dumb it down and it makes the stories appealing to all age groups.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? Truthfully, I'm on page 324 which leaves me with about 9 pages to go. There are 333 pages.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique. The only marks are the ones I'm leaving behind. I've been carrying this book with me almost everywhere. It's starting to look as if I sleep with it (oh, wait, I do!).

I am reading Fire by Kristin Cashore.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
The list price is $17.99 and I paid $10.52.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I have been waiting for this since shortly after I finished Graceling. It has been getting a lot of buzz on the blogs I read. I'm also trying to read the YAs I get fast so that I can donate them to my HS Media Center and get them in the hands of my students.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I pre-ordered it on Sept. 18 and added it to my LibraryThing on Oct. 7.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the world. I like political fantasies. I like coming-of-age stories. This is that kind of book.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It is as good as I thought it would be. It is similar in style to Graceling. The pace is rather slow, the language is rich, the conflicts are often internal rather than external. In this case the country is on the verge of war but the main focus is on Fire learning who she is and where she fits in her country.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am on page 310 of 461.

I can recommend this for thoughtful YAs. It is not a light, fluffy read.

Finished The Girl who Played with Fire Thursday night. My review,

http://www.librarything.com/work/1769540...

Or my 50 Book Challenge thread,

http://www.librarything.com/topic/72408

I've started on Murder is Easy by one of my favorite authors Agatha Christie. I picked this book up from a local bookstore. I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl who Played with Fire back to back last week. Now I’m reading this to give me some respite from all those fast paced, action packed, ultra modern books. I'm going to savor this one and it should calm down my nerves! It has been on my shelf for about a week now. It is still too early to tell what I like or dislike about this book. But there are very few Agatha Christie books that I haven't liked. So, there is a fair chance that I'm going to like this one too. This is a brand new book and it's all mine!

Just about to finish Flatland by Edwin A. Abbott

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? £1:50

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I have been reading on and off for a year now and it is enjoyable. Every now and again I come across something in physics and run back to this book. Here is what sparked my latest interest:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uP_d14zi8...

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I bought it in December 2006.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book?
The humour is just great but Abbott was dealing with a difficult topic for the non mathematician.

What don't you like about this book?
There is nothing not to like about it.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I strive to suspend judgement, expctation can be a killer.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
Page 52 another 30 to go.
8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

It has my name in it, as do all of my books. It came new and it is still in good condition.

I am reading Belong to the Night which is an anthology by Cynthia Eden, Shelley Laurenston, and Sherrill Quinn.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com for my Kindle

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
$8.96

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I wanted something light and fluffly. I have read other things by Laurentson and enjoyed them. Who wouldn't want to read a novella entitled "The Wolf, the Witch, and Her Lack of Wardrobe".

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Just downloaded it today.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the witch. She is definitely a "take no prisoners" kind of person.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It is just right for my current reading mood.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I'm am at the 4% mark.

I am reading Dreams from my Father by Barack Obama

1. Where did you get this book? I got the book online from the Quality Paperback Books bookclub.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? I think I got it in a buy one/get one free deal so let's say it was free. It must have been a special printing for them because I do not see a price on the book.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? I had just finished Son: A Psychopath and His Victims by Jack Olsen, which is a creepy biography of Spokane rapist Kevin Coe. I wanted to read something more uplifting and "good for me" after that.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? I've had it on my TBR pile for close to a year.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? I like the tone--humility and the intelligence without sugarcoating what could be viewed negatively by others. I've just started the book, so there isn't anything I don't like, except that I am already aware that it is kind of long and I generally don't care for long books.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? It is better. Easier to read. More interesting.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? 14/450 (Aargh!)

