I was thinking that several months ago that John had blogged that he had a new forum nearly ready. Was I dreaming? I do have a poor memory, so I certainly could be totally wrong. It looks as though he is concentrating on other things like twitter so maybe the forum is done and running and I have not noticed or has it been scrapped? Does anyone know what is happening with it?

I don't know the answers to any of that, but I can tell you that for the first time - in years - I kid you not, I can actually post to the BM-discuss forum and it loads for me every time now; rather than never. So maybe there has been some work done on it.

(I have probably jinxed myself very badly now...)

It was not a dream :)

Just delayed a bit, there have been some complications..

In the meantime, the old forum's server has been improved to load faster.

Wow! You guys are right about the old forum! I just logged in and it does actually work now...and quickly! Who knew?!! I haven't tried it in forever! I just relied on emails posts. I hope that he is working on it and it will be announced soon as we will likely get more members using it once it is actually announced and available through the site. Maybe it will be more highly displayed on the site also...it seems as though it is sort of hidden on the site now.

It is not on the site at all actually, there is just a link to it.

The new forum will be entirely integrated into Bookmooch and will have many branches.

WOO HOO! How good that sounds!!!

I've been wondering about this, too. Add me to the list of folks who are anxiously awaiting a new forum.

Nov 8, 2009, 10:08am (top)Message 8: janmpb

mark,
That's what I was thinking and hoping for. I think that it would be a major improvement to bookmooch. I think that for many members the forum is much more important than the twitter and facebook features, but maybe I'm wrong.

# 5 You admins must be so busy with all of the changes in the works. Please let your collegues know how much it is appreciated :)

Nov 10, 2009, 1:28am (top)Message 10: Lman

I knew I would jinx myself... can't load any forums again today. :(

What's happening?

Nov 10, 2009, 2:44am (top)Message 11: markwp

Thanks Michelle, but John does all the really hard work.

For the above -- yes, it is well understood that a new forum is at the top of most people's want list -- it is just a much bigger project than the recent improvemnts.

Lman -- Yeah, I just checked, it is down for the first time in a few weeks just now, but shouldn't be for long.

Nov 11, 2009, 6:39pm (top)Message 12: Lman

OK - so now I can open the forums, even each message - but I cannot reply!
Every time I write a reply, it comes up with: "your message will be posted after being approved" - and it never does.

I am logged in...what else do I need to do? :(

slip $50 to John, and stop swearing.

Nov 11, 2009, 7:32pm (top)Message 14: Lman

No $*ing way!!

Seriously...do you need a gmail account?

not necessarily, but it might work better. However if you change email accounts, your first post from the new account might get held up as well/again/whatever. Who knows, the forum is strange and mysterious place, it has neither rhyme nor reason. Hopefully mark might be able to pop in and shed some light. Did you send an email to tech support from Bookmooch with the details?

Did you send an email to tech support from Bookmooch with the details?

Well, no...that would be too sensible!
Hadn't thought of that, as the forum is separate - thanks for the suggestion though.

...I will wish fervently (and swear vociferously - I love it when I can use that word) for the new forum to appear soon.

Nov 11, 2009, 8:51pm (top)Message 17: markwp

I have learned not to say 'coming soon' on the new forum... But just that it is a top priority.

Please do not send tech reports if your posts are not going through -- the problem is the spam gaurd, which is tough to get through for some new members (to the forum). We suggest the use of Gmail or Yahoo accounts, which work best.

Nov 11, 2009, 10:05pm (top)Message 18: michellereads

Lman, I'm appalled at your use of the word "$*ing". I thought you were such a sweet little thing. What's the world coming to. It must be MrAndrew's fault.

M.

Nov 11, 2009, 10:29pm (top)Message 19: Lman

Wot. What's wrong with 'earthly'...wot? Oh, it's not spelt like that.
It is similar to the spam gaurd but not as nasty!

and yes...
It's all his fault! He made me do it Miss; he made me do it!

edited to fix MY typos.. LOL

#17 snort. Australian's can't contain themselves. ..

#20: yeah, being contained on a big island leads to less containment in other places... like here!! ;)
