let's play crambo!

Nov 12, 2009, 11:10pm (top)Message 2: StormRaven

I'll be sure to stick the note on a cork board with this.

Nov 12, 2009, 11:54pm (top)Message 3: justjim

Rub it on with this hand, rub it off with this hand. I'm going to be so good at karate (and have a shiny car too)?

Nov 13, 2009, 12:02am (top)Message 4: SugarCreekRanch

I wish I could think of some clever or sarcastic remarks.

Nov 13, 2009, 12:23am (top)Message 5: justjim

What Bill Clinton used to blow on?

//Are you feeling OK, SCR? You can normally come up with some pretty darn clever remarks!//

Nov 13, 2009, 12:42am (top)Message 6: SugarCreekRanch

// I can easily think of some clever sarcastic remarks about Bill Clinton and blowing... but, nah, not going there. //

(no guesses were produced in this blathering)

Nov 13, 2009, 12:49am (top)Message 7: justjim

//I'm with you there. I was going to ask what BC did some licks on, but (a) it's a guitar term, and (b) it's just wrong!//

Peace?

#2 stormy, if you used manytacks on your cork board, whatever you stuck would stick but you wouldn't have me pinned.

#3 wax on, wax off. no matter. jj-san get squish just like grape.

#4 wisecracks will get you nowhere here, SCR. :)

not tacks, wax, wisecracks not

off to bed. i'm old and grey and full of sleep. :)

Nov 13, 2009, 1:31am (top)Message 9: justjim

Well g'night old grey sleepy person! I, while being old and grey, am not sleepy (but then it is only 5:30 in the evening). I plan to go out tonight and try to photograph some cicadas molting. I will have to be careful to focus on the bit between the head and the abdomen?

Nov 13, 2009, 1:31am (top)Message 10: SugarCreekRanch

Is it the duty I pay on my beer and cigs?

(Please note the structure of that sentence.)

Nov 13, 2009, 1:40am (top)Message 11: justjim

While I'm out tonight, I might see the constellation named after a furnace?

It's a southern hemisphere constellation, so even if you can see it, the stars might not line up the same way because of where you are observing from?

Nov 13, 2009, 1:47am (top)Message 12: justjim

Lizzie Borden. 40? With?

Is it that fuzzy yellow guy who "speaks for the trees, because the trees have no tongues?"

Nov 13, 2009, 12:23pm (top)Message 14: mirrordrum

jj, why don't you photograph thorax of the molting cicadas and not just the middle bits. didja get that? huh? didja? ROFL at my great wit. actually i don't really like puns.

not tacks, wax, wisecracks, thorax not

Nov 13, 2009, 12:28pm (top)Message 15: mirrordrum

hmmm, SCR. i've noted your syntax and must discount sin tax and import and surtax. indeed the word does not include tax at all.

not tacks, wax, wisecracks, thorax, syntax, surtax, sin tax, import tax, tax not

*eta 'syntax'

I'll send you a photographic image of a document, how's that?

Nov 13, 2009, 12:33pm (top)Message 17: StormRaven

Or, a homophone of 16, a collection of documents that provide answers to oft posed inquiries.

Nov 13, 2009, 12:36pm (top)Message 18: mirrordrum

#12 noop, not whacks nor axe. and anyway, she was acquitted. the house where the murders occurred is now a B&B. hmmmm.

Is it a plural version of what the old man played:
* on my thumb
* on my shoe
* on my knee
* on my door
* etc ?

You know, that old man is really starting to bug me. He seems like one those angry brawny Irishmen.

Nov 13, 2009, 12:54pm (top)Message 20: mirrordrum

#13 the Lorax is mossy and bossy and small and speaks up for trees 'cause they can't speak at all but you'll have to think size and you'll have to think flow or your guesses will surely be entered below.

not tacks, wax, wisecracks, thorax, syntax, surtax, sin tax, import tax, tax, whacks, axe, Fornax, Lorax not

Nov 13, 2009, 12:57pm (top)Message 21: mirrordrum

Nov 13, 2009, 4:26pm (top)Message 23: mirrordrum

SCR, you can play at knick-knacks with a paddy whack (or a paddy wack) to try to win a knick knack (or a nick nack) but none of those is my word. and i'll throw in lumberjack since i used it above.

not tacks, wax, wisecracks, thorax, syntax, surtax, sin tax, import tax, tax, whacks, axe, Fornax, Lorax, fax, FAQ, knick-knacks, paddywhacks, lumberjacks not

A killifish lives in water.
It has a size -- small.
But I don't think it has a hold.
Oh, well. Can't win them all.

A boxed, low price "treat" (as crossword puzzles would call it) ? (This 1 doesnʻt pick up the
"hi-" syllable).

Can also be a slang adjective for "very good at.", very adept"

Arched structures erected over the deck of a ship as protection from heavy seas? (The singular, of course, would be where Berilia, Tubul, Great T'Phon and Jerakeen stand).

turtlebacks it is not.

Thinking up rhymes with syllables three
I remembered two names for the same kind of tree.
It's a kind of larch, one that likes cold.
It grows near water, but it has no hold.

In vain to improve he
Tried seeing a 3D movie.

the hamatack and tamarack,
are trees with syllabs three.
they both like water,
as you've said,
yet ah, regrettably,
they're also nouns
and my word's used
but adjectivally.

not tacks, wax, wisecracks, thorax, syntax, surtax, sin tax, import tax, tax, whacks, axe, Fornax, Lorax, fax, FAQ, knick-knacks, paddywhacks, paddy wacks, lumberjacks, panchax, smacks, crackerjacks, umiaks, turtlebacks, hamatacks, tamaracks not

interestingly enough, but absolutely unrelated to this game, 'tamarack' is the name of the main surfing spot in the town where i grew up. so-named because it's at the western end of tamarack street. :)

on Darien's peak you stand alone
and watch, as lock tides ebb and flow,
the pond'rous panamax below

huzzah--and apologies to JK

you're up, larxol. :)

thanks for your patience, all. i'll not pick something quite so arcane again.

Nov 17, 2009, 1:30pm (top)Message 44: Larxol

on Darien's peak... well, at least you didn't call me "stout". The guess up there with Polyphemus was parallax, by the way. New game soon.

Nov 17, 2009, 3:13pm (top)Message 45: justjim

Well paint me purple and call me a grape. Great word md! I did get as far as Dennis L Siluk's poem but if asked, I would have said panamax was either a headache tablet or a camera!

Nov 17, 2009, 3:23pm (top)Message 46: mirrordrum

oh drat--i completely missed that one and i was popping in and out right there for quite a while with SCR's guess. i never even saw it. i need to learn to go back and check.

(My guess was actually "lax"...I'm not too good this yet)

Nov 17, 2009, 7:09pm (top)Message 48: mirrordrum

you did fine, IWTB. i was stumped and for some reason decided those might be the names of movies (flix) and they all are, as are my responses. :)