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.
Nothing unique at all except that it doesn't have a price on it.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

1. Where did you get this book?
Barnes and Noble

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
List is $29.95. I think it ended up being around $18.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Finished Wicked and this was next on the list.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Just over a month.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I'm enjoying it. I love the way Brown weaves fact into his fiction. I don't like all the really, really short chapters.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
So far, meeting my expectations.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
90 of 509

I'm reading The Paris Review Interviews edited by Philip Gourevitch

1. Where did you get this book?
The library

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
free for me. The book is marked $16.00.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Because I had a lot of books from the library, I picked this up because I figured it would either be 1. a quick decision whether or not to continue reading it or 2. a quick read.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
about a week or so

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I'm enjoying seeing what different authors say about their craft, their different approaches to writing, and especially their humor

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
Better. When I took a look at the authors included, I was a little disappointed that I'd only read books by a few, and thought that it might be a tad boring to read about authors I'd never read. But the first interview by Dorothy Parker was a hoot, and every interview since then has been equally wonderful, in different ways. (I can just see my TBR pile growing incrementally with each interview)

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
62; 438 to go.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.
just the regular library markings is all

1. Where did you get this book? Amazon

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? $2

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? I wanted something appropriate for the Halloween season.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? About a year.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? It's well written, of course. The only thing I really don't like is the tiny font size, at 41 I'm getting closer to large print every day!

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? About what I expected.

It's been a while since I posted. It's nice to know that my thread can do without me.

I am reading Blood Brothers by Nora Roberts

1. Where did you get this book?

I got this book from a small used book store in the next town from where I live

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

I got this book for $5.50. Sells for $10.99 in Canada.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?

I picked up this book on Oct. 14th and couldn't stop thinking about it. It had to be the next book on my list.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

The afternoon of Oct. 14, 2009

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?

I am enjoying the idea of three young boys having the same birthday, being the best of friends, sharing secrets, staying connected after becoming men. The only part I am having a hard time with is the mention of sex. It isn't throughout the book but when it is mentioned it does go on just a tad too long.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?

I have to say better. Even though I was hooked when the owner of the book store was telling me about it. I don't normally enjoy Nora Roberts as much as I enjoy this book. I will definately have to buy the other two books in the series.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

Almost done actually. I am on page 290 with only 32 pages left.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

Inside the front cover marked in pencil is the price. Someone has underlined in pencil about 5 words throughout the book.

Recently I read a great novel based on the life of Ramanujan, the famous mathematician written by David Leavitt The title of the novel is The Indian Clerk It describes the life of Hardy and how he brought Ramanujan to Cambridge..If you have patience to read the first 100pages,the book will surely take you to the end .
I first saw the book in a mall at Santacruz The price was Rs500 I was not sure whether I would be able to read it so I didnt buy it there after 3/4months I happened to see the same bk in a raddishop where the man wanted Rs 150 I bought it at once At the most I would wast only that much if I couldnt read or didnt like it. But when yesterday I finished reading I felt very lucky to have got and read it.
i didnt understand the mathematical part but as a story of complex human relations. I fond it very absorbing, enriching and rewarding experience. I want everybody to read it.The publishers hv their website www.bloomsbury.com

I am reading Flesh and Fire by Laura Anne Gilman.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
I paid $17.16 and the cover price is $26.00

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I've been hearing about it on Laura Anne's blog and had it pre-ordered. It moved to the top of my list as soon as it arrived.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I added it to LibraryThing on Oct. 7.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the world that is being created. It looks to be a big political fantasy with an interesting system of magic.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It is a littler slower-paced than the books I have been reading. I am enjoying getting into the story. However, it is the first of a trilogy and I know I will be waiting for years for the rest.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am on page 164 of 374.

I will likely be donating it to my HS Media Center after I finish it. I have lots of kids who like to read fantasies. I might as well spread the wealth while waiting for the rest of the trilogy. Also, donating it saves room on my crowded shelves for books I plan to read again. (If I want to read this one again. I can borrow it from my library.)

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I just love reading books about Quantum Physics and this little book is written for us laymen. It really is an excellent book.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Since June 2009.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
Gamow is explaining the very strange microscopic world through the eyes of a character called Mr Tompkins. Tompkins seems to be a bit of a daydreamer and his reveries take him into the subatomic world.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
This is one of the best books I have read on quantum physics and I have read a fair few in my time.
7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

I am reading Terence Frisby’s 'Kisses on a Postcard', a touching, and at times very funny account of him and his older brother Jack, aged seven and eleven, as WWII evacuees to the Cornish hamlet of Doublebois. There they lived for three years with ‘Uncle Jack’, a former Welsh miner with good old-Labour views, and his warm-hearted wife ‘Auntie Rose’. A charming, uplifting book.

1. Where did you get this book? Used bookstore.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? $2; $3.95

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? I felt a need for non-fiction.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? 2 or 3 months

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? It's a faster read than I expected; It tends to ramble a bit, almost like reading a diary at times.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? Leaning towards slightly better.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? 78 of 273.

I am reading Courtroom 302 by Steve Bogira

1. Where did you get this book?
My local library.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
Nada, but it's priced at $14.95 (US)

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Ever since I read Michael Jackson Conspiracy, a book which gives you a "fly on the wall" in the courtroom feel, I've been interested in reading up on more real-life court "drama." (Once upon a time I dreamed of being a paralegal and/or a court stenographer, so it's not too much of a stretch for me.) My library has a small section on law related books. The title of this one caught my attention, so I read the back cover and brought it home.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I checked this book, along with a few others, out a few weeks ago. I had brought home more "interesting" reads that I thought I would dive into first, but this one has proven itself a winner.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the judge the book is focusing on. He seems like a decent "stand up" kind of guy. However, there are some disturbing facts brought up here about how the court system works and who the people are that are caught up in it. There are some "wake up and smell the coffee" moments in here.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It's better.

7. What page are y ou on NOW? How many pages left to go?
Pg. 141 out of 347

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

Nothing unique about it, just a simple paperback. The court is in Chicago, and the author lives in Evanston, Illinois. I have relatives who live there; makes me wonder if they're neighbors. HA!

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
$9.89 with a cover price of $17.99

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I need to read it quickly and get it to school for my students who have been clamoring for it since they finished book 4.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
It arrived in my mailbox today.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I have just read the first scene (which I had previously read on the author's web site.) The action starts immediately.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I am expecting it to be as exciting and interesting as the rest of the series has been.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am on page 4 of 319.

Amazon.com for my Kindle

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
$6.39 with a cover price of $7.99

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I was in the mood for some urban fantasy and I have read the rest of the books in the series.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I added it to my LibraryThing on Oct. 27, 2009.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the world that Arthur creates. I like Riley Jensen. She is strong, smart and smart-mouthed.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I am expecting it to be as exciting and interesting as the rest of the series has been. I want to know how she deals with the soul-mate that she doesn't even like. I want to know if the baby plot works out.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

I'm presently reading The Crystal Throne by Kathryn Sullivan

1. Where did you get this book?

At a library book sale.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

I think it cost $1.00, the price on the back is $14.00.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?

I put it on both my 999 Challenge under fantasy and my Paranormal 999 Challenge under witches and since I'm behind on both I thought I'd read one that can be knocked off both lists.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

I'm pretty sure I've had it over a year. The computer I'm using is funky and I can no longer look at book pages to check.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?

The story has talking horses called "Fleet Ones" and I'm enjoying them. What bugs me about the story is that the author obviously leaned heavily on LoTR while writing. It really isn't a huge complaint for me, just a little irritating.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?

This was originally a self-published piece picked up by Amber Quill Press after receiving an EPPIE Award (self-publishing award). So, I wasn't entirely sure how it would be but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. It has been a pretty entertaining tween fantasy story.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

I'm on page 157 of 214.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

I did pick this up used at a library book sale so it is a little worn. The oddest thing is that some of the the white writing on the cover is bumpy and I accidently scratched some of it away with my fingernail.

Just started The Last Templar

1. Where did you get this book?
From a charity shop

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

£6.99 although there was a for sale sticker on it £3.99 it cost me £1.00.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?

I just finished reading The Cathars by Sean Martin and wanted to read a novel along the same theme.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

Bought in August 2009

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?

I just read the prologue which describes the fall of Jerusalem to the Saracens. Two templars are instructed to flee with something in a chest it might be the grail. :)

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?

Its to early to say I am about to start chapter one. The prologue was pretty graphic i felt like I was really there.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

I'm on page 7 of 439.

The book is in excellent condition, with no distinguishing marks. That is until I get hold of them then I put my name in them and state time and place bought. In books which are about science I get a highlighter pen and draw all over them. lol

Right now I'm reading The Playboy of the Western World by J. M. Synge.

I picked this book to read now because it has been on my TBR pile for quite sometime. The atmosphere of this play is pretty refreshing. It is just as I thought it would be. It is a very short play. I'm on page 20. Still have some 30-40 pages to go.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

I'm presently reading Carnival by Elizabeth Bear

1. Where did you get this book?
The library.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
It didn't cost me anything. The price on the book is $6.99.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Somebody recommended it on the science fiction thread of the FantasyForum group. It sounded interesting so I requested it from the library even though my tbr pile is threatening to overwhelm me. I have no self control.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
It sat for about three days while I finished what I was reading at the time.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like the characters and the world building. The fact that it is holding my attention and interest is wonderful. My only quibble is the standard science-fictionany made up words for some things and the way the author uses a few different names for the same character. In the narration his last name is used and when being addressed by other characters it is either his first name or nickname.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I'm never sure if I'll be able to follow a story. Sometimes I think my reading preferences are dumbing down as I get older and then I find a book like this with a relatively complex plot and it makes me happy that it holds my interest. I guess that makes it better than I thought it might be.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I'm on page 109 of 392.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

It has some spots but is overall in very good condition for a library paperback.

I am almost finished with A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY and I think it's brilliant. I don't want it to end. It cost me nothing since I'm a book critic and it just fell into my mail slot. Also, it's by my publisher, so I'm biased!

I picked it to read because the first page grabbed me, which is always my litmus test. (Though a frilly cover will turn me off.)

It's been on my shelf for only a few days before I picked it up.

What I love is the characters--real, thorny, unpredictable. There really is nothing I am unhappy with.

It's even better than I expected. I had seen reviews about it.

I have four pages left! Ack! I should be reading!

It's really a great book, about a father so obsessed with his grown son that he comes unhinged when his son starts up a relationship with a neighbor's daughter, who years ago, when she was a teenager was accused of killing her baby.

I am reading a couple of books but one of them The Coffin Trail by Martin Edwards is really a stand-out book.

1. I picked this book because I saw it touted here on LT. It's the first in a series of three (so far) and I ordered all three.

2. The book is marked $14.95 which is about what I paid. More than I usually pay for ordered books, but I really wanted it.

3. I picked this book now because I was in the mood for a good mystery and it fits in with my Alphabet Challenge.

4. I think its been on my TBR shelves since last spring.

5. What I like best so far is firstly that it is set in the Lake District of England, and I haven't read many mysteries about that area. The story is good, an intriguing investigation of a cold case told from two different perspectives, well written and nicely plotted to hold my interest.

6. The Coffin Trail is about what I hoped for. I had high expectations for this book and it's living up to them.

7. I am on page 112 with 174 pages left.

8. Brand new book with no distinguishing marks, stains or folds.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Since Oct 16, of this year.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
It is a fast, interesting read. I am loving the style of writing. Makes me want to read it outloud.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It is much better than what I thought it would be. I knew that I would enjoy it but I didn't think it would be a book that I would have trouble putting down.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am on page 74 of 188.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.
Inside the cover is the price of $2.50 written in pencil on the top right hand corner. The book itself is in excellant condition. It's pages have yellowed but it gives off that classic touch that make the read even more appealing.

Under the Dome by Stephen King

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you?
$14.00

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Have been doing alot of non-fiction and literary type reading this past year. Needed something a little lighter. This one just caught my fancy and I haven't read a new Stephen King book in years so I thought I give him a try.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Started reading it the day I got it.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book?
The idea of a town being inside a dome a watching and wondering who will be the heros and villians.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I use to read King quite often years ago. Just got tired of him. He tended to drone on for long periods in his books and nothing happening. But this book although long (1000 plus pages) does not suffer from those problems.
So to get to the point I find it much better than I was expecting. In fact I'm pleasently surprized.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
454 pages down 618 to go.

The woman in white by Wilkie Collins

Where did you get the book?
I don't actually remember buying it. Possibly some Wilkie Collins fanatic has been breaking into people's houses at night and inserting copies of 'The Woman in White' into their TBR piles...

How much did it cost?
There is no price marked anywhere.

Why did you pick this to read now?
It had made its way to the top of the TBR pile.

How long has it been on your shelves?
Long enough for me to forget where I bought it.

So far what do you like best about this book? What don't you like?
I like the suspense. I'm struggling a bit with the prose style - too many commas, but I expect I'll get used to it.

So far is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I'm reserving judgement.

What page are you on now? How many pages left to go?

What makes your book unique?
It is a little battered and the pages are a little yellowed, but no other distinguishing features.

#74 Reading The Woman in White for the first time. How I envy you! I know it's a little difficult to begin with (like most classics are). But hang on! It's definitely worth it.

#75 Wilkie Collins wrote another mystery/suspense novel, The Moonstone. That one is more like a traditional mystery novel, while The Woman in White has more of a psychological angle to it. They are both good, but I'm slightly partial to The Moonstone.

Sorry for all the unsolicited advice but I really loved reading these books. Just had to share it with everyone! :-)

#74 I just ordered Woman in White on audio we'll have to compare notes when we're done!

# 72...I do recall reading one other about 6 years ago. That was before I saw the series on the television. I am enjoying this one so much more thinking of the charaters that I am familier with now. I should read more of Poirot.

Dec 5, 2009, 11:35am (top)Message 79: Porua

#78 I'm a puritan when it comes to literature as in I tend to avoid TV/movie adaptations of books. I've seen one or two episodes of the Suchet version of Poirot and it is one of the better ones. But of course nothing is better than the books. I hope you read more of them.

Currently, I'm mainly reading two books: Dewey by Vicki Myron and Three to Get Deadly by Janet Evanovich. The first caught my eye in Wal-Mart when it first came out. The sweet looking kitten staring out at me made me pick up the book, and the description made me buy it. The second is the third book in the Stephanie Plum series, which I happened upon Plum Lucky in the bookstore's clearance shelf, and was hooked.

1. Where did you get this book? Funny story on Dewey... I couldn't find my copy anywhere on Mt. TBR, so the one I'm reading came from the library. The Plum book came from BookMooch.

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? My copy of Dewey was around $12 or so, and I'm sure the price was on the book... but the library's copy didn't cost me anything, and neither did my Plum book.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? Good question :-) Well, I picked Dewey to read now partly because it's short and I'm trying to meet my 75-book goal for the year, and partly because I wanted something warm and fluffy and meaningful to read. With the Plum book, it's been a while and I missed Stephanie and Lula and Gramma Mazur, especially.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? Dewey's been there for a little over a year, and it's probably the same for Plum.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? I love Myron's descriptions of small-town life (I live in a small-town myself) and the history of libraries and what they mean to people. I don't like that the cat's going to die, or that some butthead would shove a kitten in a library drop box and wedge the slot open for added cruelty on the coldest night of the year. With the Plum book, I love the humor and Lula always wanting to "bust a cap" in someone, but don't like that it can drag from time to time. It's the third book, and Evanovich didn't have all the kinks and relationships quite ironed out yet.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? Dewey has been surprising and better than I thought, it has more personal things in it and a Seabiscuit-hard-times feel to it. Three to Get Deadly isn't quite as good as I remembered, but still good.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? I'm a little over half-way in Dewey, and about 1/4 the way into the Plum.

nothing unique, btw.

I am on the last few pages of Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella.

1. Where did you get this book?

I picked this up at the library

2. How much did it cost you?
N/A

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?

I was in the mood for something light and funny. Also it's fits into my alphabet challenge

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

Got it last week

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?

With Sophie Kinsella I pretty much know what I am getting. A light, frothy story that I will enjoy. Good book to curl up with on the sofa and drink hot chocolate with and wait for the happy ending.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?

See above

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I'm on page 376 out of 389 pages. Just about finished.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

It's in good condition except for the smell. I guess the last person to check this book out was a heavy smoker, because the book reeks of cigarette smoke. I have been rushing to get through it cause I can't stand the smell!

The Brothers Karamazov

1. Where did you get this book? Library

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? It's an old book club edition, transl. by Constance Garnett, no price.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
I also found an audio version and I've found that listening is a perfect way to deal with even a brief commute. It is one of titles in The New Lifetime Reading Plan, and I am reading from that.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? It's been on my TBR lsit for 3 years, but that is not unusual. My TBR list is hundreds of titles. I don't own all the books in my LT catalog, it is at leat 50% comprised of un-owned, TBR titles.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? The psychological and spiritual twists and turns. It reads just like Crime and Punishment. The characters are unsavory but great.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? I didn't realize it was originally one of those Dickens-esque magazine serials. It is getting a bit tedious.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? I'm at 439 out of 726 dense pages.

I'm reading My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent

1. Where did you get this book? the library

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book? Free to me, cover price $9.99

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? I've had it for a bit and thought it is now time to read it before it is due.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? About a week and a half.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? I'm not very far in but I like the idea of a banshee for a supernatural lead. I haven't found anything I dislike so far.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? Better. I requested this before I read Vincent's urban fantasy, Stray, which wasn't one of my favorites. I was afraid I might not like this one either, but I already like it better.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? 29 of 279

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

This is a fairly new release and is still in good condition.

Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway
Why did you pick this book? Did the cover get your attention? Or maybe it was the title? Did someone recommend you this book?
The book was read and loved by several in the 50 Book Challenge, so I thought I'd check it out.
1. Where did you get this book?
From the County Library
2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
Nothing (LOVE the library!)
3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
After I saw it in a number of threads, I requested it from the library and when it came in, I started reading it.
4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
I've had it four weeks and it is due today. I was going to renew, but I got a new card and my old password doesn't work. Guess I'll just have to try to get it finished today!
5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like that it gets me thinking about some things I'd never given much thought--the specific siege of Sarajevo and the general thought of what it would be like to keep living one's life during such a siege.
6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
It did not grab me quite as much as I thought it would. However, I think that could be because I've been reading it quite sporadically. I'm hoping to love it after reading it through to finish it today.
7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
Small book--about halfway through
8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.
Your basic library book, although I do think the dust jacket is quite lovely.

I am reading Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Why did you pick this book? Did the cover get your attention? Or maybe it was the title? Did someone recommend you this book?
I picked this one because it has been getting so much buzz on a number of the blogs I read. I didn't even notice the cover. I chose it because of what others said about it.

1. Where did you get this book?
Amazon.com

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?
The cover price is $17.99 but it is one of the publisher price wars books and cost $9.00.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?
Because of all the talk, I have been waiting for this book to be published.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?
Just a couple of days.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?
I like that the main character of this book is a boy. Most of the YA books in this genre have girls as the main character. There is nothing that I don't like. It has all the elements -- mysterious characters, beautiful girl in danger, overwhelming evil characters, etc.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?
I am pleasantly surprised by how good I am finding it. I was afraid that it wouldn't live up to the hype.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?
I am on page 346 of 563.

This is strongly recommended for those readers who can't get enough of books like Twilight.

The book I am reading right now is Hot Rain by Kat Martin

1. Where did you get this book?

My friend lent me this book

2. How much did it cost you? What is the price on the book?

It didn't cost me anything. The price on the book is U.S $6.99/CAN $9.99. Why the big difference is beyond me.

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW?

I had it picked before I finished the one before the last one I read. This is the second last book that my friend has given me to read. I knew that this book will be amazing compared to my last book. But then again anything would be.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table?

I would guess about 3 months or so.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book?

I love the bright yellow cover. The story is quick and intriguing. So far there is nothing that I don't like.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be?

I wasn't really expecting much from this book. Although I have read Kat Martin before I didn't think that I would get so into it as fast as I have.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go?

I am only on page 32 with 382 left.

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique.

This book has my friends name inside the cover. It is in good condition except for the binding. My friend cracks the binding as soon as she gets her book. Ouch. I could never do that to a book.

The Mediterranean Caper by Clive Cussler

1. Where did you get this book? Book-A-Million

3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? Change of pace after a lengthy non-fic read.

4. How long has it been on your shelf/home/table? About 3 months.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? Lots of fast paced adventure; very little, except that it's slightly dated.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? Better, although I already had high expectations.

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? 160 of 384

8. If this was a used book maybe someone has highlighted parts, written down their own name, it could have been given as a gift and written on it from and to someone, or maybe they just doodled in it. Tell us what make your book unique. Bought new, a rarity for me.

5. So far, what do you like best about this book? What don't you like about this book? I like his cryptic humour. ex, I'd be in like Errol. (referring to Errol Flynn and the saying I'd be in like flynn.) I don't like his serious dialogue. The voice inside his head is ok, but he never let's the main character care enough for me.

6. So far, is it better or worse than you thought it would be? Better

7. What page are you on NOW? How many pages left to go? 42 of 369 (heehee)
